The staff here are always so polite and very kind and accommodating, which I appreciate first and foremost. I would say the atmosphere is friendly as well. The food here is decently good, but I need to try a few more dishes. In the image I shared, I asked for a dish that they don't have yakisoba with chicken, which was cool that they accepted my request for a custom dish! Admittedly, it wasn't the best tasting, but I put that more on me than them. Overall, it was a good experience and I would definitely go back :)

I had a great experience at this Japanese restaurant. The food was delicious and fresh, especially the chicken liver, takowasa, fried calamari and sashimi Merkel. The portions were **mid-sized** and the price was reasonable. The service was friendly and attentive. Nice atmosphere and nice selection of cold sake.

Walked home from the gym and I saw the poster outside they have curry rice chicken/pork katsu. I went in and got accommodated right away by a super nice staff (short hair). it truly didn’t disappoint me. I had a really nice meal and I will be surely coming back. A must try in Sunnyside!

We orderer Pork dumplings and sushi our option was Crispy shrimp , California, Philadelphia , Dragon and Sunnyside .. The sushi looked good and tasted good. our favorite was the dragon option. The dumplins were pork and were good in flavor and size. We also ordered a small miso flavored soup that was also delicious. For dessert I recommend march mochi with ice cream. We had good service and the atmosphere was friendly.

This place is excellent and a great price I like the service as well. They have a lot of options :) I had the seafood salad and the Sunnyside roll it was fresh and fast. They really should rethink the time of their lunch special. I walked in around 2:45 and it was already over.

The food was 10/10 made me sleepy it was really good. The server was really nice and made sure we had everything + enjoyed our meals. The atmosphere is really nice as the seating makes you feel like you have privacy. 100% coming back when I have money.

I would give them 20 stars if I could. I wasn't even hungry when I wandered into this place, I just wanted something small and simple before I call it a day. I ended up finishing all these and I left with an extra order of takeout in my hand. This is how good this place is. Authentic menu, super nice and friendly staff. Utterly amazing experience.

I'm sorry but this needs to be said. The food here has declined so much the past couple of years. The freshness and quality, isn't what it used to be. I came for lunch with my boyfriend and the bill came out to $99 after only ordering a few sushi rolls and salmon sashimi. The dragon roll is almost 14$ but there was literally no eel, I'll post the picture below but this is not acceptable. It's laughable and quite honestly kind of scammy. I hope they make some changes because there are other Japanese restaurants in sunnyside that offer better quality and quantity for your buck!

I went here recently , it has been 7month. That day was little chilly and I wanted to get some warm soup. I picked Nabeyaki Udon and it was a perfect choice. There has artificial crab fry, egg, boiled chicken, and yum, and lettuce with Udon noodle. Don't forget to add Shichimi! It makes more delicious.

This is my local sushi spot and I go here several times a month. The sushi is always fresh but the fried food is a little burn most of the time.

Very average to sub average quality. I thought it would be better based on the prices and its longevity. The mushroom miso soup is slimy. The sushi deluxe is unimpressive both in quantity and quality. The only Impressive aspect of this restaurant is that they charge more than sushi restaurants that serve better food.

The service here was great but the food was not it. We got the boat for 2, nothing about this was fresh. The salad that came out had this think clumpy dressing like resembled the waste out of a juicer. The skewers were ok but the SUSHI tasted old and stall. The rice was dry and tough and tasted old and the sushi was not fresh. We're not the type to leave anything on plate but i don't think we even got through half. For 66 dollars it is not worth it. I'm going to have to spend money else where because this food is not edible.

I LOVE this place, this is the ONLY place I would go for Sushi, it is open by a Japanese owner. Great service, amazing food, and sushi always fresh. All the sashimi is so fresh. I ONLY recommend all my friends to go there.

Love their udons and 5.bowls. Curry and tempura udons are a go to. For their price you are getting a great meal.

I haven't been to this Japanese restaurant since 2018. The service and food were both on par. However, I was a bit disappointed that the check-in offer wouldn't be honored. They should just take it off of yelp. Also, when we asked for the check, they tacked on more the the bill. I always take a look at my bill now and glad that I did. They put that I ordered more than I did and asked them to take if off. After taking if off the bill, it was so much less. I really hope it wasn't on purpose and an accident or that would be really deceitful!

I have been eating here for many years. It is a nice casual place that has nice variety of food. Their Sushi is sometimes good but sometimes not so much. And the same goes to other food. It almost seem like they have 2 different class of chefs in kitchen that they alternate the shift. Service is always good, but my favorite thing about this restaurant is the "Ikebana" (flower arrangement) they exhibit in the back corner of restaurant. They change it quite often and always very beautiful. I am sure that I will keep going for many years to come.

There was a time, not long ago where I thought Ariyoshi was not even remotely close to solid Japanese pick, let alone the best in the hood. My experiences were underwhelming and I was even a little sad knowing a Japanese owned spot was so lackluster. Fast forward a few years and I can see that they've made a change for the better: faster delivery / takeout, more efficient service, and above all, quality food. I was always somewhat lukewarm on their sushi preparation, but was pleasantly surprised to find nice chunks of fresh fish during my last go-around. My chirashi bowl was nicely packed with vibrant colors, and was plentiful portion wise. I also have high regard for their hamachi kama (yellowtail collar) and think their beef negimaki roll is underrated. I'm not sure if they're still rocking the green tea soba, but I really thought that was a standout dish. Their sushi, gyoza, and hot udon based dishes are somewhere in the middle for me. On some days it's pretty good and on others it's a bit lacking. I didn't have the best experience with their spicy mentaiko pasta or the agedashi tofu. I recognize that these blips are not consistent enough for me to be completely turned off, but they are leaps and bounds ahead of where they once were. I still think the staff is courteous and good at getting folks what they want. They've done a good job with the social distancing when indoor dining was still a thing but I think their takeout / delivery game is definitely on point. Prices are on the rise, but such is life in the pandemic bubble.

Always amazing never disappoints me. The ebi gyoza is amazing. The california rolls are also off the charts.

I read about the quick eats that is available during the weekend outside of this Japanese restaurant. Note: the restaurant is open for dine-in and takeout though I was going for a snack. The 3 items: Japanese savory pancake (also called Okonomiyaki) for $6, Pan-fried noodles for $4 (Yaki-soba), and yakitori for $2. I have been wanting a Okonomiyaki. They made it fresh on a outdoor flat top grill. Forgot to take a picture while it was being cooked. The outside is crispy (loved the crispiness) and typed with various topping. For $6, it's totally worth it as a snack. I couldn't finish this in one setting. Great place to swing by for a snack. Enjoy.

The food is good but the only thing is that they demanded for a tips and there followed me outside and begged for a tip

This is my go to spot when I'm in the mood for quick sushi. Their sushi rolls are good. They charge now $1.50 for spicy mayo. Their takeout miso soup is a joke though but I guess that's what you get for $2.

I was super excited to order from this place, as it's really close to home, so convenient, right? I ordered the shoyu ramen without the pork - I understand the price is still the same, that's fine. I asked instead if they could just make it spicy, they said fine. The total was $14.70. Cool. Now the girl tells me they have a min of $15. I told her, it's fine. I don't want to order anything else, just charge me an even 15. Tell me how they ended up charging me OVER $15 ... when the order was less to begin with? I also even was giving them the difference and they had the nerve. BEYOND disappointed. Off to the WORST start. The order arrived and the only good thing I can say is, it was warm. The presentation was awful. The noodles were crammed into a styrofoam container with the toppings, which was barely able to fit that and the broth was in a large plastic container. What if I wasn't home? How was I supposed to mix the two? There was nowhere to combine the ingredients at all. I asked for spicy when I requested no pork and the girl said no problem and because I'll pay the extra to meet the minimum she'd include extra peppers. There was no spice added to the broth as requested at all. Everything aside from the broth was also quite raw. Can't say I'd recommend. I try to order from local businesses directly. Now I wish I'd ordered from an app and could get some sort of credit.

Ariyoshi is run by Japanese not by other Asians as is the case with most other Japanese restaurants in Queens. This is unusual in an area where Chinese or Koreans dominate and run sushi restaurants or have Japanese dishes as part of an Asian fusion establishment. To have a real local Japanese restaurant is a welcome benefit in a borough which is not known for authentic Japanese fare. You can find the best Japanese food in New York in Manhattan and Brooklyn but an affordable, reliable and pleasant place like Ariyoshi's is a great find. If you come for lunch (before 2:30 pm) the lunch sets are a good deal. You get a main entree. udon and a choice of soup or salad. Supplement your lunch set with a side order of karaage (fried boneless chicken) and a hamachi sashimi and you're good to go. I favor the katsudon which is a large piece of tonkatsu (panko fried boneless pork chop) over a steamy bowl of rice with an egg sauce made of dashi, mirin, sake and shoyu. It's my favorite Japanese comfort food especially in the winter. If I leave half the rice, I order the light almond tofu fruit float and I leave a very happy camper. Ariyoshi is conveniently located on Queens Blvd. along the 7 train. Can't beat the quality, price and convenience and who would believe in Queens! I am here at least once or twice a month for lunch or dinner. We're regulars and the staff know us well. That's the added plus of having a regular haunt, it's familiar and reliable.

I left a review 2 years ago because i'm a loyal customer- and I came back multiple times recently and today I decided to leave a review. Their Spicy Mentaiko Pasta that i got today made me sick. I tasted sour and fishy taste as soon as I took the first bite. I took few more bites and my husband also tried a bite and we decided to throw it out. This is probably my 40th time ordering this menu over the years and the food taste and quality started degrading recently... did the chef change? Please do not serve bad cod roe! It's dangerous for the customers.

LOVE the jumbo ebi Shumai with some lemon on it. A little pricey but worth the treat once in a while recommend

I like visiting Ariyoshi when I am in Sunnyside & in the mood for sushi. The sushi is always fresh and the staff are attentive. The Sunnyside restaurant week meal offer is a good deal. You get a salad, sushi, your choice of meat with rice, and ice cream. Sometimes I get the sushi platter for my family (5 people) and the rolls are small in comparison to other places. In that case, I have get two platters. Otherwise, great place!

A hankering for sushi led me to the battlefield that is this review section. One of the most amusingly polarizing restaurants I've seen in recent memory, Ariyoshi sits in a convenient location just off the 7 train line--where I happened to emerge from when I decided to demystify this restaurant. The ambiance is neat, orderly, and easy on the eyes. But while interior design is nice, we are here for food first and foremost. In that regard, I was pleasantly surprised. The sashimi is tasty and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who likes raw fish dishes. The onigiri is equally as yummy--it's warm and tangy, though lacking in enough meat on the inside. Above all, the service is kind and attentive all throughout. Would I go back? Likely. Should you give it a try? Of course.

I'm a big fan of their cooked food! I'm sure their sushi and sashimi are fine but I only tried it once and thought it was pretty standard but not outstanding. Since mid-March, I've been working from home and have been lucky to try all the local places for lunch. I used to work out of Dumbo and it didn't have a lot of great lunch options that were reasonably priced. Ariyoshi has so many different cooked lunch options and it's priced well. My husband and I have tried their $5.99 lunch bowls (similar in quality to some of those to-go Japanese marts by Grand Central), the grilled tilapia with garlic and ginger, and chicken curry over rice. All solid options! Their miso soup is notable with a broth that's slightly heartier. I'm looking forward to trying more of their items!

The service and food quality went down in this restaurant. They are charging extra $ for ordering extra spicy tuna rolls but in reality its served absolutely regular minced tuna roll . Also they are very inconsistent how they making it ! Today was not spicy at all and delivery guy rings my door bell like the building was on fire and when I mentioned that ringing one time it's enough he started arguing with me ! That's unacceptable and rude !

Came here for lunch and the sushi disappointed greatly. Their Boston roll had no mayor and was just cucumber and shrimp. The sushi rice tasted a bit old, too soft and vinegary. I really didn't like the consistency of the rice. The tuna and salmon were standard. The ramen tonkotsu is Very salty. while their service was on par and gracious, their food makes me hesitant to come here again

Still our go-to for quick meals at a great price. We have tried and been satisfied by their tempura, karaage/spicy karaage, chicken teriyaki and curry bowl (which was probably the least filling one but tasty).

The soup and salad are decent; main dish portions are not Manhattan robust. Tuna Sashimi is fantastic. Anything with eel is virtually non existent in content. Table water's chlorine content was damn close to pool water. Go with bottled water. They have more than just Sushi; lots of cooked Tapas. Not bad for Queens.

Awful! Kani creamy croquette app is the worst thing I've ever tasted! Bland and confusing. Others are alright. Kind of pricy for the quality that you get.

I don't eat sushi much but if I only go to Ariyoshi. All the food is authentic and even with the large menu they still manage to make everything taste amazing. The Sunnyside roll and the dipping soba is a must try here. I love the appetizer menu which includes lotus roots, mushroom dishes etc which are things yoy won't find at other Japanese places. The staff and owners are always very kind and accommodating. When we did go with our brothers pre-covid they provided cute kids-sized utensils and plates.

Solid typical American sushi place. Clean, comfortable and peaceful. Not the craziest sushi menu I've ever seen, but I came here to say that they have soy paper as an alternative to nori (sea weed), if you are looking for that. (Some places have it, but it's not always clear unless you ask in person.)

I give this place 5 stars because I come here all the time, and what I order is always very good; however, I only get basic dishes like salads/soups and vegetarian rolls (vegetable roll, sweet potato roll, avocado roll, etc). I'm not rating the overall menu. I can't opine of the quality of sushi here. The service is great, the servers are super friendly. They recently improved there service due a low grade but are now an A. I'll continue to frequent this location for as long as I live in the area.

A Chinese-Korean (Yanbian) acquaintance of ours related this experience: as a sushi chef in Japan for 10 years and working in sushi restaurants in the US he saw how fish was selected at fish markets for use. If the owner was Japanese the best and most expensive portion was chosen. If the owner was Korean then the 2nd best portion of fish was selected. Lastly, if the owner was Chinese then the lesser or least expensive cuts were chosen. This has been our experience as well in terms of the quality of sushi served at a restaurant. Ariyoshi may not be the best Japanese sushi restaurant but they are levels above your typical sushi restaurant in Queens; not saying Korean or Chinese sushi places should be avoided, it is merely observation and experience to manage expectations. The service and atmosphere is great also. I recommend this place to be your go to sushi place in Queens.

Sunnyside Restaurant Week October 2020 Since the pandemic started back in March, NYC has been on hold. However, when I saw that Sunnyside was going to have a restaurant week, I was excited to be supporting local business and my beautiful Queens. This brought me some sort of normality. I venture out to try out @ariyoshi_japan restaurant.The food was fresh and delicious and who can pass up a four course dinner for $25. My favorite part was the chicken teriyaki . The service was great and the staff was very friendly and everyone was wearing mask which was a great way to encourage people to be safe even thought we are in a pandemic we can have a bit of normal stuff. But let's be safe first: wear your mask and wash your hands. I can't wait to go try out more restaurants. I used to come here all the time years ago. This place always reminded me of weird warm sushi pieces, plus over cooked salmon. They had always had a large menu which you would spend a lot studying to find exactly what you wanted for dinner. Their menu's used to be created by hand. Fast forward to now the ambiance is still the same and they still have a large menu but they are professionally done. The service has always been very friendly and quick. I have to say that their cooked food has gotten a lot better. We ordered their standard sushi dinner and sushi and chicken teriyaki bento box. Their sushi to me was just OK but the chicken teriyaki was delicious. Now that it's getting colder out this place for me is great for appetizers and noodle soup.

I've been to Ariyoshi many times for their ramen and sushi, but last night I saw they had a few cheaper options including curry, chicken, and beef bowls. This is the beef bowl that goes for $5.99. It's perfect for me, because I prefer eating smaller portions, and this bowl was enough to fill me up! It was absolutely delicious, with beef, caramelized onions and white rice. Definitely will go back to try the other small bowls!

We had lunch here on Saturday while in the area. We have a regular lunch place in Sunnyside, Queens that we always eat at when in the area but today we chose to have a Japanese lunch. For starters, you should know that all restaurants in the New York City boroughs are graded by the Department of Health. If a restaurant doesn't have an "A" rating posted in the window, don't look for me because I won't be there. OK so let's get to the lunch because I don't have all day. I had something with Shrimp and tempura veggies over rice. Now I love shrimp so I consider myself pretty knowledgeable when it comes to shrimp no matter how you cook it. In this case the shrimp were kind of soggy, and the breeding was falling off them. The tempura veggies were OK, and the rice was acceptable. My wife had a box lunch consisting of teriyaki chicken, rice, salad, and gyoza. She loved it and said she would go back there again. So we have a problem, next time in the area we'll be eating separately. So if you see her tell her I said hello and I'll meet here at the car.

This place is phenomenal. I cannot believe I've never been here before. When you first walk in you're automatically greeted and taken to your table. A waitress then shoots right over to you and gives you your menus. They have a lot of beer selections if you don't like saki. There's also some mixed drinks as well,make sure you ask them to be generous on the booze. The decor is very woody with wooden tables and wooden paneling. I was very pleased with the temperature in the room. It felt very cozy even tho we were not in a booth. It was the perfect setting for a valentines meal. Since I was sitting in the aisle I didn't get nervousness about food being spilled on me. The menu has a ton of food to choose from. I spent a few days looking at the menu to figure out what I was going to get. Chicken Katsu was the winner. Our waitress was great and super funny. The wait time for the California rolls was within 4 minutes after placing our order. The main dishes took about 15 minutes to reach our table. Our waiters kept refilling our waters within moments. If you love miso soup you would be pleased to know that it is one of the best I've ever tasted. Their chicken was very crispy and finger licking good. I got a salad with my meal but you better believe the second the soup was given to my significant other I definitely tried it. A 22oz beer was only $4.50 which is super cheap, but will send you to the bathroom before you leave. ::BATHROOM ALERT:: With the amount of people in the restaurant I was expecting it to be super dirty. They have seats outside the bathroom just in case you have to wait. I had to wait until a waitress told me I can use the men's room so of course I did. It was extremely clean and roomy in there. The soap was filled the toilet paper stocked and it did not smell. A+ on the bathroom. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes sushi or this type of food in general. It is very accommodating. A cute little side bar they gave out roses at the end of your meal for V-Day. Wonderful service.

This place is so delicious. Whenever I want to get sushi for dinner, I got here. The staff is so friendly, every server I have gotten has been so nice. The food is delicious and it's pretty fast. The only downside is that the prices are a little expensive. Even the combos are expensive. Overall, I always have a good experience here

Sunday night were craving for sashimi and there weren't sushi place around I live except Ariyoshi so I gave them a try. It was pretty packed the time I went to have a dinner date. It was packed near bar area as well. Only two waitress I have seen at that busy night. I didn't get greeted when I walked in to the restaurant. Stand there 2 minutes until someone was out to greet us. We got seated to the table, gave us the menu. Their menu had sushi boat for 2 ppl 3ppl and 4ppl I think. I prefer sashimi more then sushi! Why don't they ever make sashimi boat for 2ppl & etc. If they had that I would at least come here twice a week to have sashimi. I ordered sashimi regular which was $26.95 for just 13 pcs. I think for 13 pcs sashimi is just expensive. Other Korean place I could get a big platter for just $60 it comes with side dishes, soup and totally worth it. Ordered tuna Avocado sashimi which was far low rating for this. It came with 3 piece tuna & avocado. They used same sauce they used in salad. The tuna wasn't fresh after half bite I didn't want to eat it because of the smell of fish since I'm very sensitive person. The salad we got was lukewarm! It wasn't cold! Salad are suppose to be crunchy and cold but this was just warm salad. Ordered side of salmon, crab croquette, dragon roll I think, a mojito drink. Crab croquette was just sad experience! It beyond tasted like crab! The only thing I tasted were the cream cheese!!! Oh yeah! Don't fall for picture on shown on yelp or the menu! Trust me! It doesn't come out exactly at the picture! On yelp the crab croquette looked delicious that I wanted to give a try but it was sad experience. The only thing I really liked about this place was the mojito drink & warabi mochi ice cream! I wanted to get seconds on warabi mochi it was that good and they were out of vanilla ice cream so got green tea! I love green tea so that's a thumbs up! It needs a improvement!

Love this place! Came here a couple of times. Tonight was exceptional!!!! Here is all the food our table ordered: Sushi regular with California roll Sushi regular with Tuna roll Spicy salmon with avocado roll Tuna roll Stir fry plain udon noodles Regular coke Diet coke Seltzer with lemon This all came up to a total of $67.00 between 3 people. The tofu soup that comes with the sushi regular is very fresh and delicious! Big chunks of tofu in it! The place is very spacious and clean. Our waiter and waitress were very nice! We didn't have room for dessert. My daughters udon noodles were comfort food delicious. Nice, warm, savory and gooey is how I would describe them. This is an excellent place to go to dinner. The sushi is always fresh here. You can park at the muni meter across the street if you can't find parking on the side streets.

Spent $40 something dollars for some garbage food including shrimp yaki udon. I had to put some seasoning into it as there was no taste. An instant yaki udon would've been much tastier. We won't be getting any food from Ariyoshi ever again. Sayonara

I got the tempura udon soup and the ika sashimi. The food tasted below average for the price point they are charging. Texture of the IKa sashimi doesn't feel right and i'm starting to feel a bit nauseous after eating. I would give zero star if i could

I can honestly say that this is the most well-educated, thorough review I have on Yelp. I have gone back a few times to try different items because it always looks crowded so I thought it was a bad night, but it just turns out the food and a really bad. I will list a few things I've eaten and their reviews. sushi boat for two - terrible. Pink tuna, tough white fish and other items I wasn't impressed with. The miso soup was okay yellowtail and scallion roll - "meh". Rice was bit overwhelming and couldn't really taste the fish. Mountain yam appetizer - pan-fried yam that was REALLY undercooked. If you like you yam al dente the this is for you. Comes with an amazing sauce though. Potato croquette - very mushy on the inside and not very flavorful. "Happy hour" - There are $1 beers and sakes which is great, but a $15 minimum but I figured I can order a few apps and make it work. Well they forget to tell you that there is a max of TWO $1 drinks, then its regular price after that. What a sham, don't even bother trying this.

My go-to Japanese spot in the area for the past two years and have had no problems with the food or service. They serve a wide variety of solid Japanese dishes, and while they don't have a particular specialty, all the food I've had there did not disappoint.

Recently moved to the neighborhood and had to try Ariyoshi. My co worker used to go to this restaurant every month from Scarsdale. I have been there almost ten times in three months. Authentic traditional Japanese restaurant. I've had their sushi , ramen , udon , katsu , miso soup , karaage, and tempura. All of which have been amazing. Pricing is very reasonable too. Besides large sushi dishes everything is less than 20. Service has always been friendly and attentive too. Their carry out is also great. Highly recommend.
