The Best Restaurants and Bars in San Francisco’s Mission District | Eater SF

"While some bakeries strive for global stardom, fame, and fortune, Arizmendi has always fought the good fight back home — and it’s paid off. This is the grassroots, no-frills, not-for-profit, co-op bakery that the (East) Bay is known for. Since opening their first location in Oakland in 1997, the city has relied on Arizmendi for tasty muffins, veggie pizza, and community-driven ideals." - Matt Tillquist

The Best Pizza Restaurants in San Francisco | Eater SF

"Perhaps the most quintessentially Bay Area pizza place on this list, worker-owned cooperative Arizmendi serves a different pizza every day. Its sourdough crust, whole-milk mozzarella, and fresh seasonal, organic vegetables sell by the half or whole pie. The Ninth Avenue location has recently reopened after a temporary closure, and the Valencia location (as well as Arizmendi’s sister coops in the East Bay) keep churning out pies." - Lauren Saria

Had the coconut lentil soup, zataar focaccia, gorgonzola bread and corn cherry scone. Everything was delicious. My husband wished they had more variety in their sweet offerings and wished they had items with meat. I had the matcha latte and he had the spicy mocha latte which had the right amount of kick. They don't have many places to sit down. Its nice that they have a large parking lot. We bought a burger from the Turkish bakery next door and sat on their side.

Google
Fair prices, delicious pizza, and a good cause! Came here for a weekday lunch and had a wonderful pizza with some kind of vinaigrette sauce. Limited seating indoors, but there is outdoor seating too.

Parmesan, parsley, and garlic oil pizza: one of my favorite pizzas! The daily scones are also one of my favorite pastries! Great local bakery/cafe with organic ingredients!

1. All veg or vegan food, a new for pizza place at least for me. Very tasty and authentic flavor and design. Only three kinds of pizza. Two are fixed and you can get all five days. But 3rd one varies every day of thise five days....you can see the offerings each day in the pic. 2. I tried cheese pizza and flavor of the day pizza and both were really tasty and authentic. 3. This place happens to be by the side of a big parking lot so parking was not an issue. 4. Some cool art in the parking lot as well.

Google
Even though they state that all pastries are made daily, that doesn’t seem to be the case. I’ve had stale scones twice here. If they weren’t stale, then they were severely over baked until they were dry stale. But mostly their pastries are yummy. And I do like that they have a slightly different menu from the Lakeshore location.

Google
OMGoodness! This is the best pizza. Its like a box of chocolate, you’ll never know what you’re going to get, until upon arrival. I never turn down their pizza for the day. Oh, and the bakery. All kinds of flavors, varieties and shapes. Their soups are popular, too. I haven’t tried their soups yet, but right now I’m not feeling well and wish they were near by.

While visiting our daughter in Oakland, we heard about Arizmendi’s Bakery & Pizzeria and had walked by on a Tuesday, but unfortunately for us they were closed. They are open Wednesday through Sundays! The first time I went into their store it was early in the morning and I almost passed out from the aroma of their breads. I purchased their sourdough and garlic Parmesan breads and some of their scones! Every was delicious and the breads weee still warm having recently come out of the oven. The last time I went there, I purchased a container of their red lentils soup that was spicy and delicious! While we had to fly back to New York, we’ll be returning soon. We also purchased one of their pizzas that was also great! And their prices are surprisingly reasonable!

Google
Had the blueberry coffee cake muffin and ginger snaps. Both were tasty. They have a large selection of homemade breads and daily specials. The pizza looked and smelled delicious.

Yelp
The pastries, all made in house, are so tasty. It is serve yourself from the display case and bring to the register. Checkout was prompt. Was too early to try the pizza. Limited seats inside and a patio area lend a cafe atmosphere.

Yelp
I was recommended by a friend to go try this place out because they have really good pizza. They also have bakery items like cookies, scones, bread, etc. I even saw in a refrigerated area with some hummus and salads. Now I'm a big time pizza lover. So I love all kinds of different pizza. I will say I thoroughly did enjoy this cheese pizza. I ate a whole large by myself and enjoyed every single bite to be honest. In my humble opinion it is around an 8 out of 10 cheese pizza which is really good in my book. The cookies were also enjoyable. They have only 2 different pizzas everyday, cheese and the vegetarian option of the day which changes everyday. It was my first time there so I only tried the cheese. Next time I will try a different option that they offer. Pro tip: there is parking lot behind the building if you can't find any in front.

Yelp
I've been to the Arizmendi Emeryville location many times, so this is the culmination of multiple visits. They sometimes have seasonal or limited time items (often for holidays, such as Ramadan) and a different scone of the day. There is a bathroom customers can use as well. You can park in the parking lot next to the shop. - Date ma'amoul (limited edition item): It reminds me of shortbread or Danish cookies that have jam in them. It was sort of similar to a sugar cookie but it's a semolina butter cookie with powdered sugar; good if you have a sweet tooth. - X-roll with carrot and red onion: I liked it, it was actually a lot cheesier than I expected, so I didn't taste as much of the carrot, but I don't mind that since I prefer the savory flavors of cheese and red onion. - Cauliflower with berbere spice, green onions, feta, mozzarella with crispy chickpeas and olive oil (a pizza flavor): I really liked the chickpeas, but wish there were more. I think having more vegetables would help balance out flavor since overall it mostly tasted like a cheesy bread. - Zaatar focaccia square: It was pretty good, if anything I think it could use more za'atar. You might like it if you would prefer manakeesh to be thicker and fluffier. - Special cheese roll with fennel, corn, spinach: The cheese roll was alright. I wish it was crispier and had more seasoning and spices. - Arugula, gorgonzola, walnut, balsamic vinaigrette, red onion, also known as the "salad pizza" (a pizza flavor that fairly regularly comes up in their rotation): It was quite good the first time I had it - savory, juicy, and the balsamic vinaigrette really added to the flavor without making it unpleasantly sour. I couldn't really taste the arugula. But on two other occasions that I'd tried it, it wasn't as good; one of the times, the bread was undercooked, the arugula was really dried out, and there wasn't enough balsamic vinaigrette, so it seems maybe the consistency could be improved. - Lemon poppyseed muffin: This was vegan, and I felt like it was lacking something - maybe they needed something to make up for the dairy since it was pretty meh. I thought it didn't have enough poppyseed either. - Pear ginger walnut scone: I'm not a fan of the actual ginger pieces because they come off as too strong to me, but overall it was tasty. I liked the sugar and the scone's texture being crunchy but not unpleasantly hard. - Rosemary garlic potato bread roll: This was good, savory, you can taste the herbs. - Apple sage roll: A little sweet, and it didn't really stand out to me flavor-wise. - Corn blueberry muffin: It tasted like a cross between cornbread and a standard blueberry muffin. It was decent but I would not consider it to be among the best cornbreads I've had in my life.

Yelp
Their pizza never fails to amaze me. Always delicious, fresh ingredients. The cost is less than $4 a slice. I'm usually a meat and veggie pizza person, but I never miss the meat with their slices. Here's What I Think...Definitely make the trip for a wonderfully satisfying slice of pizza.

Yelp
I come here all the time. After checking their instagram account to see what the weekly fruit scones are, I knew I had to try the strawberry banana..... It definitely didn't disappoint!!! This is now one of my top favorite. I'm upset I didn't buy 2. Also got the peanut butter almond cookie which is a peanut butter cookie with chopped almonds. Thin, chewy, crispy edges... perfect

Yelp
I used to enjoy getting coffee here, but they raised the prices. An iced coffee is now $5.25, add soy milk $1 and tips, it totals $7.25. There are better coffee shops nearby in Berkeley, so I won't be coming back.

Yelp
Outstanding prices and friendly neighborhood vibes from this bakery. Known for flavor of the day pizza just like Cheeseboard. The prices here are really outstanding. Excellent value pizza by the slice - and I think a small discount if you buy two at a time or a half or whole pie. I went here on Superbowl Sunday and was very impressed with how this were orderly and functioning so well at peak demand. A line of people waiting and another line of people getting ready to order. Self help bread and dessert area that you visit before you reach the cash register. I think the plain bread here is the biggest highlight. Again super good value and very beautiful and fresh. I usually visit the store closer to where I live for getting that if I don't get ACME. The pizza I had by the slice was wrapped in foil very lovingly but I just didn't like the quality of the cheese and it didn't have the crunchy bottom or blackened air bubbles that is my preference. Not saying anything is necessary bad - just not my cup of tea. Nearby is the Oaks Card Club and the tiny but functional skate park and Pixar - other points of interest if your in the area.

Yelp
Arizmendi is an outstanding bakery that also has phenomenal pizza! What's unique about their pizza is that they make one kind of pizza every day ! ( they're closed Monday & Tuesdays). They also have a wonderful selection of delicious breads, muffins, scones and cookies. Please check their website since they make different breads every day! In addition to their baked goods and pizza, they also sell prepared salads, hummus and homemade soups!

Yelp
Arizmendi is an Iconic Eastbay bakery. The staff that work here are the owners, so of course they take great pride in the product and offerings at this bakery. I've been living in the Eastbay for over a decade and have enjoyed coming for the pizza as well as the other baked goods. Today I arrived too early for the pizza, so I got the other items that were available: Egg in a Hole: I got the Cheddar Jalapeño bread, and those jalapeños had some real kick to them, combined with the cheese and egg, it's the ultimate breakfast bread, or should I say, it's basically a breakfast sandwich. Pesto Focaccia: this had red onions, tomato, cheese, and pesto. I love the savory items and this is a great substitute since the pizzas aren't made until 10am. Pecan Roll: this with coffee is a match made in heaven. It's perfectly sweet and cinnamon-y. Corn Blueberry Muffin: this muffin was good but to me, muffins are like just whatever to me. So it's not you, it's me. The staff of course is wonderful and I appreciate that Arizmendi has been delivering these wonderful baked goods for over two decades in the Eastbay.

Yelp
I miss having this pizza! I've never had a bad flavored pizza from here. When you look at the menu & ingredients, you think to yourself like whaaat..but then you try it and it's so delicious! The service is always great & they have good pastries too!

Yelp
I'm a longtime fan of Arizmendi Emeryville. I keep coming back for everything from their delicious daily pizzas to breads to scones to soups. This coop has great service, friendly, patient worker-owners, and is great for a pit stop inside for coffee and a pastry (seating is limited to barstools but you get to watch the pizzas get made) or equally entertaining to people & car watch from their benches outside that overlook busy San Pablo Avenue out front or the skate park out back. But I'm here now to throw some love towards a more rare Arizmendi sighting that comes for just the briefest time each year: their Mid-Autumn Moon Festival Mooncakes. For a couple of weeks sometime mid-September to early-October, you can find these petit pastries on the shelves at the Emeryville location (although they may also be available at other Arizmendi shops, but I can't confirm). Made with a lotus seed or red bean paste filling surrounded by a thin, flakey, and slightly buttery/oily pastry, Arizmendi mooncakes are yummy, not overly sweet, and they pair beautifully with a tea or coffee. Mooncakes are part of Mid-Autumn Harvest Moon Festival that I celebrate with my husband. Their round, full-moon shape and stamped symbolism helps remind us of unity, harmony, and family. I love any cultural tradition that centers on food, and especially if that food is a pastry. Get your fill while you can, but be warned they sell out fast!

Yelp
We love the pizza here. I really think that their sourdough crust is one of the best pizza crusts around. It's better than almost all pizza options I've had! I also really like the vegan cheese options. Every day is a different combo. I've only had the vegan slices but my family really likes the regular combos as well. We try to come by every week!

Yelp
Not only are the pastries and cookies really, really good here, but the cashiers are also really nice and friendly. I highly recommend this bakery!

Yelp
Diane and I came here after lunch at Simurgh to buy pastries. Their scone of the day was pear-ginger so I bought two. I also bought several savory scones, one pear or something w/ gorgonzola, some cheese scones and something I've never had, an X roll or bun, so I have a lot to look forward to. I also bought a couple of the chocolate mint cookies, which will last me a while. I've already had half of one w/ my afternoon cup of tea. The lovely woman who helped me gave me the senior discount, which I would have forgotten to ask for. While I was picking out pastries a young woman complimented me on my Valkyries sweatshirt and later asked if I had bought tickets for when the season opened. I told her no, that I was planning to record the games and watch them at home. She said she plans to go at least once and I pointed out that she was younger than me. I liked the conversation and the way you can find your tribe when you wear a particular sweatshirt or t-shirt.

Yelp
I can't even begin to tell you how depressing it is to come here for a couple slices of pizza alone (the pizza always slaps so I never feel bad about that). It's been relatively lonely since I moved here and I've had pizza more times that I'd like to admit due to the social nature of the dish. But, oh my god was it weird to just bike up, lock up, walk in, order two slices for like $9, then eat it alone on the patio outdoors in sunny norcal with my backpack still on. The staff was so friendly and there were absolutely zero positive vibes emanating from me, not in an emo way, but in a, "man, this dude could use a friend or two-" kind of way. Really hoping I have some company the next time I come back. Would recommend when I'm not so pathetic.

Yelp
Surprised I haven't reviewed this place! I've only been a few times many years ago but it is one of my fav bake shops out there. Stopped by today after an appointment in the area. I wanted something for lunch and my sister was just talking about the inner sunset location. Their special was a squash pizza so that's what i got! $6.50 for two slices - so reasonable! I also got a molasses cookie and pecan roll for my husband. The pizza was absolutely delicious and the cookie was even better. So solid all around, just like I remember!
google avatar

Tony S.

Yelp
I want to love this place. On appearances alone it shows promise. The kitchen is modern and clean with fancy Swedish ovens and sacks of all natural flour waiting to be turned into bready goodness. The staff are friendly and helpful but the thing that lets it down is the bread and I feel that if you're a bakery, you should be nailing that. I've tried multiple different bready products here and they are all without exception overworked and stodgy with a very poor crumb structure. It's like there's a fundamental issue with their bread recipes and that plays out in the end product. Take for example, the brioche knot. Brioche should be light as a feather resplendent with an abundance of eggs and butter but what you get here is a dense, almost chewy bread roll studded with fruit. The flavor is ok but the texture is not even remotely brioche like. The cookie brittle is decent and the coffee is excellent but y'all, you gotta work on your bread.

Yelp
Amazing local co-op with great coffee and baked goods (and pizza!). You really can't go wrong here!

Ryan K.

Yelp
Came here for the first time and picked up some baked goods. The person working at the counter was extremely rude. They were using a saccharine "customer service voice" but extremely hostile. I RARELY leave a negative review but this was so out of line. Based on other reviews it sounds like it's not a new problem here.

Yelp
Absolutely great unless they run out of vegan pizza early- thus i knocked a star. please make more!!!!!! #moreveganpizza

Yelp
My better half and I were heading to Berkeley and Emeryville to hand out today and having seen a recent PBS episode of "Check Please Bay Area" that featured a very flattering review of this location and in particular the Gorgonzola, Balsamic glaze, walnut and arugula sour dough crust pizza at Arizmendi in Emeryville, this seemed like a good afternoon to stop by and check out this location and this pizza - since it was the featured pizza of the day. This is one of a few locations for this worker owned and operated bakery and pizza parlor, along the same lines as the Cheese Board in Berkeley. Parking is easy, they have a giant free lot alongside the shop and we had our $24 large whole pizza of the day in just 5 minutes. There are a few tables outside and cups for water and a reasonably clean bathroom as well ! Hooray Now for the main event - that pizza. Holy crap that was a very very tasty pizza. Not a combination I would have normally gravitated to but it all worked well and the nice thing was the chew of that thin but well cooked and excellent sour dough crust. Yummy yummy stuff. Truth be told my better half and I polished off a whole pizza - we don't normally do that. It was that good. Nice staff all working hard to keep the baked goods reasonably stocked and the pizzas rolling out. We will be back. Of course we grabbed a couple of cookies upon exiting. The mint chocolate and chocolate chip ones. Delish. I guess the diet starts next week. Visit this place, support this worker run business and eat good quality fresh and real food.

Yelp
I really enjoy their pizza and their cookies - the other pastries I find to be a bit lacking. Seems a bit over-hyped in that aspect I do wish they warmed up some of their pastries like the pecan roll but since they're all self service it's probably not possible There is a parking lot at this location which is nice. Outdoor seating only, there is a public restroom but definitely a grab and go place They sell day old pizza at a discounted price which is great to take home!
google avatar

Deirdre P.

Yelp
Good pizza and bakery. Parking is easy in the lot. Pastries are also very delicious. Would recommend!

Yelp
Best bakery in town and in the city. We'll worth the wait. Everything on the menu is unbelievably amazing from baked goods and coffee to breads and pizza. Wonderful customer service. They run the registers like geniuses. Their holidays specials are fantastic, the latest being the Valentine's Day whoopie pies which were exceptional. The fact that it's workers owner cooperative is the whipped cream and free Palestine is the cherry on top donating funds to save children in Gaza. Bless you all. I am a forever customer and highly recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
I really like scones but the corn cherry scones are better at Cheeseboard. Apple blueberry scone was pretty good though. Prices recently went up so not pleased about that. $8 for two scones....
google avatar

Jennifer J.

Yelp
Update: Tried their stollen bread. I thought I already gave them a piece of my heart; why'd they have to steal a little more? ‍ Their stollen is a limited holiday special so act swiftly (I got mine in early December to share with my little brother when I see him for the holidays). If they have any left, get it and share with loved ones who appreciate unique breads and pastries.

Yelp
Aside from an occasional mask, COVID precautions are in remission, which for Arizmendi means full access to the inside part of their bakery. I was in the Bay Area last Friday and glided in after an easy exit at the MacArthur Maze come from Walnut Creek. Compared to the Mother Ship (Cheese Board in Berkeley), it's easier to park here, get my order, and head on down the road. And yes, their Corn Cherry Scone is without equal. Friday's order also included their current scone, the special scone (Almond Joy), a Pecan Roll, a Chocolate Chip Cookie, and a full light back pizza. I call the later "Socialist Pizzas" as you walk in and you and the masses get what you get. There's some veggie combo that I just order without looking or in some cases cheese. There are no adds or substitutions, and I've rarely been disappointed with their choices, and have always enjoyed the crusts. My choices are all home now, which should last me several days (with proper storage). Gayle loves her morning scone nibbles and we seem to finish them off all too soon. Yet, we're back in the East Bay enough times that a return visit to Arizmendi will happen in good time.

Yelp
I had to stock up on English Muffins. Theirs are super thick and yummy, great for tuna sandwiches. I also got a few pieces of shortbread and a chocolate thing. It's kind of like a croissant, but not flakey and buttery. It was a little dry.

Yelp
We went today, Saturday around 9am. It was raining. We found parking right in front. The line was around 6 deep, but it went fast. Everyone seemed to know what they want. This was our first time visiting. We found them on a PBS show. Check Please Bay Area was the name of the show. They talked it up so good that we had to try it out. We got a variety of baked goods. They were right it was $10 per person. We were a group of 3 and got more than enough baked goods for breakfast and a loaf of bread and 3 cookies for later. We got the following: Pecan roll- a sticky bun. Very good. Beats Cinnabon. Corn Blue Berry Muffin- Just the right amount of sweetness and blueberries, I really liked the corn meal texture. One of my favorites, very unique and not like your typical blueberry muffin. Coffee Cake Muffin-The top Half was a coffee cake crumble. The muffin seemed like a sweet moist bran muffin. It was delicious. A fan favorite. Scone- I think blueberry, but not quite sure. I loved the sugar outside and soft moist inside. It was one of my favorites. Zucchini's muffin, was just ok. We also got the potato loaf and shortbread cookie, molasses cookie and another cookie. We're saving them for later. When we got home we cut all of the goodies in 4ths and shared them all. A great way to really experience the whole bakery. We didn't get any of the savory items. We're go again and try them on our lunch visit. I highly recommend this bakery. The prices are incredibly low and well worth the money. I didn't notice any prices on the baked goods, just names. We wanted the pizza, but it wasn't going to be ready till 10:30, only a little wait, but we were hungry and wanted to get home. If you're in the area this is a must stop. They have 3 locations. Oakland on lakeshore, Emeryville down the way from IKEA, and SF.
google avatar

Lisa R.

Yelp
It's 3pm and I came for some soup and a slice of pizza. One slice. But I was told "we have a two slice minimum". I stood contemplating. But I only want one slice. Two slices js too much food. So I left. I'll make the trek to the lakeshore arizmendi.

Yelp
Took me 2.5 yrs to finally make myself come back. The vegan desserts are as good always!! Only place I prefer to indulge on cookies. Came by for some cookies for peers and they absolutely loved it. Definitely going back this weekend to indulge on a few vegan slice pizza. Or even a half and half pie. I'm glad the inside is now open. Been too long.
google avatar

Yelp
I have been to the Oakland location and loved the zucchini pizza of the day there. I have my eye on the Emeryville and SF locations just because they are on the way home or closer to me. I have been waiting for them to cycle back to their portabella pizza and they finally have a mushroom pizza today. It is a mushroom, red onion, sesame-ginger garlic vinaigrette and parsley pizza. I love the chewy cheese and crust. It was just as delicious as I imagined, a lot of aromatic flavor from the mushrooms. This place also sells baked goods, I picked up an oatmeal cookie ($3) and it was great. If you want to buy anything from the display case, make sure you grab it before it is your turn because the cashier will make you step out of line to get it. You will have to line up again. She will not place your pizza order until you are ready with all items. Luckily, it only takes about 5 minutes for them to get my whole pie ($24) ready (they sell by slice, half and whole for the pizza of the day). It is a steal! Parking in the lot behind the store. Not the best looking parking lot or area.

Yelp
My rating is low for bad service. Lazy, and not nice. Asking me what's in the two little bags of cookies instead of looking. Prompted for min 15% tip for counter service. I asked for two pieces of pizza to take home and heat up in my oven later for dinner. When I saw them put the pizza in the oven I told them I wanted it cold. They told me it's already in the oven, that's how they do it. I told them I didn't ask for it heated and didn't know they would heat it. Instead of accommodating me they left the pizza in the oven several minutes for until it was really hot. Good service would have been to give me two slices of cold pizza. Mediocre service would have been to pull the slices out of the oven right then. But nope they left them in the oven heating up the normal amount of time against my wishes. Zero accommodation even though it would have saved them time and effort.

Deepi A.

Yelp
Was good pizza, tried veggie mushroom and veggies with garlic oil. Will have to go early to try the bakery stuff since they were out of most of it..

Karen P.

Yelp
6:20pm on a Friday. Out of pizza, not baking any more. Shelves mostly empty. they close at 7, but were basically closed 40 minutes early, which is not good for customers.

Lichen X.

Yelp
I know that Arizmendi has a loyal following that includes some of my friends and like the Cheeseboard has lots of unique toppings . But I do not see why it deserves even a single positive 'pizza' review I judge a pizza by simplest offering so I ordered a "plain cheese with tomato sauce around $26.00 w/tax Which gets a 1 in a 1-5 rating from me [1 being the worst] Their mozzarella has no stretch and is basically flavorless the tomato sauce non existent just reddish in color the overall consistency of the crust is rubbery because of too much oil in the making of the dough. I was hoping reheating it would show improvement, instead it got worse with the crust toughening up to become inedible it soon went in the trash What a waste of money While I was waiting I ordered a ginger cookie same problem greasy crust it was over baked and lacked ginger flavor an improvement would have been bits of 'real' ginger in the cookie alas it had none Do not believe the hype if you want a 'real' pizza do not go to Arizmendi Emeryville

Yelp
I've been wanting to try Arizmendi forever so I was SO excited to serendipitously drive past this location. Whew! Arizmendi is known for their single, vegtarian baked pie for the day. It's sold by the slice at obscenely low prices. They also sell a gang of baked goods as well. I stopped by and purchased 2 slices of their pie of the day ($7) - I can't remember what it was topped with, but it was the garlic aroma was enthralling. Man, who knew a slice of vegetarian pizza could be so dang good? If you're looking for a little slice of crafted goodness, Arizmendi is definitely worth checking out - there's plenty of street parking. Order from the front entrance and pick up is located on the side.

Yelp
Easy and fast. Some solid options like pizzas which changes by day. They're really nice and offer sourdough starter!

Yelp
Best vegetarian pizza and bakery in Oakland. On Saturday they have Sallies which are my favorite! Wish I lived closer. Service good and it's co-op.

Yelp
Came here for a light bake pizza - staff was somewhat rude, barely acknowledging me. Used the bathroom briefly (which smelled very strongly of urine). When I came back, there was a pizza box on the counter, no labeling, nothing, and many customers seeming to contemplate whether it was theirs. Anyway, eventually he said it was for me. Opened the box to heat it and noticed a hole in the pizza...uneven cheese and dough thickness all around. Ate the pizza and it was like a Little Caesar's pizza and pretty flavorless. Have had way better experiences at the Lakeshore Arizmendi, so will be going there from now on.

Yelp
I miss ALL the variety of scones! We used to live in the city and it was like a ritual for me to get my Arizmendi fix every Wednesday. We moved to the Sacramento area for retirement and I surely miss Arizmendi. I think I gain 5 lbs every time we go back to the city because I don't leave without getting a bagful of my favorites. Everything there is GREAT. I haven't tested anything close to their scones. Miss you guys.

Yelp
Best scones ever! Happy there's another Arizmendi location to bring heavenly baked goods to the masses. I appreciate how there's a free parking lot- I love the Oakland location but always had to plan out the parking situation since it's mainly paid street parking if you don't park at the TJ's parking lot. Ordering and pickup is outdoor during pandemic times. Staff is always friendly and service is quick so the inevitable line usually moves pretty fast. The menu has a ton of baked goods- scones (currant js my favorite), bread, pizza, cookies, muffins, etc. I usually get a variety of scones, some loaves of bread, and occasionally a few pizza slices or freshly made soup. Prices are affordable too. Everything is freshly baked and delicious- highly recommend stopping by. Warning- they are very popular - I had come right before it opened and there was already a line!

Yelp
I visited this bakery on a Wednesday morning, after seeing it on Check Please. I purchased a few of the following, the Corn-Cheddar Onion Roll, Breadstick Parmesan, and Cheese Rolls. Everything I bought seemed like leftover items from a day or two ago. Very dry and hard, not at all what I expected. My family was disappointed and I tossed it all out. Not sure if Wednesday mornings are a bad time to shop this bakery but I do not plan to return.

Yelp
Love (most) of the food, and the prices. But hate everything else about how dysfunctional Arizmendi has always been - even this Emeryville location after they completely overhauled/redesigned the space and flow a couple years ago. It's worse around lunchtime when if you're a self service customer picking out baked goods- but by the time you pick out your items, several new people have gotten in line, so you literally have to carry your baked items out onto the sidewalk and wait through the entire line again. It's some of the worst people traffic flow design I've ever seen anywhere. At this Emeryville location it used to flow much better the way it was before. I'm a big fan of food co-ops (Rainbow Grocery, Davis and others) so it's so disappointing to see a place like this go backward.

Yelp
Arizmendi does not disappoint and they have delicious artisan pizza. Each day they have a daily special and unless you check their website or try calling ahead, it'll always be a pleasant surprise to learn what's on the menu when you go. I haven't had a bad pie from either of their locations yet. Experiencing their pizzas have also made me biased towards other pizza spots, which I'm not mad about. They're that good! Not too much cheese or ingredients- there's an even balance and they know which ingredients compliment each other which I love because some specials I've had in the past I never thought to pair together. If you're a person who loves dousing their food in sauce then you've got to get their green sauce. It's really good and amplifies the pizza even more and has a hint of spice.

Yelp
We stayed nearby at an Airbnb. I got to walk over to Arizmendi on San Pablo. As I walked I passed people who were walking home carrying bags and cups from there. The scones are delicious. And the cookies. The breads look amazing. The people (all owners--it's a coop) were nice and helpful. I love this place!

Yelp
Arizmendi is an Oakland institution. Like Zacharys is the thick crust icon of Oakland, Arizmendi Is the icon of the thin crust pizza. Arizmendi and Cheeseboard in Berkeley are related cooperatives that are employee owned. Beyond breads and pastries and coffee, they bake one new type of vegetarian pizza per day, in addition to pepperoni at the emeryville location. The website foretells which type of pizza is on the menu for which day. Careful - there are separate websites for each location (Lakeshore, Emeryville, SF) and each has a different menu. The pizza is so great. The flavors are so complex and assembled in such a satisfying manner. My favorites are the pizzas with lemon or a wedge of lime you squeeze on top. The cheese is rich and delicious. The mini slice they put on top of each pie is such a delighter, too.

Yelp
I was having a very Pixar themed day and decided to order some pizza (I read this place was the inspiration behind Pixar's pizza place for the Inside Out movie) and take it to eat in front of Pixar In Emeryville. I ordered a half sheet pizza (4slices: $12.00) online, but also decided to stand in line to order some pastries (chocolate chip cookie ($2.25), rolls $3.00), coffee cake ($3.25), pumpkin chocolate chip muffin ($3.00). Once you place your order, you pick up your items in the side of their building. I appreciate there was no meat on the pizza, but the taste was a (3/5) for me. My favorite was probably the arugula and red onion roll (4/5) and chocolate chip cookie (4/5). Pros: -serve pizza, bakery items, and pizza -they also have vegan pizza -they sell different sizes of pizza which I appreciate (I ordered a half sheet) -accept credit cards -free parking in back Cons: -n/a
