30 Best Restaurants in Lisbon for Crispy Suckling Pig, Pastel de Natas, and Bifana Sandwiches | Condé Nast Traveler

"Calling this “vegetarian” feels reductive; the tasting menu is so varied and satisfying you may reach dessert before noticing there’s no meat or fish. Choose five or seven courses—melon and cucumber soup with homemade basil oil, bell pepper with hollandaise, and tortellini stuffed with mushrooms topped with seaweed dashi—then ask for a cheese plate from the cellar to fully soak in the stone arches, shelves of food books, and warm hospitality. The team’s passion for wine and conversation seals it as a singular Lisbon gem." - Abigail Malbon

"Located in the city centre, with a discreet façade, exposed stone interior, and tasteful minimalist décor. This establishment is run by Brazilian chef João Ricardo Alves, who, after travelling through various kitchens around the world, decided to open this gastronomic spot – definitively vegan/vegetarian to avoid animal protein – together with Alejandro Chávarro (dining room manager and sommelier), who also brings a strong international background. The offering, which is not lacking in technique, is crafted with seasonal produce and stands out for the delicacy and flavour of its sauces, expressed in a single tasting menu accompanied by two alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage pairings. A dish we enjoyed? Their elegant kimchi-tomato-marjoram, presented as delicious filled ravioli." - Michelin Inspector

The 36 Best Restaurants in Lisbon, Portugal | Eater

"Chef João Ricardo Alves was born to a Portuguese father, raised in Brazil, and trained in French cuisine. After working as a butcher in a traditional French restaurant, Alves grew tired of meat, became a vegetarian, and shifted his focus to plant-based cooking. His culinary journey took him across Europe and Asia before he settled in Lisbon to open Arkhe, one of the city’s best vegetarian restaurants. Here, Alves applies his expertise and creativity to flavorful jus and broths as the foundation of his meat-free approach. The menu changes regularly, driven by the freshest vegetables he can source. Meanwhile, his partner, the talented sommelier Alejandro Chávarro, moves gracefully through the dining room, offering expert wine pairings from an innovative, thoughtfully curated list focusing on natural wines, many of which he has found during travels around the globe. Today, the restaurant is located in an elegant, modern space in Largo do Rato, offering a refined yet welcoming dining experience." - Rafael Tonon

I visited Arkhe a few weeks ago and I am very sad to see that they have been closed down temporarily. It was a great experience and you could see that the team was perfectly well coordinated. At entering I was kindly greeted by the front-of-house manager and directly seated. Dietary requirements were clarified again and I decided to go for the tasting menu & wine pairing. The service was amazing, my glass of water was always refilled discreetly and after each course the table was quickly emptied and the wine glass was swapped out for a new one. The food was honestly amazing, the team manages to put out something you won't even question it's vegan since it's just so good. I loved the open ravioli, which was done in such a pretty way and just the layers of flavour. You could see the kitchen threads the fine line in sour food, but masters it perfectly. To close it off, the dessert consisted of different citruses and some kind of vegan panacotta with a little crisp on top of it (coconut from what I remember). I definitely wouldn't have minded to eat more of it. Another thing to note is their homemade limoncello, previously I was never fond of limoncello but they definitely converted me. It was a perfect combination of sweet and sour, while barely tasting the alcohol. I would definitely try to visit Arkhe again, but I might pass on on the wine pairing. I am not the biggest wine fan, but I am glad I tried it with such great food.

I've been numerous times now, even back at the original location when a lunch menu was pretty cheap. As a forme chef, there were some dishes that nailed it, but the overall experience is so far from Michelin, I'm a bit surprised they got a star. Too many cold dishes to start, including a bowl of cold rice and avocado... and no substitute dessert for the vegan menu--just one less dessert. A bit of an overlook if you ask me, especially considering the price tag of 300+ euros we paid for 2pax. No real identifiable value in the dishes, and for this reason, I suspect they won't be able to sustain at these prices. Also, I felt they failed at flavors, putting Japanese flavors next to Italian flavors.... didn't integrate well. Completely incomparable with a more propper vegan Michelin dining experience available at Encanto just a short walk away. I continue to be unimpressed with the meals here but suppose I will try again next year to see if it still disappoints. The pasta and the smoked eggplant dish were sensational, albeit the eggplant lacking sustenance as one of the premier courses. (Tip: since it is eggplant and not pork belly, maybe try offering a larger portion.)

We definitely cannot call ourselves experts in Michelin Star restaurants, but we can feel when we have a great experience. We enjoyed the food (especially the vegan one) and the wine pairings even more. The staff was polite, friendly (but not over-friendly) and the overall experience was great. We definitely appreciated the low voice level of the staff and the calm atmosphere.

Some dishes were totally memorable and refreshing. All dishes were well balanced. Some were a feast of textures. It is one of the rare fine dining restaurants that I have visited and I have thought I'll revisit if I ever get the chance. I think the only weak points were the bread and the cheese platter, for my taste. They were quality products but they were not that great, relative to the other dishes. The bread was something I can easily make (One of my evaluation criteria is always whether I can make a similar food or not). Cheese platters have never been my favorites. This one wasn't an exception neither. It had some nice elements but I think they should always be optional at an additional cost.

The restaurant is very warm and inviting, and the staff are very attentive and friendly. The food is fantastic and unique. I would recommend trying the restaurant even if you’re not a vegetarian, it’s worth it and not overpriced at all for a Michelin place.

What a wonderful meal and evening we had here. They spoke to us before we came to check our preferences. Each dish was innovative, tasty, beautiful and well balanced. The staff were interesting and interested. I would highly recommend it and look forward to going again

I was lucky enough to get a spot at the last minute through the waitlist, it is an intimate place so a reservation is a must. Delicious food and high quality produce. It is hard to compose a 7 course vegetarian menu at Michelin star quality but this place does it and it is relatively affordable. The music was a bit funky for my taste but it is a matter of preference and others might actually like it. The dining room is tastefully designed and the staff are knowledgeable about the dishes and attentive. High recommendation, keep on the good work

The team welcomed me for my birthday, they made me feel special and welcome, and I even got to blow out a candle to mark the occasion! The food was also excellent, very bright and the tastes of spring were incredibly refreshing! I left very satisfied and completely full! I will definitely visit again upon my next trip to Lisbon!!
