"With three full acres, a massive bar, and more activities than you can count, Armadillo Den in South Austin isn’t just a great bar—it’s one of the best places to spend an afternoon in Austin. Around the tables, expect to find the standard suite of bar games (giant Jenga, anyone?), but the main attraction is the ax throwing lane in the back that you can rent by the half-hour in the evenings. Thankfully, Downtown drink prices haven’t quite made their way this far south. And as an added bonus, you can get an additional 10% off your tab if you show the bartender you arrived via rideshare (which you should probably do anyway)." - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion
"With three full acres, a massive bar, and more activities than you can count, it’s easy to spend an entire afternoon at Armadillo Den in South Austin without even realizing it. On the tables, expect to find games like giant Jenga and ring the bull, but the main attraction is the ax-throwing lane in the back. It’s only available in the evenings, but it’s a fun way to kill time with friends in an outdoor environment that feels significantly less sterile than your last ax-throwing work retreat. In the evenings, there’s also live music and a ton of fire pits for the colder months." - nicolai mccrary
"On Saturdays and Sundays during crawfish season, the friendly guys behind the pop-up Let’z Geaux Boil pitch their tent at this outdoor South Austin bar. In case the LSU allusion in the name wasn’t enough of a giveaway, they’re serving Louisiana-style crawfish with potatoes, corn, and sausage that absorb the potent Cajun spices nicely, and a garlic butter sauce for dipping. Armadillo Den is a great place to spend a sunny afternoon peeling crustaceans at picnic tables, but check the Let’z Geaux Boil Instagram before heading over—sometimes they set up at Armadillo’s sister spot Chalmers instead." - nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs
"With three full acres, a massive bar, and more activities than you can count, it’s easy to spend an entire afternoon at Armadillo Den in South Austin without even realizing it. Drinks here tend to lean into “refreshing” territory and come with the added bonus of a 10% discount if you arrive via rideshare. In the evenings, there’s live music, plus a ton of firepits for the colder months. And if you want to let out some aggression, there are even a few lanes in the back for ax throwing. Like we said, Armadillo Den is set on three acres. If there’s an activity and you can think of it, you can probably do it here." - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion
"The far South Austin space has it all: five food trucks (including house truck Biggie’s Yardbird with burgers and chicken sandwiches), lots of drinks, and plenty of outdoor seating. This is a great spot to catch the game on a big screen with other cheering fans. There’s an indoor area, too." - Erin Russell
