The Best Diners in Los Angeles

"When it comes to old-school diners in Eagle Rock, Cindy’s might win in the ambiance department, but Armon’s wins on food. This classic diner dates back to 1962 and still looks the part, with brown vinyl stools wrapping a long bar and a handful of booths along the walls. Service is warm and efficient, and the crispy corned beef hash, cheeseburger club, or french toast are all solid bets. But our heart always goes to the handful of homey Thai dishes on the menu, including an outstanding Thai-style fried rice with bacon. Make sure to ask for a jar of their bright, chile-laced house salsa, which you’ll see every table smothering their plates with like it was ketchup." - brant cox, sylvio martins, garrett snyder

Eagle Rock’s 60-Year-Old Diner Serves Breakfast Basics and Killer Thai Food - Eater LA

"Expect the unexpected at Armon’s Restaurant and Coffee Shop. Physically unaltered since 1962, the diner’s space boasts classic vintage motifs: an L-shaped counter, stacks of Kellogg’s cereal boxes arranged above gurgling coffee machines, midcentury modern wood paneling along the kitchen’s walls, and a board with rotating daily specials like menudo or chicken-apple sausage with eggs. But the menu has evolved over time to reveal surprising specials and no-fuss American classics with a welcome twist: a touch of familiar Thai and Chinese dishes." - Lisa Kwon

Google
My favorite breakfast spot—whether I come here alone or with friends :) My go to is usually one of the breakfast egg combos with hasbrowns and toast. They are so quick here and provide amazing customer service. Been coming here for a while and will keep coming back for sure ❤️ oh and they have the cutest art around the restaurant

Google
Easily one of the best diners in Eagle Rock. That is saying something because there are over five well-known ones that I can think of and I’m sure there are a few more that I can’t. Every time I stop in it’s always very busy, but the wait is never that long. We were able to be seated immediately when we arrived for our 10 AM Sunday brunch. They have a lot of seating indoors as well as out, but I always prefer to sit inside to really soak up the diner atmosphere. This is an Asian-influenced diner that has a lot of Asian flavors on the menu as well as a mostly Asian staff. They don’t have a dedicated parking lot, but parking is very easy to find in this part of town. Our server was very polite and everything we ordered came out extremely fast. I wanted to mix up my usual order so for my last visit so I chose the Hamburger Steak and Eggs. It’s basically a large hamburger patty but cooked just like a steak and honestly, it was delicious. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the side of hashbrowns was as good as I hoped. The portion sizes are large and the prices are fair so it really is a great breakfast or lunch option. I would recommend to any diner fan or anyone searching for a great breakfast option in Eagle Rock.

Google
Been going here for 30 years. It's a very cozy, locals diner with excellent Thai food as well. It can get pretty busy, but if you go early, it can be a relaxing place to have a coffee and a sandwich. But definitely try the salsa on some eggs, it's the best salsa ever. They also have a spicy Thai sauce you can ask for that's delicious. Edit: best onion rings I've ever had.

Locals know: the best of Northeast Los Angeles can be found here. Great staff and great food.

Google
This is a classic, no fills, unpretentious diner. As they should be! Food was tasty, good portions, and reasonably priced. Oh, and they have the best homemade salsa outside of south Texas. I love this spot.

Google
Cute, authentic diner. Food is spot-on diner with a little flare thrown in. My favorite part though is that they give you real cream and a decent amount of it with your coffee. I loathe the little packets

Google
This place was so close to our hotel (Glendale Hotel) that we walked to it. The wait staff was very welcoming. I was trying to find some good eggs, bacon and pancakes. They not only had that, but I was able to get blueberry’s on it and it was delicious. So delicious I almost forgot to record it with a picture. Try them out if you’re in the area!

Yelp
Was there today with my bf. He ordered a patty melt, a cup of coffee, I ordered the spam n egg breakfast, just water to drink. Our bill was $38 and some cents. If you use your credit card there's a surcharge of 3%. No wonder their business went down. All the restos around my house have long lines everyday. Their food so delish and the price is just like Armon's price but much better quality of food. And that server who is related to the owner - she's never been a nice, pleasant server. The rest of the servers are SO NICE. I am so sorry for this report. Wish Pat all the best.

Yelp
Visited Armons Restaurant over the weekend, my second time here and it was just as good as the first time. The hanshbrowns were crispy and eggs made to order, I got the French toast which could've been better but not bad at all. Will be back! Also the women who work here are attentive af, thank you for your service ladies

Brian I.

Yelp
It's so unjustifiably expensive. Went in, sat at the bar, and was so shocked by the standard American breakfast for $19.95, I had to leave. Not sure what all that price tag is paying for.

Yelp
Such a gem in Eagle Rock :) There is metered street parking and also metered parking in the rear of the location. There's a good amount of seating inside and the hostess was so friendly. You can definitely tell there are a lot of regulars that come here. Everything is made to order. I ordered off the Hot off the Griddle Combination (2 eggs, 2 sausage and my choice of Pancakes). My meal came out pretty quickly and everything tasted really good. I enjoyed the pancakes a lot and a short stack was more than enough for me. My partner ordered one of their omelettes and it came with crispy potatoes. This was definitely big enough to share. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. Enjoy!

Yelp
This place has been around since 1962. It's historical in Eagle Rock. They've had two owners overall. The food is delicious. I love the flavor of their pancakes. I ordered the two pancake combo with Portuguese sausage and eggs. I also, ordered cottage cheese and cantaloupe. Everything is made fresh to order with quality ingredients and the taste is scrumptious. I have been coming here for over 20 years and the food and customer service is always impeccable. The ambiance is cool with a mom-and-pop style diner. Note: Daily specials with economical prices. Great place for breakfast or lunch. Decent amount of seating indoors, at the counter, and two tables outside. Metered parking is located on the street or in the rear of the location which is also metered parking.

Yelp
Parking - Street parking only and most of it is metered. There are a handful of spots right in front of the restaurant entrance. Food - I ordered the waffle which comes with 2 eggs any style and a choice of bacon or sausage. I ordered my eggs over easy and selected the bacon. The waffle was thinner than I like, but the flavor was good. Bacon was well done, but not very crispy. Service - When we arrived, no one greeted us or offered to seat us. Two employees were rolling silverware and just talking to each other. We asked if we could get seated and the employee pointed to a nearby booth. The server wasn't friendly and seemed annoyed that we were there during their last hour of operation. The only positive here was that food came out quickly. Keep in mind there was only one other customer there at the time. I'm curious about the Thai food on their menu, but not curious enough to go back.

Yelp
Great home cooked meals. This place has been around for a long time and every dish, still tastes delicious. The recipes haven't changed. They recently added new options to their menu. They have great breakfast and lunch options. Highly recommend for a party of 1 or an entire family.

Yelp
Sunday brunch is probably my happy place. Without further ado let us begin this awesome review. Armon's Restaurant is a vintage diner with counter seats & comfort classics for breakfast & lunch. They are located in the heart of Eagle Rock neighborhood of LA. Armon's brunch menu is vast and economically priced; its atmosphere has a relaxing vibe and amiable staff. We came here to grab brunch. I had for a moment vacillated between ordering healthy and non-healthy food. I ordered a veggie omelette, fresh cut fruits, coffee and wheat toast. Food was good as well as their refillable coffee. Moreover, they offer a free wifi. Plenty of street metered and public parking lots. And finding a free parking was a breeze. Overall, I enjoyed my breakfast and dine-in experience.

Yelp
Time for a review update: I have always enjoyed going to Armon's, Eagle Rock's friendly neighborhood breakfast/brunch diner, for as long as I remember, aside from the few updates on the menu, their food has remained good and true. From the traditional American breakfast to the Thai dishes that I sometimes need the morning after a fun evening - It has remained as tasty as I remember since I first stepped into this place back in 2001! Service has always been friendly and expedient and I really like the old school diner feel, the tables are as it was, not cramped and you have room to move and space for the entire family. Pops has always ordered their Bacon, Eggs & Pancake breakfast, he has always enjoyed this! ( I usually steal one of his fluffy pancakes haha), myself however, I prefer to switch it up all the time, from the veggie omelette, steaks & eggs to the yummy shrimp fried rice! (sooo good and generously served) I always request a 2 eggs toppings for this dish ( over easy) It is so nice that the community has continuously supported Armon's! On weekends, I always see this place buzzing especially during breakfast and brunch hours - this is no surprise! They are a good neighborhood breakfast diner with friendly people and yummy delicious breakfast and dishes which I myself am happy to support! Khob Khun!

Yelp
First time here and this place is delicious. International omelette was what I ordered w home potatoes, all very tasty! It was Veterans Day so they were busy. They serve a killer green salsa that had a Thai / Mexican chili - spice essence that took my breakfast to another level! Looks like they also have some Thai dishes! Coffee is good too. Old school diner nothing fancy here just straight up good food and service. Parking is ok, metered out in back limited street. Definitely coming back, hopefully with my family but we're somewhat far from Eagle Rock.

Yelp
I love this spot. The staff is great. Feels like a family. Corned beef hash and French toast combo is always so good.

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Every time we know we'll be in the area, we come for their steak and eggs! The steak is good but their spicy salsa is delicious! I come here to eat steak and salsa! Lol Service is always nice! Literally we can kill two jars and it'll be just us three! Give it a try!

Yelp
I usually love diners and coffee shops, so when I needed to camp out somewhere for a while and get lunch while I worked on my laptop, I was excited to try this place, which was new to me. I found a street parking meter right outside and entered before 1 p.m. It wasn't busy at all, so when they told me to sit wherever I wanted, I took a booth all to myself. The service was very quick, they came over right away to take my order and brought me my food very quickly. Overall, it was OK. The BLTA's bacon was warm but didn't really taste fully cooked, definitely not crispy. The tomato was mealy. The avocado, however, was very good. The fries were OK, they were like the Ore Ida crinkle cut fries you get in the freezer section and bake in the oven. They could've been crispier. I also prefer fountain soda (with refills) to canned Diet Coke, which is what they had, but that's just my own quirky preference. Overall there wasn't anything outstanding (besides the speed of the service) and the atmosphere wasn't enough to keep me there very long, just a quick in and out today.

Yelp
Weekend service was pretty slow. Standard breakfast fare at a decent price. Interior is cuter and cozier than you'd expect. Taste: I had an omelet and the pork fried rice. The omelet was good, the salsa seemed like your basic grocery store big brand salsa. The fried rice was nice, except that they added tomatoes which I find to be an unnecessary addition. Experience: I actually went two days in a row. The first day, I came alone and the service was fast and easy. I sat outside for the good weather. The second day, I came with two friends and sat inside very close to the register. The second day took forever to get our order in. The staff were just overloaded it seemed. The booths are really comfy and feel like a classic diner. The sounds of the diner and everything. It's a classic, nostalgic breakfast feel. Mood Before/After: in general, I was pretty happy before and after these meals. Fullness: I cleaned my plate both times, but didn't need extra food. What else did I eat/do today affecting my experience: I was in the middle of doing laundry on the first day. Good place to wait.

Yelp
My go-to breakfast spot in Eagle Rock. Friendly local Thai-owned business with great service and delicious traditional American breakfast.
google avatar

Alyssa P.

Yelp
My mom's absolute favorite place to go for a breakfast hamburger patty! I always get breakfast here because of the fresh salsa they make! This time I got a bacon cheeseburger & it was big & beautiful. It was sooooo delicious! I don't eat much red meat anymore, but that's an elite classic burger! Plus they the leave the condiments on the side for you and I loved that too! Delicious! Plus the service is attentive, quick, clean & kind!
google avatar

Yelp
I'd like to describe this place as a Thai diner that serves American breakfast and lunch. And while my group might order yummy pancakes, eggs, corned beef hash, bacon, and hashbrowns or a tuna melt or a soup and salad... I'm ordering Fried Rice. There's chicken, beef, shirmp, pork fried rice. ANd even tofu fried rice if you ask. (suggestion: get a fried egg or two on top) The Dr. Special (stir fried chicken (I don't get it with chicken but get it with fried tofu) with bell pepper, tomato, mushroom, brown onion, green onion and chili served with rice) is also my go-to dish. Get some 'prik-nam-pla' and get some heat into your meal! Of course, bacon, eggs, and a slice of toast is also an option and a good one too.
google avatar

Marianne K.

Yelp
Mediocre food. Mediocre service. Very cute ambiance. Would I go back no. Do I recommend it? Not really.

Joe P.

Yelp
Yuck. Got the breakfast special. Pancakes were so thin and undercooked with no flavor (plus the syrup sucked), scrambled eggs were watery, turkey sausage was whatever. Coffee was good. The service was not met with a smile. The thin owner woman gave me my bill as I was still eating. Bathroom was clean. All this for $18....what a waste, go to dennys !
google avatar

Grace M.

Yelp
First time trying this place. I ordered the patty melt. It was good! My sis in law ordered fried rice... she loved it. I will need to come back and ordered more off the menu. Service was quick.
google avatar

Yelp
Great chow mein noodles. Staff are very friendly. Decent parking. Neighborly atmosphere. Prices are reasonable.
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
Food was delicious, service was quick and ambiance was cozy and welcoming. I'm not a waffle girl but the waffles were delish! Super friendly family-owned & hostess recognized our group from our visit last week!! Very accommodating to our large group of 10 and they have some fun Thai specialties too :)
google avatar

Cindy S.

Yelp
Old school breakfast spot since 1962. I love going out for breakfast so am always looking for a new place to try. If it's an old-school diner type spot am there. This place has the basics. Nothing fancy, but way better than big chain breakfast restaurants. Our food came out fast and tasty. The bacon and hashbrowns were nice and crispy, the corned beef hash good, coffee was constantly refilled, and the pancakes didn't disappoint. Again, basics done right. Affordable prices, good food, nice people running the place - what's not to like!
google avatar

Aileen A.

Yelp
Try the chicken fried rice with house salsa, beef steak with rice and all of the other amazing Asian dishes!
google avatar

Stephen P.

Yelp
Rude encounter means we can't recommend this local joint. Something we left on the table got thrown away. Yes, our mistake. But, the owner didn't want to help retrieve it, but after a stand off she went and brought it out to us. They weren't busy... It was the end of service. Why have that attitude towards your new customers? We wanted to like this place, but actually the food is just ok. Pancakes made from a mix, home fries on my sausage & eggs that were lukewarm. Good points? Owned by a Thai family so it has some Thai dishes on the menu too. Homemade salsa on the table. But, due to the poor experience this place is on my "Nah" list.
google avatar

Aaron N.

Yelp
I love this place! In a world that is constantly becoming modernized or gentrified, this place feels like you're in a 1950's diner. My Go-To meal is the Corned Beef with Hashed browns and eggs. They have a killer salsa that pairs amazing with it. If you're not a spicy kind of person, they have a lot of other great breakfast options as well. The service is always so hospitable and they make you feel like family. Every time I come here, it's as if it's a holiday reunion. Not a lot of places exist where the server greets you: "hey! How are you? How have you been?" I always leave this place happier than when I left. Try 'em out for breakfast, you will be back!
google avatar

Ticha B.

Yelp
Good breakfast and diner spot in Eagle Rock. Somewhat still affordable as well. They also serve Thai food. I'm sure the owner is Thai since most of the wait staff are Thai, and there's Thai food on the menu. Had yummy pancakes, corned beef hashed and eggs, and their club sandwich. Credit card okay, street and parking in the back, social distance indoor and outdoor dining available.

Michelle P.

Yelp
Best place for breakfast or lunch - never disappoints. I have moved to different cities and still come here for breakfast or lunch - they have menudo on the menu I love there hotlines and eggs and cornbeef hash. Metered Parking in the back or on the street. They also have stir fry dishes that are amazing for all day. Menu options are available all day.
google avatar

Kat K.

Yelp
My partner and I happened to be in the area and were searching for a place for breakfast. Found this place on Yelp, and it had great reviews so we decided to give it a go. So happy we did! This is a no frills everyday diner on the outside and inside, but the food here is superb!!!! And nicely priced to boot! Service wasn't great, but good enough! Definitely a place I would return to during a visit to the area. We had an omelette, with refried beans and a waffle. The beans were made right, with LARD, and full of flavor. The waffle was not to my liking due to the spices. I am not a fan of cinnamon in my pancakes French toast or waffles. If you ever find yourself in the area, this is a place you want to check out. They also had Thai food available to order.
google avatar

Steven S.

Yelp
We have a lot of diners in this area. This is my favorite. The staff are so friendly and everyone loves their breakfast when I bring them here. Great value in and old school setting.
google avatar

Yelp
Clean, comfortable spot with great food and service every time. I'm ready to post this.

Barry B.

Yelp
First time here a couple of days ago. Just had a pancake combo. Everything prepared perfectly. Pancakes very tasty. Eggs and sausage couldn't be better. I will definitely come back again.

Yelp
My go to! Love the staff and the food. A variety of options and all of them are delicious.

Yelp
How great is Armon's? Before the pandemic, it was that place we'd rarely visit because it was too crowded. During the pandemic, they became a go-to weekend takeout place. Now, they're back if you want some in-person breakfast or lunch. Pancakes, hamburger clubs and Thai fried rice (which, in my Midwestern, but adventurously-eating opinion is very good!). We're still a takeout family, and the food travels really well. It's even better in person. Sometimes we eat in the secret, shared outdoor space in the back. Enjoy!
google avatar

Yelp
This is family owned and operated coffee shop/restaurant in Eagle Rock has established themselves as a staple in the neighborhood. Focusing on home style cooking, the menu offers all your familiar traditional breakfast and lunch items, but also some Thai specialties. Just be aware some of these dishes can be quite spicy, so please specify how spicy you want your dish. The staff tries their best to take care of your dining needs, but it can get busy at times. To ensure your comfort while eating, they ask guests waiting for an available table to wait outside. I have to say, it's kind of nice not to have people hovering over you while you're eating. The only drawback I have with this place is the parking. Parking in the rear has monitored parking meters, plus the parking lot is shared with other businesses. Street parking in the rear is sparse, but you might be able to find free parking a couple blocks away. Otherwise, everything else about this place is excellent.

Sarah L.

Yelp
As I walked in, a smell of old establishment rushing to greet me! One lonesome customer sat at the end of the bar. Two customers waiting depressively at their table. The one and only waitress lady never noticed my existence after I standed at the door for a minute. Her head didn't turned once toward the door or to the existing customers. I decided to sit myself right behind the waitress, but her sole focus was at the kitchen. I waited patiently for another minute, the waitress still very focus communicating with the cook. Until I left the restaurant after stayed there for two mintues, I didn't even know how is the waitress looked like!

Eric U.

Yelp
It's been a while since I visited Armon's, and it was just as good as ever! Friendly, professional and attentive service. Delicious food, with large portions. I'll keep coming back here for a great meal. Truly an Eagle Rock gem.

william g.

Yelp
DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!!! This place has been around since the 1960s and yet despite having grew up not far from here, I never ate here until this passed week. I kind of understand why this place isn't struggling like other places for a few simple reasons.....1) The portions on their plates are gigantic (had an omelet and hash Browns which both took up the entire plate and I could assure you it was a large size plate), 2) one omelet plate, one bowl of menudo, and two coffees came out to roughly $40 (anywhere else would have been another $10-$15 more), and 3) thank goodness to know that this place does not charged some stupid service fees. I've always said that it is important to support small businesses especially if they are run by a family. This small, family owned restaurant is the perfect example of how reasonable prices, large portions, and no hidden service fees will result in success and not a vacant building.
google avatar

Jim W.

Yelp
Updating my review from 5 years ago. Still a solid diner that I hit up regularly. Omelets are already solid, like the home fries. No gluten free bread options unfortunately.
google avatar

Renee T.

Yelp
I always enjoy their food. It's like it's being cooked from your Home kitchen. Their polish sausage breakfast plate is so good especially with their homemade salsa!! For lunch I would order BLTA with fries and it always hit the spot. However public parking is hard to find. If you park out front, you would need to pay as it's metered parking. The waitresses there are very friendly as well. I have been going there for about 20 years and they never disappoint me!

Yelp
This place has been here forever. And that should tell you something. An iconic little gem that was around in eagle rock way before beards, plaid and yoga were on every corner. If you're looking for a decent breakfast for a decent price without the frills and glam then this is the place for you. Daily specials that range from 2 eggs 2 bacon and pancakes for about $7 bucks to traditional favs like omelettes and French toast, Armon's has pretty much everything. You'll be sure to find regulars sitting at the counter or in their booths. Menu selection isn't huge but it covers all the bases. The breakfast specials for $7 is pretty decent. You can find the same special at other joints for 10-12 bucks. 5/5 for this special. I also tried the feta cheese omelette. That was a steady 4/5. The size is good and the flavor on point. Slightly over cooked but still good. Again this place is perfect for a quick bite when you're in the area.
google avatar

Denise J.

Yelp
This place doesn't look like much from outside or inside. However, the food is definitely homestyle breakfast and lunch. When you walk on it looks like an old dinner. But, trust me the food is good. It is family owned and the service is really good. I had the maple chicken sausage, home potatoes, eggs over easy and sourdough bread. My husband had the breakfast combo with pancakes, sausage, and scrambled eggs. Both we very good. In addition, I will try the fried rice next time. I always see people ordering with their meals. If your in the Eagle Rock area Armon's is a must. Trust me it's good. I will add pictures the best time I go. You can find them on yelp and check them out.

Shelly D.

Yelp
I love this place! Great, fast service, great prices, great food! Old school diner food. Sometimes you just need a diner!
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Nothing special. The huevos rancheros were decent, as were the pancakes. My other two table mates had omelettes, which both described as "okay." Certainly not worth going out of your way for, but if you're in the neighborhood and are a sucker for diners, as some including myself, are then it's worth a stop despite not being exceptional.

Yelp
We moved to the area a couple years ago and really wanted to find a new breakfast spot that could become part of our weekend routine. We'd passed by for about a year before we stopped in, and I'm so glad we did! Mission accomplished! The family of women who own and run this place are so friendly; it's homey and familiar, with a big American diner-style breakfast and lunch selection and good portion sizes. Because the owners are Thai, there are a few Thai dishes on the menu, AND I can order rice with my eggs - something I miss as a Hawaiian expat and can rarely find! The house-made salsa they bring out is also really good. We're regulars now. I've read some negative comments about prices, but they feel really reasonable in my opinion - it's always bustling in there with families and patrons of all backgrounds, including college students and older locals. Plus, they shut down at the beginning of the year for a few weeks for their staff to take a vacation - seems to me like they're charging what they need to take care of their staff!

Yelp
I've been coming here for the past ten years so this review is overdue. Armon's is one of the many things I loved when I lived in Eagle Rock. Now my husband and I drive here just because we love their breakfast. Always fast and friendly people. Refreshing iced tea, great breakfast selections, good price, homemade salsa, and most of all, the fluffiest pancake! This place is a real gem. If you're looking for a great breakfast diner in Los Angeles, this is the place to go!

Yelp
My favorite pancakes! I love this place, I come here for breakfast and the pancakes. They have an amazing home made spicy salsa that goes well on everything!

Yelp
I ordered chicken fried steak because Yelp mentioned it's the most popular dish. Average chicken fried steak at an old diner. Service was ok, prefer other options on the same street.
