I love Thai food, my wife lived there for years & we frequent Thai Phooket religiously. It's our go to comfort food. Japanese cuisine is just below that level of affection but equally revered in our household. When I saw the reviews starting to come in for A-Roi I made it a priority to get here soon with some of my best foodie friends & resident Thai food snob (my wife). Made reservations for six people on a Wednesday at 7 PM. I arrived a little early around 640 and was seated immediately.
The space is dim lit & gives romantic vibes. The bar to the right is well furnished & the center sushi bar compliments the wider dining area well. They have done a good job with decor & aesthetics.
I spent 10 mins or so perusing the drink & food menus before the rest of my party arrived, and we started ordering. I started with the Thai mule, which honestly is my favorite iteration of the classic drink that I've had thus far. It was crisp, refreshing, aromatic AF, & presented wonderfully. Had it not been a Wednesday and had I not been up since 6 AM I probably would've had a second. I also had a damn good Thai tea here. Rich black tea with the perfect whipped blend of sweetened condensed milk. Diabetes in a glass but so worth it.
One of the specials of the day was the pork Katsu cutlet with curry. I originally came here with the mindset that I was going to try two or three things sticking, mostly to the Thai inspired dishes but Japanese curry and fried pork is my favorite comfort food so when it's available I must partake for mental health reasons. It was a very large portion of curry with a nice size amount of fried pork, cutlet, aromatic rice, and I think pickled cabbage. Tasty as expected & made a hell of a lunch the next day. also, on the specials menu was a soy sesame Lotus dish. I did not inquire about its preparation or whether it was served hot or cold, because I freaking love lotus & it sounded good. I was correct, it was thinly sliced & soaked in a umami filled sauce & cooked just enough to preserve the perfect crunch. My wife got the Kao Soi Gai & loved it. She has not been as pleased with a dish as she was with this in some time & even showed her appreciation by complimenting the chef in Thai via our waiter.
Looking forward to coming back her again to try some more of the menu. Wishing them nothing but success.
