Why More Vegas Chefs Are Moving From the Strip to the Suburbs | Eater Vegas

"Launched in May 2021 after a period running a catering company, this independent Italian restaurant channels the chef’s Strip training into a signature chef’s tasting menu format: multi-course, surprise-driven meals that can range from four to six courses and be tailored for small groups or parties up to about 40 guests, appealing to diners who enjoy being surprised rather than choosing from a standard menu." - Maddy Sweitzer-Lamme

Everything we ordered was delicious and freshly made. The wait staff were attentive and helpful with the menu. They also had good recommendations on what to eat. The restaurant atmosphere was bright and joyful. We ordered the fried burrata as an appetizer. It came with mortadella and a pistachio pesto sauce. I’ve never had a dish like that and enjoyed it a lot. My wife got the table side gnocchi inside of the pizza crust. She enjoyed having the pizza crust as a bowl. I ordered the spicy vodka sauce with rigatoni. The spice level was perfect and I managed to eat the whole plate. All of the portions were large and will definitely fill you up. Lastly we ordered the chocolate cake which was decadent and delicious. We will definitely be back with friends and family!

I have been looking for a vodka sauce dish in San Diego for 10 years in San Diego and haven’t been able to find anything comparable to the east coast. This place delivered! Adorable atmosphere and delicious food super reasonably priced. The steak was cooked perfectly as well. Can’t wait to try the pizza next!

Celebrating fathers day and decided to do lunch to beat the crowd, its a beautiful sunny hot day in San Diego. I made reservations prior to arrival just incase it was a bit busy, there was plenty of parking when we arrived. When approaching the entrance we were greeted and seated right away and we had the opportunity to pick our seats to our liking. Place is beautifully designed and laid out has a great nice vibrant atmosphere loved all the decor in the restaurant. The host shared the soup and pasta of the day which was greatly appreciated, as that helped us place our order. We did order the mushroom soup of the day and pasta which was incredibly tasty and delicious, this was our first time tasting a mushroom soup and I have to say we loved it. We also ordered an order of garlic bread which went great with everything else. I had a cucumber mojito that was nicely refreshing and I enjoyed it very much, I could hardly taste the rum so it wasn’t too strong but good enough to enjoy. Lastly the dish I ordered was a couple of sides combined into one, as they did that accommodation for me. I ordered a stuffed portobello mushroom that tasted just like lasagna, roasted mixed vegetables and rosemary baked potatoes. My visit there was nice and was a wonderful experience, service and food was beyond my expectations and I highly recommend it for any occasion.

This place blew us away. I'd say we're expert italian food eaters. We have a high bar when it comes to eating italian food. Vodka sauce 5/5, Pasta 5/5, pizza they nailed it 5/5, the olive oil is high quality. Tiramisu dessert is a must order. They do a special presentation. The cream is unreal. We're going to be regulars at this restaurant from now on.

Visited for the first time during restaurant week. We had the cheese wheel, calamari and shrimp, artichoke hearts, canoli and chocolate raspberry mousse cake. We also had beer and cocktails. The service was amazing, excellent food everything was delicious.

We arrived at 5 on a Friday before they even got busy and the service was so bad! Our waiter chose to stand in a corner and chit chat the entire evening, rather than serve guests, remember this was before they even got busy! My glass of water was dirty and had someone else lip marks on it. In addition, the table wasn’t even clean and had the pizza crumbs of who knows how many patrons dinner prior to us. After 6 it was a packed restaurant. The food portions are small and just meh…..there is no protein options in any of the pasta dishes except for one or two and the amount is laughable! You’ll pay extra for any protein options!!!!! the table side pasta special was good but you pay premium for that, and again it had maybe half an Italian sausage in it 🙄The table side tiramisu was a cute concept and absolutely delicious! But other than that, based on price, portions and bad service, I will not be back.

Google
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Authentic Italian Experience in San Diego I had the carbonara and it instantly took me back to Rome—truly the closest thing I’ve tasted since visiting Italy. The service was incredible, and the owner even came by to chat with us, which made the experience feel even more authentic. The wine selection is a bit limited, but the Barolo was perfect. The owner also surprised us with a tiramisu, and it was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend. I’ll definitely be returning!

We really wanted to like Aromi. We called within an hour of arriving and were thankful to have secured a reservation for two. They also have an awesome pre-fixe "date night" special for $59, but since it was San Diego Restaurant Week, we opted to order from that menu knowing we could return another evening and try their date night special. We ordered their Arancini and Fungo Ripieno for our appetizers. The Arancini ball was tasty but the tomato sauce honestly tasted like the sauce from a Ragu Spaghetti O's can. The Mushroom appetizer was loved by both my wife and I. We highly recommend the Mushroom appetizer! My wife ordered their Cheese Wheel Pasta (it was an additional $5 on top of their $37/per person pre-fixe menu). It was a large fettuccine pasta served with square sausage cubes and mushrooms in a white cream sauce. It was delicious but heavy. After 3 bites, it already felt filling. I ordered the Eggplant Parmesan and for a baked dish served out of the oven, temperature-wise, it wasn't served hot enough and was on the low temperature side of warm. It also was quite small, as I've had shareable crème brûlée dish the size of my eggplant parm entree. The chosen Limoncello cake & cannoli desserts were okay, nothing to brag about but they weren't bad either. As far as our service, we had to ask for their house bread as it wasn't offered, and upon getting the basket of bread, it was received cold. When I asked for my coke, it took quite a while to have it brought to the table. I honestly was about to tell our server to forget about bringing me one, but it came to the table at the time I was going to cancel my order. We don't know if Restaurant Week had overwhelmed the wait staff and kitchen because prior Yelp reviews really rave about this neighborhood Italian restaurant. They have a nice outdoor patio which might be great during the warmer months, as well as a nice private dining table for 8-10 separate from their main dining area which would be lovely for a medium sized group or special occasion. We may try Aromi again for their date night special after Restaurant Week is over... It was slightly disappointing but it may very well have been an off night.

Yelp
This place is the absolute best! Amazing ambience and service is incredible. The staff is so extremely kind and delicious food.

Yelp
Service was friendly and they do not rush you atttt all. That was nice! Food was spectacularly delicious. My pasta was soooo freakin good. It was both chewy and al dente. The sauce was divine in flavor and texture. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall with lots of parking. There's indoor and outdoor seating. There's lots of space inside the restaurant and it's so well decorated. You can tell they put in so much thought into the design of the interiors. It really elevated the entire experience for me.

Yelp
Food was delicious! I ordered Pappardelle Ragu, loved the rich hearty sauce and thick fat noodles was perfect! i forgot to order bread :( Friends ordered the Gnocchi, chicken parmigiana, pizza & the salad came in a pizza bread bowl! what!! yes, give me all of it! even the big pieces of anchovies!! love love anchovies in caesar salad! we also got the truffle fries which surprisingly i was not a fan of cause i normally love truffle anything!! maybe the fries was too skinny or there wasn't enough truffle, idk, but anyway, no one goes to an italian restaurant for fries anyway. also ordered the crispy burrata to go & popped it in the air fryer to reheat & it was delicious! the pesto was perfect. sadly we did not have room for dessert. hostess was very accommodating cause they got pretty busy, it was a saturday. there's room for improvement with the wait staff, had to wave my arms in the air like i just don't care a couple times, but maybe cause it was busy & we were in the corner overall, good experience & food was excellent also white sangria was better than the red. it was mango or peach, can't remember but it was so refreshingly good no pics were taken, we were too hungry!

Yelp
Came here for San Diego Restaurant Week 2025, and I was obsessed! I enjoyed the fritto misto, as the portion was HUGE, and it was a nice variety of the squid, shrimp, and the veggies. My group of three had three different pastas that we shared, and each was delicious! You can really taste the ingredients in the sauce, and nothing tasted artificially flavored. The spicy rigatoni definitely was spicy for those who are not used to spice. Chicken parmigiana was tasty and is usually my go-to for any place that serves pasta. Luckily, for those who want a little spice, they do offer some peppers and parmesan as a "sprinkle" on top of your pasta. The alcohol was tasty and pleasing to look at. The server was very informative and nice. I do wish that they came around more often with water; however, I am never shy to flag a waiter/waitress down. This place is so dang CUTE. I would come here for a date night or a girl group hangout. The parking is plentiful, and you can even eat outdoors. You can host bigger parties here for sure, and for a table of 10, you can sit at a secluded part of the restaurant. I have not come here for a normal meal; however, next time I come, I will for sure be trying the pizza. The price is kind of costly, however, I would come again.

Yelp
Can't believe we have not found this place sooner! My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful date night at this local gem. You know a restaurant is going to be good when you can smell the delicious aroma from outside. The atmosphere and decor makes you feel like you're downtown or in little Italy. The service was wonderful and speedy. We did happen to beat the dinner rush which I am sure helped. For drinks we had the lemon drop and peach Bellini. Both were light and refreshing not overly sweet. For dinner we ordered the carbonara and chicken Parmesan. Both were delicious! Unfortunately we had no room left for dessert, however we will be back! The pizza looked amazing.

Yelp
We came for SD restaurant week. The food was hit and miss. The stand outs were the arancini and cannoli, literally the best I've ever tasted. The fritto misto was a good portion but didn't taste fresh. Chicken Parmesan was dry. Bolognese was bland. Maybe the kitchen was having an off day or they were overwhelmed bc of restaurant week. Plenty of parking. Decor is cute, floor plan is spacious with a lot of good outdoor seating. Would be good for large groups

Yelp
My pick for our Old Friends, New Places dinner!!! Was kinda worried what everyone ratings would be as it's in a little strip mall off the side of the 8. But OMG!! Sooo good!! The food, the service, the atmosphere. All of it was amazing!! Listening to them speak Italian, the cuteness inside, and the food could not have been more perfect. We had the cheese done at the table. It rotates but this night was a sausage and mushroom sauce. It was our favorite of the night. Also tried the rigatoni carbonara, and a pizza. They have a side entrance if you are doing just pizza as well and the best looking pizza oven! We will be going back for sure, and going to get pizza in between as the crust is already calling us back!! It's a must try!! *Our only recommendation, they should cover the glass outside with the grass wall or something to hide the parking lot.

Yelp
If you're a target for mosquitoes always opt for indoor seating. Parking was ample. Food was amazing. But I was also on the menu for the night for the mosquitoes in the area. If there is anything the restaurant can do to help out with this situation, perhaps putting fans for airflow in the outdoor area might even help. The baby seats were also not all in the best condition. The seatbelts for the chairs were non-functional for some of them. If not for those two things, I would give this place perfect marks so if this doesn't apply to you, this Italian place is a must try. I had their pizzas during my visit but they have other items on the menu which I trust are equally scrumptious.

Yelp
Sitting just off the 8, the restaurant is now connected to the pizzeria next door. The inside is very comfortable and we were offered our preference of where to sit. Staff was initially welcoming and service overall was okay. The server was helpful initially but the only few things I would say that were negative include not checking if we needed another drink, not bringing more water, and not asking if we would like any parmesan cheese once our food came out. The food in general was good with flavor except that the pasta was undercooked on 2 of the plates. I highly recommend the cannoli which was up there for one of the best I've had. The cheesecake was also very good. I would definitely recommend checking them out despite those few minor things. Next time I want to try the pizza which looked amazing.

Yelp
An authentic, delicious Italian restaurant. Everything was DELICIOUS. Be prepared to come hungry & leave so stuffed you gotta unbutton that top button of your pants. Staff was so friendly and attentive, it genuinely felt like a family restaurant with the aesthetic of little Italy. All in la Mesa. Will definitely come back

Yelp
Love love love! Something I don't say lightly. My curiosity was peaked by reports from fellow yelpers and seeing something about an incredible cheese wheel (there's a fancier name but I don't recall it). We had a long day so I needed to order our meals to go. Mom loves Italian and dad is very traditional making me slightly nervous about choosing something to make us all happy. The place was bustling as promised in reviews. Despite how busy it was, I was greeted with a huge smile, energy and enthusiasm. Placed my order and decided to head to the bar as I waited. Fell in love again hearing Italian accents! Despite the rush, the team took the time to get to know my name and keep me informed about my order. My drink arrived just ahead of my order so I was a bit worried it would stay warm enough for the trip home -- surprisingly it was! Here comes the reason for the third love! We opened the boxes, pulled out our forks and yummm! For me, this feels like one of the first best meals I've had since taking up residence out here! And the joy of hearing both my parents enjoying every morsel well, that's a home run in my book! We shared ragu del Nona (had dad in mind). Thick noodles cooked to perfection and not drowning in sauce! Next was pistacchiosa -- elegantly new for us. Just the right amount of pistachio sauce without overpowering the meal. (We probably should have heated up the cheese.) This may easily became my new birthday spot! ;-). Slightly more than we can do frequently but very definitely our special occasion spot. If you haven't gone, hurry, get your reservation and enjoy!!

Yelp
I am gluten free. When I asked the server what options there were he mentioned dishes that the description said were served with bread. I ordered a salad. It was ok, my friend ordered a pasta that looked and smelled absolutely amazing.

Yelp
What a fun experience that my friends and I had a few nights ago at Aromi. Why I hadn't been here until recently...?! We ordered the calamari which was really fresh and the serving was very generous. Other than the fact that they could have been fried for another two minutes, we all enjoyed them. Next up, was the arancini. These were exceptional. Very well seasoned and surprisingly tasty, I highly recommend these. Aromi doesn't miss a beat when it comes to their red sauces either. The depth of flavor in my friend's " Ragu Della Nonna ", was exceptional. You could taste the true, from scratch, soffritto underlining the foundation of her pappardelle + 'ragu'. We split a mortadella pizza with burrata and it was incredible. Another friend had the chicken parmigiana and I had a bite, it was equally amazing, tender, and the portion size with a side of pasta was impressive. I split the spicy vodka, adding guanciale and opting for it to be served on fettucine. The vodka sauce was perfect. Wow, and bring on the parmesan! Highly recommend this dish! The table ordered a sangiovese and I asked the waiter to please make sure the bottle is slightly chilled [cellar temp not SoCal warm]. It was disappointing that he quickly returned to the table and started pouring from this bottle, not even acknowledging the request [?] Not sure quite what happened here, as Brad, our server was really attentive for the most part. So I opted for a sparkling rose, and asked for a wine chiller for the red. Wouldn't you know it; the second half of the bottle was massively better to the palate, and revealed the wine now that it was at a proper temperature. He made up for it with a few pours of wine and this was an appreciated, kind gesture. I hope they source a better Vermentino for the wine menu Brad was a great server, and even went out of his way to ask the kitchen to whip up a white sauce or aioli for the calamari and they came through! Thank you Aromi! We'll be BACH!

Yelp
I decided to give Aromi another try, but unfortunately, it didn't quite hit the mark for us. The food was a bit of a disappointment. Some dishes were undercooked, and others just didn't have much flavor. We were hoping for more of a flavor punch, but everything felt a bit flat, (of course this could've changed) but... Service also wasn't great. We hardly saw our server throughout the meal and didn't get checked on until the very end, when the bill was dropped off. However, the manager did apologize and offer to make another dish. We appreciated that gesture, even though we were already ready to wrap up.

Yelp
Excellent experience every single time!! The food is always GREAT! The staff is always very attentive and friendly! The atmosphere is wonderful! Aromi is always a very enjoyable experience!

Yelp
4.5 Stars? Still Great? Service is always friendly and fantastic, and ambience is beautiful, chic, and modern. 1st Visit: DATE NIGHT SPECIAL MENU! Mon-Thu only: $59 gets you an appetizer, two pasta dishes, and dessert to share. When you compare the costs of the all the items individually, this is a pretty sweet deal! Arancini balls were a hot, crispy, flavorful appetizer. Ragu was a great red sauce. Carbonara was perfect! Limoncello Cake was lovely! Service was prompt and excellent! 5 Stars! 2nd Visit: I got the cheese wheel pasta, which I had been dying to try for years and finally got my chance. $35 gets you the entire show with the cheese wheel guy torching up your cheese wheel of choice, then stirring in your pasta, which came with mushroom, grilled chicken, spices, and truffle oil. Overall quite delicious! I just wish the overall portion was a bit larger, even if it just meant more pasta. $11 Pomodoro Bruschetta...Fresh tomato, garlic, basil on fresh ciabatta bread...lovely! 4 Star overall...service was a bit slow despite the restaurant being 1/3rd full, we saw our pastas waiting for us on the kitchen counter but no one to deliver promptly.

Yelp
We came to Aromi as a group of six and had a mixed experience. When we arrived, we were seated inside, but it was uncomfortably warm--everyone was sweating--so we asked to be moved outside. Thankfully, the staff was accommodating and moved us with no issue. To start, we ordered the crispy burrata, Caesar salads, and fritto misto...all of which were enjoyable and nicely prepared. However, the main courses were hit or miss. I ordered the fettuccine with shaved truffles as listed on the menu, but there were no shaved truffles...just truffle oil. When we asked about it, the staff confirmed it was only truffle oil, which definitely should've been clarified on the menu. There were also a few service hiccups. A couple of sodas we ordered were forgotten until we waved someone down, and they mixed up the protein on one of the cheese wheel pasta dishes. Overall, Aromi is a cute spot with a charming vibe and some solid dishes, but a few service issues and menu miscommunications held the experience back from being great. The staff menus were all very friendly though.

Yelp
Such an aesthetic restaurant, really good lighting and very open with the option of inside or outside dining. The customer service was great, the food was DELICIOUS. Portion sizes are good and the pricing is fair, I would definitely come back for more! I ordered the Caprese which was very refreshing and the Rigatoni Carbonara which was a bit salty for me but still delicious as it was my 1st time trying it. My partner ordered the Ravioli which was delicious as well.  Cheers!

Yelp
2nd time at Aromi and I am a fan. Service is attentive, even on a busy Saturday night. Enjoyed Caesar salad for an appetizer (enough for 2!) and Paccheri pasta - the saffron cream sauce with sausage and sun dried tomatoes was divine! Nice wine list too featuring Italian faves like Montepulciano. Didn't order a dessert because we were too stuffed! Nice ambiance with outside seating options in case you have a well-behaved pup you want to bring along on your date!

Yelp
When I walked in I was thinking to myself, what the heck is going on here? All of these great reviews but not a customer in the dining room. There were a couple of women slugging some wine on the patio but other than that, a total ghost town. This was at about 5:30 PM. I'll fast forward a bit to let you know that the reviews held up and the dining room was bumping only about an hour later and thankfully I was posted up on the patio with the other wine-os. Some initial confusion came when I went to order some drinks. The cocktail menu had all kinds of cocktails and one of them was a Moscow Mule that clearly defined vodka as an ingredient, as it should. So, if you have vodka you should be able to make a vodka/soda, right? Wrong. I was told that "we only have beer and wine," which is fine, just don't tease me with my favorite cocktail ingredients. Secondly, I was offered sparkling or flat water upon being seated and after ordering flat water I was served a $7.00 bottle. Quite deceptive but I'm not one to make a scene and took the hit without saying a word, but this should be declared to the customers and not a surprise. I can see this being a bigger issue for others, but I let it slide, my fault for not asking. I ordered two pizzas and a caprese salad from our server when it was go time. The salad came out quickly and while tasty, it was pretty ugly and seemed skimpy with the tomatoes sloppily sliced in half. Maybe it's just me but I'd like to see the ingredients for such a simple dish to be manipulated minimally. A fat slice of tomato, a fat chunk of cheese, and neatly dressed with basil and olive oil. Let me do the additional chopping, I'm okay with that. For the pizzas... Rustica: Fresh mozzarella, Italian sausage, mushroom, parmesan cheese. This is my type of pizza based on the ingredients. Simple but pungent with some high quality mushrooms. You can tell the parmesan cheese was high quality and the pizza seemed to be well prepared. Stay tuned. Prosciutto: Tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, arugula, imported prosciutto, shaved parmesan cheese. Another pizza that totally speaks to my taste profile as I'm a big lover of arugula on pizza. It freshens things up and cuts through the heaviness of a pie. I added a chunk of burrata and it made for a nice combo. The pizzas, while tasty did lack structure and were reallllly floppy and didn't hold up under the weight of the ingredients, both of them. This went a bit further when I went to box up the leftover pizza and they stuck horribly to the peel that they were served on. I had to scrape it free with a knife to get it into the box because the toppings bled through so badly that it almost glued the crust to the peel. Not the best end result. The last thing that rubbed me wrong was how quickly the server came to pick up the bill after I signed it... while I was still sitting there. This, to me, comes off really, really, tacky. I've waited tables and it was taught to me that you never grab the signed check while the guests are still sitting at the table. Trust that you gave good enough service that you are willing to wait for your reward, the tip. This review went much longer than I anticipated but I thing everything I said should be conveyed to the business to be the best that they can be in order to serve the hungry guests the best that they can.

Yelp
Went here for my bf's bday and everything was fantastic! Food was fast, drinks were strong, and the service was great as well. They also gave him a little dessert at the end when I told them it was his bday- we will definitely come back :) they have a pizzeria next door too that looked pretty busy even towards the end of the night

Yelp
Aromi italian cuisine is a popular establishment in La mesa. We went on a Saturday night at it wasn't that busy. The ambience is great. Well lit, nice decoration in a fairly large space. The food on the other hand was average. My carbonara was separated and greasy mess. Although the pasta was perfectly cooked. They used to sell pizza here but now they have a dedicated pizza restaurant right next door so they don't serve pizza at aromi which is also another drawback. Edit: Pizza IS served at aromi Italian cuisine. Seems that we either didn't get the pizza menu or completely overlooked it.

Yelp
Aromi's family-style antipasti board is a masterpiece of Italian flavors. It included: Arancini Crispy Burrata with pistachio pesto Caramelized Onion Bruschetta Fresh arugula salad with dried cranberries and crumbled cheese Garlic Bread I absolutely loved the cheese wheel Parmigiano!! The ambiance? Pure magic--mirrors on the ceiling, a stunning wine wall, a floral feature wall, and the cutest furniture to set the perfect vibe. the service was quick and staff was friendly. If you're craving Italian with a side of charm, this place is a must-try!

Yelp
First time here and it won't be the last! Drink I ordered was the lemon drop - can't go wrong with it, I found it to be a bit too tarte for my liking but my boyfriend loved it. My boyfriend and I ordered the crispy burrata - which I really loved because i'm a huge mozzarella stick person and it tasted just like that (minus the mortadella/bologna) and the pistachio pesto on top was a nice touch. Then ordered the truffle parmesan fries because these are my favorite appetizers (anywhere) which was pretty standard tasting. Then my bf ordered the spicy rigatoni vodka pasta with sausage - it was really good but just really spicy, a bit more than we were used to. I ordered the fettuccine tartufo which was really nice but I was expecting shaved truffle as it was listed as an ingredient in the menu... but I don't believe I got that... which is 1 of the reasons why it's 4/5 stars. For dessert we got the chocolate cake... we weren't aware that it actually had strawberry bits in it but it's not a complaint at all because it was delicious and we ate it up! However, I will say that I was confused why we weren't offered certain things off the dessert menu as the table next to us got to order a nutella pizza... and the waiter only told us they had 2 types of cake and cannoli for dessert. We asked if there was tiramisu and he said "no," which again was strange considering we saw tons of pics/reviews raving about the tiramisu... maybe they don't offer it for lunch? But again... was confused because there was a "tiramisu pizza" that could be ordered on the back of the same menu... Overall thought the food was pretty superb and a reasonable price... was just a bit confused on a couple of the dessert options as well as me not getting any shaved truffle on my pasta... The place is very beautiful by the way, really loved the setting of the restaurant with the floral decor.

Yelp
Super bright lights - felt like eating dinner in the middle of Walmart. I ordered carbonara and the pasta was undercooked with way too much salt and huge chunks of overcooked guanciale. Garlic bread was soggy and had a load of oregano dumped on top. Service was great but my friend and I agreed we will never return. I had 2 bites of my pasta and it looked like a congealed mess. Go to Trattoria Antica instead.
google avatar

Joey D.

Yelp
I'll start with the service. The service was great and very attentive to our needs. The crispy burrata as an appetizer was a plus. We also got the cheesy garlic bread and it did t disappoint. I got the Ragú Della Nona and I wasn't the biggest fan. I tried my wife's Paccheri and I enjoyed the few bites I had. My daughter got the Rigatoni Carbonara and that was my favorite of the 3 dishes. All around a very good experience at Aromi - next time I'll try their pizza

Yelp
Aromi absolutely blew me away. The Italian food here is off the f**king chain - every bite tasted fresh, homemade, and packed with flavor. From start to finish, the vibe was welcoming and the service made it even better. Brad, our server, crushed it. He was attentive without hovering, knew the menu inside and out, and made us feel taken care of the whole night. It's rare to find a spot where the food and service (Brad) both hit this level, but Aromi nailed it. Definitely one of the best Italian dining experiences I've had in San Diego - can't wait to come back As for the food, we did restaurant week and had the cheese wheel. Super good.

Yelp
We came to this restaurant for restaurant week. The place was packed, and rightfully so. I truly appreciate the staff making accommodations for us because we didn't realize we made our OpenTable reservations for 830 and had arrived at 6:30 PM again, the place is packed, but they managed to give us a table Instead of making us wait two hours. We truly appreciate the great customer service and the food was delicious as well. I ordered the Caesar salad and the pistachio and crusted salmon on top of pesto risotto as my main dish. I followed it up with a slice of their lemon cake, which was absolutely decadent. I would recommend this restaurant and would come again. Glad we tried it for restaurant week.

Yelp
Food was good. Place was busy. We were unsure we could have pizza from their sister place next door and you in fact can. We had kids and they were kind to them. Pizza was fantastic. We had the gluten free pizza (took 25 minutes) and the dough was not the best. The pasta was super Al denti which I enjoy but almost too much. Still yummy. Gluten free pizza can be a disaster and it definitely wasn't just was weird.

Yelp
We came here for dinner and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff made us feel like family. We ordered a variety of dishes to share, and every plate was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. The pasta dishes were standouts -- the creamy mushroom pasta was rich and comforting, the shrimp pasta in a red sauce had the perfect balance of spice and freshness, and the pistachio penne with burrata was both unique and delicious. For entrées, the grilled fish with roasted vegetables and the lamb chops with pistachio crust were cooked perfectly, tender and full of flavor. We also loved starting with the appetizer board -- from bruschetta and garlic bread to calamari and arancini, everything was a hit at the table. What really impressed us was the consistency -- every dish felt carefully made, not just thrown together. The portions were generous without being overwhelming, and the presentation was beautiful. If you're in La Mesa and craving authentic Italian cuisine, Aromi is a must. It's the kind of place you can come for a date night, family dinner, or just to treat yourself to real Italian flavors. We'll definitely be back! Nino was awesome thank you again!

Yelp
What a cute spot hidden away off the freeway. Went for a birthday. My daughter wanted to experience the cheese wheel. She enjoyed it. The staff was all very nice. My only critique was the pasta i had was a little too al dente for my taste - but flavors were fabulous. Would recommend

Yelp
Do you want some true, authentic Italian food?! This odd the spot! One side has pizza and the other side is the restaurant. They just expanded about 4 months ago! This place is huge, inviting, beautiful, and decorated amazingly! The food was absolutely deliziosa! The service was great as well! I cannot wait to go back and try the pizza!

Yelp
Great service, attentive and friendly , they do not rush you at all which is nice. Ambiance was great, very very clean and the decor is lovely. Even the bathroom was exceptionally clean. Most importantly the food was SO great!!! We also felt it was reasonably priced. Our group loved everything we ordered, pasta, arancini, pizza. The pizza in my opinion has taken the spot of best pizza in SD! Also, the table side tiramisu was hands down the best tiramisu we have ever had!! We will definitely return! So excited to have found this gem.

Yelp
My sister and I were in the area and wanted to check out this place on a break from work because the reviews were amazing. It was a very busy night so understandably there were a couple mix ups with our meal. The manager Raymondo more than made up for it. The fettuccine was absolutely out of this world AMAZING!! The espresso martini, and the tiramisu were also equally to die for! We will definitely be coming back! Great job Raymondo

Yelp
For sure a hidden gem! Cute little Italian spot with authentic fresh pasta dishes. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Staff have Italian accents which is super fun. We went for my birthday and I received a complementary piece of cake. the only reason why I didn't give it five stars because: the food is bland, no salt you can only use the pasta that the restaurant choose of the day for the cheese wheel No kids menu, however the waiter recommended what to order for kids Cocktails were not strong, watered down.

Yelp
We had the worst "birthday dinner" experience at Aromi and want to spare others the shock: Asked for a simple cheese tray to pair with our (lukewarm) wine. Server brought an unlabeled appetizer platter--soggy, stale, barely edible, NOT cheese. Never mentioned a price. Bill showed $213 for that mystery tray (even $18 for garlic bread we never ordered). Mains arrived cold, bland, and tasted like microwave meals. Final damage for 8 adults: over $700 --for food we couldn't finish. Zero transparency, inflated charges, and awful quality. If you value your wallet and your taste buds, think twice before booking here. Share to save a friend! #RestaurantFail #HiddenCharges #FoodieBeware

Yelp
Delicious and beautiful! My husband and I had a lovely impromptu date night. The ambiance is beautiful and romantic. The food and wine are refreshingly delicious and high quality. Our night was extra special thanks to our server Brad! Brad's attentiveness and professionalism as soon as we walked through the door really added that extra special touch often missed in outings these days. He really elevated our experience with his patience, humor and perfect recommendations. Thanks for taking the best care of us Brad. See you soon! Oh, and P.S it's been a few days since we were there and my husband is still raving about the crab stuffed ravioli. Can't say I blame him though, it really is something special. The best I've ever had.

Yelp
I've been to Aromi multiple times now, and am glad that La Mesa has an Italian spot as good as this one! It's really cute inside and out, and parking is plentiful in the plaza lot. Service is friendly, and the drinks I've had such as the Bellini cocktail and their Sangiovese wine have all been great. So far, my favorite dishes are: - Arancini (saffron rice balls filled with beef ragu, peas, cheese, and bread crumbs) - Spicy Rigatoni Vodka (half rigatoni pasta with their signature spicy vodka sauce--I highly recommend adding sausage to it) - Table side Tiramisu for dessert! I've tried the Pistacchiosa (spaghetti with pistachio cream sauce and stracciatella) and while unique and delicious, I found it to be pretty heavy, so I highly recommend splitting this dish. I plan to try their Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe with imported cacio next time!

Yelp
Perfection! Best pasta I've had since Italy! Loved the decor and ambience too! Marco was a wonderful host. The montanara, delish! The fried pizza dough, airy and light and the beef tasty! My favorite was the half rigatoni spicy vodka...chefs kiss! Will be back again!

Yelp
Came here to celebrate a birthday for a weekday dinner. We came right when they opened so it was pretty empty for our meal time (no complaints here). As expected our waitress was very attentive with only 2 other tables occupied but she was great with recommendations and checking in on how everything was. It was decorated very cute inside and was very clean. As it was happy hour both our drinks and appetizers were discounted! We ordered an espresso martini and lemon drop for drinks (both very good) and had arancini and truffle fries for appetizers. I would highly recommend the truffle fries! For mains we ordered the special which was a sausage and pappardelle noodles in a cream sauce (made in the tableside cheese wheel) and the rigatoni carbonara. They provided a free birthday dessert which was nice. Both pastas were SO GOOD! The perfect balance of flavors, the noodles were cooked to al dente, the sauce was light and didn't weigh down the noodles. The flavors were well balanced and you can tell the ingredients were fresh. I highly recommend coming for happy hour! I'll definitely be back to try out more items

Yelp
Came back on a Friday night dinner and had a really great experience. The cheese wheel pasta hit the spot for flavor and I got it in the pecorino cheese which was a little saltier. They do it tableside and it's fun to take photos of. The salmon dish my husband got was a huge filet and he said it was cooked perfectly. We saw another table order tiramisu for dessert and that was prepared tableside too with the coffee and ladyfingers and everything so we had to do it. It was really tasty and a big portion for two. I'm glad we came back, this spot is a neighborhood gem. The staff are all very nice.

Yelp
Went for Happy Hour and ended up ordering from both the happy hour and dinner menus. The carbonara was a little on the heavy side. Wine was good. Would definitely come again. Decent parking.

Yelp
Hubby and I checked out this place in September of last year. We sat outside since it was such a nice day, but be aware of the mosquitos! We tried the aromi and the burrata bruschetta. The presentation was nice and the bread pieces were big and tasty. Our drinks came out after. He got an espresso martini and I opted for a virgin mojito. Both drinks were refreshing. I was excited for my cheese wheel pasta! It was pretty good! Hubby wanted to try the gnocchi verde, which was pretty good. We ordered the tiramisu and it was made tableside. Overall, I had a good time here. The restaurant has some cute decor and a private dining area as well!

Yelp
Second time we have been here and it still is one of the best Italian restaurants in San Diego. This time I had the Ragú and it was amazing. We also had the tiramisu because last time they ran out! It was incredible and they make it right in front of you! For the high quality food it is weird that they have a TV with sports on, doesn't match the vibe. I would recommend getting rid of the TV to keep the higher class. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful with the selection. My recommendation could not be understated.

Yelp
So good! We started out with the Cesar salad and it came with real anchovies on it! Love that because the dressing always tastes more fresh. For the entrees we got the cheese wheel pecorino pasta and the spicy vodka rigatoni and both were super super flavorful. I love a good cheese wheel pasta and this one was great because you could definately taste the cheese. It was amazing. We finished with the tiramisu and it also came with a show by our waiter. The cream on this Tiramasu was a 20/10. Everything was great. We ll definately be regulars from now on.
