Disclosure: Visit and review is during the Covid 19 pandemic
I've been working in Portland for the last couple of weeks and I bookmarked this spot, mostly because of its high reviews and proximity to my workplace and hotel. And, honestly, it's tough to find dine-in spots during this pandemic, understandably so. BUT Arrowood is open for take out and dine-in (both outside and inside). They are following strict social distancing precautions, with hand santizers available and masks required.
Mike was the "jack of all trades" - greeter, bartender, server, etc... I later found out he is the owner (at least one of them). I digress, I came just in time for Happy Hour and they offer a $5 cocktail - how could I resist?! It was delicious - a Bordeaux cherry sour, made with bourbon - he said the B word, I was totally down!!! Off the HH menu I ordered the lamb meatballs, cooked medium - the yogurt was a perfect accompaniment for the lamb. Additionally, for my meal, I ordered the filet - which came with smashed pan fried potatoes, seared green beans, blue cheese butter, and a huckleberry demi-glace. I have to be honest, I do not care for blue cheese, but it was a subtle flavor on the steak - just enough to not be overpowering as blue cheese can be. The potatoes were surprisingly sweet, and cooked perfectly. I think one of the most under-represented and often looked over berries are huckleberries - and it added a nice touch of sweetness to the dish. Admittedly I thought my steak was a little overcooked (I did not point it out), but the dish was delicious, none-the-less.
I would happily make this a PDX stop when I'm in the area!
