"Arrowood has taken over the kitchen at Second Profession Brewing, offering a menu featuring items like smoked salmon Benedict, grilled octopus, and green chile burgers. The restaurant emphasizes grilled dishes, including grilled lamb skewers with gremolata, a grilled shoulder tender, and a broccolini small plate. Arrowood's menu is influenced by Southwestern culinary traditions, with items like green chile burgers and kale salads with corn nuts. The brunch menu includes dishes like corn cakes with whipped lemon ricotta and sweet potato latkes with roasted tomatoes, fall pesto, and pickled mushrooms. The restaurant reopened on October 12, redecorating the space and adding a substantial spirit collection. Duggan manages the cocktail menu, while Goman focuses on brewing balanced beers." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Update, August 2024 A lot of things have changed during the pandemic, but a recent visit back to Arrowood showed that there's at least one place in town that is still recognizably the same. The space, the menu, and even the prices all seemed familiar. Service was friendly, informative, and efficient. On the most recent visit, we arrived in time for happy hour - getting the HH burger, which comes without a side dish, and adding the happy hour soup made for a perfect dinner. We did not have time to stick around, but while we were there they began a trivia night competition - it was a perfect addition to the Arrowood atmosphere. - - - - - - - - - - - - It was sad to see BTU (the former place in this spot) go away, but a thrill to find out that Arrowood has taken their place. You can come back to this building and have a lovely beer created on the premises, and find lovely food to go with it. I'm always happy to find exceptional service, and our experience here makes me want to lead off with it - our server never hovered, but was immediately on top of anything that needed attention, and made sure we had a chance to take our time with decisions as happy hour was approaching a close. The other standout of our first visit was the octopus - perfectly tender and beautifully prepared and presented. The menu is big enough to have lots of choices, but small enough to be sure every item is able to be made with care.

An ode to the darkened pubs where you step in from bright busy streets into the welcoming neighborhood spot where the food is good and service even better, where it takes a moment for your eyes to adjust to the dark and when you do, you realize you are home. Arrowood had a great cheeseburger and fries, but first I want to compliment the service. The waiter was most excellent and professional! Man! My iced tea never got past 1/3 empty and he kept an eagle on me as he patrolled his kingdom. He was friendly without being intrusive, attentive without being in my face. The guy was a pro, I hope they pay him well, he deserves it. But then we must speak of the cheeseburger, that edifice of sustenance! That tower of nourishment! I had mine with bacon, because a cheeseburger is not a cheeseburger without bacon and it did not disappoint. It was a perfect jumble of great taste and texture , an exploration of comfort pub food. Exactly as it should be. And the fries too, as they should be… Perfect comfort fries to be had after a day of going to yard sales and finding great stuff. For that my friends, is the magic of life. Going to yard sales and searching for the holy grail until you are so tired you want to drop in your tracks. Bargaining with wonderful people like your life depended on it and coming away with all parties happy. Filing your truck with priceless treasure. Then, when you have squeezed every drop from from this amazing city! You find a wonderful local, non chain restaurant and partake in the food of the community! And isn’t that a wonderful thing!?! Arrowood is exactly that kind of place. The locals know it well, the visitors feel welcomed. The food is solid core comfort just as it should be and the service better than you could expect. I’ll come again!

Google
The fish and asparagus was amazing! The radish is pretty and the avocado sauce is next level. A really tasty house blend I was impressed with. The potatoes underneath the fish wasn't anything to write home about, but everything else was spot on. So well cooked. My friend ordered the fish and chips and ate it up like nobody's business. Really nice outdoor seating area. Matt I believe I servers name was, great service thank you!

Google
I don't want to give a bad review based off a single night, but I can't give 5 stars just based off staffing. The server we had was wonderful and was trying their best to get to everyone but it still took about 45 minutes to get our food. Once we did get it, it was good but not quite worth the cost. Fish and chips is $18 and seemed pretty bland for that cost. The dipping sauce was not very good and the fish was pretty lacking. However, my chicken sandwich was very good and my old fashioned was...alright. I'm going to chalk this one up to a lack in staffing which I know isn't the attending staff's fault and our server was very kind and apologetic for the wait.

Google
This place is great and definitely worth checking out. The art (inside and out) is a reason to go alone. The beer selection, cocktail menu, and the food choices all add up to a great experience. Plus, the service is excellent. We started with the with the octopus and shared the grilled pork tenderloin and the grilled beef shoulder. All three were excellent and we all agreed we'll go back.

Google
This place is our favorite local stomping grounds. Incredible food. Great employees. Super fun atmosphere with booths and cool art. The owner Mike is so wonderful and welcoming, he remembers us every time. They also have an amazing vegan burger, truly amazing. And their fish and chips are no joke. Great quality. Great drinks and cocktails. Highly. HIGHLY. recommend this place.

Google
I like this under rated establishment. But it shouldn't be. This place should be packed because of the quality of food and service we got. And they even show off local artists even change their wall art to showcase their work.

We have come here a handful of times and have enjoyed our experience. The servers are very kind, drink options are infused and Customizable, which is a nice touch, and the food has been delicious every-time.

Yelp
What a groovy little place! Not overly large but nice options for seating plus some very interesting art scattered about the establishment. I dropped in to meet up with some former colleagues just as soon as I arrived to PDX. It's a very short drive from the airport so it was easy peasy. Melissa greeted me promptly and provided helpful, friendly service throughout our visit. They have an amazing array of cocktails and other beverages. We all opted for hot drinks on a cold day. We also shared several appetizers, including the ahi tacos, tofu nachos, a side of fries (yum!) and the crispy cauliflower with ginger soy glaze, which was the resounding favorite. Would definitely hit up this place again!

Yelp
We found the food here to be pretty good. We visited on a Friday around 6pm and were happy to discover that they had happy hour specials. They have indoor and outdoor seating. We sat outside and were seated quickly. Our server was friendly. Overall, it was a nice atmosphere. Even though it's a bar, it's good for families, including those with small children. The food was tasty. The Japanese Nachos were very unique, with bok choy, mushrooms, shishito peppers and tofu. We liked them, and also the ahi tacos, which have two seared rare tuna cubes. The burger was a typical "good burger in a Portland bar" and the brisket was tender with a good smoky flavor. Happy hour price of $6 each for Ahi tacos saves $3 over the standard plate price of $15 for two. $10 cheeseburger saves $7 compared to the standard price. We liked the unique food offerings, coupled with a very relaxed outdoor dinner environment. 4 Stars!

Joe D.

Yelp
Is it closed permanently? Tried to go last Friday but it was completely dark. No note on the door. No online postings. We love this place. What's happening?

susie K.

Yelp
Not sure what I like more about this place - the down to earth people who work there, the delicious food and drink or the location (i can walk there) they have a bunch of beers on tap and a fun cocktail menu. Their food menu is great too - and they have delicious gluten free buns and vegan options. There is indoor and outdoor seating. There are a few big screen tvs. Bathroom in the back and street parking

Cody M.

Yelp
Fantastic food, owner is super kind, I'll definitely come back to try the other menu items. Had to grab a quick bite before an engagement and they definitely didn't disappoint.

Robert R.

Yelp
whatever has been happing at Arrowood recently? Closed often and so I have found another place to go. This was one of my favorite bar restaurants What happened?

Julie S.

Yelp
Wow stopped in for a quick bite on the way out of town and what a gem! Great service! Crispy cauliflower was the bomb. We loved the tofu sammi and beet salad and it hit all the marks! Also great beer and cocktail selection! Would def seek this place out when I'm in town again!

Carrie W.

Yelp
1st time here. Great fried cauliflower and fritters. Yummy beet salad and salmon cesaer. But the best part was asking the server for foil or a bag...but really foil, shaped like a dog. This is what we got!

Betsy G.

Yelp
Was looking for a comfy-cozy spot for some great food and drinks on a mid-afternoon rainy Saturday. Arrowood was perfect! Very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, service was great, and the food was delicious! I think prices were totally in line with today's overhead costs, so no complaints there either.

Maro S.

Yelp
Absolutely solid cocktails and happy hour food -- very accommodating as we were the only ones eating outside on a blustery, drizzly evening. Got the burger, hummus plate, and salad all from HH menu. All were good and a good value! I love that they have outdoor covered seating with heaters -- outdoor options are still important for us when we dine out. It was a little chilly when the wind blew but otherwise comfortable

Kathryn S.

Yelp
Shout out to the kitchen at Arrowwood tonight. The salmon and ahi were cooked perfectly, not at all dry, and the burger was cooked medium-rare as requested. The food disappeared too fast for photos, sorry, not sorry!

Amy B.

Yelp
Haddock fish and chips were excellent. Great beer selection. Highly recommend. Beet salad also delicious. Very fresh. Nothing like a typical bar salad. Very attentive service.

Diana H.

Yelp
We have been wanting to come to Arrowood since the pandemic, and each time we stopped, it had been closed. I had been told they are now open 7 days, so we came on a Monday for Happy Hour and SCORE! The outdoor seating on the side of the restaurant was perfect as we just got a new rescue pup, and this allowed our family to eat as a "pack!" (She's part wolf!) Our server even brought a water bowl and the owner, Mike, fried up some extra salmon skins for thr doggies, that she loved! My cherry lime Margherita was wonderful and did a great job cutting some of the pain from my busted up knee! The jalapeño fritters with jalapeño honey were fluffy and delicious. Just this side of spicy that they left a nice mini-burn. The daughter got the burger of the week, and hubby and I got the happy hour burger for $10 each with a side of fries for $4. The happy hour burgers came with cheese and were loaded with tomato, lettuce and grilled onions and a wonderful burger sauce. The burger and sharing the fries were plenty!! With the drink and 1 fritter, I was full! We Love Arrowood and are glad we will be able to make this one of our go-to eateries! Highly recommend!

Duy N.

Yelp
Met some family here for brunch. Dog and baby friendly. Cauliflower wings were quite tasty and are a popular item. Varieties of eggs Benedict and sandwiches. Great service. We sat outside and it was nice on a slightly breezy day.

Yelp
Alrighty... This was our second visit to Arrowood and it was very pleasant. The decor is nice and simple with wall art (some for sale) and updated tables + chairs. We were promptly greeted by the guy behind the bar - I think he is the owner or manager - Mike D. He was very friendly and brought us menus and waters right away. I was under the impression that they served brunch items on the weekend, but the menu we received did not include those even though online it did. Oh well, we were happy to order lunch! We ordered the fried cauliflower, jalapeno corn fritters and my partner and I split the pork sandwich. For drinks I did a Spanish coffee and my partner had the jalapeno margarita. The S.C. was awesome! Just the right ratios of everything. The marg on the other hand was not a huge hit. Not spicy enough and the cinnamon/sugar rim was odd - tajin would be a better choice. We absolutely LOVED the cauliflower with the spicy fermented sauce. Super tasty! The fritters were good, however there is next to no jalapeno flavor and it is loaded with dill and salt. We were surprised about the dill as it is not mentioned on the menu and I don't think jalapeno and dill go together. The pork sandwich was flavorful and perfect for splitting. Mike even made sure that it was split on two plates which was awesome! All in all everything was really good. I would recommend updating the menu online and changing the fritters to reflect the menu description. Mike cashed us out promptly and gave us a friendly send off - nice guy! We will be back!

Yelp
My friend and I had dinner here last night for his birthday. They had covered outdoor seating and propane heaters at every table. Our server Mike D. was super nice and attentive. The food and drinks were great. We ordered the lamb meatballs to start. They were prepared medium well and had a nice crunchy outside. They had a good amount spice and flavor and the cucumber dill sauce they laid on was a nice accompaniment. My friend ordered the salmon sandwhich with a side of the soup of the day, which was chipotle tomatoe. I had the steak salad. Both entrees were great. My steak was cooked perfectly and served with potatoes, carrots, a mix of greens and balsamic glaze. My friends salmon sandwhich and soup had a lot of flavor and was very filling he said. We both were impressed with the service and food. I definitely will be back and look forward to when the full menu with the other entrees are back on the menu.

Traci H.

Yelp
This place has a nice vibe, good service and great food. I had the pork medallions and polenta with roasted vegetables and my husband had the Ahi sandwich. Both were delicious.

Dachelle M.

Yelp
Amazing food and mocktails. The Ruben has their house made pastrami. Plenty of seating with booths, a bar, and indoor and outdoor tables.

John P.

Yelp
Fun night to stop in and hear some music. I got the basic cheeseburger, and it was great. The "small" side salad was pretty big. The service was prompt and very considerate. Worth a stop in!

Jeanette F.

Yelp
We have been coming to Arrowood for years! The food has always been inventive and delicious. Mike the owner lives in the community and cares about the community and this reflects in the ambiance of the restaurant and quality of the food! Their steaks and crème brûlée are so good!! This is undoubtedly my favorite Restaurant. Thank you Mike and Matt!!

Joe C.

Yelp
I love this spot. The food & drinks are consistently great. The service is always tip-top. And it's super laid-back and never crowded. The owner is so friendly and has been there every time I've been for dine-in or pick-up and he has always made it a point to thank me for coming in. What are you waiting for? fwiw, the Green Chile Cheeseburger is so good, I have a hard time getting anything else! The house salad dressing is out of this world, too.

Jefferson I.

Yelp
Awesome little place, family friendly, and comfortable. Good drinks usually made by an owner/server. Good is great, I had an amazing salad with Ahi, my family had chicken and fish dishes that were all great. Highly recommend this spot if you are stuck at PDX or the surrounding area. Yelp brought me here, and I am glad we picked this spot.

Haley W.

Yelp
Cute neighborhood spot with decent drinks and happy hour. Went on a Monday night so it was super slow, bartender was attentive, plenty of street parking. They have a good variety of cocktails and food options and the happy hour menu ain't half bad. The burger was a good cheeseburger, no frills. The tofu nacho (you get one, not a little plate just one wonton) had great flavor but was expecting more than a bite. I bet on a Friday or Saturday night the experience would be better/more lively so I'd definitely give this place another shot!

Andrea F.

Yelp
Highly recommend! The owner (Mike) is SO KIND... the fries and drinks are delicious....they are super kid friendly. It's still a sexy atmosphere even with the kids there lol I can't recommend this place enough.!!!

Jennifer J.

Yelp
Overpriced. Burger was frozen and dry. Fries thin. Very disappointed based on the reviews.

Alex A.

Yelp
I've had a few decent experiences here over the last few years, but am unwilling to go back in until they handle the grafitti that blights their exterior. I know it's frustrating as hell for them, but It's been there a loooooong time, and really detracts from the neighborhood, and wouldn't take too much to address.

Mike S.

Yelp
Stopped in after flying into Portland. It's very simple, but has that great taproom vibe and some local art that was pretty cool. Food though....that's where it's at. Smoker out back was a good sign. Food was SO tasty and service was so friendly and "real". Great spot to get away from the norm.

Megan C.

Yelp
We came here with friends for a double date night. We absolutely loved this spot and I hope the neighborhood will continue to embrace it more and more. The food was great and the service was perfect! We will definitely be back for dinner and to try the happy hour.

T S.

Yelp
Tried this place out and really happy we stopped in. Service was great and we were all (3 of us) really happy with the food. I didn't grab a drink this time, but I'll be sure to come back and grab one next time

T C.

Yelp
This is based on a single, short visit. I will update this when I visit again. I went in thinking it was the brewery, but was in fact an attached restaurant. They do carry all the brewery's beers though. For my beer, I ordered a dark Mexican style beer. It was prob the best Mexican style beer I've ever had (I prefer dark beers). The bartender (I think he was also the owner) told me that the soup of the day was Hungarian mushroom soup. I had never even heard of it before, but love trying new things, so ordered a small bowl of it and a side of toasted bread (some kind of crusty bread, maybe sourdough idk). OMG it was so good. I made sure to use my bread to soak up every last drop. Now I'm determined to try to make it myself.

John R.

Yelp
Great Brunch spot. No lines! Had the brisket green chili sandwich with a habanero Bloody Mary. Fabulous!

C R.

Yelp
Stopped in for a few drinks before dinner. Lovely ambiance, would be good for a casual date night. Our bartender/server was the only one there, so he was pretty busy, but still very attentive and kind. Their cocktails are pretty good and their infused liquors are a unique offering and delicious! Ordered a vanilla rum sidecar and husband ordered the rosemary margarita. The rims weren't sugared or salted as described on the menu- no big deal. However, our server noticed this and apologized and comped those drinks. Totally unnecessary, but very kind to do so! Also ordered a vanilla bourbon old fashioned which was phenomenal! We ordered an appetizer of the white bean hummus and pesto. It came with delicious toasted, buttery bread. It was soooo good! Glad to discover this business in our neighborhood! We will definitely be back to try more food and drinks. They also have a kids menu which is a nice addition if we want to bring the kids next time. Try this place!

Debbie P.

Yelp
Disclosure: Visit and review is during the Covid 19 pandemic I've been working in Portland for the last couple of weeks and I bookmarked this spot, mostly because of its high reviews and proximity to my workplace and hotel. And, honestly, it's tough to find dine-in spots during this pandemic, understandably so. BUT Arrowood is open for take out and dine-in (both outside and inside). They are following strict social distancing precautions, with hand santizers available and masks required. Mike was the "jack of all trades" - greeter, bartender, server, etc... I later found out he is the owner (at least one of them). I digress, I came just in time for Happy Hour and they offer a $5 cocktail - how could I resist?! It was delicious - a Bordeaux cherry sour, made with bourbon - he said the B word, I was totally down!!! Off the HH menu I ordered the lamb meatballs, cooked medium - the yogurt was a perfect accompaniment for the lamb. Additionally, for my meal, I ordered the filet - which came with smashed pan fried potatoes, seared green beans, blue cheese butter, and a huckleberry demi-glace. I have to be honest, I do not care for blue cheese, but it was a subtle flavor on the steak - just enough to not be overpowering as blue cheese can be. The potatoes were surprisingly sweet, and cooked perfectly. I think one of the most under-represented and often looked over berries are huckleberries - and it added a nice touch of sweetness to the dish. Admittedly I thought my steak was a little overcooked (I did not point it out), but the dish was delicious, none-the-less. I would happily make this a PDX stop when I'm in the area!

Kelly M.

Yelp
Great food, service, and charming outdoor seating for all year long. Brunch is great too and no long lines (yet)

Angry Eyes W.

Yelp
As someone who still needs to be very COVID-cautious, but who also enjoys dining out, I love any place that still offers outdoor seating--especially when it's open year round and temperature controlled. I saw that Arrowood met that criteria, and it's just a few minutes away, so seemed like a great place to meet a friend for Saturday brunch. And it was! My friend got there before me and didn't realize there was outdoor seating along the side, but the gentleman working was very accommodating in our moving outside when I got there. He was very friendly and attentive, checking in on us the exact right amount. I can't say enough how much I enjoyed his service. The restaurant was NOT hopping, which is right up my alley, even pre-COVID. When I first got there, there was only one other party--at noon on a Saturday. Just my kinda brunch joint. I didn't love my dish, but that is because I didn't pay close enough attention to all the ingredients when ordering, and it contained an ingredient I have a hard time with, taste and texture wise. But aside from that part of it, it was well prepared and tasted good. I am looking forward to going back to try other menu items. Another bonus of this place, that I didn't realize until after, is that it is part of the dining rewards program for some airlines. So spending money here earns me miles. Score! I will definitely be back. I loved the atmosphere and amenities, the service was fantastic, and the prices are VERY reasonable! And it's in the neighborhood!

Dan K.

Yelp
We love this neighborhood pub gem. Think inspired gastropub food plus with a lovingly curated craft beer selection, half of which are brewed next door. Try the Nicoise Salad, served with a beautiful piece of seared tuna instead of the usual canned counterpart. The soups are especially creative and delicious. And the burgers and fries won't disappoint. Service is friendly and attentive. I can't quite figure out why this place isn't more crowded, since it's an easy walk from the Rose City Park neighborhood.

Ibeth S.

Yelp
THE best customer service hands down. Server pays close attention to detail, I was telling my boyfriend that the fritters sound good but I wasn't hungry enough to order a plate and he sent out comp fritters. Amazing cocktails, i'm a cocktail girly and the rosemary cosmo was top tier. Wish I lived here so I could be a regular. Great place.

Mari M.

Yelp
We went for lunch late today. Service was very pleasant and the quality of the food and drinks were excellent. I look forward to going back when we can enjoy the outdoor space.

Andrea B.

Yelp
This is such a wonderful addition to the Rose City neighborhood! Great food, drink and wonderful service!

Richard F.

Yelp
Arrowood is located right in our neighborhood which is great because the beers they serve are from the brewery next door -- Second Profession Brewery -- and that means we can stumble home if need be. My wife and I were seated right away outside where social distancing was practiced well and all were required to wear masks except at their tables. The staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. We ordered fritters with goat cheese and corn and a small dab of honey as well as a porter and IPA to start. Main entrees were the green chile burger and reuben sandwich. Both were prepared very well and hit the spot! I'll be back to get the burger myself next time and try some of their wither brews.

Hilary J.

Yelp
We can't believe this was our first time coming to this place! SO GOOD! Everything we ordered was incredible. The jalapeno fritters with honey, the beet salad, the burger special with pineapple and swiss, the creme brulee....all were delicious! And the potato leek soup was one of the smoothest soups I've had in my life. Unbelievable. All the cocktails we ordered were fantastic. We ordered an Iced White Russian Coffee, a Blackberry Kamikaze, a Mexican Toddy, and a Blackberry Burro with tequila (normally a mocktail). Each of them were completely different, but all super tasty. Patrick, our server, was extremely personable and gave us a great first impression of this place. We can't wait to come back here for the live music and comedy nights!

Rose D.

Yelp
We thought we were just going to Second Profession Brewing to have a beer and a rest while shopping in the area, and were pleasantly surprised to find that brewery/pub located in the same place as Arrowood, so we had a snack as well. They have a smaller menu, but the choices on it are quite a nice variety with fresh ingredients. They have some smaller plates, too, so we shared the Smoked Mushroom cheese spread which came with toasted bread. Delicious! Based on how much of the cheese spread they give you (quite a good sized portion, plenty for 4 to share as a small appetizer) they should either give you a little more bread or, my preference, include some fresh raw veggies for dipping like carrot and celery sticks in addition to the bread. Good food and some good beers from Second Profession Brewing to choose from, in addition to other beers, cocktails, etc. The lady that served us was very nice, too,

Jonathan D.

Yelp
This was a tough rating because the service was excellent. Unfortunately, the food was only average. The salmon with avocado salsa Verde was cooked well and tasted good. The impossible burger was ok. The problems were with the cheeseburger, steak sandwich, and Cubano. While none of these were bad, they were not good either. For the cheeseburger, patty to bun ratio is off...even if the bun was delicious. Too many fixings so burger was lost and wast well season or cooked. The patty has no carmelization and no crust. For the Cubano, again the bread was awesome. The meat was portioned well to the bread, however, the proportion of the pickles were too little and the mustard too much. The steak sandwich, supposed marinated and then grilled was nearly flavorless. The sauce helped the dryness of the meat, but couldn't overcome the toughness of cut of meat. I know this sounds bad, but we really enjoyed ourselves and it's a nice date night location, but it seems the food could be hit or miss.

Hey T.

Yelp
Arrowood doesn't disappoint. We needed a place we could talk while brunching and Arrowood is just the place. Great food, Mike is super attentive and friendly, and probably the best bloody Mary I've ever had thanks to those unique garnishes.

Loren C.

Yelp
Stopped by there last night and was really happy with food choices and prices. Got the Lamb skewers, roasted squash salad and broccolinni. Great food!!

Eline L.

Yelp
Yelp, Google and website stated the restaurant was open. Took an Uber to the restaurant, and it was closed and the phone went to voicemail. Was looking forward to their risotto and cocktails. Waste of money to Uber all the way there :(

steph m.

Yelp
Loved our experience at Arrowood. It was our first time, and we were pleasantly surprised with the friendliness of the staff, excellent service, and quality of the food. As someone who is gluten/dairy free, it was not too difficult to find a meal to order - the niscoise salad is amazing, highly recommend! Loved the tap options as well. We will definitely be back and look forward to supporting a great new neighborhood spot!

Melissa P.

Yelp
I so wanted to love this place. Stopped I. Tonight with my son. Maybe because it was Labor Day, maybe they were short staffed, but I was really disappointed. My $21 fish and chips was terrible. The fish was visibly burnt and over cooked. It was difficult to cut. I ended up picking the fish off the burnt breading. Fries cold and overcooked. I left hungry. My son liked his pork sandwich. I ate his pickles and they seemed to not be the freshest. It was pretty disappointing, especially with how expensive it is to eat out.
