What a funny experience I had here... and let me say that the service overall was good, but it was a series of unforunate events that will lead me to never visit again.
We arrived for our 5 PM reservation, their opening time. Immediately greeted with a strange vibe from some staff heading to an outdoor(?) room, I'm talking almost colliding with us with their water jugs but gave nothing but long stares and silence in return. No biggie. Front desk experience was kind of odd too, no welcome but watched us and waited for us to talk first, which is not the atmosphere I'm used to at high end restaurants such as what I thought this place was. Still, no biggie.
Eating time. My partner and I have been craving a good wagyu after eating the best wagyu steak special everrr at Capital Grille in Costa Mesa. We are delighted to see wagyu is offered on their menu. He gets a wagyu ribeye and I get a wagyu filet. Both come out looking the same. I don't think too much about it because I thought I just didn't know enough about the cuts. Patner and I are astonished at how thin these steaks are. Sure we don't have much experience with wagyu, but we couldn't help and compare it to the wagyu we ate at CG which was THICK, whereas this was about the same thickness as a Denny's steak. 1/4" roughly? Even worse, mine was cooked well done when I asked for medium rare. Kindly asked them to remake because it was well done. Server leans in and says, "Is it?" and I also go, "Is it?" ... like it's fully brown. I don't think he was being condescending but I just found it kind of funny that he didn't seem to really know? Idk lol. About three managers come up to apologize which was nice. I was offered a soup or salad while I wait. I choose lobster bisque which they say is on the menu. They come back after a minute or two apologizing again, because lobster bisque is not on the menu. LOL. So she says I can choose a clam chowder. I choose that. Spoiler alert, I get food poisoning from the soup. And I know it's this dish because my partner did not try it while we both shared/ate everything else.
The steak comes back as a filet size this time. It is significantly smaller which throws me and my partner off because of the initial two large steaks. Our waiter comes by and casually explains that he had input it wrong the first time... alrighty then. This time the steak is more on the raw side but at this point I just wanted to leave LOL. The corn was also extremely disappointing. Fresh caramelized corn was what was on the menu, but what we received was giving canned corn with bell peppers. Lacking in flavor and definitely no caramelization. And for $14!
The super thin wagyu ribeye was $96, the filet $69. The flavors were honestly not very impressive either and the food poisoning sealed the deal for me. Will not be returning, but I thank the manager Krystal for being kind and taking my steak off of the bill.
