"The Civic Center outpost of this iconic French bakery is high on our list for two reasons. First is that unlike the original location in the Richmond, there’s rarely ever a line for their phenomenal croissants. And second, they serve day-making baguette sandwiches with ham and butter that are great for an on-the-go lunch in the area. The almond croissant and a chocolate chip cookie are mandatory." - julia chen 1, patrick wong
"Arsicault—now with locations all over the city—clearly knows how to do more than just beloved croissants. What we love most about their chocolate chip cookies is the salty-sweet flavor. The huge pool of slightly bitter chocolate in the center doesn't hurt either. Neither does the fact that this cookie, despite being on the thinner side, still has enough to chew to make your molars work for it. The surprise hits of the flaky sea salt People who always say pastries are “too sweet.” “Oh, this is going to be a good one.” (1 minute later) “I was so right.”" - julia chen 1, patrick wong
"The second outpost of one of the country’s top-tier bakeries is wildly slept-on. No better time to pull through the line-less Civic Center Arsicault than when running right by during the race. It opens at 8 a.m. and has a full coffee menu in addition to Parisian sandwiches and quiche, if something beefier comes to mind." - Paolo Bicchieri
"Yes, there will likely be a line. Yes, it’s worth it. This French bakery in the Richmond serves phenomenal almond, ham and cheese, and chocolate croissants that’ll remind you and your butter-coated fingers that it’s all going to be OK. There’s no seating, but eating while standing on the sidewalk with the rest of the families, tourists, and packs of Lyrca-clad cyclists is just part of the charm." - julia chen 1
"Arsicault needs little introduction. At this point, you, your neighbor, and your neighbor’s cousin from Ohio have all done time waiting in line at the Richmond bakery. The croissants, especially of the almond, chocolate, and ham and cheese variety, are flat-out masterpieces. Caramelized bottoms, warm layers, flaky bits that get all over your shirt—there’s really nothing better. For less of a line and the same wondrous pastries, go to their Civic Center location." - julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez, patrick wong
