As a Cambodian, I was excited to come here to support my fellow Cambodians. I came here with my family. Upon going there, I loved the colors of the staircase and the vibes. On the wall, there was decorations too with items you can purchase I believe. Some items I think include Kampot pepper, something that Cambodia is known for, especially in the Kampot province. As someone who brought home pepper from Kampot itself, I can guarantee the Kampot pepper adds a very nice spice and flavor to the food so if you ever get the chance, I do recommend being able to try the Kampot pepper.
Anyways, moving on to the drinks... my family ordered the Phnom Penh coffee, the durian smoothie, and the iced houjicha latte. The Phnom Penh coffee taste pretty similar to a Vietnamese iced coffee (caphe sua da) -- a strong coffee that has a sweet undertone. As someone who is half Vietnamese and enjoys Vietnamese iced coffee, I found this drink to be delicious and helps to wake me up. It's not bitter but still has a strong coffee taste to it.
Moving on to the durian smoothie. As someone who loves durian, I loved this drink. It has a smooth smoothie texture that taste like durian. I can really taste the durian here and for me, durian tastes sweet and kinda vanilla/custard like? Personally, I love the smell and taste of durian and so if you enjoy durian, I highly recommend this drink. It is pretty rare to find places that serve a durian smoothie here in NYC and also do it right and this place does it just right! Highly recommend.
Lastly, for the iced hojicha latte. I believe it is hand-whisked and as a cafe connoisseur, you would be surprised by the amount of places that don't hand-whisk and the difference in the taste is pretty evident when not:) I loved it a lot! It had a strong hojicha taste that was balanced by the milk. Slightly sweet which really let the flavor of the hojicha shine.
My family also got the small dessert cake shaped in flowers. So pretty! We even got to choose which flower we wanted. Has a chewy texture to it, and very delicious! I loved the shape and the texture and the taste was slightly sweet which I liked. It was a nice combination to go with the drinks.
My family also sat here to relax a bit. We talked with the owners and they were so sweet! They were both Cambodian and were very friendly and created a nice environment to relax in while we sat. Talking to them about Cambodia and our favorite activities to do that allows us to get closer to our heritage was sweet. Sitting down, the decorations on the walls and the table was very fun to look at while we relaxed, especially with the meanings of the hand shape. In Cambodia, I learned a bit about that too while learning about the meaning of dance, and so seeing it on the wall reminded me a lot of Cambodia.
Overall, if you want to grab a delicious drink, the menu looks very delicious overall and the owners would be happy to help find one for you! The space is small but cozy and the decorations are beautiful. If you also just want to learn more about Cambodia or perhaps connect more with the culture, this place is a sweet spot to relax at and learn more about the country. I cannot wait to go back again with either my Cambodian friends or my family:)
