Arterra Restaurant Unveils Major Refresh in Del Mar | Eater San Diego

"After a 20-month remodel and six months operating temporarily out of a ballroom, Arterra Restaurant and Lounge reopened with an all-new look and a fresh menu as part of a broader hotel revamp. Opened in 2002 and described as a 17-year-old institution, the restaurant was founded by James Beard Award–winning chef Bradley Ogden and local chef Carl Schroeder; for the past five years executive chef Evan Cruz — a San Diego native and California Culinary Academy alum with experience at Roy’s La Jolla, Pacifica Del Mar, and the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club — has led the kitchen, while sushi master Andrew Hoh presides over the sushi bar that sits within the restaurant’s circular cocktail bar. A few holdover favorites remain for locals and happy-hour regulars — shishito peppers, empanadas, ribs, and truffle‑parmesan fries — but most of the menu is new: starters such as Parker House rolls, beef tenderloin tartare with roasted bone marrow, and soft-shell crab with coconut curry sauce, and entrees ranging from a 36-ounce aged tomahawk steak to scallops with sea beans, peach, carrot, and yuzu, plus a summer barbecue–inspired bone-in short rib served with corn pudding and warm potato salad. The spot markets itself as luxury dining with a creative, California-inspired menu and signature cocktails." - Candice Woo

This hotel restaurant is great! The receptionist was very attentive took his right to our seat. They came right away and when I mean right away right away and filled our water up. Immediately after the server came over and asked us what we wanted to drink and then we ordered. We got our entrées and then we decided to get some dessert. Very good for a hotel restaurant. Thank you!!

Google
Service was awful. Had to ask to confirm my food order as there was no acknowledgement of choices. Never asked how meal was. I had salmon Benedict and the salmon was the thinnest I have ever seen. My wife's Benedict egg yolks were solid. When she pointed this out to the manager he brought her cold hollandaise to make up for it. Told the server we had an appointment and please bring the check, then had to waive him down to pay it. Not going back.

We try this place during our stay in the hotel. To be honest, it truly exceed my expectations! The sashimi is super fresh and all the main dishes are delicious! Our waiter is also very helpful and nice. Happy new year everybody!

Google
It’s very convenient, just inside the hotel. And food is good. Not very expensive. Wish I had more time to try their sushi

Google
I was here on a work trip and ate while I was here. I ordered the Del Mar Spritz and loved it. It was refreshing and citrusy. I ordered the iceberg wedge salad with a side of grilled chicken (I forgot to take a picture of the chicken). The salad was great but the chicken was lukewarm, it tasted good but it wasn’t hot. Other than that, the service was great and atmosphere was nice too.

Google
Arterra is great I enjoyed each meal from this dining experience. Breakfast 🥞 lunch 🥗 or dinner 🥘 I have to say the service is great. Thank you Ramon and Sean and all the other staff for the hospitality!

Google
Really good food, great happy hour, get the rainbow roll.

Google
Food and services were excellent. The place was very noisy and couldn’t relax to enjoy the dinner.

Yelp
Arterra Restaurant is located inside the Marriott Hotel in Del Mar. Parking inside the parking structure next to the hotel is validated by the restaurant. First time at this restaurant for a biz meeting. Entry through the lobby and the restaurant is easily visible. Both the hotel lobby and the restaurant looked meticulously clean and stylish. There was hardly any other diners, so it was quiet and business meeting perfect. The menu offered a variety of foods which would cater to most dietary preferences. I was in the mood for a late breakfast but the restaurant was not accommodating and would only serve lunch :( The Del Mar Cobb salad appealed to me sans bacon of course. The salad was presented nicely, pre tossed and post tossed every bit of it tasted fresh and delish. Although there is a full bar and lounge area, I passed on anything alcoholic as I wanted to be fully cognitive during my biz meeting. Service was from the waiter was attentive and nice. The swimming pool and jacuzzi was steps away outdoor, with a row of palm trees on sun shiny day was a nice sight. I would consider returning, if I can dine outside poolside :)

Yelp
Andrew made the best sushi. Besides the amazing food at this restaurant that's inside the Marriott the service was on point. I highly recommend coming here if you're visiting or if you're local.

Yelp
This hotel inside the Residents Inn. I'm staying at the Hampton inn adjacent to that property. I decided to stay local tonight and found the place on Yelp and saw people on a deck across from my hotels entrance and wondered what was going on up there. It's a hip fun busy cool pace that's what's up there. I found my way through the hotel and walked into this black marble and modern decor dining room with a circular sushi bar right in the middle. I sat down at the sushi bar and found these guys are remarkable Itamae. I went for the Ring of Fire roll and it blew me away. So good I had to try another. The scrumptious roll was just that SCRUMPTIOUS!!! So glad I found Arterra and enjoyed some classy Sab Diego sushi.

Yelp
Unfortunately Chef Andrew was on vacation the week I stayed on property as I had great memories the year before when I had eaten twice during the week I was there. Ended up ordering 3 rolls, one hand roll with a chaser to the end the night with a pear salad.
google avatar

Persila N.

Yelp
We ate here twice during our stay at the hotel. This is the only restaurant in the hotel and they have a bar attached, serving breakfast lunch and dinner. We got take out kids menu burger here once (the burger was full sized, not sure what was kids about it) and it was great. Our toddler loved it. For breakfast here in the morning I went with a salmon Benedict with breakfast potatoes and it was good. Ordered an oatmeal for my daughter and the bowl was huge. It could easily feed a few people! Service was a little slow but food was decent. Would have liked to try out the sushi bar but maybe another time. Thanks Arterra!

Yelp
Ambience fine, service good, Sushi NOT GOOD. The seaweed paper they use is thick and very "fishy" tasting. I have been eating sushi for 30+ years and this was gross. I won't eat sushi there again.
google avatar

Vicky D.

Yelp
This is a hotel restaurant but nice ambiance and servers are always nice. We stayed at this hotel a few times and eaten breakfast here or gotten a drink. The drinks are good and the breakfast is solid. Nothing crazy good but Standard breakfast, fresh squeezed OJ. They get super busy on weekends and if they have a busy hotel that week... prepare to be patient for your food and service. We once waited 40 minutes for food not including like 15 min just waiting to get our order taken. When we go to SD area it's not for business and leisurely so we had time. If the hotel is not swamped food will be normal service waiting times. We have gotten their egg Benedict and standard eggs and toast. Also had their avocado toast in the past.

Yelp
Tried the Ask Chef Andrew Roll, and surprisingly it was pretty good for sushi in a hotel. Chef Andrew definitely knows what he is doing and you can tell by all the regulars he has as well. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area. I also had the short rib fries from the restaurant and enjoyed that as well. The fries were still nice and crispy. It's a pretty spacious restaurant with plenty of seating. The bar also has plenty of seating. Servers and bar tenders are also very friendly.
google avatar

Tim T.

Yelp
OMG!! I have gone to sushi heaven! This tops every sushi restaurant I have ever been to. And that's saying something. Nothing else is even close. The salmon sashimi was brought directly from heaven.
google avatar

Yelp
Lovely hotel restaurant. Food was delicious. Mindy took good care of us. We would return.
google avatar

Lina P.

Yelp
So, is hotel food any good? It was actually quite good, but also still left me feeling craving more. I had a Philly roll and a Scrumptious roll. I can agree that both were indeed scrumptious. Not like mind blowing, but delicious. Our server was very kind and considerate. The ambiance is chill. I sat at the bar, but could've picked a table. The place was pretty empty looking, but maybe because we were early. For a restaurant inside a hotel, it was quite good. Prices are on the higher side for the amount of food, but I suppose it is okay not to overeat sometimes. If you are staying at the Del Mar Marriott, may as well eat here since you already paid for parking.
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful modern restaurant in the Marriott. Dining area is spacious. A large open feel w/ high ceilings. Great place for drinks or a quick bite. Staff is always friendly. Excellent cocktail bar. Often we come here for cocktails.

Nandini H.

Yelp
Super attentive, high quality service. I travel here for work routinely and Fergie is always smiling and helpful.

Yelp
We love this place! Don't be afraid to come into the hotel and have a nice dinner at Arterra, which is located within the Marriott Hotel. Incredible sushi and equally amazing drinks. The hotel smells like is Issey Miyake perfume when you walk in, very Vegas! Excellent service too. Plenty of parking out front or in their garage.
google avatar

Yelp
Missed happy hour by 5 minutes :/ I should have just left but I ordered a house Chardonnay and an espresso martini and the total came to $50.

Yelp
Arterra is a restaurant located inside the Marriott in Del Mar. I came here for a work function and we had a private dining room just off the bar area. Parking is in the garage and the gate just opened for us both way in and out. We had a friendly and attentive wait staff servicing the private event. The food, while impressive in presentation and quantity, was ok in flavor. The salad was plain and was essentially a mixed green salad with maybe two pieces of artichoke and tomato. The entree was essentially a surf and turf with a piece of steak, 3 shrimp, half a potato filled with piped in mashed potato, some asparagus and carrots. The steak itself was cooked to an ok medium and retained it's juices. The shrimp though was rubbery and definitely overcooked. I also thought the potato was maybe the most interesting because they used the skin shell to pipe in mashed potato and then lightly browned the top. For dessert it was a super decadent dense chocolate mouse and I was only able to take two bites before stopping. The private room felt a bit tight and there was a lot of background noise from the bar close by, even when closing the door. Generally a good place for a work event but I likely wouldn't venture back on my own

Yelp
We ended up staying at the Marriott Del Mar with a few other families for our daughter's soccer tournament. Instead of trying to coordinate dinner elsewhere, we figured a nice dinner at the hotel would be nice... in comes Arterra. First off, their staff is absolutely world class! We wanted to have a dinner in a poolside cabana to allow the kids to swim and the manager, Brian, was super accommodating and walked us through making the reservation. We ended up with more families than expected and they quickly made room for us. For the evening, we were assigned Chris as our server and he was as patient as it gets and extremely attentive. The chips and guacamole were freshly made and super tasty. Their burger was pricey but used high quality meat and soft brioche bun and accompanied by fantastic fries. Our kids ate an extra order of fries, they were so good! The presentation of the butternut squash ravioli was exquisite and had great flavor! We overstayed our welcome and the team was took great care of us, even with splitting the bills between multiple families. We truly enjoyed our experience so much that we returned for breakfast! For breakfast, we had Juan and Yesi as our servers and they were as equally awesome as Chris. No lie, the servers are fantastic! The pancakes were some of the best we've had! Highly recommended! Thanks Brian, Chris, Juan and Yesi for a spectacular experience at Arterra. This will be our go to hotel for tournaments and can't wait to return to Arterra for all meals!!

Yelp
We stayed at the Hotel for a night it felt like home. We dined at the restaurant inside the hotel, Arterra. We had the warmest and most amazing server named Mindy. She was so warm and welcoming. My son loved her. We are at the restaurant three times within our stay. Excellent service, food and energy of the hotel and staff
google avatar

Jenna D.

Yelp
Service was awesome. Shout out to our waiter, Chris! We came on a Friday night when they had live music by Tolan Shaw (which was the reason we came). We were there to celebrate a birthday, and the staff did a great job making him feel special. I loved the Marco Polo sushi roll. Wish they have more mocktail options. I'm surprised this place wasn't busier. Prices are a little premium, but I'd come back again.

Yelp
Your standard hotel restaurant. Stopped by for lunch while staying here and got the salmon with potatoes and fennel slaw. Seated at the bar because they had a big party of 30 people. Serving size was smaller than expected for $22. Overall dish lacked salt - would get something else next time. Food came out in about 10 minutes and restaurant is spacious. They also have outdoor seating near the pool but it gets pretty windy.
google avatar

Yelp
We have been coming here for the last couple of years and never been disappointed. Always quality food and service. Nice quiet atmosphere and layout. Ask for Angle and tell him the Cobb Salad with Salmon sent you.

John M.

Yelp
One of the worst restaurants ever. The wings were pretty good. The tri tip sandwich was horrible. Full of fat and grissel. I got sick after the first half sandwich. And the service was the slowest ever. It was like everyone was in slow motion. Almost funny. I took some left over home, and as I got more sick from the sandwich, I threw away the remainder sandwich and calamari. But the hot wings were good.

Yelp
Located inside the Mariott Hotel: Great service & our water was fantastic. Super friendly with my young daughter and he was very helpful. He was able to answer my questions regarding portion sizes and told us where we could find a microwave to reheat my daughter's leftovers. I ordered a cup of soup and birria tacos and my daughter just order the chicken tenders and fries. Everything came out nice and hot and it is a perfect amount of food for us. The birria tacos were missing a salsa of some sort...just needed an extra kick. Every person working there was friendly & checked in on us. It felt great not having to wait around for food/service and it was a casual place so it was a nice place to stop and decompress especially after a long day of soccer games.

Yelp
Had a great time here my mom and I ordered lavender lemon drops and two burgers our server was super friendly and honestly a perfect server. The food was amazing and drinks were phenomenal highly recommended :)

Yelp
One of the better hotel restaurants (San Diego Marriott Del Mar) with clean and open ambience, and consistently good service. Burger was pretty good and so was the short rib. Sushi wasn't bad, and Cioppino was just ok. Breakfast was a bright spot, the whole family looked forward to it every morning.

Matthew B.

Yelp
The food service and ambiance not only met but exceeded our expectations. Jose, Ken, Mindy & Chris provided world class service during my visit. The chefs sushi tasting menu with sake pairing was exceptional and fairly priced. Can't wait return as all of the items on the menu from the cioppino to the rib eye were on point. Really could not ask for more.

Yelp
Arterra is the in-house restaurant for the Marriott Del Mar in Carmel Valley. I have seen their kitchen serve up samples at various taste events around town so I wanted to stop by with a free appetizer coupon I had discovered recently. It's located in the back of the lobby on the ground floor of the property. The decor was very modern with a wide open design (i.e. no internal dividers). The menu was in a bound booklet containing about 20 pages. Most of it was for their wines, beers and spirits. The dinner menu was across two pages and featured appetizers and small bites on the first and salads, entrees and seafood on the second. I wasn't too hungry so I decided to get a couple of appetizers as part of the coupon redemption. I chose the Pork Ribs ($15) which were glazed with a coca cola and yuzu sauce while topped with thin radish slices. The plate came as seven rib pieces. The meat was tender and fell off the bone, but I was not a fan of the sauce. It was sticky, but the flavor profile was unusual. The second item I selected was the Soft Shell Crab ($16) which was served with a sweet corn relish, summer watermelon herb salad, and a coconut curry sauce. The accompaniments were great, but the crab itself had an over-fried batter. Some parts were even burnt so that was not good. From a food execution standpoint, I would only give two stars for what I ordered and received. The ambiance and the promotional discount were the reasons why I upgraded this to a three-star review.
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
Restaurant was under construction so didn't get the full experience, but it was satisfying nonetheless. So it's in one of the meeting halls so ambiance was definitely sub-par but hey, they gotta do what they gotta do to keep the restaurant open. They did have a TV to watch the NHL Finals! As for the food, the menu looked to still be the full menu so I decided on an app and a entree. I got the shishito peppers (always a sucker for them). The glaze was so tasty. A great combo of sweet and savory. Huge portions for the small and even used some of the sauce for my sandwich, which was the Grilled Chicken Sando. Caramelized onions, pickle on the side, a huge mountain of fries. A bit dry, hence the addition of the shishito pepper glaze but a hefty portion and overall a good sandwich. Being a hotel restaurant, it was perfectly fine. There are no restaurants within a super close walking distance (I was pretty lazy) so it hit the spot and I feel it will hit yours too. Once they renovate the actual restaurant, the ambiance will probably make it more welcoming.

Yelp
This is a Very Nice restaurant with a bar and outdoor patio. I was here for Happy Hour with a group of people I didn't know!! Anyway, we sat out in the patio area. My drink order was taken by a very nice and efficient waiter, plus a busboy gave me a plate, a cloth napkin, and silverware. Heavy silverware at that, no cheap stuff. After all this is Del Mar. My spicy margarita was perfect! Now, I had no intention of eating, and thought I would flee after my drink, but the waiter started bringing out gorgeous plates of sushi (they are known for it), calamari, empanadas, tacos, etc. that people had ordered all on the Happy Hour Menu, at $7.00+. One lady ordered off the main menu a Giant Hamburger. It had bacon, onion rings, lettuce $ tomato, maybe more, It was Huge $21 and it looked really tasty. All the food was beautifully presented. I ordered the calamari and it was outstanding. Oh, they add 18% to your bill! The restaurant inside, although large, was very nice and ultra modern including the bar! Wish we would have sat inside, oh well I digress. If you are in Del Mar near the Marriott I think you should stop in and give this place a try. Wish I had taken photos, but like I said I didn't know these people!

Yelp
For a hotel restaurant this is 5-stars. I wouldn't particularly seek out this restaurant if I wasn't staying here but I am always pleased with the QUALITY of food and drinks and selection/variety. For instance the shrimp tempura bowl is very interesting with shiitake mushrooms (I believe) and the chicken thigh bowl had a nice touch of fresh albeit al-dente asparagus & pea pods. The sushi alone was excellent and the Itamae made me a special cirachi bowl - yum!! Great place for business meetings as well. Like I said, if you're staying here take advantage of this nice airy, fresh restaurant. Staff is unobtrusive and let us have our meeting after lunch. Lots of room -oh...And say "Hi" to the 8-year employee (server) Mark. He was a real treat.
google avatar

Jason W.

Yelp
This is a nice spacious multi function restaurant and sports bar space in the Marriott. I went here for a work happy hour. It was perfect for that. I appreciated the wide variety of food and I also really liked that they have a fresh sushi bar since I love sushi. I can't think of too many places where you can sample everything from hot wings to empanadas to sushi in the same place. And the food was all pretty good as you would expect from a Marriott property.
google avatar

Andrea F.

Yelp
The restaurant is beautiful - great ambiance and decor, and very spacious with indoor seating, a bar, and an outside patio with fire pits. Food and service were mediocre. We had to flag down the waiter several times even though the restaurant was empty, but everyone there was very friendly. Most of the food we ordered was bland or lacked seasoning - the short rib, burgers wings. Out of everything we ordered, Calamari was my favorite. Maybe I should have tried their sushi....
google avatar

Kelly G.

Yelp
Had dinner and breakfast during my stay. Food is always fresh. I had Caesar salad and added fish - delicious. Breakfast had American style breakfast, eggs fluffy, bacon crispy, toast perfect. Not a fan of home style potatoes but that is just my opinion. Service is really good.
google avatar

Chrystal C.

Yelp
Good quality food, clean, open ambiance. We came for breakfast and our server was very busy, but was still pleasant and nice. The manager was clearing plates, since they're short on employees and he was also pleasant. This deserves a solid 3.5 stars, as it's better and fresher than your average hotel restaurant experience. I had the Steele cut Irish oats and organic yogurt parfait and was happy and ready to take on the day!
google avatar

Amanda W.

Yelp
Great place to have a dinner, good food and decent prices. Clean and friendly staff. The salad was amazing and sushi was delicious.
google avatar

Carolyn D.

Yelp
Stick to American choices and you will be happy. There are too many fried options on the menu so it's hard to find anything reasonably healthy. The Cubano sandwich was ginormous and terribly inauthentic. The best thing I tried was the Butternut Quinoa Kale salad. Flavor was very good and it was freshly tossed.
google avatar

Yelp
When your newborn baby falls asleep in the dark, quiet, and perfectly cooled hotel room, you do NOT wake the baby to go out for dinner. Instead, you choose something convenient and eat in the hotel room. What is more convenient than ordering at the hotel restaurant? To be honest, we looked through Yelp reviews and photos. We didn't think much of it and my expectations were pretty low. Hotel restaurants don't usually wow me. We decided to order a little of everything. There were some popular items identified on Yelp that were not on the menu. So I assume that the menu changes from time to time. My items ranked from least favorite to favorite are: -The philly roll was ordinary. Salmon, cream cheese, rice. It was satisfying but don't order this when they have better rolls like the scrumptious roll! -Their chicken karaage was crunchy on the outside, yet juicy and tender on the inside. They use boneless, skinless chicken thighs, so you can't go wrong there. The sauce that accompanies it makes the dish all the more enjoyable. -Holy moly, the sauce on the scrumptious roll was full of umami and addicting. I think in the menu description, it mentioned candied mushroom and that would surely explain this unique, sweet, umami sauce. We thoroughly enjoyed this! -The beef sliders tasted like quality beef, perfectly seasoned and wonderfully cooked. It had a slight char, it was juicy, it was what a burger should be. My husband said these were the best sliders he's ever had and I agree that it ranks highly! -The salmon dish with farro was one of my favorite salmon dishes ever! First of all, the salmon skin was so crispy that it was like a crunchy cracker. How that was achieved along with the most tender and moist salmon is a mystery to me. The farro was creamy and everything complemented well with one another. We would definitely eat here again!

Yelp
Went here with coworkers for my birthday happy hour as a first timer. I must say, from first impression; this place is nice! Outside has a beach like feel with cabanas and all. Very nice views. In fact, I would recommend people come here for the views alone! I came with the intent to get Korean wings but was told they don't have them anymore. So I opted for regular wings. We basically had the whole menu. Pictures to follow. Next time, I think I'll try the ribs because those looked amazing! I didn't drink but they do have drinks on happy hour as well. This would definitely be a great place to come to in the summer to lounge by the pool.
google avatar

Berna S.

Yelp
This is the second time we reserve an outdoor table, show up at the restaurant on time and they seat us inside because there is a last minute banquet at the outdoor patio. This was a birthday dinner that we specifically asked for an outside table. An advanced warning of this unavailability would have been nice, so we don't bother driving here and end up just leaving. They really need to work on their reservations skills. Very disappointing, not coming back.

Yelp
Over 10 years ago, I dined here because one of my friend's sister worked here as the pastry chef and was raving about it, so I wanted to check it out. This restaurant is located inside the Marriott Hotel in Del Mar, right off the freeway. It's weird that they have sushi as well as American type of food on the menu. I remember only having their sushi rolls and was given a nice assortment of desserts at the end of our meal back then, but was never enticed to come back until now. My friend wanted to get dinner before her trip to China, so I suggested this eatery since we needed to head to North County afterwards. I forgot how fancy this place is! It wasn't too busy here and we were seated in the back corner at a very cozy booth adorned with pillows. We decided to share two entrees and got the filet with shrimp and the halibut. While we were waiting, we were given complimentary bread and butter. My friend didn't like it, but I was hungry, so I ate two. Our entrees arrived shortly after and were both beautifully presented. I really liked the flavor of the halibut dressing- it had a nice tangy flavor and there were even a couple of ravioli pieces underneath the foam. My steak and shrimp was pretty good, but not outstanding or anything. Service was excellent! We were checked up on often and had never had to ask for our waters to be refilled. I was even given complimentary dessert, so I chose the french silk bombe. It had a nice chocolate coating inside another layer of chocolate filling. It was a little too sweet for me... If they added a scoop of gelato, it would have been perfect.

Yelp
I'm not usually a fan of hotel restaurants, but the revamp of Arterra in the Marriott Del Mar has been very successful. I had salmon for dinner and is was moist inside with a nice sear on the outside. The menu had many nice choices and the was a sushi chef on duty for dinner. The new design is a modern minimalist look, but all the hard surfaces make it hard to have a conversation.
google avatar

Mary T.

Yelp
Food was good, service not so much. The busboy was more helpful than the waiter- we ended up ordering from him and even having to ask for the check from him since the waiter was so absent. Average sushi, fried cauliflower not really fried but still very flavorful, and the calamari was really good! For the cocktails again pretty average and an underwhelming wine selection. I wanted to like this so much but just average all around not great not bad either!
google avatar

Aurora V.

Yelp
Me and my girlfriends came here for dinner to celebrate a couple birthdays and to come check out the restaurant since it's re-grand opening. Not only were we impressed with the service, but we enjoyed the entire lineup of appetizers, entrees and desserts. Just to name a few of our favorites, they were the truffle fries, duck confit flatbread, the scallops, the shrimp tatake, the Tomahawk Steak, and the Tres Leches dessert! Thank you Chef Evan Cruz and the entire Arterra team for your service and for a delicious fulfilling dinner.

Yelp
I ate here twice, on a Friday night and the following morning, for breakfast. I'll admit I ate here out of laziness though I will also say it was convenient because I was staying at the Marriott, where this restaurant is located; in Carmel Valley or Del Mar. Not sure which, so I listed both. The restaurant is modern, open and offers both a full bar and outdoor, poolside seating/service. On Friday night, my friends and I chose to sit outdoors, but not in the poolside cabanas as I don't like the smell chlorine when I'm eating. Heat lamps are offered if needed or wanted. For breakfast, we all dined indoors. The service on both occasions, was great. I don't remember their names but the service they provided, is what other servers should strive for. Other than feeding me by hand, I don't know what else they could have done more. I enjoyed my dinner, more than the next day's breakfast. The breakfast, if you take a look at my pic, was plain and ordinary - not just in presentation, but in taste. I normally don't like to use condiments as dishes should have a flavor of its own - but in this case, for my breakfast, I lathered my omelet with hot sauce. Dinner, the night before was a different story. Though I would have liked to see the Sushi orders served on individual, separate plates, the portion sizes were nice, the cuts were thick and the fish was fresh. I really enjoyed the desserts especially when one, the baked cookie - was on the house. Overall, I liked the Arterra and I would dine here again if I were in the area or staying at the hotel. Almost forgot to mention - park is valet, or self, in the garage. Don't forget to validate your ticket.

Yelp
Our server was very kind... And we were hungry (due to the time difference, we were starved big at 630) and in a rush. Awesome perfectly balanced Lump Crab Hash!!!! $16 and I Highly recommend: the potatoes had an incredible delicate crunch, the lump crab was awesome and the egg poached just right. Mushrooms and spinach were just right contrast to the other tastes. The kids Nutella stuffed pancakes were flippin amazing! My son wants us to figure out how to recreate this gooey goodness at home. The kids meal is extremely good value (it was pancakes, protein side and drink for $6. This balances the $3.50 cup of coffee.) Oatmeal was good too- steel cut and healthy to start the day off right. We would come back again!

Yelp
Arterra has delicious food.~ I'm updating this review from previously as I've now tried the food. The ribs are finger licking good. The chicken wings here are tasty.. and the fries are delectable. I'm also a fan of the shishito peppers they are flavorful and plentiful with pork belly in the mix and some peppers are more spicier than others it varies. The drinks are still made great, although I'm not a fan of the happy hour well drinks here.. I'd recommend picking your alcohol of choice and or sticking to wine or beer to be safe. On my most recent trip the service was on the slower side, and previously the service was more impressive.. so it's hit or miss. Come to Arterra for food, drinks, and catch some sports at the bar.. a decent happy hour or dining option for people that live or work nearby and those staying at the hotel. :)

Yelp
We had room service from this place for dinner. Most of our food was pretty good, except for the soup. This is what we ordered: Arterra Burger- Which included fries topped with bacon and cheese. The burger had bacon, caramelized onions, and the normal stuff inside. I loved it. It was cooked to perfection, the best medium rare. Very huge and I did not finish my half although we split. Yum! ($18) Carlsbad Mussels- The sauce these mussels were drenched in were so good. I definitely recommend ($12) Scrumptious Roll- One of the best rolls I've had in a long time. Didnt look too crazy or anything, but tasted delicious. It included shrimp tempura, mushrooms, tuna, avocado, and glazed with some type of yummy sauce. ($15) Soup of the day (French Onion)- Was way way way too sweet. The sweetest french onion soup I have ever had in my life. Ate it last since I felt it was fit for dessert ($9) So we were pretty impressed with our food and satisfied. We originally wanted the apple pie for dessert but they said they didnt have any. Bummer. I definitely recommend this place, but skip the french onion soup. Although we ate in our rooms, we have been to the restaurant and I like the feel of it at night. We're having breakfast here in the morning so we will see if my ratings change...

Yelp
Much like the titular character from the classic 1980's movie "Angel", this place is a high school honor student by day and a streetwalking prostitute by night. Well, not exactly. What I mean is that it's a nice restaurant that serves tasty breakfasts in the morning but it's a fun, sophisiticated lounge/restaurant in the evenings! While attending a planning session here, I ate in Arterra for breakfast twice. Although a bit pricey (though not out of line for hotels) the food was good and the service was professional and friendly. I liked the hash browns a lot. At night, the place takes on a different vibe. It's very lounge-y feeling. Drinks are cool although table service is a bit slow (but that was due to large crowds and few servers). The outside is cool with a fire pit and a nice patio area around the pool. The inside is cool too...there is one little alcove that is decorated like the inside of Jeanie's bottle from the classic 60's sitcom "I Dream of Jeanie", where the main character was a genie by day and a streetwalking prostitute by night! Maybe I'm getting that mixed up...in any event, I liked this place and not just because I was staying at the Marriott!
