Boon Or Bane: Restaurant Reservation Deposits

"In March last year, chef-owner Bjorn Shen of Singapore restaurant Artichoke took to social media to say: "6.45pm at a 100-seater restaurant. Based on reservations, we were supposed to be full by now. But this is how it currently looks. 32 last minute cancellations. One-third of our night's revenue gone. And not much likelihood to fill these seats with walk-ins after having told people over the past week that we're fully booked." - Michelin Guide Digital-Hong Kong Macau

10 restaurants to celebrate the festive season in Singapore - SilverKris

"Led by chef-owner and MasterChef Singapore judge Bjorn Shen, this irreverent modern Middle Eastern kitchen serves hearty mezzes and generously portioned sharing dishes well suited for festive family meals. Standout items include a fried chicken dish (AFC) and a theatrical 2.5kg slow-roasted lamb shoulder called the ‘Lambgasm’ (available by 48-hour pre-order), and the venue offers both indoor seating and a lush outdoor dining area ahead of an upcoming relocation." - Dinesh Ajith

Amazing team and service. We sat outdoors and took advantage of the cold weather. One of our guest was a little baby and it was lovely of them to set up a chair and cutlery sets for him. I have had their menu at their other location years and ago and I felt the food was much more mind blowing. Having said that, we ordered plenty from the menu and everything was lovely. The lamb is gamey so if you’re not into strong flavours, skip that. Bread could have been served warm but nevertheless the other dishes made the company great! The new location has some really great vibes and truly was a wonderful dinner with friends.

Must order the roasted cauliflower and broccoli hummus! The fried chicken was really crispy and not oily but nothing spectacular. The red date dessert was the perfect end for the night ! Not too sweet and everything goes well together.

We managed to get the counter seats for lunch without reservation. The lunch menu had only a few choices for main. We had roasted broccoli hummus, Turkish bread, lamb scramble plate and roasted cauliflower. The hummus is flavourful and nutty. Turkish bread is warmly toasted, good crust and soft. The special sauce went well with the roasted cauliflower. Serving was quite big. Interesting lamb scramble plate. An ensemble of well marinated tender lamb patty, creamy avocado, fluffy scramble egg and greens. Would be back to try the dinner menu

The new location is quite nice and the surroundings have a good vibe. The food was well done and while the menu would suggest the flavours are really strong, the dishes are well balanced. The bartender also went the extra mile to do up a Negroni using a torch to create a smoky citrus flavour. Overall very good and we would visit again

Had the lamb shoulder, falafel salad and bbq cuttlefish for mains and cold milk blakava for dessert for 2paxs and it wasnt filling. Enjoyed the lamb shoulder and broth as I personally like my lamb to be gamey so only get this if you are okay with your lamb being gamey! Bbq cuttlefish were not bad but you can totally skip the falafel salad. Tho the cold milk baklava tasted like fruit loops, the walnut taste was on point, this was definitely my fav dish amongst everything. In general, food was meh and totally not value for money. Everything except for the dessert was lacking the oompfh and even tho the food tasted ok on its own if you dont look at the price point, they are definitely not worth and kinda underwhelming as you can easily get options that taste similar at many other places, say maybe even your neighbourhood supper stretch for the lamb shoulder. Thankfully, we were early so we got to enjoy the happy hour for limited selections of alcohol promo which made the meal more enjoyable. But will not go back except for maybe the dessert and happy hour. We made a reservation too so no waiting time. Were given the bar seat by default as we only had 2 paxs even tho place was surprisingly empty during dinner time on a weekend. Felt weird when we learnt that the kitchen staff could hear our entire convo after she replied to one of our internal curious qn about the food nearing the end of our meal. Overrated is the right word to describe this place.

Came for late lunch and managed to get a seat and order before their last order time. Had a lamb plate but was not expecting a lamb patty, was hoping it would be the meat itself. The eggs had a seasoning which I wasn’t fond of. The hummus plate had some spices in it which made it taste quite different. Portions are quite big. Tried their special spice tea like a chai tea, could be hotter but found it nice. Overall quite pricey for what you get.

Great service and food! Chanced upon the restaurant while walking around New Bahru and was surprised by how amazing this place was for brunch. Seated immediately, and servers were friendly too. Food arrived hot and fresh, the lamb burger and shakshuka were very delicious and filling. Will definitely recommend this as a date spot.

Second time at Artichoke. Excellent: fried chicken. Hard to describe, but must try! Crisp, tasty, good portion size. Appetizers with pita bread are good too. Roast cauliflower a bit oily.
