Artist Residence Brighton, Brighton, East Sussex - Explore & Book

"Over the past few years, Artist Residence Brighton has evolved from a quirky Regency guesthouse into the cool, cosmopolitan place to stay. In fact, it mirrors Brighton’s appeals perfectly: creative vintage styling, buzzy vibes, and an iconic seascape to gaze upon. Owners Justin and Charlie scoured markets and worked with local galleries to create the distinctive décor, and it’s really paid off – the hotel's bedrooms are a clever fusion of eclectic, classic and retro, while the spacious apartments next door let you live as the trendy Brightonians do. Rich dark paints, lived-in leather sofas and vintage furniture pay respect to the character and history of the architecture, while exposed walls, stripped floors and graphic signs evoke edgy loft-living. But there’s more to this place than looks. We spent most of our stay enjoying brunches, small plates and cocktails in the restaurant, and chilling out in our room's enormous tub. There really is something to suit every mood, just don’t forget to step outside and enjoy everything else Brighton has to offer, too. Highs Stylish and arty, with a fresh and informal vibe - stand-out rooms have sea views and in-room tubs There's a cool restaurant/bar downstairs that serves a mean cocktail - a great place to start your night out A range of rooms for all types, be it a cosy room for two, trendy apartments or bunk rooms for friends Lovely, friendly and helpful staff who instantly put you at ease Conveniently placed for both the station and the sights Lows Some reports of noise from the street being an issue in the basement and first-floor rooms, though we didn't notice any disturbance during our most recent stay The place fills up at weekends so book ahead The majority of rooms are tiny to compact, and most don't have wardrobes (hooks and hangers are provided instead); book an apartment if you want more space WiFi and data signal was patchy during our last visit" - Nadine Mellor

Artist Residence Brighton (Brighton and Hove, Brighton) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"England’s Artist Residence hotels present an alternative view of what a boutique hotel can be: unpretentious, fun, and not a bit more luxurious than they need to be. Artist Residence Brighton was the first, its rooms decorated by local artists in exchange for lodging, a scheme that lends them an individuality no designer could possibly have planned. So-called Tiny rooms are just that — though they’re stylish, and come with Nespresso machines — while the Bigger Balcony Sea View is exactly what it sounds like. The hotel's hip restaurant, Blakes, serves seasonal dishes from an open grill." - Tablet Hotels

Artist Residence Brighton | Best places to stay in Brighton

"If Brighton was a hotel, it would probably be this quirky, art-themed, boho-chic hotel that sits at the head of Regency Square, looking straight out to sea. Every room is different, from small cubbyhole rooms up in the eaves, to light-filled rooms with clawfooted baths tucked away behind exposed brick walls. The art is a diverse mix that engages rather than overwhelms, with more works dotting the Clubhouse – a buzzy bar and restaurant that’s home to everyone from locals on their laptops to overseas guests. Although the hotel feels young and hip, the welcome is warm for travellers of all ages, and anyone who wants to get under the skin of this extraordinary city. " - Annabelle Thorpe

I was lucky enough to temporarily live in Hove some years ago, and now I treat myself to a return visit once or twice a year, usually to catch the Cinecity film festival or a gig. I’ve tried a number of hotels in the area and this is by far the nicest. I booked a ‘tiny’ room with sea view - it was compact, but I wouldn’t describe it as ‘tiny’, especially given the clever use of space to accommodate fridge, kettle, coffee machine, glassware, and a good-sized bathroom. The bed was so comfortable I didn’t want to get out of it in the morning! All the staff I encountered were lovely. I wished I’d booked a second night, and I definitely will next time.

Amazing place to stay in Brighton. It's quirky, beautifully furnished and everything about it is generous. The staff are welcoming and helpful. Just to note there is an underground car park opposite which is convenient but expensive. Don't let that put you off staying here.

Artist Residence Brighton is conveniently located in view of the sea. Upon entry there is a cozy , rustic vibe. You check in at the bar, and there is an inviting restaurant on site (we didn't eat there during our one-night stay). The room was spacious and comfortable, very nicely appointed with water bottles and tea selections, milk in the fridge. The bathroom was also very nice, with fine products for use and appealing decor. The staff was friendly and welcoming without being overbearing, and let us leave our bags at the hotel until our room was ready. They even took them up for us so when we arrived back they were in our room. We will definitely go back!

I had visited an Artist Residence hotel for drinks and meals, but never stayed in one.|The hotel in Brighton looked great for a short break. I received a warm welcome on arrival, my room was stylish and comfortable, with sea view. The location is handy for exploring the town and seafront on foot.|I enjoyed drinks and breakfasts during my stay, in the artfully furnished bar and dining area. For dinner, there were restaurants offering all types of cuisine within easy reach.|Staff were helpful and friendly, ensuring a pleasant stay.

Artist Residence is a bohemian treat. We arrived on a Friday afternoon in the pouring rain and checked into our room and then holed up for the rest of the day in the lounge area and dinner in the restaurant (superb food!!) whilst storm Amy raged outside. The room was very whimsical on the top floor with hand painted bees on the walls. Nice touches of Tunnocks caramel bars and slippers. We had champagne flutes and wine glasses in our room but an empty mini bar (except fresh milk) which I thought was a bit odd and a missed trick to get people to spend money. The bed was very comfortable and the view from the window was lovely. The bathroom was sweet but completely impractical. Shower over bath with no screen or shower curtain so that even with the bath mat the floor got wet. I suggest removing the bath altogether and just creating a nice wet room (Room 11).|We only had breakfast on one day (we stayed two nights), and it was fine. The price of the sourdough toast was astronomical and we live in London. £5.50 for one and a half slices of toast with butter and spread!! I would expect a bread basket for that price. To add insult to injury it was pre-"buttered" and it was not butter. Not great. Please bring the (actual) butter to the table so I can do it myself.|The staff were all lovely, and the location is perfect. Would stay again, and definitely keen to try other locations.

A welcoming, funky hotel well positioned for everything Brighton has to offer. Our room was decorated in an industrial chic style with bramley products and a roll top bath. Tapas style dinner dishes prepared in the open kitchen were tasty and generous. The bartender made the best pisco sour and clearly loved his job! Add this one to your list of must stays in Brighton.

We booked the ground floor apt. Wow! What a place! Well decided. Well equipped. Even room service as included … breakfast is extra but we decided to use our own time in venturing around. The team was very helpful and provides info to Brighton. Well situated and easily accessible to roam around.

Breakfast (not included) was good, and the people working there were nice. Some interesting artwork on the walls, but lots of hotels have that. There really was nothing artsy/artistic/bohemian or special about this place. We felt it was overpriced, overhyped, and dingy. The bathroom was completely impractical. No AC. Uncomfortable bed. Will not be back.
