Art's Table - Review - Santa Monica - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"We all have that one friend in life. The friend you call when you're happy. The friend you call when you’re sad. The friend you call when you get back from an overseas trip and accidentally shit your pants at work and need someone to bring you underwear. THAT FRIEND. Just as essential as that friend is, it’s even more essential to have that restaurant. A dependable neighborhood spot you can go to for any occasion, know exactly what you’re going to get, and will never be let down. Art’s Table is that restaurant. Unlike many places along Montana, Art’s Table feels truly for the neighborhood. You can easily stroll in after work and have a meal and a glass of wine by yourself on one of the high-tops, or plan an early in the game date where you're completely in control (read: ideal). You could bring your parents or out-of-town friends, because you want to show them there’s more to life than TGIFridays and the 3rd St. Promenade. photo credit: Holly Liss The food at Art’s Table is consistent. Is it the most fancy or mind-blowing food on Montana Ave.? No. But it’s well-priced and reliable. No weird specials or limited menu here. The food mostly resides in the American comfort food zone, from “sloppy” fries (yes, they put sloppy joe sauce on fries) to meatballs to short rib pappardelle. And it's all good. So no matter what you (or your mother’s) mood is, Art’s has you covered. The vibe at this stark, modern spot is certainly casual, but not overly so. Art doesn’t need to see you in board shorts, and neither do we. Throw on a pair of jeans, and you’ll be fine. And while Art's isn't small, it’s not gigantic either. If you’re the kind of person who likes to plan ahead, reservations are a good thing at night. But if you’re fine with outdoor seating, their sidewalk table game is strong, and we're almost always able to snag a few seats quickly. So bring your folks, your kids, that Bumble date, or dear friend who brought you clean underwear. And revel in the fact that when you're at Art’s Table, they always have your back. Food Rundown Brussels Sprout Casserole In a very un-LA fashion, these puppies are smothered in cheese sauce and served in a cast iron skillet. And they're excellent. Salmon Latkes This isn’t something we’d typically order, but we were pleasantly surprised. Art's Garlic Guacamole Toast Look, we get it. Everywhere has "the best avocado toast." This is by far our favorite in LA. Short Rib Parpadelle This is heavy. It's one of those plates that when served you say, "Oh that's so big, I won't eat it all." And then you do, and you're embarrassed. Onion Crisps The onions are really thinly sliced and lightly battered so these aren’t as heavy as one would imagine. 'Tana Cobb You know those times you go to dinner and you’re starving, but you want to act like you don’t actually eat? You order a salad knowing it’s probably not going to satisfy you and you’re secretly crying inside? Not the ‘Tana Cobb. This thing is huge and you'll actually feel fulfilled after. Kale Salad Not as serious of an entree salad situation as the Cobb, but a good starter to share. Millie's Meatballs Just like grandma used to make. These are on the smaller side, but they certainly aren’t lacking in flavor. Grandma D'Alessio's Hash If you are hungover while at brunch, you need to order this. It’s like the most amazing crispy potato hash topped with short rib and a bunch of other delicious crap on it. Chicken Oysters Po'Boy Think of this as tiny chicken fingers shoved into a roll and topped with everything you’re not supposed to eat but love doing so. Booze There isn’t any. Art’s Table is beer and wine only." - Amanda Williamson

All time favorite when in Santa Monica. Service is outstanding. Ivy was friendly and efficient. Food is always exceptional. Love the beet salad, chopped salad, curry chicken and calamari for lunch. Outside seating is comfy and quiet

We came here for dinner. Most of the seating is outside, but we sat inside, which was perfect for us. I ordered the Steak Salad ( $22) which came beautifully presented, but the dressing drenched the salad. The steak was perfectly cooked. I ate all the steak! Next time, I will ask for the dressing on the side. My friend ordered the Turkey Burger ( $20) which was tasty, sloppy and a bit on the smoky flavor. She said she would not order it again. The curly fries were very tasty! We finished with a Lava Cake, beautifully presented, but it was the smallest scoop of ice cream on this planet! Very rich in flavor. Will I order it again, probably not. I will try Art's Table again perhaps for breakfast or lunch, but not for dinner.

🥂 𝐁𝐑𝐔𝐍𝐂𝐇 𝐎’𝐂𝐋𝐎𝐂𝐊⁣ 🍽 What we tried: ⁣⁣ 🍳 Egg White Veggie Frittata⁣ 🦑 Calamari⁣ 🍝 Short Rib Pappardelle Pasta⁣ 🐠 Scottish Salmon ⁣ 🥂 Mimosa ⁣ A perfect spot for brunch. Great food. Great staff and great spot. You can sit outside or inside. Both are great choices. The food is amazing. There’s a vegan option too. My coworker and I had a great time here. Our server was super helpful. We loved the calamari, frittata and Scottish salmon. So yummy. You just gotta try!!

Google
What a great spot! Service was fast and friendly. This kale salad was amazing. Loved the manchego cheese on it. Great touch. The grilled salmon was cooked perfectly - seriously one of the best I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to be back and explore the menu!

Google
A regular lunch spot for me and my friends. Canopied outdoor sidewalk tables plus indoor seating. Good, friendly service, but a bit understaffed. Still, wonderful dishes, especially the lunch salads and sandwiches.

Iris Chen

Google
Went to this place for Sunday brunch, service is good. They clean the table again as they seat us outside, weather was good with sunshine. Price is reasonable, didn't have the add on fees on the bill. Good place to go for food all day with outdoor seating.

Google
Neighborhood spot in Montana with indoor and sidewalk seating. It’s a spot for locals and tourists to come to. It’s your typical Montana Ave/Santa Monica restaurant where the food is decent, but a tad overpriced, service is straightforward and quick, and you come for the aesthetics. It’s a good spot to take a date or to catch up with a friend. The ambiance is dark and moody, and it’s not crowded (on a weeknight) so you can hear each other talking. I got the roasted Niman ranch pork belly which came cut in four pieces and had a cheesy, warm dipping broth that had an undertone of yeastiness. It was warm and the pork was mellow and tender ($18). My friend got the kale salad also $18) and she liked that it’s a sizable portion and the waitress helped her pick a replacement vegetable since she’s dairy free but the squash has butter in it. She ended up going with the baby carrots as an FYI for those with similar dietary restrictions. Dogs are allowed on the sidewalk tables. No parking lot but there’s street parking. They do take credit cards

Google
Plenty of seating inside and outside. Full bar inside. Ordered the steak and eggs and it was the perfect proportion for breakfast. Service was good.

Yelp
Such a good place for happy hour! Came here with the girls for a mid week happy hour and had a lovely time. Our server was lovely and we sat outside which was nice with the sunny day. Their happy hour menu has a nice variety, though i will say that they give smaller portions on the happy hour menu, so you are paying less but getting less food. I don't completely mind this, because then i get a broader sampling of dishes for less. The brussels are a must, they were so delightful i could've eaten the whole dish myself. we also got the calamari to share which was great. the bruschetta was very nice and actually came with more than though it would have. we also split the meatballs and fish tacos. rule of thumb for the happy hour, if you're getting multiple of one thing, it is probably cheaper to just order it from the main menu. instead of getting 3 tacos from the happy hour menu, we got the 3 taco plate from the main menu which was actually cheaper and also came with rice and beans. overall a great experience and i would come back!

Yelp
I ordered Arts benedict, and they barely put any hollandaise sauce on them. I asked for more sauce, and they charged me for it. The potatoes were cold also. They charged me $33 for eggs and coffee. Ridiculous! Will never go there or recommend to any of my clients and friends.
google avatar

Esther C.

Yelp
Sitting outside was nice. There was a bit of a breeze so the heat lamps came in handy. Inside is super small. The short rib paparadelle pasta was tastey. The sweet potato fries were good, the aioli garlic and habenero were just okay. The seared tuna salad on a bed of quinoa and arugula was bland and wouldn't recommend, per my friend. She had inquired about the salmon if it was wild or farm raised but the server and kitchen staff didn't know- she wasn't happy. If you want cocktails, they serve it was sake vs liquor. The staff was nice. Overall, it's okay. Glad we tried. Don't think I'd return.

Yelp
Delightful spot for a Sunday brunch. We were seated outside and enjoyed the weather. Thoroughly enjoyed my vanilla oat milk latte as the syrup tastes handmade. The montana bowl was delicious as the sauce added the magic. The service was efficient.
google avatar

Martina T.

Yelp
Food here is delicious. On the pricier side, being on Montana. The sliders are delicious. They also have HH Monday thru Friday 3-6. Small seating area inside and outdoor seating available as well. Service is not that great and not very attentive.
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
Always consistent and a lovely spot to sit outside on a nice Sunday morning for breakfast. The johnny cakes are wonderful as are the coffees and egg dishes. The kids menu is great and the service terrific!
google avatar

Yelp
OMG!! Everything we had was deliciously good! This was my first time visiting with friends for dinner and this place did not disappoint. Service was great and the ambiance in the building was very nice. The salad I had was plentiful and had enough left over to take home. If you do anything, be SURE to get their Brussels sprouts! You will not regret it!
google avatar

Tim J.

Yelp
Always great service and tasty menu options. When people visit we usually hit up Art's for lunch or dinner.

Yelp
I came here on Memorial Day with a friend at around 1, we got in right away at a table outside with no reservation. The outdoor area is nice, with tables both in the sun and in the shade with heaters. I ended up deciding to get the belly of the beast sandwich with pommes frites. The portion sizes were pretty big if you are thinking of getting multiple items but worked well as a one off. The sandwich itself was good but not excellent, I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce. I liked the sandwich better without it but definitely thought it needed another thing to really finish it off. The prices were good for the area though!
google avatar

Yelp
Cute restaurant serving dishes with surprising flavors. We were looking for some not too heavy bites and shared a few things. We started out with curly fries and calamari, the short rib pappardelle and art's chicken bites. Those chicken bites stole the show for us with the delicious black garlic aioli sauce. Service was good, and the restaurant was cute. Nice place to stop by for a light meal.
google avatar

Tiffany Y.

Yelp
Came here for an early dinner after a book event up the street and ordered the short rib pappardelle based on reviews and it was perfect. There's seating outside but I opted to sit inside. I'll definitely be back
google avatar

Charlie K.

Yelp
Arts table served good food and drinks, a good spot for lunch. The food was very good, I got the short rib press which was delicious. The Bloody Mary (made with soju) was also delicious. Sitting outside runs the risk of sitting in direct sunlight with minimal shade. They also seemed to be understaffed with one server for all tables outside.

Anita H.

Yelp
Always great good and great service. Breakfast hash and a one of my favorites along with the steak salad and chicken bites.

Jeff P.

Yelp
We had a great dinner at Art's last night. The Tony Montana Corn never disappoints as a starter or side. We had a few order the Chicken Curry Bowl (can also be done vegetarian) which was popular. I enjoyed the Seared Tuna Salad. All the food is always consistent and tasty. Great wine and beer list.

Yelp
They were my go-to for HH, but the new manager just fucked that up. A new menu with smaller portions and the same ridiculously high prices. HH menu is a joke and no value at all. Used to Love this place and it's gone to shit...new manager in unfriendly to boot, you just lost a local.

Yelp
I was out visiting one of my daughters in Santa Monica, and she highly recommended this restaurant for her parents to have lunch with her. It was a Sunday afternoon for lunch, beautiful day, and the restaurant had no one sitting inside, and everyone sitting outside which they have a large seating area for outside dining. I was directed by one of the two female waitresses to find a place to sit. The restaurant is dog friendly, and we had three Yorkshire terriers in our party. After sitting down, it took about 15 minutes before we got the attention of our waitress to bring us water and menus. 20 minutes later, I had to get up and request our waitress to take our order. Once our order was placed, our food came out within 15 minutes. Sides that were requested were forgotten like mayonnaise on the side for the burger. That required me to go up and collect it myself from one of the chefs in the kitchen. The food was fabulous! The service was so bad I would never return with the same waitresses. I would've loved to give this restaurant five stars but the service was deplorable. I hope the management sees this review and responds appropriately!

Yelp
Food, service and outdoor cafe are awesome. Dog and kid friendly. Excellent people watching!
google avatar

Sera C.

Yelp
The service was good. Almost 3 or 4 of the staffs were always check our table and they all were so kind. The calamari was good but the portion was smaller than the photo on yelp. The Cuban sandwich was my husband's order. He said it was good specially the white creamy sauce was the key to make the sandwich so unique. (Belly of the beast) Beet salad was excellent. The portion was small you could order salad and sandwich together. Beet salad has arugula, quinoa and grapefruit. Everything was mixed perfect. The outside table was very nice. Spacious and nice neighborhood. I liked the vibe and the people there. I'd come back!!!
google avatar

Kat O.

Yelp
I had an appointment nearby, which ended right around lunch-time so I decided to check it out. The patio/outside area is cute. I had the Chicken Pesto Sandwich on Ciabatta, with a side of pommes frites. The chicken had a nice char to it and the balance of greens to bread to meat was really good. The pommes frites were delicious! They totally hit a spot. Ask for a side of their garlic aioli for dipping your fries in. YUM!
google avatar

Tara B.

Yelp
I wanted to drink a beer and had a really good one, "CitrusPiney IPA" It was good and I feel good! Raymond is a joyful bartender/server who makes everything feel good there! I wanted to have the crispy brussels sprouts but they are fried at the end of preparation and UNFORTUNATELY they use a genetically modified oil, Canola OIL. I'm dedicated to my health and I have set higher standards so I went across the street for a kreation organic Buffalo Cauliflower Wrap. We all need to speak up and ask what kind of oil a restaurant uses because our bodies deserve Nothing but the best!! Restaurants will not change until we all speak up!
google avatar

Lorena T.

Yelp
My friend and I sat outdoors on this chilly, overcast day for our $25 DineLA.com lunch. Great deal! We shared the 3 fish tacos with beans and rice, huge bowl of chopped salad, sweet potato fries and green salad. A free beverage of beer, wine or non-alcoholic drink was included. Everything was fresh and delicious. Portions were large enough where we took food home. Service was friendly and attentive. Dog friendly, street parking. Will be back!

Kim N.

Yelp
This place is a neighborhood gem. They have the best "giant" Greek corn salad! The dressing is most delicious! The chicken pesto sandwich is so tasty. If you go from 4pm to 6pm you can catch their happy hour menu. The calamari , Brussels sprouts, & chicken bites are yummy at $9 each. The staff are super friendly and the bathroom is immaculate.
google avatar

Krys N.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try Art's Table for a while now and was so happy to see that they were participating in DineLA's Restaurant Week. For a $25 lunch, I got fish tacos with cilantro rice and black beans, tiramisu, and a glass of white wine. The tiramisu might have been the best I've ever had with vanilla gelato, caramel sauce, strawberries, and berries - it was so soft that is just melted in your mouth! The fish tacos were pretty sizable and I was able to take a to-go box for later. They do a great job with outdoor seating and spacing with the parklet - it makes you feel like you're in a patio with the plants and setup. Super friendly staff that were very attentive as well. This is my new favorite place on Montana Avenue and I'll be taking out-of-towners here as a local secret!

Lisa E.

Yelp
Great service Food different twist on basic meals... eggs Benedict soooo good. Love the small vibe and location great for some Montana street shopping!!!
google avatar

Karen L.

Yelp
I kind of feel bad writing this review but I can honestly say the service at this place is the worst! We had dinner here tonight, and our server did not care one iota about her job. We started off with a glass of wine which was about a 2 ounce glass. I've never seen such a small glass of wine. Three of us ordered the onion soup we were expecting the soup to come out before our meal, but that was not the case. We waited and waited and finally they served the soup with our meal. We asked to take the main courses back so that we could enjoy our soup and our server had an attitude about that. The soup was OK little watery and not enough cheese at all. The soup was also lukewarm, but we never saw our server again to tell her. Finally, they served the food to us and everything was cold because they took it back and obviously didn't warm it. We finally flagged down our server and told her that everything was cold and she walked away from the table with no response. It was very rude and all of us were disappointed. I had the burger which was actually a pretty good burger except that it was cold. We also had the steak salad, which was OK, the salmon was very dry and the short rib pasta was fair. Needless to say, we will not be returning here.

Les E.

Yelp
I always saw people dining putside under the trees and the little lights. Its super casual but so were we. Best burger with crisp bacon and melted cheddar I've had in a long time. My friend had a salad with grilled chicken and really enjoyed. Other diners were have wine with their meal and they were welcoming of my dog too.

Alex G.

Yelp
Great spot for lunch or dinner. Food is always tasty and they have a nice outside dinning area. Short rib press or seared tuna salad always rock. the curly fries are great too.
google avatar

Doreen M.

Yelp
Came here for brunch! First time. Loved my breakfast burrito, fruit, outdoor seating, and relaxed vibe. Service was good too. They take RSVPs. Would come again if in the area. My friend liked her food/drink too.

M B.

Yelp
I would give them negative stars if available. We were on time for our reservation, waited 25 minutes for a waiter to even acknowledge our existence. We had a small child with us so immediately ordered a children's meal, and they brought us a mac & cheese with pancetta! Asked to remake it three different times before getting the actual children's meal. After almost 2 hours we were getting ready to leave because we had not received any food or water for the adults and no one had come to our table. As we were standing up to leave, some of our food came out. We still had no water! The waitress was extremely rude, telling us they didn't have any glasses and when we asked for a discount on the bill she gave us a 15% discount and said this is as good as it's going to get - that we ate the food, so what was the problem! Then slammed the receipt on the table and walked away huffing and puffing. We asked to see Manager, but she told us, no Manager was on duty and there were no apologies for all the issues we experienced. I have never been to a restaurant on a busy Saturday night where a manager has not been on duty! This was truly the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant! If they are understaffed and making people wait 2 hours for food and water, they should explain what the situation is and give the customer the choice to leave.....or bring appetizers or do something!
google avatar

Shellie A.

Yelp
Excellent food. Great service, nice location. No complaints. I ordered the seared tuna salad. Scrumptious
google avatar

Gary W.

Yelp
What has become of Art's Table...severely disappointing! The restaurant used to be one of our favorite spots on Montana and something has drastically changed. Last two visits (including Mothers Day) were awful. Poor, inattentive service (had to make multiple requests for things like salt, extra plates, refill on coffee, ketchup, etc); much smaller portions - value of the food has decreased tremendously; food bland and poorly prepared and presented; and rude management. Disappointed to see the profound negative changes to Art's and hoping they can turn it around. At this point, we will not be returning.
google avatar

Deborah B.

Yelp
Food - mediocre Service- not great Ambience - 0 Sunday night. The restaurant may have been understaffed but our server was lackluster. It took a while to get a taste of wine, a longer time to get our order. The food was not memorable. We sat inside, and for the the prices charged, it was lacking. Very disappointing.
google avatar

Daisy L.

Yelp
Charming place with very friendly people. We sat outside in the nice patio. Fresh ingredients and tasty delicious food. Great place. We love it!
google avatar

T Ray C.

Yelp
Very welcoming staff and good service. Nice cozy ambiance. Had a great burger and the curly fries were really good.

Yelp
Lovely time on the patio/sidewalk/outdoor seating. Very nice happy hour. Great prices, options and portions I am vegan and there are some vegan options and also some modifications of the non vegan items. Food was delicious Service was wonderful Parking easy on the street. I will be back

Howard N.

Yelp
Eh. Onion soup was luke warm and not tasty. My fish tacos were luke warm, but the black beans were hot. Rice was eh. Meatballs were hot and good. Service was slightly inattentive. It was slow and staff seemed to like each other more than serving patrons.
google avatar

Ving Z.

Yelp
Awful experience when one of the servers was extremely dismissive to the point where we thought about leaving before sitting down. It's basically generic food, had the Cuban and it was so tame, so mid that I'm pretty sure can get a better sandwich at LAX. We waited and waited for our server, fist menus, then drinks, then everything else was such an ordeal. Go somewhere else, somewhere with decent ambience, decent service, and food that's actually authentic...This place wouldn't know how to make a Cuban sandwich if it demanded a refund from the bank of Cuba on credit.

B M.

Yelp
The food here is legitimately gross. Somehow I've ended up eating here on four different occasions (don't ask), each time leaving surprised that I did it yet again. On the last visit, my partner (who was a newcomer) described the food as tasting "evil." Oddly enough, I knew what he was talking about. We laughed for a long time after. Because I am not a masochist, I will not be back.

Sasha B.

Yelp
I want so badly to like arts because it's a convenient neighborhood spot, but the service is so painfully bad. We have given it so many tries and it's just not an enjoyable experience. We were seated outside today and had to walk in to flag someone to take our order and then also had to go inside to find someone to pay our check. We noticed the two tables next to us also had the same experiences. The meatballs are good, and we would come out of convenience if they could just get it together on the service and just be decent.
google avatar

Sabrina H.

Yelp
Service was quick, me and my mom had the chopped salad with chicken. We asked for no bacon and the salad came completely like we asked for! Delicious fresh and the salad was tossed with no too much salad dressing which I appreciate. I will definitely come back !
google avatar

Kurt B.

Yelp
Had what could have been a wonderful salad though the resturant made the one mistake a resturant should never make, and one that's so easy to avoid.....they served the salad with browned veggies, they could have either served fresh veggies or cut the browned parts off.....but no......no passion makes for a poor score when thinking about coming back....and it's such a nice spot. Hope this review assists them in putting some passion into what they do in the kitchen.....

Morgane V.

Yelp
Wonderful dining experience, food was fast and delicious. Staff was personable and the ambiance was great!

Yelp
I have been meaning to write a review for this restaurant...It is about 1.5 years late.. : ) I've been wanting to try out this place since they had outdoor seating and seemed to always have a wait. We can here for bruch and got seated outdoors. I ordered a breakfast burrito and let them know that I do not eat meat and if they were able to substitue. Luckily, they were. Service was fairy slow and I left disappointed. The breakfast burrito was about $20, which is typical Santa Monica prices. But, for what it was breakfast burrito was small. And they forgot to take out the meat and substitute. I ended up just picking out the meat myself. I probably won't be back as there are better options available.
google avatar

Briana V.

Yelp
Lovely place and ambiance, although it is freezing inside. The food is fresh and satisfying. Our server was very nice but extremely inattentive. She didn't check on us after we got our food, and just getting the check was arduous. It wasn't very busy and the table next to us had the same problem getting attention. Nice place but the servers need to put in a bit more work.
google avatar

Tarry K.

Yelp
Delicious beet salad with chicken. Great service. Loved sitting outside. Thank you for a great experience.
google avatar

Ilanka S.

Yelp
I love going to this place, small menu but delicious. You can order large or small plates. Quite place that I have my meetings some times. Totally recommend!
google avatar

Michael J.

Yelp
I have been here before a couple times but this is my first review. Normally, I would give this a four-star for the food and overall rating, but the service has always been exemplary and friendly including providing my dog with her own water bowl at the table. Thats a nice touch and was appreciated . It is a great little spot, not pretentious or trendy in the least like so many other places nearby. Went for Sunday breakfast and the seating was easy. The outdoors is spacious. Menu choices are excellent and we had the Eggs Benedict which was prepared slightly different than the usual, but in a good way! Good coffee, good music and all said, they made us feel at home and comfortable which is a major factor for my dining experience.

Yelp
Came here for Mother's Day. We had a reservation for noon and we're sat inside right away. The restaurant was obviously busy, but we were not even acknowledged until 12:30. When we informed the server he was completely dismissive and failed to even offer an apology. Total bummer about this place. Was very excited to make this another one of our regular spots.

Yelp
I'm basing this on my first time eating there. Seating was nice outside. Tables clean and taken care of. However, the hamburger was not memorable. Meat was overcooked. Even though I ask for it medium rare. The calamari was so greasy I have to use paper towel to try and absorb the grease. The grease is soaked on the breading. Once you get that off the calamari is very tender and good. Salad was good. Service was fair. We had to keep asking for water. I might give it another chance but they need some cooking lessons on these basic meals.
