Asad’s Hot Chicken - Review - University City - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Asad’s Hot Chicken took over the Northeast a while back. And now it’s in University City with the hopes of having the same fame as the original location, or The Palestra. Since they produce some of the best hot chicken in town, we think their sandwich-shaped stadium is coming any day now. Like their other location, they have fresh juice and smoothies, jumbo tenders, and crispy sliders on a brioche bun well worth waiting for. But heading there in the daytime ensures you’ll be in and out in 15 minutes or less." - Candis R. McLean

Google
Late night spicy fried chicken chain. I've been to a different location before so I knew what to expect. Loaded fries, mild this time and those extra pickles. I ordered online then picked up on the way back to the room. Still more food than you can eat at once even though I gave it a good ol college try.

Never again. I purchased a platter & tutti fruity smoothie. Tell me why a nut & bolt came IN my drink. I could've swallowed this or bit it and of course this company would refuse any responsibility. The only reason I didn't bite it was because I thought it was ice and I hate biting ice so I was going to spit it out. Imagine my surprise when I looked in my hand and saw metal parts!!! Also note how much I consumed before I realized what was in my drink. I won't ever be back here again!

Lived up to all the social media hype, the fries may be the best I’ve ever had. Will be back anytime I’m in town.

Visiting Philly, decided to stop in for a snack so we got the loaded fries (mild). Fries were ready in just a few minutes, came out hot and crispy, covered in tasty sauce with lots of crispy chicken. Delicious!

Google

Food was amazing and the space was very chill! Service was amazing as well, only making the amazing sandwich even better

Google
The servers were extremely cold and not friendly. The weird thing was they seemed slightly nicer to other customers than us. The food looks nothing like advertised. It did not taste good. It lacked flavor and the chicken was dry. It was just spicy, there was no flavor. The coleslaw added a weird flavor on the slider, it made it sweet but not in a good way. The fries were all right but could have been better

Yelp
Go with a huge appetite. The food is cooled fresh and the service is fast and satisfying. When they say sides, trust that they mean sides for a family. I got a side of loaded fries and it was a meal plus leftovers. Loaded with all fresh meat! They don't cheat you on portions. Another 3rd shift city favorite amongst the men.

Yelp
There has been a surge in marketing for this place so I needed to try it out. Not sure if it was worth the hype. I waited 30 minutes just to get a chance to order and then had to wait again for the food. I got the chicken which was affordable, ~$10-20 budget is good per person. Problem was the quality of the chicken. Very sodium heavy with too much spicing which made the food distasteful. For the wait and lack of seating experience, I don't think I would come back here.

Yelp
Hey, folks, just gonna share some thoughts on Asad's Hot Chicken. Been around for a bit now in West Philly, and gotta say, those two-piece BIG OLE chicken fingers with fries? Yeah, they're kinda hitting different. I mean, you wouldn't expect much, just some chicken and fries, right? But these chicken fingers? They've got this subtle heat, this crunch that's kinda addictive. And the fries? Simple, but slightly spicy. It gives old bay-ish seasoning, but they just work, you know? Service? It serves. And the vibe at Asad's? It's cool, laid-back. Like, you walk in, and it's like, "Yeah, I could hang here for a bit...just a little. lol (Not the biggest place and there's no chairs or tables. Strictly pick-up.) So, if you're ever in the area and feeling peckish, might as well swing by Asad's Hot Chicken. Give those two-piece chicken fingers with fries a shot. Can't hurt, right? What's your fave hot chicken spot?

Yelp
The food as always is delicious, especially if you love spicy food. I see why they sell milkshakes and smoothies! Because everything is spicy! My son and I stopped here after shopping at BJ's. This location is soo much closer than Cottman Avenue. We ordered our usual -- the Number 1 (for myself) and the Number 3 (for him). Food was on point as usual. Now, this is a brick and mortar building, not the gas station like the original. It's very small inside, so only a few people can wait inside, and on a day like we went -- rainy, people were trying to pack inside. You're basically ordering your food and leaving. There's NO WAY you can sit inside while people order their food|wait. The service leaves a lot to be desired though, because we received our food but had to wait forever for the drinks. They have come up with a better order of service when people order drinks with their meals. Hopefully, they'll catch their footing and become better with time!!

Yelp
Got the #1 with the heat level "hot." I put hot in quotations because the heat was not there at all. It basically tasted like the mild heat flavor and i'm not even close to being a big spice person so that says a lot. If you like actual heat I suggest getting extra hot or scorching hot. I gave this place 4 stars because the chicken was a decent size and really juicy. The fries also had the perfect crunch on the outside but were soft and pillowy on the inside with a nice old bay seasoning. The sauce had a mild smokey chipotle flavor and didn't overpower the food. The vibe inside was a bit awkward and there wasn't any music or anything, just 10 ish people standing in silence and the cashier just awkwardly standing there, some music would def boost the vibe in there. I would come back and try the extra hot flavor.

Yelp
I heard good things about Asad's, so I made it a point to stop by on my recent trip to Philly. Before even getting to the food, my experience was made more hectic by the amount of time it took to get my order prepared. Despite ordering online ahead of time and taking my sweet time getting to the restaurant, I had to wait almost 30 minutes once there for my food. The food itself, however, was really delicious! I ordered the medium heat loaded fries. The chicken was well seasoned, and very moist. I was so pleasantly surprised that there was a bite of chicken for almost every forkful of fries - I usually find myself rationing out my meat or toppings when I buy loaded fries. the sauce on the chicken and fries was delicious!

Yelp

Yelp
Second time ordering (online for pick-up) from this location. Skipped the line both times. Tender Wrap (Hot Honey) - $6.99, A+ Tutti Frutti Smoothie - $7.99, A+

Yelp
Carried hard by an avg sauce. The chicken itself leaves something to be desired. The fries were pretty standard.

Yelp
This place had good and friendly customer service, the chicken sandwich was made perfectly. Crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Now it's a fast food place but not your average fast food. I ordered the medium level heat, the spices and the sauce they put on the chicken were flavorful for a fast food spot. I am glad that they serve halal chicken which I find tastier and cleaner. I'd try this place again.

Yelp
Great food! My go-to meal after a long day! The loaded fries are the best and a must gave whenever you visit!

Yelp
Terrible customer service Security at the door is way too aggressive It's chicken It's not that serious Very off putting with armed security at the door Do not recommend for families or black or brown people

Yelp
The wait was long and exhausting it took at least 30 minutes for a 2 piece tenders and 1 milkshake. The staff were nice though.

Rolo E.

Yelp
The chicken and French fry quality is incredible, seasoned is an understatement and never use old frying oil. I have personally never ran into a line or waited longer than 15 minutes for the food after ordering, maybe there's a lunch rush that I haven't encountered yet. It's a great takeout spot and especially good for late-nights.

Yelp
I've been to the other Asad's location located in North Philly (off of Rosevelt Blvd), and that places blows this one out the water. What this location does well is service and wait time. It's miles better. Staff was kind, quick, and food came out pipping hot. I got my chicken mild (this was a first for me), and it didn't taste like they put any salt in the seasoning. So it had flavor but it felt like I just licked a chicken covered with a Cajun seasoning that forgot its salt... I visited early after they opened their location so hopefully over time they get closer to the other locations in the Philly area.

Michael P.

Yelp
The Cottman and Roosevelt Blvd location makes good food (choose HOT)! But as for their app don't waste your time even after waiting the 20-30 minutes to pick it up I was told at the window they don't prepare your order till you are there? I have a 30 minute lunch meaning I had to wolf down my food quickly and couldn't enjoy it as I should have if they did their best for the customers

Christopher J.

Yelp
Gave me food poisoning. Was excited to go here for the first time, woke up the next morning going to work and then threw up. Went to the urgent care and I was told I have food poisoning
