The 18 Best Restaurants In Dalston

"This family-run Nigerian restaurant has been a favourite with locals for decades. Aso Rock Restaurant has a jazzy neon-lit bar to sit with a cold Guinness, and a simple but warm, foliage-filled dining space, perfect for solo meals or casual group dinners. Get a satchel-sized box with a rice-based meal to takeaway, or linger over a soup-based meal. The latter, which includes the likes of egusi stew and okra stew, is led by their excellent speciality ayamase. Just know that the food can be sneakily pepper-heavy. " - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, daisy meager, sinead cranna

The 15 Best West African Restaurants In London

"An unwavering pillar in Dalston, Aso Rock Restaurant is a family-run Nigerian spot that has served the community for decades. It started out as a small takeout spot and now has a jazzy neon-lit bar to sit with a cold Guinness, and a simple but warm, foliage-filled dining space. While we might not arrange a whole occasion around dinner here, it strikes the right balance for a solo meal or for a group needing a fill before a gig or dance in the area. We recommend getting a satchel-sized box with a rice-based meal or soup-based meal. The latter, which includes the likes of egusi stew and okra stew, is led by their excellent speciality ayamase." - riaz phillips

The Best Nigerian Restaurants In London

"Aso Rock has been a pillar of east London’s Nigerian community for decades. As other spots have come and gone, Aso Rock stands as firm as the monument it’s named after. It’s a testament to the quality of food that has kept seasoned diners happy and their ability to introduce Nigerian food to Dalston’s ever-changing community. We recommend a satchel-sized box with a rice-based or soup-based meal. The latter, which includes the likes of egusi stew and okra stew, is led by their excellent speciality ayamase. Sides like the soft doughnut-esque puff puff are excellent too. Let the hours slip by, with a cold Guinness in hand, in the jazzy, neon-lit bar and warm, foliage-filled dining space." - riaz phillips

DISGUSTING FOOD/ UNPROFESSIONAL SERVICE! STAY AWAY FROM THIS HORRIBLE RESTAURANT! I’ve ordered from this place a few times before didn’t really have an issue but they have often switched the red stew that I ordered for ayamese which I do not like hence the reason I DO NOT order it! This evening i received ayamese instead of the red stew I ordered, undercooked rice, undercooked beans and the puff puff bag was literally breaking from the amount of oil that was leaking from it. I now don’t feel great at all, my stomach is unsettled! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Take your money anywhere else but here

Made a bulk order of jollof rice, meat pie, fried plain, puff puff and chin chin. Kept me constantly updated on when the food would arrive, they also were able to provide me extra rice and meat as they were a little low on the meat pie which went down great! Would definitely order again, probably had the best puff puff I've ever had!

So good! The fish comes in a delicious sauce with a slight kick of spice in it. Every bite is yummy

Aso Rock have been serving up the most delicious offerings for years and they outdid themselves last week when they catered for a community change makers dinner my organisation hosted. The service was outstanding and the very reasonably priced and super tasty food was delivered on time, hot and with a smile. I couldn’t recommend them more!

Every single time I get asked do I want the food hot and answer yes, I still get it cold. I want to support my people but when you’re greeted sometimes with attitude and parting with hard earned money the least I can ask for is my food HOT! Been coming from far for years but I felt compelled to leave this under the circumstance. I guess I will just have to stop visiting if you guys consistently continue to do a disservice. Rant over.

Unfortunately I was terribly disappointed with my bulk order, it was barely edible and such a shame considering I placed a large order: 1. The fried rice had gone off by the time it arrived 2. the jollof rice was salty 3. the red stew was really oily and mostly liver/kidney instead of actual meat 4. unfortunately the efo riro was not great either and smelled/tasted like it was going off 5. Ayamase was also really oily, and there was no quality meat used Overall, it was not enjoyable. It’s my third time placing a big order and I was willing to give the restaurant benefit of the doubt since I live in Hertfordshire and always seeking out Nigerian restaurants, but I doubt I’ll be ordering from here again. 😔

I have been eating here for more than 14 years. The amount of salt is unbelievable. I tried egusi and threw it away due to amount of salt. Today, I tried efo and it is worse. It is either from the stew or the cock cannot test. Unbelievable. How can anyone eat such horrible food. Olu and sisters should check this out. Nice people and always good food but this one is not gonna bring me back. I am not ready to eat and die of hypertension. Now I have lost my money bcos of a stupid cock

The salt in the Jollof i bought yesterday is enough to cook another pot of rice. Just as salty as the lady that served me! The people who work there have not even the thinnest % of customer service. They look as sad as hell, attend to you like you are bugging them, their body language is even worse than their very nasty attitude! To think it was my first time, and I was excited to go try out a nice Nigerian restaurant. It was a ripoff!!! Absolutely regret ever stepping my foot there! Never again!
