The 9 Best Restaurants In Cannes - Cannes - The Infatuation

"If you were to imagine the type of brasserie that might exist off the marina on the French Riviera, we’re pretty sure something like Astoux et Brun would come to mind. Among the many similar tourist-focused raw bars along the waterfront, this busy fish house is the best. The other spots are just imitating this long-running institution, which has been serving shellfish—often shucked on the street—roasted fish, citrusy carpaccio, and other freshly caught crustaceans for nearly three-quarters of a century. Astoux et Brun works for lunch or dinner (they’re open all day), and, if you’re in town for a conference or convention, is the place to be for late-night oysters and a glass of wine." - sophie friedman, michael sinatra

Greetings From Rosé Country | Eater

"On a sunny patio this seafood-focused spot serves an epic seafood tower piled with langoustines, periwinkles, fat salty oysters, clams, and whelks; it’s served with bread and French butter, fries with mayo, and a glass of rosé, making for an archetypal Provençal seaside meal." - Amanda Kludt

You really can’t miss the amazing seafood while in Cannes, and this restaurant is a great choice. We walked in mid-afternoon without a reservation and were seated right away. Although the kitchen was closed between services, it worked out perfectly since we were mainly there for oysters. Our server was accommodating, efficient, and very attentive. The oysters were a generous size and incredibly fresh—slightly briny from the seawater, but perfectly balanced with a squeeze of lemon. The salmon carpaccio was a standout: beautifully seasoned with olive oil, delicious with the bread, and probably the best I’ve ever had. The soup was also very good—milder than my usual preference, but still flavorful and enjoyable. A nice touch was that they split the soup for us since we were sharing. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who loves fresh seafood and wants to enjoy a beautiful view close to the water.

Google
This place is a well-oiled machine. Everything is very quick and efficient. However, the food quality was overly expensive and disappointing. The crab was big but lacked flavor, and the salmon pasta was literally just tossed in cream with smoked salmon put on top; there was no technique involved. Once a staple in Cannes, now I’m not too sure if it’s worth the money and hype.

This is a fantastic restaurant conveniently located near the car park. The seafood is incredibly fresh, and the service was outstanding. Although we didn’t speak much French, the waitress was exceptionally kind and eager to help. We asked for her recommendations, and she gladly shared her personal favourites. We simply followed her suggestions, and everything turned out to be excellent. I ordered both raw and cooked oysters, along with cooked scallops and spaghetti with salmon as main courses. Every dish was beautifully prepared and full of flavour. A wonderful dining experience overall! A higher recommendation from Edinburgh!

Google
What a wonderful dinner, the staff is very friendly and accommodating. The view from the restaurant is steps away from the iconic Cannes sign! We highly recommend the food here, on our last night in Cannes we couldn’t ask for a better experience. Off to get some photos next to the sign!

Google
What a delight! I'll start with a huge thanks to Yoan for his hospitality, great recommendations, and for making sure we had the best time. You cannot go there without trying the oysters, the perfect way to start. We went twice and tried both specials of the day, neither of which disappointed. Tasty, generous, and elegantly served. I’ll also add that it’s definitely the best tarte Tatin I’ve ever had in a restaurant, made just like you would at home: soft, rich, and delicious! Gourmand rather than gourmet, which is rare with desserts nowadays. Thanks again for making our short trip one to remember! We will be back.

🦪✨one of my favourite place in Cannes 😇 Had the most amazing seafood — everything was super fresh and sooo tasty. Honestly, the oysters were next-level 💯 and the crabs? Juicy and perfect! Big love to the friendly staff who made the whole experience even better. Definitely a must-visit if you love seafood ! 🌊🦀

Google
We tried all the different oysters and they were all good and fresh. The little snails they brought at the beginning was a first for us but they were good. Service was excellent, quick. The only thing that was a bother was that they don’t have shade for all their tables, so since it was full we had a table that one of the chairs was right in the sun. They should get more coverage. Overall: it was a good experience.

Google
For seafood lovers seeking authenticity and quality in Cannes, Astoux & Brun is a standout destination. Long-established and widely respected, the restaurant offers a refined yet relaxed atmosphere, with terrace seating that captures the essence of Mediterranean dining - unhurried, sunlit, and rooted in tradition. The crown jewel of the menu is its diverse oyster selection, carefully sourced from renowned producers across France and Ireland. In addition to oysters, the menu includes a small but thoughtful selection of shellfish, such as large clams and mussels, all served with attention to freshness and simplicity. Service is polished yet warm, matching the tone of the venue.

Yelp
It was a really good experience eating here. The service was great and the waiter was willing to adjust items based on dietary restrictions. They have amazing espresso for after a lovely meal as well.

Yelp
This was my second time visiting Cannes France and came across this delightful restaurant offering an array of specialty seafood dishes. The seafood looked amazing and tasted phenomenal. I highly recommend the Mussels and Sea bass. The oysters are delicious as well either cold or grilled (grilled pictured). This is definitely a tourist spot and a local hangout. The restaurant was extremely busy from the time I arrived up until my departure. Although, you'll encounter long lines, the wait time is minimal due to the efficiency of the servers busing tables. The servers are gracious, friendly and very welcoming, which, made my dining experience exceptional. This spot will definitely be my go to upon my return to Cannes.

Yelp
Brisk service, excellent shell fishes. Bistro style. Eat here you'll feel chic. Reasonable but not inexpensive.

Yelp
If you're hitting Cannes on the French Rivera this is a place to stop. But be aware everything in Cannes is expensive, very expensive. Large menu with lots of fresh options direct from the Mediterranean Sea. Sit outside and enjoy watching the people strolling by. Might return after my next raise.

Yelp
This is one of the best restaurants in the entire French Riviera. Plenty of tables inside and al fresco in a covered front patio. The quality of the food is amazing and not more costly than market price for seafood. Everything was fresh and delicious. Even the bread came with a little surprise just to give that extra you don't find everywhere. The service was above and beyond. It's hard to find such a good place in the heart of a touristic area. Great experience from beginning to end.

Yelp
We searched long and hard for a place open in Cannes on a Sunday. Wound up here and was pleased with the seafood. We ordered a half dozen cold oysters, 2 langoustines, and the hot oysters. Langoustines were okay, but the hot oysters were oh my god WOW. Delicious in tarragon cream and cheese. Fresh oysters were huge and delicious as well. A free sampling of small snails were provided as well, which were fun. Glad we found this spot for a taste of the sea.

Yelp
We've had oysters all around the world and these are one of the freshest and most flavorful ones we've ever had. They were fatty, juicy and packed a punch of flavor that made our taste buds tingle long after we were finished. We couldn't get enough of them! Yes, the mussels were masterfully prepared and the shrimp was so fresh, but the real star are the oysters! Doesn't get much better than eating fresh oysters by the beach at Cannes.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious seafood, awesome service, and good ambiance. Bigorneaux - mini snails are something I tried there for the first time. Delicious! The host showed me how to pull them out of the shell. They're so much fun to eat! The oysters are delicious and fresh. Great variety. If you're looking for fresh, delicious food this is the place! I'll definitely will eat here again!

Yelp
Fun and lively brasserie style seafood restaurant. This place has been here since 1953 and they have gotten the local seafood house thing down to an art. It is fun and lively with a warm but gregarious feel to it. I walked by the place on several occasions during my stay in Cannes and it was always packed, even when the other restaurants around it were sparsely populated. This is always a good sign. We went with a group of four and had a terrific and very fun time. The wait staff did a great job of keeping up the banter and making sure the wine was flowing. The menu is brief but chock full of the traditional local seafood options. It is however decidedly light on non-seafood options, so keep that in mind if you are coming with any fishophobes. Cold sea food platter is a must and really delicious. Shrimp, Oysters, Snails, Clams, Langoustine. Fresh, delicious, and a huge platter. For four people we were warned not to order the largest platter but instead to get the medium (which the menu indicates is for 2-3 people). The medium was more than enough. Most of the party ordered mussels (with cream sauce, not the usual white wine broth) which were served in large pots and which were promptly and happily consumed. I opted for the special - scallops with zucchini/mushroom risotto. Also fresh and delicious, this dish was surprisingly light for a risotto. Classic and very delicious. We managed to go through 4 bottles of Chablis which was inexpensive and tasty. Nothing fancy, but delicious and the perfect accompaniment to a restaurant which is long on enjoying the company of your friends, and short on pretension. Highly recommended for an enjoyable evening out.

Yelp
I was traveling through France alone, so didn't get to try the larger platters that are popular. So my review is based on the one dish I had but also my customer service experience. I ordered the scallop/crab risotto. Oh my gosh. BEST RISOTTO DISH I HAVE EVER HAD! Risotto was creamy, the scallops were perrrrfectly cooked with that beautiful brown sear, the bits of crab meat mixed in with the risotto brought in so much flavor, and that butter surrounding the bed of risotto...mannnnn just perfect! I would die to have a dish that great again. Out of all the restaurants I've gone to in France, the service here was the most friendly. I felt very welcomed, checked up on me enough to ensure my meal was enjoyable, and offered some fun conversation. Very sweet gentlemen working here.

Yelp
This food was so confusing and difficult to order. Once we ordered these expensive dishes we didn't know what to make of it. And the prices are so high! I'm still hungry...

Sonia S.

Yelp
Be ready pay as for a 3-5 course meal at a Michelin 1-star restaurant, but it's not. It was still worth it for me as a tourist. Our plan was to try a langouste and other local seafood and this place was just right. Our langouste was so fresh that was brought live to greet us first. Sea snails were surprisingly delicious and fun to eat. They had good selection of local rose wines for pairing. Next time we'll try sea urchins and local oysters!

Axelle D.

Yelp
Tasting of high quality oysters, guaranteed freshness, located in the port of Cannes, excellent homemade dessert

Yelp
My husband and I ate here after a recommendation from the staff at our hotel. We enjoyed a lovely stroll past shops & other restaurants along our way. There are what appear to be a few sections of this restaurant ; we ate at the furtherest one nearest the corner. It was our first night in Cannes and we ate rather early, but it was definitely crowded as we were leaving. The restaurant has very cute outside seating along the main walkway. Seafood was very fresh; You can actually see the guy shucking oysters in the corner. Many tables near us ordered the seafood sampler which looked amazing. We each enjoyed a large piece of Mediterranean sea bass each prepared slightly differently. The waiter suggested a great bottle Of white wine to accompany. Overall, it was a great, casual, first night in Cannes. Would recommend Astoux et Brun if looking you're for casual seafood.

Yelp
Loved our seafood tower and wine selection. Busy and lively, we really enjoyed our fresh seafood while watching people watching.

Yelp
Words are not enough . The oysters are the best in the world . Their shrimps grilled and in white sauce are both excellent . Strawberry tiramisu excellent . Reasonable for Cannes . Great service . No reservations . Just stand in line . Sit outside and enjoy the atmosphere

Yelp
Review for the oysters: Soooo good you need to try a tray of all their offerings! They serve you pretty fast and are very nice.
google avatar

Christie K.

Yelp
I've made some not so great choices dining in Cannes but this was definitely the best and favorite meal from the entire weekend. Yes, it is expensive but I feel that a lot of places in the area are just as expensive but not nearly as good. Also, there are very polarized reviews about this place. Food - I started out with the cold mixed seafood platter which was superb. I had the steamed sea bass for the main and it just melts in your mouth.
google avatar

Mabel s.

Yelp
A 4 or A 5? It is difficult to decide. It is an experience to have seafood platter and fishermen soup in Cannes; with the beautiful weather and a glass of house white. Its simple, straight forward, delicious food.
google avatar

Debbie L.

Yelp
Great seafood place. We ordered rose, fresh green salad, oursins, prawns and half a dozen of the raw oysters special. Everything was incredibly good. The prawns had a ton of flavor and the oysters were pretty large and yummy. Service was also very friendly and attentive.
google avatar

Jason L.

Yelp
I love this place, was in Cannes for 4 days and ate here for 3 meals. Freshest raw seafood I have eaten!
google avatar

Sam G.

Yelp
Like humongous platters of seafood? Like it fresh and shucked minutes before it hits your table? You'll probably like Astoux et Brun. Granted, €80 (for two) is not cheap but that got us 16 oysters, 8 sea snails (the surprise winner!), 6 giant prawns, 8 clams and 4 langoustine PLUS a plate of cockles as a complimentary starter (if you've never needled a cockle out of its tiny shell THATS an experience) Staff are funny, fast and helpful. If you're willing to get your hands dirty (and fishy) and don't mind an inevitable lap full of shell/exoskeletons/etc you'll probably love this place.

Yelp
Greatest dinner we had in our Provenance trip! We walked by this place on New Years Eve and saw a long line. We had reservations elsewhere but was intrigued. Eventually we came next evening hoping for fresh seafood. Food was excellent. Our oysters had no sandiness like some other reviewer complained about (though this may be hit or miss). Service speed was quite decent. Wife and I were extremely happy :) Seafood platter for one (40€) was not enough for two by itself but did allow us to try the crab, salad, and Prawn pasta plus two desserts! Both the tiramisu and lemon (citron) tarte were delicious. Bottle of Foussenq was a very nice light white that complemented the seafood. Must come when in Cannes.

Walter F F.

Yelp
Tourist trap. Beware of thief's , they all over. My wife's bag was stolen on their property and result was Zero. Food ok, service terrible. Prices are very high.
google avatar

Jim W.

Yelp
This place was packed and we had only a 10 minute wait. Seafood was so fresh and delicious! Everything we ordered was outstanding, oysters, Crevette Rose 16/20 (jumbo prawns), Crevette Rose 60/80 (smaller prawns), Langoustine, mussels in creme sauce, and steamed sea bass fillet. Probably one of the best meals we had while traveling in France! Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Cannes!
google avatar

Svetlana A.

Yelp
This is the best seafood restaurant on Cote d'Azur. Currently closed for renovation, and we can't wait to go there again!
google avatar

Christophe D.

Yelp
Plateau de Fruit de Mer at its best. It cannot get ant fresher and tastier. We enjoy Astoux everytime we go to Cannes. Its a a must place to dine for us. The service is typical French so don't expect them to pour your wine... and tables are very close together, but we always end up making friends.
google avatar

Ziguang Z.

Yelp
Nice place with really fresh seafood. Outstanding Service and good english. Recommanded
google avatar

Casey H.

Yelp
Extremely noisy with elbow-to-elbow seating. A somewhat touristy spot. I overheard people speaking Italian, Russian and UK English. I tried oysters, sea urchins and monkfish here. They were all excellent. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Will S.

Yelp
The food was excellent, while the service was a bit scattered. We had three separate servers - but they were very prompt. The moules were tasty. The glass of rose wasn't so great.

Blackjack C.

Yelp
Probably the freshest prawns I've ever eaten in my life. The jumbo prawns, langoustine and shrimp were so sweet that I didn't even both with the lime it came with. The mussels in cream sauce were really good as well, although I did get a few with sand in it. The portion of mussels were ginormous. Amazing experience. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Jesper S.

Yelp
Were really looking forward to their bouillabaisse, but what a disappointment. Only fish and no shellfish and bones all over the place. Totally impossible to eat - but expensive. Completely confused service made the evening a night to forget. Don't go...!!!!

Kristina S.

Yelp
My favourite place in Cannes! Eating and takeaway. I always go there when in town. This is truly the best seafood I have ever had
google avatar

Maurizio A.

Yelp
You are in Cannes and that little voice in your mind is telling you "seafood, seafood!".. what to do?! basically you have 2 choices: astoux et brun or chez astoux! Both places serve the very same things, astoux et brun in a tavern environment, while chez astoux has a classy setting, with white clothes and everything else. If you are like me, you are interested in only one thing: food! that's why you wanted to go to a restaurant isn't it?! therefore my suggestion is to go for chez astoux, cheaper and you can always make some friends! Speaking about the food, first important thing: seafood is served RAW, so if you already have some problems.... well better avoid this kind of places! other than that the quality is simply excellent, as you can expect from a restaurant in one of the most famous mediterranean cities! Don't be shy and order the big plate! you will finish it faster then what you think, and by the way.... the other part of the menu is really not that interesting! I can't really tell you what you will find inside that big metal dish because it really depends by what fisherman brought during the morning: prawns, mussels, oysters... everything the sea gave to humanity that day! In conclusion: Probably my favourite place where to eat in Cannes, and I think one of the absolute excellence of this city, but beware: raw seafood and tavern environment, definitely not suited for a romantic dinner during a honeymoon!
google avatar

V. H.

Yelp
Total tourist trap rip off. I love raw seafood like the next person but they serve you raw unwashed sea creatures (sand, grit and all) as 85% of their menu with almost no prep short of lemon and vinegar. They advertise belon oysters when they aren't even in season. The sea creatures they cook (scampi for example) might have been dead a while before they cook it and so will have a putrid smell and powdery texture. The royal tray seriously can feed 4 people, not 2 as they advertise. Dinner for 2 ppl with wine comes to 140 euro and again, you are eating dirty raw food from the sea. You are better off getting kebab sandwiches for 8 euro down the street.

Yelp
For our 2nd night in Cannes, my colleagues and I took the suggestion of a business partner and ventured to Astoux et Brun for a seafood dinner. The offerings were fresh and plentiful - the menu provided almost too many options plus there are daily specials. Three of our group opted for the prix fixe option (popular here in Cannes) which included three courses. I went with a salad and a dish of spot prawns & fresh root vegetables with seafood bisque. The salad was a huge portion of mesclun greens, which was only OK - the dressing lacked flavor, but the greens were very fresh. There were three very large, fresh & tender prawns which tasted delicious with the veggies & bisque - and lots of crusty French bread for sopping! My colleagues meals selections included first courses of fresh large shrimp & oysters and a salmon tartare, which they all enjoyed. The main course everyone selected was fresh sea bass, which smelled heavenly and everyone said was delicious. We also enjoyed a couple bottles of hearty, red wine from Provence and for dessert, a flaky, not-too-sweet fresh apple tart with salted caramel ice cream. Our server, Dominique was friendly and funny - trying patiently to teach me some French phrases and insisting that I send him a postcard from Seattle. Some reviewers complained of cramped seating, but we found the seating comfortable, the atmosphere friendly, good service and delicious food at a great value under 40€ apiece for the food plus 40€ for the wine.
google avatar

Matty R.

Yelp
Seafood so fresh. Like SO fresh. No muss no fuss to the food, meaning you aren't going to get a lot of varied flavors here. They don't cover up the seafood tastes. When you eat a sea snail, it's pure snail. The oysters tasted like they literally came from the sea 5 mins before we ate them -- so good. It isn't the super cleanest restaurant, so I can't give it 5 stars, but the wait staff is nice, quick when needed. You can expect to wait at prime times.
google avatar

Richard H.

Yelp
Nothing special and very cramped. Ok if you enjoy your neighbor's conversation and his elbows, but otherwise...also quite rushed as they have plenty waiting to get in.
google avatar

Elena S.

Yelp
Very busy restaurant with great quality of seafood, quick and very french staff, nice view on Marina, and wonderful mediteranean atmosphere. I very much recommend oysters here, they are just delicious !

Weiwei W.

Yelp
Absolutely great seafood restaurant! The location is a little bit confusing, since the street sign with the same name actually points to a seafood market, while the restaurant is at the other side of the street. Oyster, shrimps, calms, all very fresh. We love the snails, one larger species is especially interesting texture, chewy and mild. We had one of the best steamed mussels. The sea bass is also pretty good!
google avatar

Surasaya R.

Yelp
It's excellent. The platter is fresh and yum. Nice atmosphere and good food. The sea bass here is really good.

Peter R.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and food but stick to their seafood and preferably the shellfish part.

Louise L.

Yelp
super fast service, super cheap, very french(!) Beautiful restaurant, best location. My absoIute favorite place in Cannes. I had the huitre and it was so delicious and the waiters were very funny and attentive and gave me tabasco as I asked for. My salade verte was actually not that nice, I was hoping for the traditional dressing, but it had just olive oil on it. Kinda boring. I will definitely come back again though.

Candy S.

Yelp
clean authentic and fresh had dinner here with my husband and our teenage kids they loved the experience highly recommended
