Athithi Review - Fairfield County - The Infatuation

"You might not expect to find authentic Indian cuisine from a Michelin-starred chef between an Outback Steakhouse and a Pokeworks in the not-so-cute part of Wilton, but that’s Fairfield County for you. Go to Athithi for lunch on a light “work from home day” and prepare to be blown away. Start off with the tangy-glazed lasooni gobi, which is kind of like buffalo cauliflower’s Indian cousin, and the samosa tasting—we bet you’ll be fighting your dining partners over the last of the gooey jalapeño cheese ones. $14 will get you a generously portioned lunch special to satisfy a craving for old faithfuls like saag paneer or butter chicken, which are some of the best versions we’ve had of these dishes to date. Most dishes on the menu travel well, so this is also a great takeout spot when you’re in the mood for a cozy night in. photo credit: Sam Schwab" - Chloe Zale

A Delightful Indian Dining Experience Stepping into this Indian restaurant was a treat for all the senses. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the impeccable cleanliness and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant had a wonderful energy, bustling yet comfortable, setting the stage for a great meal. The service was exceptionally fast, a welcome surprise for a busy evening. Our servers were not only efficient but also incredibly nice and friendly, making us feel genuinely welcome and well-cared for throughout our visit. Their attentiveness added significantly to the overall positive experience. And the food – simply outstanding! Every component of our meal tasted incredibly fresh, bursting with flavor that was both authentic and wonderfully aromatic. It was clear that high-quality ingredients were used, and the culinary execution was superb. We left feeling completely satisfied, having enjoyed a truly memorable and delicious Indian meal. This spot is a definite must-visit for anyone craving a top-notch Indian dining experience.

Google
Without a doubt , the BEST Indian cuisine and dining experience ever !! WOW! Don't let the fact that it's in a strip mall put you off. This Michelin-star restaurant has the most amazing food and incredible service. The interior is GORGEOUS and we had a lovely meal. (We ate like rajas! Our first time here so we sampled plenty of dishes.) Very tasty cocktails and they do not skimp on the alcohol. Delightful appetizers and our mains were fantastic. They deserve that Michelin star! Service was extraordinary. The servers took excellent care of us and granted our every wish. I can't say enough about what an excellent dining experience we had.

Google
This was our (my partner and I) first time trying Indian cuisine. We decided to come in to try it out and it was by far the best decision we’ve made. If you can handle the heat, I recommend the mushrooms! By far one of my favorite! We will come back for sure!

Google
Had an amazing experiences dining here. Friendly staff. Shout out to Harry, Prince and the entire staff for always welcoming us with the brightest smiles. Love the Veggie Samosa here with their homemade sweet and green sauce THE BEST!

Google
Beautiful Ambiance and some amazing food. Everything ordered was perfectly spiced . Food was very fresh and naan/paratha were delicious. They truly have the best flavors and methi malai mutter (creamy fenugreek with peas) and dal tadka (lentils) was amazing. Star of the order was potato onion paratha. Overall really good Indian food and the staff are excellent

Google
The food is absolutely delicious and comes out fairly quick. I loved the appetizers, mains and the desserts. Especially the fried balls in rose water. Service was great, though one small comment was the frequency of how often a waiter would refill our waters. Every single sip i took someone would run over and refill my cup. It just irked my how often this would happen.

Google
My girlfriend and I came in on a busy Saturday night without a reservation (we had a last minute change of plans), and the friendly staff were able to get us a seat at the bar anyway! Our waiter was so kind, and was happy to provide recommendations. My tandoori lamb chops were fantastic, and my girlfriend loved her black pepper chicken dish. The garlic naan was also delicious! They even overheard me mention it was my girlfriend’s birthday, and they brought out some mango cheesecake for us on the house (which was again, delicious). I absolutely would come back here!

Yelp
Not only is the food delicious - the lamb chops are extra special- But you will be welcomed by lovely hosts and enjoy the lovely ambiance. Go enjoy Athithi as soon as you can.

Yelp
Delicious presentation of all dishes with so many levels of flavors. Good attentive service and certainly look forward to my next visit.

Yelp
We've become regulars here because it's so darn good. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, fantastic food in nice sized portions. Love it! My only concern- the past two times I've ordered the saffron chicken appetizer - it hasn't been as good as it was the first time we ordered it. It was fantastic- now it's just grilled chicken with a sauce.... Everything else was fantastic as usual!

Yelp
Our favorite Indian restaurant in CT. The Athithi team is welcoming, true family style. The food is authentic, with flavors you may have never tried before. We've tried about everything on the menu over the years and can confidently recommend this place as a top Indian restaurant in CT. Try one of the cocktails from the incredibly talented barman who comes from NYC a few nights a week to share his passion!

Yelp
Athithi offers an amazing cultural experience into the authentic, diverse flavors of India. Incredible food and service alike. Their cocktails and food are SO delicious. Notably, their executive chef, Hemant Mathur, is best known as a tandoor master of traditional clay ovens, and the first Indian chef in the U.S. to earn a Michelin star and retain it across two New York City restaurants! For appetizers, I recommend the achari mushrooms - a bit spicy and very flavorful. The samosa tasting was one of my favorites. Three selections: cheese and jalapeño, potatoes and peas, and lamb. I had the entrees of chicken tikka masala and the Athithi mixed grill which were both incredible. The mixed grill is a great way to try a variety. It comes with lamb chop, salmon tika, grilled shrimp and chicken. Served with rice, and I highly suggest ordering a side of the garlic naan to pair with it.

Yelp
This is our third time here, and we can't stop talking about the food and drinks. The quality is out standing. Tonight we finally added dessert and it did not disappoint. You will love it!

Michael M.

Yelp
I usually only leave angry reviews but this place deserves my first 5 star rating. The staff is extremely friendly and the restaurant is very clean. They make you feel at home. This is by far the best Indian restaurant around. For the apps get the Lasooni Kebab and the Konkani crab. For Naann get the fenugreek Paratha. I usually get the chicken tikka masala for dinner which is phenominal. Its not on the menu but they will make it for you. The butter chicken is also amazing. The rice is cooked perfectly and even holds well leftover. Although no matter what you get will be great,, follow my recommendations and you will be super impressed. Enjoy

Yelp
Athithi Indian Cuisine, which was opened by the first Indian Chef to receive a Michelin star Chef Hermant Mathur. The menu features 4 authentic dishes from each of 6 regions across india. What we ordered: -crispy okra salad -radga chaat -prawn balchao -pudhina (mint) paratha -goat biriyani -kerela shrimp moilee -the Gemini -the jade My favorites were the prawn balchao which was a goan style shrimp and the kerala shrimp moilee made with a creamy coconut and tomato sauce. Cowner Prince has been in the business for nearly 2 decades and has a passion for bringing good food to great people. I loved how the menu featured classics, but also new items that I had never heard of. I went on a Tuesday night and there were plenty of patrons (regulars and new customers) and a ton of takeout orders. The interior was warm and inviting too! I hope you check this spot out and follow me for more! IG: @angies_foodie_adventures

Yelp
All I can say is wow! What a nice restaurant! To start off, it's a very welcoming experience, and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. We decided to try 2 lunch specials one chicken korma and one chicken tikka masala. Both came with rice and naan. The tikka masala was so rich and delicious. One of the best versions I've had. The chicken korma was outstanding! The sauce was so creamy and quite memorable! The naan bread was the fluffiest bread I've ever tasted, Just perfect! This restaurant is pretty and the food is spectacular! I can't wait to come back and try something else.

Yelp
Went back to try more food! This time I took pics of the food and drink before I started to devour it! My absolute favorite spot in Wilton.

Yelp
Everything was so flavorful, and the dishes are from all parts of India. We drove for a while to get there and it was worth it. The dining room isn't huge, so I imagine they fill up on weekends. I noticed a lot of people do takeout. Service was great. They have a lot of people working, and the kitchen staff brings the dishes out fresh. The owner made our cocktail as the bartender was out. Very polite and sincere gentleman. Some of these dishes, I'd never tried, like the pistachio chicken (lovely nutty flavor) and lotus root kofta (enjoyed the texture). I'd also never sampled jackfruit biryani, which is a delicacy. For anyone looking for a veg biryani option, you should try it! Desserts were sweet and creamy. The Shahi Tukda was akin to sweetened, crispy French toast. I would drive the same distance to eat here again one day, right off the Merritt Parkway in Wilton. So nice to sample new dishes in a casual setting!

Yelp
I've never seen such a bustling Indian eatery in Connecticut! This one hits the mark in terms of decor, ambiance, and service. We walked in and sat at the bar to avoid the small wait. Our bar keep, Ed, prepared the most masterful drink (we had to keep ordering them) called Botanical Gardens. It's a must try! The food was also tasty and the menu creative, with things I've never seen on other Indian menus. Try the items featuring the lotus, they were great. The lasani gobi was perfectly crispy on the outside, tender on the inside with a deliciously balanced sauce. We will return!

Yelp
Second time trying Athithi, this time for takeout. The food was as good as the first try. I'm a confirmed "mild" based on their spice levels as even this was a little spicy for me. Their sauces are tasty, but a little too watery for my preference. I've got plenty of leftovers, and I'm fairly certain the sauces will taste richer upon reheating.

Bella S.

Yelp
Incredible service and food! I had the butter chicken and it was extremely flavorful.

Yelp
Great ambience, delicious food. This place is go-to spot in the area. Must try if you are looking for great quality indian food.

Faris S.

Yelp
Amazingly fresh and flavorful food. And very hospitable owner and staff. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
I lived in India and this is the best Indian restaurant I have found in Connecticut. The food and service are great. The luncheon special is an excellent deal .

Yelp
We were so excited to dine at Athithi, especially when we heard that they had 2 Michelin star chefs at the helm! The dining room was really nice, and our server was attentive. We enjoyed everything we ate, with the stars for us being the Lasooni kebab and lamb kofta curry meatballs! Everything was so flavorful, and they were really accommodating with giving us our ideal spice levels in each dish. We also were able to try Indian beer for the first time! Definitely a cool spot with something on the menu for everyone!

Yelp
Wow! This was the best Indian I have ever eaten! The food was bright and rich with flavors. It was a true culinary experience. Their speciality cocktails were a work of art. The staff was welcoming and attentive. Athithi is outstanding in every regard.

Garrett G.

Yelp
Service and staff were very friendly. Nice, quaint atmosphere. My Palak Paneer was very bland, and blended so much the texture seemed foamy. My wife enjoyed her Chicken Korma.
google avatar

Steven L.

Yelp
Staff is friendly, quick to attend and helpful in explaining the less familiar dishes. Atmosphere was always pleasant and calm when I've visited. Underutilized but pleasant bar at back, have been served there during busy times.

Yelp
I hope you enjoy this review as much as I enjoyed my meal. From fluffy samosas to superb entrees (@ any desired spice level your heart desires), it's easy to forget you're not in India. As an avid explorer, this place definitely marks an 'X' on my map and as you know how the saying goes, "X marks the..." - well, I think you know the rest... It would also be rude of me not to mention the friendliness of the staff. Do you normally feel overwhelmed? Fear not, they make you feel at home here and will even serve you delicious salty shakes (: I hope you to leave this place and think - wow, I now enjoyed my food as much as this review (:

Yelp
Finally good things are in Connecticut. Atithi is a place to visit and enjoy excellent cuisine and experience great service starting with our host Hari. Hari was generous in his hosting mannerism and ensured that the 'Atithis' were well taken care of. The food was truly a delight. From the drinks to appetizers and the main course, everything was well presented and tasty. Our order consisted of the following items and we went with Hari's recommendation mostly. Beetroot cutlets, Crispy Fried Okra, Kosha Mangsho, Phool Makhana ki Sabzi, Dal Makhani, potato and onion Kulcha and tandoori rotis. We loved the food And finally the ambience, it was well balanced to give an Indian look, appropriately lit and even though the place was small it handled a busy place very well. Overall, another visit is surely in the books. This place deserves 5 stars, but I always feel that there is room for excellence
google avatar

Rebecca E.

Yelp
Incredible food. Try the chicken or veggie biryani, the eggplant, garlic naan...this place is seriously next level.

Rachel W.

Yelp
As soon as I walked in.. it smelled wonderful and stirred my hunger immensely. The decor is clean and cozy. Most importantly- the hospitality is outstanding and the food, SO full of flavor and freshness. I am glad found this place and most Definitely will become one of their loyal customers very soon!!! I am thankful that this little jewel popped up since Indian food is a fading flavor. Please - let's keep this little treasure! I'm glad Athithi is here!

Yelp
the lasonni kebab( garlic flavored chicken) lamb chops and vegetables ordered , quite ambience and service are really friendly and very welcoming. it's treat it as its name like "the guest "

Yelp
Terrific experience! Staff was attentive and helpful. Food was the best Indian I have had in the area. Good bar, and selection of cocktails and drinks. Modern and traditional fare. Will go again.

Yelp
This is a newer restaurant which I would've never guessed because they definitely know what they are doing. The staff was extremely helpful. The waitress took the time to go over and explain the items on the menu. She was very friendly and passionate about her culture. I appreciated that they were willing to make the food as mild or as spicy as I wanted. For a drink I started off with a mango lassi which if you've never had them they are similar to a smoothie, it was very good. The food was excellent. We tried the samosa sampler which had lamb and peas, potato and peas and jalapeño and cheese. All of them were delicious with great flavor. We also tried the achari mushroom and lasooni kebab as appetizers. Both also very good. I always have to get the garlic naan it was warm and fluffy can't pass that up! Whenever I go to an Indian restaurant I always get the chicken tikka masala but this time I decided to try something different. We tried the pistachio chicken which I would say is unique to this place because I don't believe I have seen it at other Indian restaurants. The chicken was so tender, it appears that they tend to use darker meat. The sauce had a good flavor. I truly enjoyed all of the food and I highly recommend trying this place out if you're in the area. I would definitely come back to try more of their items!
google avatar

Yelp
The absolute best Indian food in the area, with incredible service, and a very solid menu. I went a few times during my stay in the area, and the experience was very consistent and on par each time. Very affordable and fair servings, plus the decor of the restaurant is really pleasant. An additional bonus: really good playlist of background music, which is at the perfect volume. It's inside a strip mall, so there's endless amounts of parking. Definitely worth the visit if you happen to be in the area.

Yelp
My family and I ordered take-out and it was all packaged perfectly and it was beyond delicious! Although, next time we'll eat in because the restaurant has such a beautiful ambiance and such a friendly staff.

Jv M.

Yelp
Great food. Run by a very nice family. Place is clean, pretty and always busy. The waitresses have been very helpful when I order.

Yelp
This place is money. Staff is amazing and the food is superb!!! Place was full on a Friday night but they got me in as a single and had a great experience!
google avatar

Nixo A.

Yelp
Most important part, the food. The freshness of the ingredients makes the whole difference. No spongy shrimps or dry lamb, your food is either crisp or tender, as it should. Just take a minute to ask the chef about his process, and you will immediately understand why the experience is different from most places. I am already excited to go back and taste the next entree.
google avatar

Andie S.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Lovely cocktails. Some of the best Indian food I've ever tried.
google avatar

Russ C.

Yelp
Food is like made in India by family. So good. Great new place in Wilton! You will love it
google avatar

Rasmi N.

Yelp
The quality and quantity used to be good. But this restaurant is no other than any other Indian restaurant. For LASUNI Kabab they charge $26 but they server just four pieces (less than 20 grams each pieces). The only excuse they give "the place has higher rent", which is unacceptable. I DONOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYONE. You pay 5* hotel price but the quality and quantity never meet your expectation. And at the a you will end up paying $100-$150 easily WITHOUT GETTING SATISFIED.
google avatar

Ilona K.

Yelp
Best Indian food I've had in years - maybe ever! The service at Athithi was l wonderful. The garlic naan was incredible! Paneer makhni, saag paneer, lamb vindaloo, mushroom appetizer, and mango lassi were all delicious! Everything was packed with flavor. The texture on the lamb was unreal - very tender. To compare, I think Bonani and Chef Prasad are terrible - completely bland. We will definitely be back to Athithi. I hope they extend their hours, since they're current closed from 2:30-4:30pm.
google avatar

Veronika V.

Yelp
Just walking in, and the aroma lets you know this is no ordinary fast food, Americanized Indian spot! The flavors are familiar, but also nuanced and unique. Even the cocktail I had was delicious and creative (a variety of a Margarita). The staff is friendly, warm and attentive. The Biryani is awesome. We will definitely be back. Obviously the location in a strip mall could be better - but who cares when you find such a gem.

Matt G.

Yelp
First off the food was great. We were a group up of 6 and ordered a lot of food. The papadam on the table was a great start and then we moved to apps and main courses to share. This is legit Indian food. I believe the chef is a Michelin rated chef and it shows. A tiny bit pricey but definitely not over priced. A real stand out was the bar tender. A real craftsman ( I think his name was Ed- apologies if not). Ordered an old fashioned and he curated a great drink with hand crushed spices. Decor is a bit plain and subdued. Not a negative just don't go here for a ruckus night out. The service is excellent and very attentive. Eat here - the food and service are great.

Yelp
When we heard from friends that a new and noteworthy Indian restaurant named Athithi with a Michelin-star (actually two) chef as legendary as Hemat Manthur at the helm had opened in nearby Wilton, we were excited to give it a go. It has been nearly a 13-year quest to find a new Indian favorite since our very beloved favorite, Bengal Tiger in White Plains was destroyed in a fire. We have tried several Indian restaurants in the area including the regional favorite and "Best of the Gold Coast" perennial winner but nothing ever came close. That was until now. And it was worth the wait! The phrase "athithi devo bahva" roughly translates to "the guest is God." And if food quality, presentation, and service are any indication of their dedication to that credo, I would say the team at Athithi are devout believers! We were greeted graciously and immediately served crisp delicious papadum and two little vessels of chutney. We started our dinner with icy cold mango lassi which were hand's down the best we have ever had anywhere. We then enjoyed a lovely appetizer called Lasooni Kebab which was tender morsels of dark meat chicken seasoned to perfection. For dinner, we ordered two mild entrees - Pistachio Chicken and Lamb Korma. Both were excellent. Again, what stood out for us was the freshness of the ingredients and the masterful play of herbs, spices, and sauce mastery which is a hallmark of Indian cuisine. We also ordered garlic naan and it was oven fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. And then there was the rice. Whereas most Indian restaurants will serve traditional basmati alongside a main course, the rice Athithi used was perhaps the finest quality basmati we have ever had and it had been prepared to absolute perfection. Something so basic yet so perfectly prepared spoke volumes to us. No detail was too small to get perfectly right. We cannot wait to go back and try more of Hemant Manthur's tondoor artistry including the acclaimed lamb chops that the couple next to us thoroughly enjoyed filling this lamb-lover with major FOMO! Dinner for two with dessert and tip came to just over $100.

Remy D.

Yelp
We've been to Athithi a few times my wife and I, and I have to say it is the best Indian restaurant we've been to. The food is innovative and the wait staff is attentive. We will definitely return to Athithi, and I urge everyone to go there for dinner.

Mina P.

Yelp
This is a small busy place with amazing food. Just beware that if u decide to eat there, when it is cold, every time someone opens the door, everyone feels the cold draft. Regarding the restaurant, great service, amazing food, but a little pricy menu
google avatar

Alexandra R.

Yelp
Brand new Indian restaurant in ct that recently opened up. Food and drinks are are really good, authentic Indian dishes and wonderful service.

Jay R.

Yelp
Good food and service! I like the Kosha Mangsho...but everything is good here. Ambiance is great too

Adam P.

Yelp
This has to be the best Indian food in Connecticut, and honestly, one of the best in the NYC/NYC-adjacent area. We've been here a handful of times now, and each time the quality and consistency of the meal is off the charts. All the dishes we've had have been winners, including the Tikka Masala, Lamb Rogan Josh, Lamb Madras, and of course, some of the most perfect, delectable samosas we've ever had. The naan is fantastic as well--fresh, piping hot, and so delicious paired with the curries. Service is off-the-charts friendly, and makes it a pleasure to come back. The ambiance of the restaurant is super pleasant, too. Overall, highly recommend this place. It's some of the best Indian I've had, comparable and on par with Angel in Jackson Heights.

Yelp
Wonderful food! fantastic service and great ambience. Do not miss out on this 5 star rating experience. I have gone many times and have never been disappointed.

Amelie H.

Yelp
Finally, yippee! Finally an excellent local indian restaurant! The food is delicious, authentic... no cream-loaded, sugar-full pseudo-indian food here! Service is great too, eager to please and discreet. The setting is lovely as well; from the inside, one would not know this restaurant is located in a strip mall. I've gone back thrice in 10 days :)
google avatar

Yelp
What a wonderful addition to CT. The food is off the charts good. I moved here a year ago and have been having a hard time finding truly good, well seasoned, freah food. Athithi made my night tonight, everything was absolutely delicious.
google avatar

Stina B.

Yelp
Was pleasantly surprised to find a really good Indian restaurant in Fairfield. The food was fresh and you can tell the love that goes into the food. For example the naan bread they told us would take a bit to make, and it was so worth it, the freshest naan bread I've had. We had the biriyani, paneer and naan and honestly I still talk about it.
