Michel Trama

"Michel Trama and Puymirol have a long history. This former champion diver and student of the decorative arts in Montparnasse owes his true calling to love… for his wife Maryse. She is the one who introduced him to fine dining. After a string of odd jobs, he settled down and opened a bistro on rue Mouffetard in Paris, with a copy of Michel Guérard's "Cuisine Gourmande" to refer to. In 1979 he set up shop in this splendid 13C country house in Puymirol, in Lot-et-Garonne: you can sit under the medieval vaults or on the lovely terrace, in the old cloister... It is time to indulge in a cuisine that incorporates both tradition and invention in an unchanging menu that makes several references to this establishment's heyday." - Michelin Inspector

Our lunch at the restaurant gastronomique was one of the best culinary experiences I have ever had. Not only was each dish inventive and impeccably presented, but the tastes were deeply satisfying. This restaurant may have a long tradition, but the joy of creation evident in everything we ate was as youthful and surprising one could wish from a chef.||Add to this, the beauty of the hotel and the warmth of the staff...a truly memorable experience.

We celebrated our wedding anniversary a couple of days ago at this hotel and its fantastic restaurant. We were welcomed by Michel Trama and looked after by his superb team. Michel himself was fun and involved. All the staff were charming, friendly, helpful and efficient. The meal was sensational. We had the gourmet menu and each course was a delight of pairings and subtle flavours. Fresh, beautifully cooked and presented, it was a wonderful evening for our anniversary. Certainly worth a visit.|Our thanks to all.

Disappointing from start to finish and a total rip off ! We arrived after travelling for over 12 hours ,our room wasn’t ready, there was nowhere available in the hotel to have something to eat or drink and we weren’t even offered a glass of water. Thankfully we were only booked into the Bistro and Michelin Star Restaurant for two nights. The service was poor and the food was not up to the standard that we were expecting for what we thought was going to be a food extravaganza. The Bistro and Michelin Star restaurant were both in an open courtyard area, a bottle of water on one side of the yard was five Euro and on the other side, not 4 meters away was eight Euro. Michel Trama the chief mixed among the locals but barely acknowledged us even though we were staying in his hotel for four nights. We spent an afternoon in the hotel beside the wasp infested pool and had to go and hunt down a member of staff to ask for a cup of coffee for which we paid for the pleasure. We paid dearly for what we thought was going to be a luxury stay with five star service and food. Unfortunately this was not what we got. The whole experience was very disappointing and was way, way over priced for what it was. Will never be back and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Paddy and Lisa

This was an outstanding experience. We had the tasting menu and I have to say it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had, truly exceptional. I was so impressed. A great wine list and first class service. My wife and I could not recommend a visit more.

We had dinner here whilst visiting for a wedding and it was beautiful. Very expensive (€48 for a risotto starter) but delicious and beautifully presented. My only complaint is that the chef was quite rude to us when he came out, we had no idea why. But other than that, I had the beef for main which was the best most succulent beef I’ve ever had!

We were looking forward to staying at Michel Trama on our final stop on our trip to the west of France. Puymirol is a very small village and was completely deserted in the beginning of October. The only open place we found was our hotel and the local Pharmacy, no cafe, no shops bar a bakery. We walked around the ancient wall that protected the town in old times. It took us about an hour to get back around and we were welcomed by the hotel staff with some cold sparkling water, which was delightful! It was quite warm and humid in the beginning of October.||||We had rear table in 2 star restaurant, an what a treat that was. We were met by young and enthusiastic staff that were extremely helpful and attentive. The Sommelier suggested something delicious wines by the glass to accompany our meal. And the meal itself was great. Probably the best Dorade Royal we ever have eaten! ||||A huge Thank You to all the Staff who made this stay a very memorable one. So nice to meet young persons that have travelled the world and see them so engaged and eager. And of course a even larger Thank You to the chef M Trama for presenting such a nice meal! We could not have asked for anything else.

Like most people who come to stay at Relais & Chateaux Michel Trama at Puymirol, we were here just as much for the 2 star Michelin restaurant (Aubergade) experience as anything else. On both counts we were not disappointed. Although we were on the top floor (lots of stairs) we had a lovely room with a separate bathroom and dressing room. It was quiet, roomy and comfortable. The public areas are beautifully furnished. There is a nice swimming pool too. The Relais staff were most obliging and helpful. The Aubergade experience was outstanding. The meal started with a beautiful amuse bouche and then I had the Aspic en gelee de legumes (sensational - what a clever creation). This was followed by Epaulet d'Agneau - again beautifully cooked and served. The waiting staff were helpful. M le Chef visited each table twice which we appreciated. All in all - a night to remember. The second night we went to the same restaurant but had what I suppose one could call the Menu du Jour, which was again very good. It was nice to juxtapose the two. Breakfasts are also served in the same area. Puymirol is an attractive village and worth a stroll. Perched on a hill, it enjoys some fine views of the countryside. It is also not that far (20 minutes) from the nearest train station (Agen), which we used (taxi to and from). One of the access roads to the town is really narrow and windy. The other more expansive. We had a great time and would recommend the experience to the discerning traveller.
