We stayed for two nights and wish we could have extended our stay. We came off-season and almost had the place to ourselves. The room reminded me of my travels to France in the early 80s, where the facilities were basic, no-frills but great value. Our room was large and faced the woods - it was blissfully quiet at night and the bed was really comfortable. Peter was a friendly and helpful host and the team he has with him this year are lovely. The food in the restaurant was locally-sourced, with some dishes created around produce from their garden or foraged from the woods. It was all beautifully cooked with care and attention to detail. There is a great selection of craft beers and local, organic wines. Everything was very reasonably priced considering the quality of produce. The breakfast was fantastic with a range of fruit, homemade yoghurt and preserves, local eggs, cheese and bread. The hotel itself is well off the beaten track but is ideal for walking, cycling and there are some lovely villages to explore by car. Thoroughly recommended if you looking to get away from it all with a great culinary experience.
