"Carole and Pascal Bastian welcome you to this imposing 18C coach house, which stylishly pairs Alsace heritage with sharp-edged class. Noble produce takes the limelight in recipes, poised between pure-bred classicism and inspired creativity, crafted by a chef who kicked off his career here, under the auspices of Fernand Mischler. His signature dishes include stuffed morel mushrooms glazed a in meat reducation, locally sourced venison and the Paris-Lembach dessert. Fans of the region will be delighted by the cosy guestrooms." - Michelin Inspector

We went to the restaurant over Christmas break 2023. We couldn’t recommend the restaurant more, it was everything we could have dreamed of, the food, the wine and the services was amazing. We came as a big group of 8 people and we all had a great time and enjoyed our experience.

I reserved a table for a group of 4 . The reservation was made in October for a table in December. I received a confirmation through Michelin Guide and another through The Fork. Then another email which demanded a credit card to hold the reservation. I provided my American Express Platinum and received another confirmation the night before. Our group traveled three hours by car to Auberge du Cheval Blanc. Upon arrival, a rude front desk clerk immediately advised that I had canceled the reservation. I shared that I had not and offered to show her the confirmation email from just the night prior. She ignored it and then advised that I must have made the reservation at a different restaurant. I showed her the name and address on the reservation; it was the correct location. She next advised that I was late – I again showed her the confirmation with the correct time; she was still not interested in looking at it. She now proceeded to tell me that they had cancelled my reservation because I had not given them a credit card, again, I told her that was not possible. I provided the information 2 months prior. Long story short, the clerk was hellbent on making me feel like I was the problem. She ignored any evidence to the contrary including the 4 confirmation emails I showed her. She was rude, unprofessional, had a poor attitude, and clearly zero training in customer service. Instead of eagerness to find out what went wrong within their system or reservation process, she treated us like unworthy peasants that must be thrown out of the establishment. Carol Bastian later joined us and requested we email her all our confirmations. We did as asked but never received as much as an apology or a reply. I have never experienced this horrid of service. And this from a 2-star Michelin restaurant. And imagine this: They refused to serve us but sent us an email the NEXT DAY wanting us to leave a review of our dining experience! Here it is: Stay away and seek out one of the many establishments that can offer great food AND service.

We booked a table for four at Auberege du Cheval Blanc through the Fork. We received numerous emails prior to our visit from The Fork, Michelin and from Auberege du Cheval prior to our visit. This included a request for a credit card which we responded to. We even received a confirmation email from the restaurant the day before our visit. When we arrived, we were told by a stern faced young lady that there is no reservation. We must be at the wrong restaurant. We then showed the confirmation email. We were then told we hadn’t provided credit card information. We then showed the confirmation we had. We were then told there is no table available. As gracious as we were through this exchange and requesting to have them make some accommodations of any sort, the women at the desk never cracked a smile, never apologized for any mistakes even as we continued to show proof of our reservation for that date (December 17, 2023) and that seating. She continued with a self-righteous attitude in the face of documentation to the contrary. She then begrudgingly got the Chef’s wife to come out. This time only with acknowledgement of their errors. Not once was an I’m sorry uttered or any apology or reparation made. No offer of attending a different day, no accommodation of any sort. I truly find it shocking that an establishment with such a lack of service or quality of management has earned a Michelin Star. A Michelin Star used to carry a level of service and professionalism as well as the quality of the food and dining experience. I am saddened that I feel I can no longer depend on a Michelin Guide rating.

We had booked a weekend for our family to celebrate a special birthday for my wife and I. This required three rooms and a table for 10, all of which turned out to be no problem (albeit after several e-mail exchanges to get things right). ||All three rooms (one in the main building and two larger ones in an annex) were very nicely appointed, including a modern bathroom and a spacious, welcoming shower after a day on the road. My wife and I even had a jacuzzi tub in our room. Our daughters reported that their rooms in the annex were spacious with quite enough room for the children.||The main objective was, of course, to celebrate together with a fine dinner. An alcove table for all of us was ideal, thereby shielding other guests from the potential noise of our four age 6 and under children/grandchildren. Firstly, we were very pleasantly surprised at the relaxed attitude of the personnel towards the little ones, not entirely obvious in a French restaurant of this calibre. Children's menus are available as well, another pleasant surprise.||The six adults ordered the "Balade en Alsace du Nord" menu, the medium menu of three on offer. This includes several amuse bouche and four dishes, all of which were wonderfully presented and marvellously delicious. The sommelier was very helpful in mastering the substantial wine list, in which we selected a very nice pinot gris d'Alsace for the first part of the meal and a sublime Volnay vieilles vignes for the latter part.||No visit to a top notch restaurant as this one would be complete, were the service not good. We are delighted to report that the service was also top notch. Friendly, ready not only to explain all the dishes (as is their job), but also to answer various questions and, if needed, to refer back to the kitchen if more information was necessary for curious guests. ||The breakfast buffet is also well above average and includes various specialities from the Alsace region.||As to price, this is a Michelin two star restaurant in a four star hotel rating, therefore corresponding price levels, but in our opinion well worth the money. ||In summary, there is nothing of essence to criticise for this visit to the Auberge du Cheval Blanc. Heading to a place of this quality with a large group and can make one apprehensive of the reception and attitude of the personnel. As already mentioned, all was very good indeed.||Our only regret is not having had enough time to enjoy the spa facilities on offer.||Despite its relative remoteness, this is a place we would definitely return to.

We have booked an offer for one night including Spa and dinner in the two star restaurant. Beside the greeting after arrival - which was a little bit cold in my view - everything was great. The Spa is small but has a pool, a relax area, saunas and one Hamam. The room was great! The dinner was incredible!! The service in the restaurant was outstanding! If you are smoker, take enough cigarettes. The next tabac shop is in Germany at the border, 20 minutes away.

We rented a chalet for a week in Alsace and the owners recommended this restaurant. They very kindly booked us a table for Sunday lunch and made sure we could take our dog.|It is a hotel restaurant in a village. The toilets were very plush.|The food was lovely, very much fine dining. The amuse bouche were lovely as was the bread.|My husband and daughter had the halibut and I had the fillet steak with marrowbone. I ordered the steak to try marrowbone for the first time, however too rich for me. The dishes were lovely.|Highlight were the desserts, very pretty arrangement. Our daughter had a deconstructed Dame Blanche and it was decorated with a ballerina biscuit. I had a Mojito based dessert, and that came with a small Mojito. Delicious!|The staff were very accommodating to us and our dog. Well worth a visit.

We booked a nice suite for 2 nights and made a reservation in the restaurant for 2 nights (confirmed by mail) and at arrival on Saturday there was no reservation in the restaurant and they put a really small table near the fireplace for us to enjoy our dinner. Dinner and wines was ok!.Next evening we expected a much better table but again a small one (the only one) was ours.We were the only not French/German people in the house and maybe that was our problem but we did spend a lot (room, dinner and wine) so maybe you may expect some (extra) service. The breakfast lady was the best and she did not care if you were German, French or Dutch..se did her work with a smile.

Very appointed service; in touch with it's two star rating. Cuisine was excellent with appropriate portions for a five course meal. The wine pairing were very nicely done and an extra pour was allowed at no charge. The rooms are nice with some garden and hillside views. The carpet needs replacing but otherwise very nice. Breakfast was very nice with a lovely glassed in sunroom for eating. Prices are in line with the overall experience. We would return; for sure. Ken & Caroline Knapp

This is quite simple: If you want the best food bar none within a 1.5 hour drive of the KMC, this is the place to go. Get the duck breast. Trust me.
