Yelp
I don't even like surprises, but I love the ever-changing menu at Lulu. The emphasis on what's fresh and available is awesome, and it's the perfect representation of California cuisine.
You don't come here for the coffee, but sipping a Cortado or Cappuccino inside an art museum is truly lovely.
The food is simple, but everything is the best of the best. The Baked Sonoma Goat Cheese is sweet and creamy, surrounded by the freshest salad you'll ever eat.
A White Bean Soup has notes of savor in an earth, thick puree, and drops of chili oil add a gentle bite.
A Spicy Eggplant Banh Mi is made with the tenderest of eggplants between bites of potent pickles.
The prix fixe plate has an incredibly soft grilled chicken, dripping juice. The asparagus is still almost crispy, and even the potatoes taste more like potato than any other potato I've had.
Desserts are fun too and not too sweet. A Brown Butter Almond Cake would have gone best with one of those coffees, and the Chocolate Pave is simply a square of cake without flour.
My descriptions do no justice to the full and forgotten flavors of fresh vegetables and fruit. Everything here is super understated so if you want fancy plates and strong sauces, maybe go somewhere else, but if you just want simple food prepared in the freshest, most flavorful way possible, Lulu's is worth a visit.
