Augie's Cafe - Review - Westview - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"This tiny all-day breakfast spot in Westview is full of wonders like “where the hell do you park” and “how do they fit people in here.” Then, the brunch gods find you a spot across the street, and to your delight, you’re seated rather quickly. That’s likely because the food is out of the kitchen fast. Yet, the flavors on their crispy whole wings and spicy jack grits don’t taste rushed at all. And you’ll want to stick to those savory options since they're the best things on the menu, but the slightly tough waffle is a solid sweet compliment if you get one of their combo deals. While you eat, scan the picture wall of ‘80s singers like Marvin Gaye, who have music ties to the restaurant’s namesake, vocalist, and songwriter Augie Johnson." - Nina Reeder

I’m back in my home state and a week later oh how I wish I could get some more Augie’s. We were in town for a family reunion and we visited Augie’s before heading out to do some sightseeing. The food was a 10/10! All of us were extremely satisfied with our food choices. The waitstaff was so impressive. Draper didn’t write anything down and got our orders, correct. Very friendly and made good recommendations. It was so good we came back the next day and got some to go before we headed to Stone Mountain for our family reunion festivities. The chicken and Mac and cheese were my favorites. They give you nice portion sizes too .My only complaint is that it was a bit warm inside but overall it was a very nice dining experience.

Google
My 1st time trying this location and it still lives up to my expectations 10/10— the portion sizes makes the food worth the money! My house potatoes were seasoned to perfection and my catfish was crispy just the way I like it! My grilled salmon was really good too✨

Rhonda Anthony

Google
Food was hot, fresh and flavorful! Seasoned perfectly and the portions are generous! Everything they put on our table was a hit! Highly recommend the catfish and grits! And Draper provides excellent customer service! The best food experience of my Atlanta trip thus far!

Google
The food was amazing! I'm from Texas and didn't realize they had other locations. We ended up going to the Augie's café. Which was a very small tiny place that I think is more for pick up to go food and I'm going to assume there were like eight or nine tables and I do not believe there was AC if there was a AC it didn't work very well. However, if you do pick that particular location, it probably would be better to get the food to go because it was amazing and it was made to order hot and fresh.

Google
I placed an order on Uber Eats and walked over to pick up my order this morning. The hostess was really kind and my order was ready for pick up when I got there. I took my order to go but the setting is definitely nice cafe vibes. Some restaurants focus to much on the vibes versus the food but if you're a foodie like me, this would be a nice go to. The price of the food is also spot on. I'm halfway through my pancakes now lol

This was my husband and I’s first time here and we loved it! We came in hearing great things and great recommendations and we were not disappointed! Our waitress had a light, positive and bubbly attitude which we enjoyed, the decor was nice and loved the music and movies playing and the food was delicious!!! We got the peach and strawberry Mimosas, the Chicken and Waffles (can’t remember what it’s called on the menu), a side of eggs, and the Salmon and grits. Had to stop and commend the 1 chef to let him know he was doing an amazing job! Will definitely recommend to others and will surely revisit!

Google
I had a great dine-in experience! The service was fast, and the food arrived hot and delicious. The atmosphere was a highlight—I really enjoyed the music and the artwork on the walls. Overall, I’d rate it a solid 7/10. Plus, I left satisfied with leftovers to enjoy later!

Food was amazing! The scent and taste of the bacon reminds you of your childhood waking up in the morning to your grandmother's cooking. The "You're The One I want" (Fish and Grits) was phenomenal! I highly recommend! Ambiance was amazing with the good music vibes and set up!

Yelp
-big and hearty meal -amazing service -flavor packed -caffeinated sweet tea Small diner with a cozy interior. Server was super nice and created us immediately upon entering. I ordered the chicken and waffles. My partner ordered the grits and sweet tea. (I would order all three items again) Parking is directly outside or in the nearby neighborhood. Fried chicken was super juicy and flavorful. Probably the best chicken and waffles I've ever had. Crispy/flavorful skin with a juicy interior. Grits were super flavorful and the cheese added so much goodness. Their sweet tea was really refreshing and VERY caffeinated.

Yelp
We recently visited Augie's Restaurant for brunch and had a good experience. We were greeted by Draper, who promptly seated us. The restaurant was surprisingly empty for a Friday afternoon. The menu is on a QR code on the table. We ordered French toast, eggs, pancakes and coffee. We were impressed by how quickly the food arrived and the portion sizes were just right. Draper was not only friendly but also knowledgeable about the restaurant and the local community. The vibe of Augie's was enjoyable, with smooth R&B music playing in the background and walls had pictures of various performers. However, I did notice the cleanliness of the restaurant was average. In the booth area, there were bits of dried food on the walls from previous guests, which detracted slightly from the overall experience. Additionally, the restaurant which has been around for a while and is very charming, could benefit from some updates to enhance the appearance. Despite these minor issues, the food was very good, and we left satisfied. I recommend Augie's Restaurant just with the understanding of what to expect in terms of ambiance and cleanliness. 20% gratuity included on total order.

Yelp
Dropped in a little before noon on a Saturday. The music was upbeat and oldies vibes. There were a few groups dining in, I was directed to take seating at a high top. You are able to scan a QR code for the menu at each table. The environment was overall chill and inviting. Being met with a pleasant personality and welcoming energy was nice as well. I wanted something light but still had room for breakfast food. Shrimp and grits seemed like the move. The shrimp were seasoned well, and the spinach in the dish made for a nice addition. The parmesan cheese pulled the meal together. The portion was good for me. The dish could have been warmer overall but still had good flavors. I didn't have room for the biscuit. The strawberry mimosa was ok. I'd try some of their other menu items if in the area again.

Yelp
Real talk, this is one of the best breakfast GEMS I have ever eaten at. Accidentally stopped here because Slutty Vegan was closed down and we (the entire family) were EXTREMELY pleased. Burrito, grits, eggs, turkey bacon, French toast and lemonade all 10/10. If Keith Lee came here and left a review the whole of Atlanta would be standing outside making the cooks go crazy.

Yelp
This spot is amazing! I was on a mission to discover some incredible down south food, and I had my heart set on brunch. While in Atlanta for my daughter's dance competition, I stumbled upon this gem, and it completely surpassed my expectations. Every dish was satisfying and packed with flavor. The grits and cheese were wonderfully creamy, and the waffles were cooked to perfection. Let's just say I left feeling very pleased! Our waiter, Draper, was incredibly attentive--took our order without writing anything down, and somehow got it all right. He brought such warm energy, making us feel like family while humming sounding like an angel in the restaurant.

Yelp
This location is a very small and intimate, there's a step to get into the restaurant so it's not wheelchair or stroller accessible. There is free street parking located outside. Went on a Friday afternoon so it wasn't too busy and food didn't take long to come out. My friend and I had the catfish while my other friend order the pancake breakfast. The catfish was well seasoned, juicy, and hot. The grits needed a little salt and pepper and more chopped peppers and onions. The spinach was a nice surprise on top and added a different texture to the catfish and grits. The pancakes tasted airy and good my friend thought they were a bit dry and didn't have the crispy edges she anticipated. Drink prices were not listed on the menu but the mimosa's were $10. 20% gratuity is already included. I would come back again next time I would try the other location for the space.

Yelp
I ran up on this quant Bruch spot on the Westside. The parking is street style just get there early. The place isn't that big bit the atmosphere is perfect ! Ole Skool R&B on a Sunday morning is fine with me along with the hospitality of the waiter. I thought I was at Aunties house. The portions are big and as I saw everyone had a to go box. Please support this business!! We need this in the community!!

Yelp
Food and Service is THE BOMB!! When I tell y'all the fish and grits with spinach and whatever the sauce was on top was GOOD!! My husband had the salmon omelette and a side of pancakes. I forgot to take a picture but here is the finish plate... Draper was everything!!!
google avatar

Kamale D.

Yelp
If i could give this quaint restaurant 10 stars I would!!! The ambience, the food, the service absolutely impeccable. Drapper gave great recommendations, the grits with catfish and shrimp was amazing! Food was definitely made with love.

Yelp
I'm so glad I found out about this restaurant. My daughter and I were in Atlanta for an event and I decided to dine here for breakfast. I had the "Don't Stand So Close to Me" omelette with Shrimp along with 3 wings on the side. My daughter had "Never Can Say Goodbye". The food is delicious as my daughter and I each cleared our plates! The service was wonderful as we were greeted as we walked into the restaurant. The restaurant decorated with photos of different music artists from Rock & Roll, Hip Hop and R & B. Each item on the menu is named after a different song. I will definitely be back next time I'm in Atlanta.

Yelp
I love this restaurant. It's small and quaint and the waiter (Draper) was on point. The salmon and grits dish is amazing. and the fried chicken wings are the bomb. This place is small and quaint and the food is delicious. The service is great and I will definitely be back. Service - 10 Food - 10 Ambience - 8

Yelp
So my wife and I wanted to do brunch. We decided to try a be spot. Augie's Cafe had good reviews on Yelp. We are an 8 minute drive so decided to check them out. When I tell you we were not disappointed! We were immediately excited about the decor with images of legendary Motown artists and Black cinema and television shows. Draper was our host and server. Took great care of us and the entire dining room solo! The food was outstanding. The menu items are named for the songs of musical legends. My wife ordered the Don't Stand So Close to Me, a veggie and cheese omelette. She added steak and a side of pancakes. I had the Ready or Not, a basic breakfast (eggs, chicken sausage, potatoes and a biscuit). The biscuits were grilled after being baked. In the words of Luther, everything was "So Amazing "
google avatar

Yelp
The food was really good and the service was excellent. Draper did an amazing job in making sure we had a great experience as this was our first time at the cafe. It was a welcoming atmosphere and we were seated very quickly.

Yelp
Slammin! Literally my first stop after leaving the airport. Got the wings and strawberry waffles + a side of chicken sausages. Everything was really good, the chicken was flavorful and fried to perfection. The service was also top notch! Def recommend!

Yelp
Wow. This place is great. Excellent service and food to match the service. The breakfast is very yummy and cooked exactly to order. The street parking was easy and close to the building. The inside was intimate. It is a must try location and you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
I needed a place neat I20 to have lunch with coworkers. Wasn't sure what we would get but when we got there it was so much more than I even imagined! Wonderful soul food and brunch on a weekday! Go here!

Yelp
Finally made it to Augie's! I've driven by it for years and then heard it recommended on WABE's Savory Stories podcast. I had the catfish and grits as recommended and it was delicious! I think I would have wanted a bit more of the spicy Parmesan sauce, though. My sister and I shared our dishes so we could have the ultimate brunch combo (savory & sweet!) and she ordered the brioche French toast. It was also good, would have wanted more berries on the plate. We were impressed with the portion size, definitely worth the price. Service was great-- friendly and fast despite being busy. Ambience: It's a tiny little shoebox cafe, but has lots of character. Loved the music wall of 80's legends and the music they had playing-- Carl Carlton, Marvin Gaye. All together a great experience-- will be going again to try their shrimp and grits!
google avatar

Wanisha H.

Yelp
Free parking! Service was A1. Food came out quick and was delicious. Love the decor and the music! Draper was our server and he did an excellent job. He handled the entire restaurant with a smile. Quality of food was good and the prices were good. Pleasant surprise!

Yelp
I came with one of my girlfriends from high school/ college to catch up. I learned about this place from Uber eats bc I've gotten their breakfast delivered to my job before but never knew where they were located. I stumbled in this plaza going to Rusans a week earlier when I figured out they were located here. The space is nice. I like the wall of history you see when you walk in. The food is good at a great price point! If you want a nice brunch without the loud music, grass wall, and all the theatrics then this is the place for you!
google avatar

Nandi S.

Yelp
10/10 Food was amazing, taste was savory and the price was right. You will leave full and satisfy. I appreciate the customer service and plating of the dishes. Show they truly care about their art. Music and wall was soothing

Yelp
We did a 1 day visit to Atlanta and right off the plane stopped for some breakfast. Nice little quaint place and an awesome staff that feels like family. Now let's get to the music and food. This is why you come here. The food was so good and fresh and tasty. Music was just giving vibes while we were eating breakfast. Next time we are in the "A" we will be back

Yelp
This was my first time here and I must say this was a truly nice experience! I loved that there wasn't a long wait to come in and get seated to eat brunch food on a Saturday!!! From the time we walked in all the way until we left everything was great, our server was awesome and was on point with everything! I ended up getting the pancakes and chicken and truly those pancakes were a 10/10! I also added a side of Mac and cheese and potatoes and honestly the Mac and cheese taste as if it should have some sort of seafood in there. I feel like if it did had a seafood protein it would have made it so much better! Another thing that I also really liked about this place is that I was able to park my car right outside the door. I am not sure how I got lucky, but there is free parallel parking in front of the building. I love supporting a black owned business and I can't wait to return to try other things on their menu soon.
google avatar

Erika W.

Yelp
Augie's Cafe does not disappoint any day of the week. They have consistently great service with delicious food. The vibe is always great and you will find yourself swaying to the music and enjoying your meal. Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Guadalupe W.

Yelp
I order lots of things to go but I can say everything was delicious! And to top it off customer service was great! Bathrooms were very clean so that tells me the kitchen is clean as well. The chicken was not salty and perfect and not dry. I can't wait to go back again highly recommend (no military discount)
google avatar

Yelp
I would give this place 6 stars if I could. I was expecting a good experience - it's well rated, in the city, and representative of a prominent culture within the city. What I got was the best soul food experience I've ever had. I ordered the shrimp and grits - which was amazing. Simply amazing. All components were perfectly cooked. The grits had a perfect spice level that made them seem Cajun - enough to break a sweat, but not so much as to overwhelm any other flavors. I ate the entire, giant, plate. I'm still sweating. The biscuits, wow. Perfect consistency, perfect taste. Crunchy on the outside, but not too much, fluffy and moist inside. Butter, honey, heaven. I had a bite of the salmon omelette and it was good but not a revelation. I should've asked for my Arnold Palmer to be made with unsweetened tea, because it was a bit much until I diluted it with an almost equal portion of cold water, but I can't hold that against them. I'm going to be dreaming of those biscuits.
google avatar

Jamie K.

Yelp
This review is bitter sweet.... Only because I really want to gate keep this gem!!! But I also want nothing but success for my people so here goes...... IT'S THE BOMB YALL!!!! The customer service is great! It's the ONLY brunch spot I've been to in Atlanta that doesn't have a ridiculous wait and the show stopper is the AMAZING FOOD!! I've had it a few times and it's consistently great! I always leave satisfied! I highly recommend this spot, it's cozy and quaint, with a laid back vibe, feel good music playing and great food! Give it a try! My boo with the long locs and always nice nails will get you right.

Yelp
DELICIOUS!!!! I was craving my breakfast favorites (pancakes, waffles, French toast) and we decided to order one of each. Trust me, all we had was delicious. Fluffy pancakes, soft and flavorful French toast, perfect waffle, great eggs... Everything was pretty good and we had a very nice service too. So glad we tried this place, we'll be definitely back

Karen M.

Yelp
The food was great. Service was good. Excellent expresso martini's. Cost was very reasonable.
google avatar

Kyshia M.

Yelp
I ordered to-go via Yelp. I had the Never To Much... ok, before I tap into my meal let's talk about this meal names. They are song titles and I am here for it!!! I love this concept and is why I ordered. Although I had ordered to-go I had to come inside to get my meal. This place is super small. I recommend ordering takeout or coming early morning on a weekday. Back to my meal... the Never To Much is brioche french toast w/ berries, your choice of meat and eggs. I did turkey bacon and fried eggs. Everything was good! There were 4 half's of french toast. 3 thick pieces of turkey bacon and 2 eggs fried perfectly. I'd eat here all the time if I lived in ATL.
google avatar

Sade C.

Yelp
Stopped by to check this place out because I heard the food was delicious and I've visited their sister location, Fin&Feathers, for dinner. It's the perfect size space for a cafe... not too many people during my visit. My friend and I sat at the bar and the waitress/bartender was very pleasant. I ordered one of the first, if not the first item on the menu: eggs, bacon, grits and a biscuit and I was satisfied with the taste of everything. The portions were great for the price and the flavor was definitely there. The grits were my favorite!!! The reason they get 4 stars is due to the time it took for our food to be prepared. My friend ordered a breakfast burrito and I think my order was relatively simple... we took into consideration there were other orders; however, a man who sat at the bar after us was served before us. I had a view of the kitchen from the bar top and it appeared to only have one cook and one stove so that could be the reason for the delay as well. Despite the wait I do intend on returning.

Yelp
Let me tell yall something this place right here is a hidden gem. It is not expensive at all and the food quality is SOOO GOOOD. Now let me give yall the real tea Draper the server is the absolute best. He did his big one because he ensured that me and my homegirl ate, drank, and left with the best service. I will definitely be coming back as this restaurant is down the street from my house. This restaurant was a vibe too from the music from the decor it was a vibe.

Serendipity S.

Yelp
Phenomenal service!! We were able to easily find parking ( 2:00pm) Chef Devin went above and beyond on these dishes, oh my goodness!! Dish names:Walk on the Wild Side & Never can Say Goodbye. It was definitely hard to say goodbye lol
google avatar

Jessica W.

Yelp
My husband and I went with no reservation. We were quickly seated but was given the heads up that the kitchen was backed up. We appreciated the noticed and were delighted when our food arrived within 20 mins. Food was seasoned to perfection and the staff were really nice. The only thing I would say is that it's very small. They could definitely use a bigger space.
google avatar

Kee K.

Yelp
Now this is a dope spot. I was looking for a small business to patronize and they did not disappoint. The staff was so friendly and they prepared the meals exactly how it was ordered. The atmosphere is very comforting and the place is clean. I love the names of the meals, that was super dope! But most of all, I will never forget how delicious the meal was. The price was right and I have only positive things to say about this place! Please visit if you are near, you will be happy you did! Ultimately, the service was great. The dining experience was conducive to creative conversations. I can't wait to return.
google avatar

Jordan T.

Yelp
Yall! OK, I must admit. I visited this place weeks ago, and while I wanted to leave a review to support the business, I too wanted to gatekeep! The pic speaks for itself! And in addition service was 10 out of 10! Not over priced, with hookah blowing in your face or music too loud to think! Just the right vibes. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Naomi K.

Yelp
This review is for Draper (I hope I have his name right; if not, I apologize). While this isn't a review of the food, it's a tribute to his kindness, which stood out above everything else. Draper was extremely attentive and exuded a warm, generous spirit, offering tight, heartfelt hugs. Although my memories of Atlanta are few, my interaction with him will forever remain in my heart. I wish him abundance and love that exceed all his desires. Ps. The red nails are fire ! Minni

Yelp
Cool decor, great music, vintage Apollo Theater playin on the tv's. Super friendly host welcomed me to my table and brought a great cup of coffee. I had the veggie omelette and a biscuit, came out hot and fast. I didn't think I could finish, omelette stuffed with fresh veggies, topped with shredded cheese, biscuit had this honey butter spread, all amazing. Loved it and will look forward to visiting again :)
google avatar

Dionne F.

Yelp
Food is slamming. Got the Catfish and grits and it was a delicious, flavorful generous portion of food. Service was impeccable and attentive (homie with the locs and nails is a whole vibe). And the music was a great pick me up for my day. Best believe I'll be returning to the ATL gem!

Mark B.

Yelp
Great food and service. Get there early because seating is limited but ambience is nice. The decor pays homage to the culture.
google avatar

Joanne A.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I visited on a regular Thursday morning. There was no wait. The food here was so so so good! We had the fried catfish and shrimp over sautéed spinach and grits 10/10, we also shared the French toast 10/10. The coffee was just ok. Our waiter Draper was very attentive and the music was nice . We'll be back!
google avatar

Juan E.

Yelp
They add 20% auto Grat and then they expect additional tip ---- The waiter then states it was a service fee and any tip would go to him as the so called service fee is for the house
google avatar

Jasmine H.

Yelp
There wasn't anything bad on this menu if we're being honest. All of the entrees are named after songs which is fitting because there's nothing but photos of artists on the walls inside. I got "Never can say goodbye " aka chicken and waffles and it was fire. The chicken was fried perfectly and the waffle was *chefs kiss* My partner ordered "never too much" aka the brioche French toast. The picture speaks for itself and was just that damn good. We also got a side of grits which was pretty good too. Shoutout to our waiter, Draper!
google avatar

Fiorella D.

Yelp
Hidden jewel. This place is tiny but AMAZING!!!!! The food is delicious, and the service the best. I 100% recommend trying their brunch!

Ra-Sheta H.

Yelp
You have to visit this place. Run don't walk... Everything is good!! I loved the breakfast. I had a shrimp omelet, home fries and that biscuit will have you questioning life as it melts in your mouth... Our server was sooo down to earth and it's just an overall good vibe. Reminded me of my childhood with Soul Train playing in the background. The next time I'm in ATL this will be my first stop.
google avatar

Eri J.

Yelp
Well well well, if this isn't a diamond in the rough. Visited Augie's Cafe on Valentine's Day. First the server, Draper, was so welcoming and made the experience amazing. The restaurant itself is nice and cozy. The decor displays an appreciation for old school Hollywood with pictures on the walls of Teena Marie, Madonna, Jackson 5. Now the food was a 10/10. The catfish and grits were fresh and hot, the French toast was not overly sweet, and that chicken sandwich could feed 2 people. I will definitely be back with family and girlfriends.
google avatar

Lorrie W.

Yelp
Baby!!! Run, don't walk to Augie's Cafe! The food was delicious!!! My fish was fried to perfection and well seasoned. My grilled shrimp were so good. The parmesan cheese sauce was a great compliment to the grits. My husband loved his omelette. My godson enjoyed his pancakes, eggs, and bacon. My mil enjoyed her biscuit, eggs, and turkey sausage. The service was quick. The server was nice and very accommodating with our requests. The place has a cool, cozy feel. I love the artists on the wall and the fact that they name their dishes after famous songs.
google avatar

J T.

Yelp
The food and service were PHENOMENAL!!! I love this place and 200% recommend... you won't be disappointed.. TRUST ME!!!!
google avatar

Nia G.

Yelp
I absolutely love coming here because the food never disappoints! I've eaten the salmon & grits- shrimp & grits (which are cooked to perfection and a creamy-spicy sauce), but my favorite meal is the fried chicken wings and waffles. The wings are perfectly seasoned and the batter of the waffle is already sweet(no syrup needed). The service is great- Draper- my favorite server, is attentive and checks on us at the right time for coffee refills. The location is small/intimate and not too loud(I hate Djs or loud music in tiny spaces) You can actually hold a conversation! For the best privacy and space- get a booth. How this could get 5stars? A resturant of this caliber should have more space, and during busy times (Sunday brunch) have 3servers or reduce the menu. At times the wait is long for a seat, and the delicious food. Overall, Kudos to the chef & owner. You have a winner and we do too, since I live locally
