Augie's Breakfast Bar - Review - Edgewood - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Augie’s Breakfast Bar in Edgewood has a really good brunch with an old-school diner feel. It's the kind of place where you’ll probably make a friend, or bump elbows with your neighbor. Servers hustle between tables topping off coffee, while cooks flip pancakes on the flat top in the open kitchen. It’s always busy with a cast of regulars who argue loudly about the Falcons’ playoff chances as they slather syrup on their fluffy stacks. Even when it's packed, you can usually snag a quick seat at the bar, where you get a front row view of the kitchen while you dig into great hearty Southern staples like thick, chargrilled steak and buttery biscuits. On the weekends, your best bet is to come solo or with a small group." - Jacinta Howard

Angie’s Cafe is a small, quaint spot with a cozy atmosphere and outdoor seating. The service was good and our waitress was attentive throughout the meal. The food was excellent my steak (medium well) was cooked perfectly, and my daughter couldn’t stop raving about the potatoes. The grits and cheese were also very flavorful. Overall, everything we tried had great taste and quality. We went on a Sunday around 11:30 AM, and it got very crowded not long after. In fact, some people ended up leaving because of the wait. That said, I respect that the kitchen took the time to prepare the food right instead of just rushing it out. If you don’t mind waiting during peak hours, this little gem is definitely worth a visit for the great food and friendly service.

Great place for brunch. Nice Vibes with the music. Food was Outstanding! We beat the crowd but service was a little slow but Server Was very Friendly. She had alot of responsibilities. She did Awesome! Exhaust in there could use some updating, a little smoky.. Would definitely return and recommend!

I ordered the catfish and grits, and they were spot-on & absolutely delicious. I waited about 15 minutes to be seated and around 45 minutes for my food (on a Saturday), but it was well worth the wait. My server, Alicia, provided excellent service. I'd highly recommend this restaurant and will certainly return.

Food is excellent the steak was seasoned to perfection. Eboni our server greeted us with an amazing smile and such a pleasant attitude. If your on the fence this is your confirmation to eat here you will not be disappointed.

My boyfriend and I love Augie’s. We usually go to the one on Ralph David but found ourselves trying the one on Caroline Street. We ordered the catfish, Easy lovers, and isn’t she lovely. The catfish was amazing alongside the Isn’t she lovely. With my easy lovers it was shrimp based. I couldn’t even bite through the shrimp. I nicely asked my waiter if it could be remade, just the shrimp not the whole meal. Shavon(waitress) was very nice and asked the chef and he quickly got an attitude and made a big deal out of it and asked how many I ate. Come to find out it comes with 5 shrimp and one of the chefs dropped mine and forgot to remake it and initially it came with 4 . In addition to the unnecessary attitude - there’s a real problem with fruit flies (gnats) I’ve had to swipe away around 7 times at bugs in here . But in conclusion . This adventure here at Augies was alright but if there was a tad bit better customer service from the chef I believe I would’ve enjoyed myself 10x more .

This breakfast bar in Atlanta is a true hidden gem! The food is incredibly fresh, flavorful, and perfectly savory — you can really taste the quality in every bite. The staff were warm. Eboni, our server was attentive, and genuinely seemed to care about making sure we had a great experience. The service was quick without feeling rushed, and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. If you’re looking for a place in Atlanta to start your day off right, this is the spot. Highly recommend!!

Went here at noon after church for breakfast. My first time here, no wait and was able to get a table quickly. The food came out fresh and delicious 😋. Reasonable prices. Friendly staff and cool atmosphere. Definitely give them a try, you won't regret it!! 💯😊 Also, I love the cute little names they have for the different plates of food too!! 😂 Especially, if you don't eat pork,..they have vegan and chicken sausage links.

I kept forgetting to do my review from our visit on Oct 12 but here goes. Location is nice with free parking and the hostess that sat us was nice and friendly. The waitress started off friendly but something, I'm not sure what, changed her mood and she went from smiling and friendly to short and dry. I've never been to a restaurant that gives you grits on a plate instead of a bowl. It seems like an attempt to hide the amount of grits you're receiving. The waffle was good but the chicken skin was crumbly as if the grease should've been changed. I did like the area that appears to be added on, like a sun room and the Arnold Palmer was delicious. There were a few gnats that were annoying, even in the bathroom. It was ok overall but we all agreed we probably won't return.

Yelp
I used to work in this area years ago when it was a pizza spot at this location. As I was over this way, I saw this spot and decided to give it a try. Overall , I've came back two more times shhh . Plenty of seats to dine in. Pictures on the walls and they had some great old school music playing. There was a patio portion as well if you wanted to eat outside. My waitress was awesome. Got to me right away and shared her most favorite items with me. I will definitely bring more people back with me. That grits and blackened salmon was the bomb!!! That's what made me come back ! Good place overall! You'll love it.

Yelp
2/5 - First and Last Visit at Augie's It's a pretty Saturday morning, so we decided to try a new spot. The wheel was spun and landed on Augie's, located at 1220 Caroline St, Atlanta, GA 30307. I checked out the website and, after reading some of the reviews, we decided to give it a try. As I write this, we're now an hour into our visit -- and we still haven't received our food. Upon entering, I stood for over six minutes waiting for someone to greet us so I could find out whether we should seat ourselves or wait to be seated. We were eventually greeted by a beautifully seasoned woman with a great smile and pleasant attitude. She seated us on the patio, and about ten minutes later a server appeared to take our drink order. It took another fifteen minutes for her to return -- with only water (which no one ordered). She answered our questions about the menu and said she'd return with our drinks and take our food order. Ten minutes later, she returned with only two of the five drinks and finally took our order. At this point, it had been an hour and ten minutes with no return to the table and no food. I finally went inside to ask about our order, and another server was sent to check. A few minutes later, the food arrived. The food was medium-hot, making me wonder how long it had been sitting in the window. Presentation was okay, but the taste was just average. The Parmesan cheese overpowered the shrimp and grits, and the pancakes had a slightly gritty texture. Overall, this was not the relaxing brunch experience we hoped for. Service was extremely slow, and the food didn't make up for the wait. I absolutely never have to return.

Yelp
Food was amazing The service was even better and the mocktails were the best mocktails I've ever had. I'll be going back soon because they're family friendly i'm going to take the whole family including the kids

Yelp
Augie's has a good overall concept. The food is delicious and well flavored. My wife and I enjoyed the "Hot Stuff" which is the rib eye steak with eggs and choice of side. Both were cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The place is really tiny and the check in process is not clear to guests. When I entered, no one initially greeted me but after inquiry I received the response, "we will be with you in a second sir." True to the word we were shortly approached for our party size. They worked on our seating arrangement quickly and our party of 8 was seated within 10 minutes. Our server, Ebony, was pleasant and took great care of us. The entire family stated how wonderful their food was even without me asking. This was a great overall stop with tasty food. I would love to see them reorganize the guest check in process and examine the brunch drink menu, as they did not offer a few things we requested. Ebony did make up for this too and was very clear about what she could do instead. All in all, great place, good food, just a bit tiny.

Yelp
Visited on a Friday afternoon with my husband. Location is in a plaza so there's ample parking and the interior is a lot larger than I expected, they even have an enclosed patio. There weren't many people and we were told to seat ourselves so we sat in the booth. The server greeted us and gave us menus which we appreciated more than using the qr codes on the table. She asked us what we wanted to drink and we both said waters. I found them bc of tik tok so I inquired about the bottomless mimosas which she said they did. They had a nice selection of flavors and some I had never heard of it. He got strawberry and I got mango. While she went to get drinks, we looked at the menu. I decided on The Way You Make Me Feel with scrambled eggs and vegan sausage. My husband got the omelet with steak and it came with a biscuit. After she took our order, we sipped out drinks, and enjoyed each other's company. The decor was simple but lively and they had some good old school R&B playing. The food came out and looked good! My pancakes had a crispy edge which I loved. Vegan sausage was what it was and the scrambled eggs could've used some salt and pepper. Husband thoroughly enjoyed his omelet, saying that the flavor was on point. That biscuit was so good, it was fluffy and melted in your mouth. I should've ordered me one lol. All in all, it was a great experience and great value. I can't wait to return.

Yelp
I just enjoyed a wonderful breakfast here. We were surprised and delighted to find that it wasn't crowded on a Sunday afternoon after church. The service was quick and friendly, the food piping hot, the decor bright and cheerful. I had a wonderfully light, crisp waffle with perfectly seasoned chicken wings. My husband loved his French toast and bacon. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
I was in the area and wanted to grab a quick bite on a Thursday late morning and saw this brunch spot. I walked in and was quickly served. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and a good amount of tables for the size. I ordered "Keep that same old feeling" which included 3 whole fried wings, collards and mac n cheese. Everything was really tasty, which can be a challenge for delivering good collards and man n cheese. The wings were perfectly cooked. I'll definitely go back again. Know they include a mandatory 20% gratuity in your check before you pay.

Yelp
Too many cousin owned restaurants in Atlanta so I don't feel bad about no longer frequenting this place after 3 times and bad service. Food is good but manager and owners take us for granted. Ambiance is good with good soul and r&b and early hip hop but ridiculous they are this slow. No more. Never coming back.

Yelp
Ok, ok....Now I know damn well that I'm supposed to take photos. I'm cognitive of this but I will say in my defense that I had no idea just how BOMB this food would be. Holy Googa MOOGA! First of all...the scrambled eggs? Yeah THOSE. Are some of the best I've had in LIFE! The French toast was actually (and I'm embarrassed to say this..) even better than my own! The nerve of Augie's!!. The customer service, decor, timeliness, ambience, music. Yeah folks..we've got a 10 out of 10 with this spot right here. My new Atlanta FAVORITE. Mic drop!

Yelp
Food is great. Customer service is nice. But be prepared to wait for the food. Even if there is only a few tables in there. I also advise going BEFORE 11am.. after that. Don't expect expedited service. I always get the fish and grits and French toast. Food is BOMB though. Just don't be in a rush to be somewhere when you go.

Yelp
4.2/5 Came here for a birthday brunch with the family. We were able to get a table less than 5 mins of walking in. Our waitress was really nice and accommodating, especially when my niece's food was the very last to come out. She felt bad and even gave her extra whipped cream for her pancakes. The pace of the food was pretty slow tho, took us a little over 20-30 minutes to get our food. The grits were a lil lumped together and the salmon was just okay; the real star of the dish was the spicy Parmesan sauce that was topped over the grits. My sister enjoyed the steak and said everything was well seasoned and cooked. The main area is pretty small, leaving little space to walk in between the tables but they do have a covered patio as well.

Yelp
When in ATL, you must visit this spot! - Handsome the best Shrimp and Grits ever - The steak was perfectly cooked. - The sauce on the waffles was everything! The food was amazing as was the service! We can't wait to come back

Yelp
My fiancé found this place today on yelp and we decided to check it out! I'm so glad we did. As you enter everyone is friendly and welcoming. The music is giving soul and neo vibes. The bathrooms are very clean! And now lets talk about the food baby! I ordered Chicken wings and pancakes!!!! No cap, the BEST pancakes I have EVER had. No exaggeration! Crispy edges, buttery, thin and simply amazing. The chicken wings were fried to perfection and seasoned perfectly! The chef was amazing! My fiancee ordered catfish and grits ; The fish was seasoned and fried perfectly! The grits were creamy, flavorable, cheesy and honestly top tier! This will now be our go to breakfast spot! Everything 10/10!!!!! Please just go support and check out this amazing black owned space!

Yelp
Another ATL restaurant that forces you to give 20% on poor service. I had the catfish and grits and a plain waffle. One piece of fish (which was well seasoned) the grits (had no flavor and the consistency was SUPER thick) the waffle (the best part, nice and fluffy and flavorful even without syrup. Not worth $8 though). The restaurant was 1/3 full with 4 waitresses working, but we were constantly waiting for everything. Waiting for butter, the check, boxes and water never refilled (20% tip????). The gentleman that brought our food to the table, had a nasty attitude because I asked him to move the very large condiment caddy since all of our plates wouldn't fit. And last, but not least take the aux from whatever man in the kitchen keeps playing the same Isley Brothers song!!! Who hurt you sir???? Will not be returning....

Yelp
This review is long overdue! My husband and I absolutely love dining at Augie's Café Breakfast Bar Edgewood location. The staff is always so welcoming, and the food is consistently delicious. On our very first visit, I was impressed with how Terry, the manager, and the entire team gracefully handled an unexpectedly large crowd that came in to celebrate the Islamic holiday, Eid. Despite the rush, everything was managed with professionalism, and the food was just as perfect. I've already been back three times, and each visit has been just as enjoyable. Augie's Café Breakfast Bar has truly become one of my favorite spots!

Yelp
Loved this spot. Friendly service. The music.....took me back down memory lane..love the album covers on the wall. The food was great... Got the chicken and waffle. The waffle needs no syrup it had a great taste. The chicken was crispy. Pancake, eggs and bacon was good. I'm sure the pancakes had crispy edges but not with take out. I had to try a side of grits and potatoes. The grits were tasty but the star was the potatoes!! I could eat those everyday. We kept saying how can this be so good it's just breakfast food. If it's this good with takeout (takeout can be tricky) I can't wait to go back and dine in. Only thing I will say is I don't think take- out should be automatically charged 20%. And even if they keep that it's still misleading bc as you're moving through the screen there's an option to select tip. Thanks yelpers for advising me that every ticket is charged 20% automatically or they would have gotten 40%. That really needs to be addressed. With all they are doing well that is a huge misstep.

Yelp
This spot has become my little go to breakfast and brunch spot on the Eastside of Atlanta. Located in the Edgewood retail and shopping district it's the perfect addition to the many lunch and dinner type of eateries already located in the area. The ambiance is a mix of a southern dinner and (if your from the south) your grandma's kitchen. The service feels like neighborhood country club iykyk. Now to the most important part: Plenty of parking (my personal fav) Best time to come: weekdays as it gets packed on the weekends You seat yourself Yes they serve alcohol and their mimosas are devine

NaTasha G.

Yelp
Great food and service. Chicken and waffles were delicious! I had the french toast and was very good. Mimosas were also good.

Yelp
ordered online so I've never actually been inside but the food is great and nicely portioned! I'd come again. fast service!

Yelp
After all these years of waiting to try Chicken and waffles, I came to the right place!!! The chicken was so tasty and juicy and the waffle was perfect!!! The pancakes were also outstanding, fluffy and moist, with a little bit of a crispy crust. The music themed atmosphere with classic songs playing in the background made you feel at home, and our server Eboni was friendly and attentive. Definitely worth taking a trip from NY once again to enjoy a great breakfast!!!
google avatar

Rhonda C.

Yelp
Great food, fast service and attentive waitress, not crowded. I had a breakfast burrito with shrimp and it was soo flavorful. Everything was seasoned to perfection. I was able to get in and out no issues and I must reiterate...the breakfast burrito was DAMN delicious.

Yelp
Went on a holiday Monday afternoon for a casual brunch. Upon entering, someone taking orders at the register let us know they had been busy, and there would be a short wait to take our orders. We were encouraged to seat ourselves, so we had to find a table without dirty dishes. Shortly after we sat, we placed our orders. The wait time for the food was fine but service was slow for it to be a few parties dining at that time. It wasn't the best presentation, however we enjoyed our food. My catfish and grits had good flavor. I may potentially try this place again. Giving the benefit of the doubt on the service and experience since it was a holiday on my visit.

Celsey T.

Yelp
Outstanding, from the service to the food. You are greeting with smiles and kindness that makes you feel right at home. The food is unbelievably delicious and so flavorful. The music and vibe created the perfect Sunday morning atmosphere. Would recommend everyone try this place.

Yelp
Ambiance: cramped seating Service: friendly but extremely slow. We witnessed a couple of tables complain and walk out stating that they've waited over an hour for their food. In our case- walked in and seated at 1:06p...didn't get our drinks (coffee and tea) until 1:32p...ordered when we got our drinks but the food didn't come out until 2:18p. The fries that came with the vegan philly actually came out later (2:30p). The waitress said they accidently gave our fries to another table so initially she brought out collard greens instead. My husband asked her if there was meat in the collard greens since he is vegan (hence the reason why he ordered the vegan meal). She said no meat. As he was about to eat it, he noticed something that looked like meat so he asked again and she said "no meat that's just turkey". He let her know that turkey is meat and that he is vegan so he didn't want the collard greens. so that's when she put in another order for the fries that was originally supposed to come out with the order. I'm not sure if they were short staffed or if it was because a few of the servers were literally sitting down and chatting with a few of the customers, even saw a waitress drinking in the back kitchen area. Also something to be aware of is that there is an automatic 20% gratuity regardless of service or party size. Food: overall ok. the prices are pretty comparable to what one would consider "brunch" prices. the vegan philly was dry and the bread was hard to chew. the shrimp and grits were good but the portion size was small. the coffee tastes burnt and old. the fries were good.

Yelp
Had a nice morning brunching with old friends. We enjoyed the vibe and food. Each dish is named after a R&B song and let me tell ya, you can't help but sing a little "diddy " when you reach each title. The spot is small but there is plenty of parking. It used to be the Korean fried chicken spot. We enjoyed everything and the staff was very attentive and accommodating.

Yelp
Randomly chose Augie's for brunch today given the reviews via Google. I'm so happy we did. EVERYTHING was good. From the greeting to service to the food to the cash out. The food was made fresh in what I believe is considered an open kitchen. The fruit on my French toast was literally how I like it with a bit of bite. The eggs were fluffy and dare I say I was envious because goodness I'd love to master the texture these had at home. The bacon was perfect. I got the fish and grits to go and at home I mean the grits are found to do what grits do when they set. The fish was great still crispy with a ton of flavor and seasoning. Service here was impeccable the restaurant was clean and the music was just right volume wise. The playlist was hitting. I was surprised the place wasn't packed but it was the 4th of July and apparently there's a race and people being out of town. If you get the chance to go to Edgewood and can stop in do so. I'll definitely be back and recommend it to my tribe.

Yelp

Yelp
We visited on a Sunday around 1pm and was promptly seated. They had a steady crowd. The staff was friendly. There was a little wait for food but it seems everything is cooked fresh so didn't mind the wait. Food was very tasty and flavorful.

Yelp
The food was fabulous...although they were short staffed and service was slow....the waitress was wonderful and the entire staff made it worth it ...I will definitely be back

Yelp
The food was SUPERB! The service was sooo kind and laid back. The ambiance is so cute. Not a huge place but cute and comfy and don't get me started on the old school music! The menu has so many options and all options are names of different songs! Love!! I will definitely come back! Hats off to the chef because AMAZE BALLS! I will definitely be back and I'm inviting more folks!

Yelp
The food is really good, I got the chicken, mac n cheese, greens, and cornbread which was a bomb 10/10. We also got waffles, French toast, and the steak. All was good. The only reason they don't get a five star is because the wait time is long. There was times we were waiting on a table and tables were open. They don't have a hostess and it look like just one person busting tables. If they can do a better job with sitting the tables better they will be great.

Julia

Yelp
The food was spectacular!!! We came at like 1:30, the place was still pretty busy and we got our food in a timely manor and our waitress was so sweet!! I'm from out of state but this place is a total do-over next time I'm in ATL :-) very cute and cozy interior decor, super cute spot tucked into this shopping center it's located at :-) also still cannot say enough about the meal omg I felt like a British person eating American food for the first time lol we don't have grits in CA and this was not my average breakfast but it absolutely did not disappoint.

Deirdre J.

Yelp
Food was amazing and the vibes in this place is so nostalgic!!! Love the environment and the people that work there. The service was very welcoming definitely check this place out

Yelp
The food is amazing! The vibe is chill. If there are any issues, they are quick to correct it.

Yelp
I decided to come here because I was in the area and based off the reviews it seemed like it would be a good fit. Upon the entry I could feel the warm vibes of the establishment as I was greeted promptly as I made my way to the bar seating. The first thing that I noticed how spotless the establishment was, which is always a plus in my book. I was in the mood for a traditional breakfast, however everything just sounded so good. I had the pleasure of being served by the owner and she recommended the salmon over grits "Off the Wall" as I was deciding between a few options. I ended up going with the "Off the Wall" which is grilled salmon over grits in a spicy parmesan sauce. I am not even a grits type of girl, but it was definitely calling me this day. I also ordered a side of scrambled eggs. My food came out quickly, and my salmon was cooked to my liking which was a medium. The sauce that came on the dish was very good, not too spicy but just a tad bit salty for my taste buds. However, I am learning that food in Atlanta is a bit saltier than in New York City where I reside. That aside, the grits were creamy and smooth and the eggs were fluffy like I like them. I really wanted to finish the whole plate but I was so full halfway through the meal. I would've taken it go but I wasn't sure how grits would reheat. There are so many other menu options that I would love to try during my next visit, because honestly everything sounded so good. I would have loved a mimosa to round off my meal, but unfortunately they did not have their liquor license at the time of my visit. Hopefully, next time they will. All-in-all, I definitely recommend you come check out Augie's Breakfast Bar, now and not later!

Yelp
My friend stumbled upon this spot while going to the Verizon store. Seeing as we were hungry, we decided to check it out. Let me tell you Augies did not disappoint. I mean from the minute we walked in the staff was extremely friendly. The young lady suggested her favorites from their menu and gave us time to decide. The music was great, but the food was to die for. My friend ordered the salmon and grits while I choose the catfish and grits. We got a side of French toast, and eggs. It was like love at first bite the flavors kept coming. I one hundred percent recommend this place for anybody in the Atlanta area. It is a must stop for me and my friends. I mean I I think I'm going to make a reel that's how good it was. Best of luck to this black owned establishment!

Desiree T.

Yelp
Food was ok. Service was ok. Ambiance was so so. I don't like the fact that there was an auto 20% gratuities added. Suppose I didn't want to tip that much for sone reason? Or if wanted to tip more oh well you locked yourself into 20%! I'm done with this place.

Michael S.

Yelp
Food was 10/10! Fast service at peak time-Noon. We had the catfish and grits and French toast. The side of greens with the catfish was perfect. Staff all friendly and helpful. Played the best music too!

Tyrah H.

Yelp
So I stopped by Augie's breakfast bar on my 30 minute lunch break. I'm so glad I had the right mind to order before my break started because it took 40 minutes for the food to be ready. I thought 20 minutes is ample time for a breakfast sandwich. I was wrong. The kitchen and the host stand are in the same area so as I'm asking about my sandwich, I hear the chef say oh I can go ahead and throw that on the manager says no we're holding up the kitchen for 20 minutes. The chef says oh it's just a sandwich I can do this really quickly, but the manager never comes and updates me. Yes I can hear y'all but the proper thing to do would be to let me know that it's coming up. Then I get the sandwich and it's sausage links cut up on a biscuit. Every time I take a bite the sausage is falling out. And the space is small. But that's the usual in Atlanta.

Yelp
I decided to try Augie's for the first time this morning with my boyfriend. I was excited and expected the food to be amazing and worth the 45 minute wait. Ehh. It was just okay. The eggs and grits were bland. I had expected more and was disappointed. I ate most of my pancakes (and 1 strawberry) without being served any syrup or condiments, which it needed. (I normally don't have to add syrup and seasoning to my food). We have enjoyed better elsewhere.

Yelp
Decent place, service was good and the food was tasty. The shrimp on the grits had a great flavor. Very reasonable prices.

Yelp
I have an amazing experience every time I order take out. Today I dined in for a birthday brunch with a friend, absolutely disappointing. Asked for an omelette, messed up and put peppers I did not order . Manager had to go buy eggs cuz they ran out. Re made it. Egg whites runny Mushrooms crunchy. Put spring mix in it, didn't order that. Spinach was raw. Missing sausage. ...and there's egg shell pieces in it. I had been there 45 mins. So I asked for a box and ended up microwaving at home to finish cooking the veggies. Didn't offer a discount or comp. I'll just stick with French toast to go from now on.

Yelp
C'mon Yelp. Decent breakfast, pricey, mediocre food, service, everything. Coffee was ok, but when I asked for cream, I got coffee mate. You can do better.

Yelp
I first visited Augie's Breakfast Bar back in June when they first opened this location. I was randomly in the area in search of breakfast food and this place popped up so I decided to stop by. The food was amazing and I loved the service. Today was supposed to be my second visit and I was really looking forward to sharing the great experience I had the first time with my friend visiting. Upon entering we were greeted by the cook who told us to sit wherever we like. After taking our seats on the patio. It took about 10-15mins for us to get water from the "busser" who didn't say anything else upon approaching the table. My friend asked could we place our orders with her to which she replied "the server would be right over". The server never came. Needless to say after making it through the next 5 songs on the old school R&B playlist they had on repeat we decided to leave. No one said anything to us on the way out.
