Where To Eat Outside In Jersey City & Hoboken

"On the distressed brick walls inside Augustino’s, there are old mirrors, customized Devils jerseys gifted from the team, and pictures of The Hoboken Four, which included the owner’s father until he was replaced by Frank Sinatra. While you won’t see them from tables on the new sidewalk patio out front, you’ll still experience the main reason this place is a Hoboken classic - huge portions of delicious Italian food, like gnocchi bolognese and pork chops braised in vinegar and hot peppers." - hannah albertine, nikko duren, matt tervooren

The 20 Best Restaurants In Hoboken 2024

"There are lots of old-school red sauce joints in Hoboken, but Augustino’s is the best. The cash-only spot does all of the Italian American classics right, from Sunday sauce to linguine and clams to calamari to veal parm. The exposed brick walls and warm lighting set the stage for a romantic date, but you could also take your parents here for a meal that neither feels fussy nor too laid-back. Whatever you do, order the killer ice box cake for dessert. This is one of the toughest tables in Hoboken (in part because there are maybe five of them), so make sure to call ahead for a reservation. 17 Luxurious NYC Restaurants to Woo a Client | Eater NY

"Epic restaurateur Keith McNally’s business district venture in the Beekman Hotel features all of his signatures: glowy gold lighting, red banquettes, and classic French bistro fare. Best of all, Augustine doesn’t feel like a FiDi restaurant, which is why it’s the ideal setting for a client meal. Avoid the too-pricey steakhouses that dominate the neighborhood and instead opt for steak tartare, rotisserie chicken, or dry-aged strip." - Paul Schrodt

Best chicken parm of my life, sauce, chicken, cheese, pasta, just insanely good. “Sunday sauce” rigatoni dish also incredible with the meat set aside. Fra diablo lobster tails and mussels with linguine also perfectly spicy and ridiculously good. The bread is freshly baked and just crazy delicious. The ice cream “affogato” dessert was amazing. I think the key is the best red sauce you’ll ever taste in your life. Denise at the bar made us feel like we were eating at home. All the one star reviews are people who just don’t get how these small family style places operate. Be on time and bring the cash, and be very polite, like you’re visiting your Italian grandma, not eating at Il Mulino. If you love incredibly good Italian food and want that “home style” atmosphere and cooking (and don’t mind putting on a couple pounds) this is the place. Definitely worth the trip from Manhattan.

Google
This place is a Hoboken institution and a throwback to the good old days of cash only and family owned Italian joints in Jersey. Service is great and the vibe is too. The table is hard to get but if you call they usually have some last minute cancellations or tables earlier in the night. You can also try to sit at the bar. The food, is classic red sauce options. I must admit though was a little disappointed in everything but the shrimp in garlic and wine sauce, which was sublime. We also had the pork chop, chicken parm, chicken piccata, meatballs , and carbonara.

Google
Best Italian restaurant in Hoboken! I called a week in advance and got a 5:30 reservation on a Monday. The ladies that work here are very sweet and helpful! Can’t wait to go back. The gnocchi bolognese was our favorite and we inhaled Buddy’s lasagna. Don’t miss the ice box cake for dessert.

Google
Review for Augustino’s – Disappointing First Impressions That Matter Bottom line: We were foodies that came far to visit. We did not like how you were saying it, how you were laughing — it was weird! Unfortunately, our experience at Augustino’s was not welcoming. As first-time walk-in guests, we were surprised by the cold and somewhat intimidating reception from the front staff. While I understand every business has its policies, how they’re communicated matters just as much as the rules themselves. The approach taken came off as harsh and uninviting rather than informative or friendly. It might help if a more approachable staff member—perhaps someone with a naturally warm demeanor—handled guest interactions. First impressions shape the entire visit, and this one set a negative tone before we even sat down. Also, the policy around card vs. cash payments felt unnecessarily rigid. A small discount for cash-paying customers might ease that, but better still would be clarity and kindness when explaining these rules upfront. We walked quite a distance to try this place, so the letdown was more than just minor. A bit more hospitality and flexibility could really go a long way—especially for new visitors. Feedback like this may seem small, but over time, repeated experiences like ours will affect the restaurant’s reputation across platforms.

Google
Food - average. Service - we arrived for a 6:30 reservation - our wedding anniversary, I sat down, then was asked to move to a different table - all while my husband was parking the car. He walked in at 6:45. At this time we were told we couldn't order anything on the bone/ sauteed on the bone because we were late and wouldn't have time. We were rushed to order everything else. At the end - we were done 15 min early. It was the most unpleasant, sit down, big important date celebration I have ever experienced.

Google
Went there for the first time for my wife's birthday tonight. It was like it was our regular Friday night place. We felt like it was home, except the food was so much better. Outstanding!!! If there were 5 more stars, I'd fill them all in. Hands down, one of the best dining experiences we've had. I can't wait to go back.

Google
This place is amazing - very delicious food, very nice ambience and vibe. It is quite small so you should make a reservation in advance - walk ins can be difficult simply because there isn’t much space. The food is absolutely amazing - definitely check it out!

Google
I can’t believe that I lived in Hoboken for 10+ years without ever going here. It’s fantastic. The second I walked though the door, I knew by the aromas in the dining room, I was in for a night of good food. We (thankfully) got to taste everyone’s dishes and everything was exceptional. Veal picatta, chicken parm, lamb chops and GIANT veal chops were all so flavorful and well prepared. We also had the juiciest meatballs and the calamari (and its tomato sauce) was the best I’ve ever had. Great servers with sass! Make a rez and go.

Yelp
Been dying to come here but reservations can be difficult - mostly because it's a very small place. Best way for last minute reservations is to follow the Instagram page and they'll post on their story for last minute openings. Food was great! It's very "nonna home cooked dinner Italian". The chicken parm is a must have, the meatballs were very good, I personally loved the fried shrimp with spicy marinara and the breaded pork chop was definitely worth it. It's cash only and the food comes out quick. Service was attentive and gives the old school Italian "no BS" vibes.

Yelp
Called for last minute reservations and we got them. Also have gotten takeout. I like the lasagna (think it tastes even better as leftovers) and chicken parm. Tried the veal marsala and didn't like it as much as the other dishes. The farfalle with spinach, prosciutto, garlic and oil is so good. They welcomed my toddler although it is best if you come prepared (booster seat as there is no high chair).

Yelp
Love Augustinos! Live in the neighborhood and having been coming to see Sharon, Denise and the gang and last night for a holiday dinner did not disappoint. We recommend this place to anyone who wants the best Italian in the area and will definitely come back. See you in 2025!

Jason B.

Yelp
One of the best Italian restaurants in the country (and I've had a lot of Italian food). The spicy marinara sauce is truly first class, the service is great -- and I highly recommend the bar as well as Denise it the best!

Yelp
If you're not a celebrity don't come here. Food is not with the hype. Go to Laico In Jersey City. Will never be back.

Yelp
We came here the day before Valentine's Day and this place had the cutest valentines theme decor! Ambiance - cozy, rustic - red balloons and other Valentine's Day decor added a romantic vibe - small dining area so you typically need to make a reservation to get a spot Service - waiter patiently explained the menu and even gave us a free icebox cake because it was our first time here - food came relatively quickly Food - fontina cheese in carozza - this is an Italian grillled cheese! The sandwich was split in half for us. The cheese was so melty and delicious - chicken parm- this portion was huge!! Cheese was melty and covered the chicken parm. Marinara had a fresh flavor and the penne was cooked perfectly aldente - ice box cake- light chocolate flavor and has a spongy texture. Delicious!

Yelp
Finally came here last night. Moved to Hoboken when I was 1 in 1987, lived here my whole life besides a few years in Boston for college, and had somehow never been to Augustino's. One reason I had never been is due to the difficulty in getting a table. A few times in the past I had called thinking I could get a same-day table and wasn't able to. Good things come to those who wait. Called on a Tuesday during the day and got a call back a few hours later to lock in a 2 person reservation for the next day at 6:30. Food was exceptional. We started with the soft-shell crab francese and the burrata, and both were delicious. That francese sauce was some of the best I've ever had, and both apps tasted freshly made to order and portions were solid. As far as the main courses, I got the veal parm and my wife got the lasagna. Both were delicious. My veal was cooked perfectly, came out piping hot, and the sauce was excellent. Would have liked a little more pasta under the cutlets but that's a small gripe. I tried my wife's lasagna and the ricotta cheese tasted incredibly fresh. Both portions overall were very large, even with my comment about wanting more pasta. Drinks were well made, and service was prompt. I see some negative comments about the service, but I felt it was good. Place is busy, and they do a good job attending to each table refilling drink orders and clearing plates. Overall I plan to come back soon and recommend you give it a try.

Yelp
Another fantastic meal at Augustinos! They never disappoint. Have been consistently putting out the best Italian in the area for years! Every time we go back we are welcomed warmly by Christine and Sharon. We started with shrimp marinara and shrimp franccaise. Both were delicious. The linguine and clams and zuppa di pesce were terrific!the chicken parmigiana is still the best around. Can't wait to go back again!!!!

Yelp
Great atmosphere. Amazing food. And the staff is the like family. If you're looking for a special night in Hoboken you got the right place.

Yelp
Wow living in Hoboken for years and finally went to Augustino's - such wasted time!!!! Why didn't I come here sooner??? Best Italian food in Hoboken hands down. Already trying to figure out when to come again. Tips and thoughts: - Meatballs were the best I've ever had. A recommendation from the server. They were soft like butter, yet so moist and tasty - Chicken parm was great. Cutlets were thin. Sauce was great with a touch of sweetness. Pasta was perfectly cooked - My husband had veal Milanese (no judgement) but he said it was also the best he's had. The arugula salad on top was dressed and not just thrown on the plate. Veal was thinly breaded as well - Icebox cake was a great ending. Light yet fulfilling. Overall the hype of this place is real. Make a reservation. Bring cash. We came here in January and they were already filled for Valentine's Day and pretty much all Saturdays. Plan in advance. OR walk in at 5:00pm on a Tuesday night (like we did) and hope you get lucky. Stop waiting. Call them now.

Yelp
Excellent food. Love this place. I highly recommend the lasagna. It's incredible. Don't forget dessert!

Yelp
We came to Augustinos with a reservation on a Saturday. It's small and charming with New Jersey Devil's jerseys hanging up. The restaurant feels like it's been in Hoboken for a long time: which is somewhat true, about 30 years. Many people comment on the service being rude however, knowing this ahead of time helps manage expectations. I don't think they were rude, they were busy and just being themselves. Our waitress was very nice and very attentive. They are always looking to see if they can clear plates, fill up water and replenish wine. For food, they do have vegetarian options but if you're vegan it's difficult: cheese. If you don't have any food hang ups - its great. Our party had the following: - Gnocci - Stuffed Artichoke - Broccoli Raab - Shrimp Augistine - Scallop Special - Chicken Parm - Vegetarian Pasta Pomodoro - Vegetarian Bowtie Pasta - Bread - Icebox Cake I enjoyed the two vegetarian pastas - they will provide half portions no problem. The broccoli raab and icebox cake were also very good. I heard the Chicken Parma and Pork Chop were excellent. Wines are very reasonable as well. It's cash only and to get reservations you kind of have to go there and negotiate: basically take what you can get. Seating at the bar is available but there are regulars who may occupy seats. Apparently Bon Jovi loves this place as well as Chris Christie. Some of the main tables are also never available because they're almost permanently reserved. I would definitely go back: you get a friendly family vibe from the restaurant and if you keep your expectations open you'll have a good and unique experience. Don't expect them to be looking for a Michelin rating or to try and impress you: they have a good restaurant, good food and they manage it their way.

Yelp
Finally was able to get a reservation at this very popular Italian spot in Hoboken. The experience did not disappoint. Went for a birthday celebration with a group of seven. The place is a little tight but cozy. Service was excellent. But the real star of the show is the great authentic Italian food. Pork chop is excellent. I had chicken parmigiana, which was outstanding. Will definitely try to get here often.

Mary G.

Yelp
Adorable Italian restaurant in Hoboken. Small...reservations are recommended and they only take cash. Great staff and excellent chicken parm.

Yelp
After eating my way through Hoboken over the last 10 years, I FINALLY made my way to Augustino's. Let me tell you I'm so sad I didn't come years ago. This place feels incredibly homey and comfortable - like you're at grandmas house. Reservations are a MUST as there's only a handful of tables. Also worth noting it is cash only. Some of the must try things here are the chicken parm and the icebox cake. I'm still thinking about this cake as I write this review. Besides that, we shared the mussels and the shrimp marinara for apps. The sauce was delicious. Great for sopping up with the bread. I had the sunday sauce special which came with what felt like a pound of meat. All delicious. Can't wait to come back here again.

Yelp
I can't believe I have never left this gem a review. This is one of our regular spots in Hoboken and my FAVORITE Italian restaurant in New Jersey. The food is so fresh and no matter what you order, it's delicious! Everything is delightful, from the pasta to the fish to the meatballs, and even the complementary bruschetta they bring you at the beginning. They even make great martinis, and they give generous portions too. Not only that, but the service is incredible. From the moment you walk in, you feel like family. Augustinos makes you wish licking your plate was acceptable. MUST TRY!!!

Denise C.

Yelp
Delicious!! I ordered the Sunday gravy to go for my mom and aunt and they couldn't stop raving about how good it was. The sauce had braciola, ribs, sausage & meatballs. They said the portion size was enough for two. I also ordered the chicken cutlet and it was outstanding! Will definitely be ordering from here again!!

Megan C.

Yelp
Delicious! I was able to get a last minute reservation and the food and service was great! Highly recommend the Cold Calamari Salad, it was probably my favorite thing on the menu. The Artichoke Heart Francese as an appetizer was great too. They also asked if we were still dipping the bread in the sauce before taking the plate away which was something I appreciated! We also got the Spicy Sausage with Hot Grapes and Balsamic sauce appetizer - it was so good and different! For my entree I had the Filet of Sole Piccata with a side of vegetables and it was so light and tasty! For dessert we had the house icebox cake and it was so yummy and comforting. Augustino's is a great staple in Hoboken!

Nicolas S.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I dined at Augustino's for the first time, and unsurprisingly, the food was incredible. We sat at the barand tried a bunch of different dishes, and a special thanks to our bartender, Denise, for making the experience so enjoyable. We'll definitely be back!

Yevgen P.

Yelp
Had the chicken parm, amazing. Small place really cozy great food and service. Love Ashley.

Yelp
The food is just average for what you pay. It is very tight quarters and as soon as you are finished, they rush you out. The waitress was completely rude to my family and I once we finished our meal and tried to get us out before we even finished our second bottle of wine. Cash only, which should be a red flag to begin with. There are many, many other Italian places to go and spend your hard earned money besides Augustino's.
google avatar

Yelp
Augustino's is an old-school, legacy Hoboken establishment. Reluctant to change, they still are a cash only establishment (even throughout the pandemic) and only take reservations over the phone. They don't even have a webpage. Despite this, people still flock here for their traditional Italian cuisine. On a whim, we called on a Monday afternoon to see about a reservation the following day. They had nothing but took down my number and said they'd call if there was a cancellation. Sure enough, Tuesday afternoon they called and were able to fit us in for 7:30 pm. The interior is pretty small - there's maybe about 6 tables for two and then a couple tables for larger parties. They also have a small bar towards the rear of the restaurant where you can sit and eat. They built a fairly large streatery after Covid began but because it was 100 degrees out, it wasn't in use the night we dined there. For food, we shared one of their appetizer specials of the day- hot sausage w/ grapes in a balsamic reduction. It was pretty tasty & different; all of the extra sauce was good for dipping our bread in. For mains, I had the gnocchi Bolognese and my BF had the chicken parm over angel hair (both on their regular menu). We both really enjoyed our dishes and they came out nice and hot. We each left with a decent amount of leftovers. For drinks, I tried one of their special white wines by the glass and a house white. My BF had a Manhattan but it wasn't very good - very watered down. While the food was really good, we were both put off by the service. Our waitress had a bit of a chilly and stand-offish attitude; she seemed annoyed every time we asked a question or had a need. We had the worst table, right in front of the entrance, so it felt like no one regularly came by to check on us. So while I enjoyed the food, it's not somewhere I will rush back to given the various annoyances of having to pay cash, call for reservation, etc.

Yelp
Visited 10/24/2022 Came here with family... and got the best table, right in the window. We'd heard so many good things about Augustino's and as it turns out... everything we heard was true... Everything was excellent. Food, service and ambience. Apps for the table were Caesar and mesculin salads, stuffed peppers with risotto and sausage, sausage with grapes (Wow! I really liked this dish... sweet and spicy. SOOO good! ) Entrées were Sunday gravy with braciole, sausage and meatballs, sautéed porkchops w/ vinegar and hot peppers, a veal chop and a couple other pasta dishes I can't remember. lol. Everything was very tasty... although I would have liked my pork chop to be a little less 'well done.' While tasty enough for me, the vinegar sauce was needed to help make the chops moist and juicy. They were large double chops and there were 2 of them, so there was plenty for a meal the next night. But to be fair... I could have... should have asked for the chop to be served medium/medium rare, so that's on me. Service was excellent... and there was a nice selection of wine and beer. I can easily see why this place gets such good ratings.

Yelp
The hostess who makes reservations is so rude. The first time we called she offered us a Tuesday reservation and when we asked for a weekend, she said, "well that's not what you asked for." Hung up. Second time we called for a reservation she asked if we wanted indoor or outdoor. We asked for a minute to check the weather, and she said, "Hurry up. I don't have time for that." Food is incredibly average and bland. Go to Corto in JC instead for good pasta. Only positive was they let us make any pasta dish vegetarian since it's made to order. The waitress said we could do any entree as a half order. Then we got the bill and they charged us extra for half orders. After ordering, we overheard the same grumpy old hostess say, "Why are they doing half orders? Just pick one!" The entire time, we were rushed and reminded that we had to be out in an hour. The prices on our bill didn't match the prices on the menu either. And why do they only take cash in 2022? IRS needs to take a look at their books.

Yelp
Doesn't look like much when you walk by, but under the red awning it leads to one of the most authentic and loving italian restaurants around. We've been here twice, and the 2nd time solidified Augustino's place in our hearts. We went for a dinner with my in-laws and because we had a larger party size, we luckily were able to order a bunch of different things and sample from everyone's entrées and appetizers. For appetizers, we got a burratta, calamari with hot and medium sauce, the fried cheese, and the fried artichoke. They were all delicious, beautifully seasoned, and fresh. The bruschetta they serve as amuse-bouche is clean and authentic, the olive oil they use is so rich and fresh that you definitely want to keep it to soak up the bread that comes later. For entrees, my husband got the soft shell crab francaise which was a special, I got the angel hair Pomodoro, my daughter got the angel hair carbonara, and my father-in-law got the lasagna special. Everything was simply delicious, and you have to try it all for yourself to understand the beauty that is Augustino's.

Alex L.

Yelp
Spent a lot of money for a rude bartender (Denise) and subpar food. As soon as you swallow your last bite, they show you the door, despite open tables and no line outside.

Francine P.

Yelp
I hosted my husband's birthday party @ Augustino's in Hoboken, NJ All my guests couldn't say enough about what a fantastic evening they had! The restaurant's atmosphere is warm and cozy. The food was excellent. The staff was extremely accommodating . The owner Sharon and her sister Christine were the life of the room! If you have the good fortune of getting a reservation @ Augustino's , take it! You won't regret it! Fran

Kelly M.

Yelp
We've lived here for a few years and are kicking ourselves for not coming sooner! We sat at the bar and Denise was absolutely amazing. She guided us through the menu and made great recommendations for us. We started with the artichoke hearts, homemade meatballs, and clams casino. Everything was absolutely delicious. Then we had the chicken parm, chicken piccata, and carbonara with a side of green beans. We cleared each plate it was so good. For dessert we had the icebox cake and it too was delicious. I highly recommend Augustino's for the food and ambiance, but especially because of how wonderful our server & bartender Denise was. She made us feel so welcome and we had a wonderful dinner because of her!

Yelp
Worth the wait! This is our fourth year in Hoboken and our first opportunity to go to Augustino's. Reservations are tough to come by so I recommend following them on social media as they sometimes post last minute availability. Be sure to bring cash as it is cash only. We started with the meatballs (amazing!) and calamari. I loved the calamari but would recommend a lighter appetizer so you'll have room for each course. My husband had the orecchiette with sausage and broccoli rabe. He was on the fence about picking sweet or hot sausage, and they recommended he get both! Perfect compromise. I had the best carbonara of my life. For dessert, we split the famous ice box cake, and I might want to get this as a birthday cake next year. This truly feels like the perfect old school Italian dinner, and we had wonderful and welcoming service. I would love to come back and see all their Christmas decor in December.
google avatar

Frank T.

Yelp
An insult to Italian food. The "carbonara" is not carbonara, it's Alfredo; there must've been an entire carton of heavy cream in the slop they put in front of me. It was disgusting. Notoriously rude staff. They try to justify is as "their thing," but there is a fine line between wise guy and wise ass. This place is run by a family of assholes.
google avatar

Rachel K.

Yelp
Augustino's food is excellent and my bartender and server were attentive, friendly, and as usual, we felt well taken care of by them. I have been to Augustino's many times: I am not a regular with a standing reservation, but it is a place I enjoy going for special occasions or where I take out of town visitors. Always ALWAYS, people marvel at the food, ambience, and friendly, family like experience. I was treated a little too much like the family who'd over stayed their welcome at a recent visit. The bar is first come, first served. I sat with a friend, ordered cocktails, an appetizer, a salad, two full dinners, a bottle of wine, and had a great meal. We were finishing dinner and the hostess tells us that if we don't order dessert we'd have to give up our seats. We had wine left, so we ordered dessert. The final bite was still in my mouth when we again heard that we had to go. She said it about five times in total. "I have people waiting. You're just sitting there talking." If you're waiting for first come, first served seats, you wait! Everyone knows this! We were finishing and going. We got the message loud and clear. My friend dared to go to the bathroom before we departed and the hostess again berated us for holding the seats. We left, after spending over $200, truly irritated.

Yelp
Food was amazing, and the snarky comments from the waiting staff made it a fun/funny experience. Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Best chicken parm I ever had. The entire experience felt like going to your favorite aunts place. Food was delicious, portions were great, and service was super personalized. Also the dessert pudding cake was to die for. Food was reasonably priced and the wine list had some great selections that were beyond reasonably priced. Will def return !

Yelp
Augustino's is a Hoboken mainstay. It has been here forever and I know why. The food is on point! The chicken parm is a massive portion and is well made. The fontina carrozza is like an italian grilled cheese and works as a starter too. The artichoke franchaise is one of my favorite things to eat. Try it here. My wife got the sole francese and it was also delicious. We sat at the bar which has 6 seats. It is kind of tight but love sitting there. This is a must try if you are in Hoboken. It is a real local's spot and the service shows that. The waitresses/hostess seem like they know everyone! Fun place. Check it out.

Okayyyyy. Okay. I did it. I finally got my reservation at Augustinos. For my brothers birthday, I am pretty sure all he wanted was to go here and get lots and lots of food and wine. That we did! The night started with bottles of really affordable wine. It's NOT byo but that is seriously no big deal because the bottles were really well priced. Appetizers included: Sauteed Broccoli Rabe, mussels in white sauce, fried calamari and a salad with shitaki mushroom and goat cheese. Everything was amazing! Calamari was perfectly crispy, with some lemon I barely needed the marinara sauce. The salad was a special so I am not sure if they have it all the time but I loved the sauteed mushrooms in it and the fried goat cheese was warm and creamy and oh my God I could have stolen them all for myself. The Broccoli Rabe was crunchy and delicious. Oh, also the complimentary bruschetta for the table was something I'd choose over endless amounts of bread I am sure to get full on. For dinner I got the Seafood Marinara because I couldn't decide between a fish dish and a pasta dish. BOOM. Best of both worlds. It was perfectly al dente pasta with a great sauce and all of my favorite shellfish all in one bowl. Shrimp, mussels and clams. Perfect dish. I was stuffed by end but refused to leave a scrap on my plate. It was all that good. The night wrapped up with with some dessert with a candle in it. Hope to be back super soon. P.S. ITS CASH ONLY

Yelp
We visited my daughter yesterday in Hoboken and my daughter and her boyfriend suggested we try this place. I have to say the food is some of the best Italian food I've ever had. We started with scungilli salad and meatballs. Both were outstanding. I then had the single cut sautéed Pork chop which was tender and delicious. It's cooked in long hots so it is very spicy. My daughter had the Chilean sea bass, her boyfriend had the chicken parm and my wife had pasta, all were delicious, service is good, place is small so it's hard to get a reservation but the food is worth making a reservation in advance

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. I live in Hoboken, pretty close by infact, and most of the food here is average. I'm constantly confused why the reviews are so positive. I wanted to believe that because this place is so hard to get into that it would be different. Nope! Same ol story. The food on its own would have deserved 3 stars. Average Italian American food, one dish colder than the other, and I wasn't particularly impressed by the red sauce. So why the 2 stars? I almost didn't even eat here because the woman who answers the phone is so rude. I decided to give it another shot, and the quality of service is largely the same inside. Didn't find their demeanor charming so much as rude. Most of the people that go here seem to be locals that have some type of nostalgia for the place. That or they've never had real Italian food. Also worth mentioning: There's a "sharing" fee if you share your food. You can ask to get half one of pasta and half of another, which is cool in theory. However the waitress told us that it wouldn't be extra to do this, and it was! If you want good Italian go to Corto, it's not that far away. This is just another mediocre Hoboken restaurant.

Yelp
*Take out review only* first time I've been here in the 8 years I've lived in hobo... they are cash only and resi's are super tough so we decided to order 2 veal piccata's to go. The quality/ food was delicious but I was kind of disappointed in how small the serving was at $26 an entree. They also combined the side of Spaghetti into 1 container - kind of weird as we didn't ask for that but all good. I'd be interested in eating IN to see if the experience is better and trying other items- it's a top rated spot in town so I'd like to give them another shot. Maybe I should call now to get a resi for next year ;)

Yelp
Food was delicious. Atmosphere is like an old school Italian restaurant. Heavy wine pours but they could definitely have a better selection of wine.

Yelp
Was looking for Italian food on a busy Thursday night and there was Augustinos . They were very friendly despite being quite busy - the servers are quite entertaining which just adds to the experience. We started off with red wines and Caesar salads - excellent ! The entrees included Spagetti and meat balls and a white pasta dish - again very good. In sum, a solid choice in the competitive Italian food landscape of Hoboken - definitely will be back

Yelp
Augustino knows how to sling some pasta, let me tell you. Best place in town for a good, authentic Italian bite. Always served with a friendly smile. Happy with the food every time. Ciao bello

Yelp
Super packed small restaraunt. The bread they gave was great. But the entrees were not that great. The chicken park was smothered in so much rubbery cheese. And the pasta had no taste.

Yelp
Don't tell my Italian grandmother, but the gnocchi bolognese here is simply the best pasta I have ever had. Light, delicate pasta with rich and flavorful bolognese and cheese.

Yelp
Second time eating here, first time inside. It's quaint and charming, and the food is good. They have a full bar, and decently priced bottles to chose from to pair with your meal. Cash only which can be a blessing or a curse... we save this place for special occasions and always have a nice meal.

Yelp
I went here last night with some friends and I was NOT disappointed. Italian food is a top 2 food group for me and Augustinos made that evident. I called to make a reservation about a week and a half ago and was not surprised when they told me that they have a wait list for reservations every day for the foreseeable future. I put my name and number down and was ecstatic when they called me the day before saying they had an opening. This place, to me, is a classic Italian restaurant. The service was incredible and they really made us feel at home. We asked for recommendations and they did not disappoint. For appetizers we got the fried calamari and clams oreganata. The breadcrumbs on the clams oreganata were to die for! Definitely recommend. I went with the linguine and clams for dinner and it was delicious! I got a side of bread to dunk in the sauce which was very flavorful! Everyone at the table raved about their meals. Their menu is a bit limited, with classic Italian dishes, but they have different specials every night as well. To top of the night we got espresso martinis. It came in a huge martini glass and was one of the best I've had! It had a lemon in it, which I've never seen before and definitely questioned at first, but I stood corrected. Definitely call and get on the waiting list because it's worth it!

Yelp
Cute, small Italian restaurant with friendly service! I recommend making reservations ahead of time (we called on a Saturday around 5:30pm to make a same day reservation for two and got a table for 6:30pm, but I think it was the only option they had and when we got there, it was pretty packed the entire time). Calamari was good and my date liked the veal, but I wasn't a fan of the orecchiette, which was the top recommended dish from the waitress. I personally thought it was a bit undercooked and too oily. They also gave us complimentary bruschetta to start, which was quite tasty! Warning: they are cash only.

Yelp
I've eaten here twice now and both meals have been absolutely fantastic. They are cash only, and if you don't have a reservation, getting seating at the bar is a bit tough since there's maybe 6 seats at the bar total. The whole place isn't very big, but it has a lot charm, with the photos on the wall and the stained glass lamps. Service is awesome, a bit rough and no-nonsense but fantastic. Chicken Parm is a must order, one of the best chicken Parma I've had anywhere. The Sunday Gravy special was also fantastic, and if you see it on the menu, you need to try it. Fried calamari has been perfect both times I've ordered it, and the scallops in a brown butter sauce has been the perfect balance of richness and flavor. The scallops are so tender they're easily cut with a knife. The fried cheese hits all the right spots. I've also tried sausage with a balsamic reduction and grapes, and the st. Augustine shrimp. I've truly not had an item that wasn't delicious. Also the warm bread they bring you allows you to soaked up any left over sauce. For dessert the icebox cake is unique but also a relatively "light" dessert that doesn't sit like a pit in your stomach. Will come back.
