The 38 Essential Mexico City Restaurants

"A new addition to Polanco’s dining scene, Aúna is the most recent project of Quintonil chef Jorge Vallejo, alongside chef Fernando Torres, who oversees the culinary program. The kitchen focuses on traceability and quality ingredients, creating vegetable-forward dishes like roasted tomatoes with black garlic dip, squash blossoms stuffed with mushroom cream, or roasted sweet potato with mascarpone and harissa. Chef Torres’s skills shine through the soft shell crab with red curry and the braised-to-perfection short rib with roasted shishito peppers. Overall, Aúna’s menu is fresh air in Polanco’s oversaturated fine dining scene, complete with a well-curated wine list." - Natalia de la Rosa, Daniela Galarza

Aúna

"Chef Jorge Vallejo delivers the best of both worlds at this two-in-one space where Aúna Café welcomes guests with breakfast and lunch, and Aúna Restaurant invites more serious diners. Enter through a separate door to access the light-filled restaurant where abundant greenery sets a natural tone, and exposed brick and natural elements create a cozy and enticing space. Of course, it's the flavorful, contemporary cooking that takes center stage. Every detail is given the highest regard, and seasonal produce shines in dishes like such as jitomates rostizados and lobina rayada with salsa romesco. Everything is light and delicious to the very end, with a refreshing dessert of piña-coco sealing the deal." - Michelin Inspector

The restaurant was very well decorated and has a zen feel to it, the ambiance was calm and earthy colors, very classy, unfortunately the service was lacking, although well staffed, they weren't well trained, we ordered and "americano" and we got a cocktail?! he didn't even say sorry my apologies, just went to get the coffee, then we mentioned that we didnt' want the chicken to come with bones and from the 2 people who ordered, only the person who specifically mentioned that he didn't want bones in his chicken got it. Very unfortunate for such a nice setup, lots to do in staff training, Chef Jorge. We have been here before for breakfast and it was better, yet nothing outstanding. The menu wasn't presented to us in print, only verbally, which in my opinion is what created a lot of confusion and missed expectations, there were ingredients that we didn't like or want which were included since we weren't offered the menu in print. This being the event of #Amex4Foodies, we've been to 2 other establishments, and they all had a dedicated menu for this event, such a pity as I said.

We had the most fantastic meal here. Service was perfect. English menu available. Food was so exquisite. Presentation gorgeous and the taste and quality of the food was amazing. It was a very memorable experience and also very peaceful and relaxing to be there. Guests at restaurant has class and it was one of those places fog could tell was frequented by people who like good food without paying ridiculous prices. I loved it and felt so happy to have such an amazing lunch. Well done you are an amazing restaurant and I can tell you have put so much love thought and effort into creating an amazing experience for your guests.

This came highly recommended so we decided to visit. Overall, good service and ambience but the food was decent. Not as great as expected. The grilled fish was overcooked and very dry. Duck was good and appetizers were also good. Considering the price and quality of food, may not visit again.

Maybe my new favorite restaurant in all of North America. We had an epic lunch hang for 9 on a lazy Saturday afternoon. Love the laid back vibe - our table in the back was private enough and allowed us to observe the kitchen staff work their magic. Service was attentive but not too eager. All drinks and food on point - the tuna, chicken and beef all favorites. Just do it.

Excellent food, we ordered a bunch of entrees and the roasted chicken and all were amazing. Don't forget to try the mussels they are to die for. Pretty decently priced considering it's by the same chef of Quintonil. The service was great, maybe they hovered a little too much but it was a slow night. Would happily go back again!

Great experience. We had read reviews mentioning it was super expensive and the service was bad so we were unsure. However, everything was great, our waiter Juan is of the highest level of service, additionally, the food was delicious and within the acceptable for that type of restaurants and gastronomical proposal. Overall very good, will return.

Last night I had a transcendent experience at Auna. Let me break it down for you. The vibes. Situated in an Indoor outdoor environment it’s an open kitchen concept where you can watch the chefs make culinary magic. There is a nice buzz from the live cooking, the lively conversation and the trendy music coming out of their sound system. The decor is simple and elegant without feeling pretentious nor underdone. The drinks. I had a pepino mezcalita which was an amazing blend of smoke, sour, and fresh. The green color popped off the light brown table and the beverage warmed up my pallet for amazing eats. The food. The tuna toastsda was the best thing I’ve put in my mouth in 2024. The tuna is flown in daily and was unctuous, fatty and fresh. It was accented with a medley of ingredients (like mustard seeds) that brought an explosion of harmonious flavor in each bite. I savored each bite and grew somewhat depressed when I found my plate no longer held this gorgeous dish. For the main entree I stuck with the sea and had some beautifully grilled shrimp accompanied with a variety of boldly flavored sauces. I ended my night in a sweet note with some beautifully prepared bananas with ice cream. I dined alone and was fully immersed in the experience. Would highly recommend you go to aúna.
