The 38 Best Kuala Lumpur Restaurants | Eater

"If you can’t make it to the neighboring state of Penang, this kopitiam serves homemade Penang prawn noodles (known fondly throughout Malaysia as har meen or heh mee depending on the dialect). Tender, juicy pork ribs are slow-cooked in prawn broth, then combined with rice vermicelli and thick yellow noodles. Fun fact: Although this dish is a famous Penang hawker food, it originated in Fujianese cuisine, which employs lots of braising, stewing, steaming, and boiling. [$$]" - Ian Poh Jin Tze

Saved this spot after seeing it featured on HOCHIAK, but here’s my take after trying a few dishes: 1. Lam Mee – 4/10 This version of Lam Mee felt more like a Penang-style Loh Mee with its dark, starchy gravy... not the clear soup version some might expect. Unfortunately, the flavor didn’t quite hit the mark for me. A bit bland and lacking depth. 2. Prawn Mee – 5/10 The soup had some prawn flavor, which was a plus, but it wasn’t rich or layered enough to make a lasting impression. Just about average overall. 3. Laksa – 5/10 This was actually HOCHIAK-recommended, but to me, it felt quite ordinary. The soup had a light spiciness but didn’t carry the bold, tangy punch that defines a really good laksa. 4. Cham Ice – 6/10 The Cham (coffee + tea mix) was okay—pleasant and drinkable, with a decent balance of flavors. The best item out of what I tried. --- Will I Return? Unlikely. It didn’t quite live up to the expectations set by the show. --- ⚠️ Disclaimer: This review is based purely on personal taste and experience. Unfortunately, the prawn noodles didn’t hit the mark. The broth lacked depth, so I wouldn’t recommend it. The standout, however, was the iced white coffee.

Old relic of Cheras. Gone are the days that their food used to be the staple of Penang food in Cheras. Now it is bland, watery (loss of "gao"ness in their broth) and (lazy?) shop owners that only sits at the cashier 坐着收钱 instead of focusing on food quality

For the price, I expected a more generous amount of noodle and better umami soup. Perhaps if the price is lower then my expectations would commensurate with the taste. In all honesty, is not bad but is just slightly above average compared most prawn noodle. On side note, the lady boss is friendly. There are definitely better prawn mee. Go if you are a big fan of prawn mee noodle

Their signature noodles is prawn mee. It wasn’t the best prawn mee in town but taste is above average. Other than noodles we ordered braised pork rice, pork was braised tender and delicious. Their meat ball is good also. Staff is attentive and friendly. Beverage served is nutmeg drink which is hard to find in KL. I will try their curry noodles next time

The broth of prawn mee is thick and tasty but a bit pricey. We ordered white coffee and milk tea. Quite authentic.

Our 3rd time here. Known for their Prawn mee. Brought my family over for lunch. I was craving for Asam laksa, had a good fix. They had Lum mee, that was average. Auntie Lora said, may take off Prawn mee from the menu, said too much trouble to prep that. Too had, hate to see that go.

Google
Not recommended. As a speciality shop, their food can't even come close to those sold at Kopitiam. The Prawn Noodles (their signature) was just tasteless. I don't go around giving 1 star reviews, but I think this deserves and hopefully they take note. Anyway, we told the lady boss when we left. The Vinegar Pork and the Mee Jawa also fell in the same fate. Taste wise very average. Hopefully they'll look into it and no, not patronising again.

Yelp
They are famous for their Prawn Noodles with Pork Ribs (RM19.8) which was a pretty big chunk to bite, however it was not tender. I thought it was hard to chew. The broth/soup was not bad, it was flavorful but not as rich as I would have liked. We wanted to try their Pork Trotters but it was sold out so we got their Braised Pork (RM9) instead. This was delicious, tender and juicy. I prefer my pork to have more fat but this had more lean meat and they were also generous with the amount of pork served. Next, we got their Assam Laksa, (RM9.9) which was sweet and sour but they only gave a very small amount of fish. In comparison to the photos on the wall, it was not consistent. We also had their Penang Jawa Noodle (RM9.9) which was served with lime. It was not flavorful, I found it flat, watered down and the fried beancurd was not crispy or crunchy. Overall, I have definitely tasted wayyyy better traditional prawn noodles. It is a decent restaurant but this is on the pricier side which is not worth the money to pay as their quality needs improvement.

Yelp
I am a big fan of Prawn Mee and I know how to determine the best one. The one at Auntie Lora Kopitiam is one of the best. The noodle was perfect. Not dry like most other noodle joints and the flavor of the prawn was so rich. Plus, it quite generous with the fillings. All of that just inside a bowl of Prawn Mee. I don't have to describe about the curry. Just look at he photo and you will know how good it is.
