The 15 Best Donuts In Seattle

"Aurora Donuts used to be one of the last remaining Washington Dunkin’ locations, as evidenced by the fuschia countertops and classic bubble font signage. Now, they serve non-commercial donuts worthy of a morning dozen—even though they all still look like Dunkin’ understudies. Among the classics like chocolate bavarian creme, princess-pink strawberry frosted, and cakey buttermilk rings is a standout bacon maple bar. It’s pleasantly light, and the cured pork has polka dots of black pepper that add spice to the sticky-sweet icing." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley, gabe guarente

The Best Doughnuts in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"This combination doughnut/ice cream shop has seen better days, and doesn’t look like much as you whizz by on Aurora. But don’t worry, the doughnuts lining the trays are reliable as they come — classic glazed and cake treats, wonderfully soft with just the right amount of resistance as you bite into them. There’s even an after 5 p.m. special offering six doughnuts for $7, or as we call it the Only God Can Judge Me Special." - Mark Van Streefkerk

Google
Super friendly service and the donuts were incredibly fresh and soft! Even though I went in the late afternoon, they were still perfectly fluffy and not stale at all. I’ll definitely be coming back for more. Highly recommend! Thanks for the bonus munchkins 🙌

Google
Please support this business!! I came in to buy a few dozen donuts to pass out to the community and had a wonderful dialogue with the owner. He definitely overfilled the boxes and gave me a discount on my purchase. Not only was the service amazing, the donuts were wonderful! I actually was on my way to Krispy Kreme when I saw this place and decided it would be best to fund the community vs corporations. Please please please visit this donut shop! I also saw they have deals on donuts after 5pm!

Google
I have been coming here for years now. This place is a hidden gem. 1. The doughnuts are light and fluffy. Super delicious and a great variety. 2. They open at 10am. For those of us who work nights, went out or just slept in, you don't have to wake up at the Crack of dawn to get a good selection. Even the doughnut chains have this problem. By 1pm you're stuck with the basics. 3. Coffee is bomb and bonus they have ice cream too!! But 4th and MOST IMPORTANT... the Family who owns the joint. They are ALWAYS so nice. They remember their regulars and those folks work very hard. The doughnuts alone are worth going. But, knowing you're supporting a local FAMILY owned and operated business is the giant BONUS!! If you haven't, go Check them out!

Google
This place is simple and no-nonsense, it’s old but don’t let that stop you. The donuts are much fresher and tastier than most donut shops in the area, there is a nice variety and the coffee is good and cheap.

Google
I’ve never enjoyed a donut more! So fresh! I wish I knew their secret. Very kind and make you feel at home.

Google
The owners are some of the sweetest and nicest people in Seattle. Great and delicious classic style donuts. The original glazed is amazing as well.

Google
Wow, these Donuts are amazing and on top the owner is just super sweet and friendly. Can recommend this store so much!

Google
The place might look a little run down, but I have found many fantastic food places that look quite unassuming, so don't let the exterior put you off. The donuts are fantastic, and I loved their rocky road ice cream (not too sweet and heavy, and it has a ton of actual marshmallows in it, which is what I love about that flavor). Their donuts are fantastically light and tasted great. The lady who helped me was also very kind, and there is plenty of parking.

Yelp
The woman who appears to own this is just the best! Everytime we come in we leave with more than we order/pay for. She is always throwing in extra for the kids and is so sweet. The donuts are great classic donut shop donuts. We love to stop in for ice cream or on a hot day. Simple ice cream cones with a good selection of flavors. Loving having this place in the neighborhood! The inside is closed for sitting but I honestly don't blame them since activity in the area can be a little weird sometimes.

Yelp
The past five visits have been stellar and mostly on behalf of The Homie. He often receives extra items due their generosity towards high school and college students. Time for an updated post since I find myself often detouring here versus another doughnut shop in Lynnwood. There's a wide variety of doughnuts available, even from mid afternoon until closing. They also offer discounts after 5pm, 5 for $7. There's also ice cream and milkshakes. No onsite seating, just takeout. No surprise with its North Seattle/Aurora location. Go and support this indie, family run business! Increased from 3 to 4 stars.

Yelp
I've driven by this place 100's of times and decided to stop in to see what this place is all about. I had a maple bar and an apple fritter. They were light as air on the inside and sweet and tasty on the outside. I love coming to these old school donut shops! I would suggest putting in an espresso machine because nothing goes better with donuts than a good coffee. Only drip was available... Still a good experience and the donuts were top notch!

Yelp
Great selection of donuts!! My favorite are the honey dipped donut holes, they're delicious, and I could gobble them up by the handfuls. They carry all your traditional favorites from custard filled, chocolate, jelly filled, glazed rings, cake donuts galore! The owner is super friendly. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Came to check out Aurora Donuts this afternoon, Sunday 28 May 2023, and found the food items were take out only. We were still allowed to enter the shop to place our orders. After looking over the donut offerings, I went with a honey-dipped donut (ring) and an apple crumb donut (filled). The total was $3.50, I paid with cash and tipped the change. I also received a donut hole, which I would guess was a honey-dipped as well. The worker at the counter was following COVID-19 protocols and was cordial, a barrier was in place between the worker/baked goods area and the customer area. Both the honey-dipped ring donut and the donut hole were very light and fluffy, the donut hole almost too much so for my taste buds. The ring donut was a little less airy. Honey flavor added sweetness without a sugar taste residue, a nice variation for sweet flavor in a donut. Of the three items, I thought the apple crumb donut (which I found out was a filled donut) was the best of the batch. It had toasted coconut on top and was filled with an apple pie-like mixture. I found it to be a satisfying donut both on its own and as a part of the batch.

Yelp
Still, the best donuts around, but the hours are shifted in the wrong direction. They open at 10:00 a.m., well past the morning commute, and they close at 8:00, well past the dinner hour. Nobody I know gets donuts at 8:00 in the evening. Instead, they should open four hours earlier and close likewise, so better hours for them would be 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 pm. Traffic at 4:00 in the afternoon is heavy northbound, but this shop is on the southbound side. More commuters would rather have donuts early in the morning with coffee rather than two hours past dinner, which is basically unthinkable. Or, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. would also work, but the owner works all day and won't hire any help. Winchell's used open at 5:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m., because that two and three shifts, and they had over 20 locations in Seattle. Not any more. Now it's just the one with mid-float hours. Still, though--the Maple Fritters are indescribably delicious as are the maple bars, my two go-to favorites. Expensive, though, about $20 to $24 a dozen, but the guy will throw in some donut holes for free sometimes if you spend that much.

Yelp
Aurora Donuts is what people think Krispy Kreme is. The donuts here were light, flavorful, and they come in dozens of varieties. The coffee was delicious as well. There's no reason to pay more for the bland greaseball donuts sold at the nearby Krispy Kreme. Go with the smaller business. They'll earn your loyalty with quality.

Yelp
This place is right across my gym so decided to give it a try this weekend. I was a bit skeptical at first but when I looked up their yelp review, I knew I had to try them and super excited about their espresso. However I was told they no longer have that even though they have espresso sign by the door so I wasn't happy about the false advertisement. Other than that, the donuts were above average, I can taste the oil in my mouth but it was still pretty good. There's no dining in the restaurant, after all, it's located right on the aurora strip so I get the reason behind it so the ambiance as you can imagine is pretty quiet in the restaurant. They do charge you $.39 if you use your card for less than $20 so you should take cash with you. Also, they only have drip coffee for purchase so if you are expecting latte or espresso, this place don't have it.

Yelp
I came here just after 5 pm on a Tuesday. No one was in line but the donuts definitely were picked over - not a bad thing though, usually means the opposite! Micky (sp?) greeted me as I came in and was extremely friendly. I took advantage of the 6 donuts for $7 deal after 5PM deal. Although "deal" may loosely describe the price I still enjoyed picking out my donuts and getting Micky's recommendations. When it came time to pick my final option I was stuck between 2 (maple and marble frosted). I asked for her opinion and she just gave me both for no extra charge - so I ended with 7 donuts for $7! Cash is preferable but they do take card ($.39 fee). Ambiance is nothing crazy, expect a traditional donut shop vibe! That being said I will definitely be back!

Yelp
A classic donuts shop! Donuts are always really fresh and super soft. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
This place is a 4 star for now with a potential for 5 star as we need to try more things here. We were in the area so we decided to stop by as I'm still on a mission to try as many donut shop in the greater Seattle as I can and this was on my list :) We came around 9:30 in the morning on a Saturday and it was kinda empty at first but after, the regulars came and there was a small line. There's a small parking lot in front and it looks like they serve ice cream as well. After a lot of debate, we decided on the maple bacon donut, the French crueller, and the toasted coconut. Maple bacon (4.5/5), a little pricey at $3.69 but according to my husband 'one of the best maple bacon donut he has eaten'. The sweet and salty flavor was really balance and I love the extra pepper on the donut. Also light and fluffy. Crueller (5/5). I love cruellers and so I can be picky about which cruellersnare good. And these are good. They are crispy on the outside and sturdy but the inside is soooo soft and air. Most places is too soft and flabby. Toasted coconut (3/5) - this was kinda disappointed compare to the other 2. The inside was filled with Bavarian cream and the shredded coconut are on top but you can't really taste the coconut at all. Its still soft and fluffy though and there was a substantial amount of cream inside. Definitely want to come back to try their other donuts and it looks like they do end of the day sale where you buy 6 donuts for $7.

Joce L.

Yelp
We have been waiting to try this place, heard plenty of good reviews. Both times we had checked the hours prior to coming. They supposedly open at 9am , it's past 10 now and they still have not opened. Please update your hours so people don't waste their time. Thank you.

Yelp
Dare I say, "normal" yeast-raised donuts here. Exactly what I wanted. Not soy-laden vegan crap that I'm allergic to anyway, not fancy, just normal donuts at a normal price, and they were good. Even better, they were still good despite me buying them around 5 pm on a Saturday. The lady that served me was very friendly and threw in some donut holes with my order. She did forget the first donut I asked for, but I don't think I was charged for it. Even if I was, the prices are so reasonable that I didn't notice.

Madi F.

Yelp
Not only are the owners some of the nicest people ever, but the donuts are seriously the best I've had! Their plain old fashioned are my favorite, and they definitely know how to get you to come back the next day for another one with how they remember each regular and seem excited to see them! As long as we live in this area this will be our go-to treat place.

Jared V.

Yelp
Good doughnuts, good price. Especially recommend the lemon jelly filled doughnut, it's worth a try!

Yelp
The Dunkin' Donuts of Seattle! Good selection at 12pm on a Thursday, their hours are different than what Yelp says so check if it's later, they currently close at 6pm most days according to the sign. 3/5 on the apple fritter. Good flavor and visible apple chunks, but lacking in the crispy edges and firmness I desire from my fritters. Nicely balanced swirled in cinnamon. A classic fritter without the crisp. 4/5 for the Boston Kreme. I think it's safe to say it's a Dunkin' Donuts Boston Kreme, but in Washington state! They even called it that! This place definitely used to be a Dunkin' Donuts back when they still existed on the west coast since there is posters left from those days. Small donut with a good firm frosting, good dough, good pudding like filling. The classic Dunkin' Boston Kreme.

Barbara M.

Yelp
I stopped in at my donut shop & went home with four donuts. Here is my story: Four tasty donuts sitting in a sack. She took just one, then put half back. The half soon was gone. No one saw it go. Three tasty donuts were there in a row. The camera flashed as she took a pic. Two went back in the sack. That was quick. Sometime over night a half disappeared Next morning just one remained, as feared "Oh my", she said. "That donut looks sad." She ate it fast so it wouldn't feel bad.

Layne D.

Yelp
Solid donut place! Stopped by after seeing the great reviews and decided to try out a half dozen. We tried vanilla frosted (a raised donut that ended up being filled with custard), raspberry filled raised, cinnamon cake, chocolate and peanut cake, and chocolate sprinkle cake. I really loved the cinnamon cake donut. I normally lean towards raised donuts these days, but this one was very good. The raspberry filled and vanilla frosted were very good. The peanut and sprinkle topped cake donuts were okay. It was a bit hard to tell with certain ones if they were cake or raised so definitely ask if you aren't sure. Friendly service. I would come back!
google avatar

Marie B.

Yelp
Donuts were way too sweet, sugary and cold when we came in at 9am. I will not return, the old fashioned was different than any I've ever had and it taste like the grease used was old.
google avatar

C O.

Yelp
I have been craving a donut for the last few days and I'm so glad to have found this place. The gentleman behind the counter couldn't have been nicer and the donuts were sooooo good! I live in Capitol Hill but would gladly make the trek back here again and then this time buy a dozen.
google avatar

Nina H.

Yelp
Stopped by to grab a bunch of donuts to bring over to a friends house, and the lady running the shop was so sweet. She heard that I was feeding kids the donuts and she threw in a bunch of freebies! Love the assortment and variety of donuts. Hoping to try the ice cream when it's warmer out.

Michael M.

Yelp
My regular donut shop was closed, so I gave them a try. I was disappointed. The donuts are small and kind of plain tasting. Krispy Kreme is only 10 blocks away a nd better use of money. I'd recommend this place only if you need a serious donut fix. Otherwise, there are better places.

Mohamad D.

Yelp
This is the first time I visited this place.. the staff were nice but the donuts were not fresh and small in size compared to other places with the same price range! The packaging was not suitable for donuts (paper bag with no napkins ) and my donuts were ruined by the time I opened the bag! One more thing, they charged me 0.39 cents for using my card to pay and you have to hand them the card to pay for your purchase which is not preferred in 2024!

Sarah H.

Yelp
I love this shop, the donuts, and the owner of the shop. She is always friendly and throws a few extra donuts in the bag every time I go in.
google avatar

Alyah V.

Yelp
Fairly priced and I enjoy the donut with the apple filling quite a lot, the person at the register was kind of enough to give me cinnamon donut holes for free. the bubble gum ice cream was like a 7/10, the bubble gum in there aren't quite gummy as I would like it though, it kind of just breaks into powder in your mouth.
google avatar

Marlowe C.

Yelp
I thought I would try this doughnut shop. I had two glazed and a chocolate glazed. They were not the best doughnuts I had not even the average doughnut in a grocery store deli. I had to pay with debit and was told I have to charge a 39 cent fee for debit/ credit. Who carries cash now a days honestly. I want be back for sure charging customers to patronize a business ?

C H.

Yelp
Great donuts, lady at the counter was so nice to us and we were very happy with our experience!
google avatar

John T.

Yelp
Do you want to have a delicious artisan-made donut at a reasonable price? It's not all film-flam of bacon or Cocoa Puffs or whatever, just a good danged donut. This is your place. They are fresh made, delicious, and reasonably priced. Not a mechanized chain. Each one a handmade ring of deliciousness. And they gave me a surprise! I got home with a baggie of a donut for me and for my partner and discovered that they gave me the hole as well! Such a pleasure to get a nice surprise. That service piece was great. Ambiance-wise, it's in a dodgy stretch or Aurora, so don't hang out. Get your donut and then go enjoy it!
google avatar

Irene C.

Yelp
If I lived closer, I'd be here a lot! Love supporting local gems. The sweetest woman helped me today and even threw in a few extra donut holes for me! Will def come back whenever I'm in the area.

Olinda M.

Yelp
This review is only from the cruller and the apple fritter. Cruller was ok, but OMG the apple fritter is GOLD! Blows Top Pot, DOnut Factory, Countryside (in MLT)etc out of the water. Fritter is light, airy, not greasy...I will return for this alone. They are taking cash only for now due to a problem with their cc machine. Wish they were open much earlier than 8:30 on the weekdays so that I could stop in to bring some in to work.

Mindy M.

Yelp
Highly recommend!!!!!! These donuts are way better than Krispy Crème will ever be. Reminds me of the ones I would get as a child. Great selection and very sweet people working there. Please support our small businesses.
google avatar

Jonny M.

Yelp
We'd read good things about Aurora Donuts so we decided to check them out after dinner. We dropped in on a Saturday evening (around 10:00pm). The lady working the front had to come unlock the doors for us. Funny enough, a couple more people came in after us for some late night eats. They have doughnuts and ice cream (along with sundaes, shakes, smoothies and cakes). Doughnuts are $0.99 US (or $1.39 US for the pink labelled). Ice cream scoops are $3.09 US (single) and $5.19 US (double). There's also an after 3:00pm special (6 donuts for $4.00 US) but there's a catch: only valid for the white labelled doughnuts. - Apple fritter ($2.29 US) - Apple crumb ($1.39 US) - French crueller ($1.39 US) - Coconut cream ($1.39 US) - Toasted coconut Can't go too wrong with cheap donuts! 3.5 stars.
google avatar

Marie B. J.

Yelp
Yeah so, I'm an East Coaster and used to cheap coffee joints that hit the spot (service, product and price). I discovered this place not for the coffee (I gave that up a few years ago) but for the donut holes! Where are the damned Dunkin Donuts when you need one? Not here in Seattle - guess its not boujee enough for the passive-aggressive folks out here. Sorry - side rant... Anyway, I come here for the donut holes and to support the API community. I think this is a family owned joint and the service is always good and the prices are acceptable. They also have the best donut holes in town...or at least the only ones I've manage to find so far.

Cadence C.

Yelp
sweet old lady gave us 2 free donuts and an abundance of donut holes. They were all super delicious, as I like to say scrum diddly yum yum!

Elizabeth J.

Yelp
So yummy!! They are very friendly, you just have to be patient, especially in the summer because they usually only have one person working, but it is so worth the wait! If you go after 5 you can get 6 donuts for like $7 or something, I don't remember but it's a great yummy deal. Highly recommend. Also, I have seen a few people be super rude because of the wait, but this is a small family owned business, truly mom and pop so just be kind please.
google avatar

Omar J.

Yelp
Pros- Donuts are so soft and delicious!! Amazing filled donuts. I got the Bavarian, apple pie, strawberry and coconut donuts. All amazing. The lady who attended us was so funny! She has an amazing happy soul. Asian and spoke Spanish. She cracked jokes with us and gave us extra donuts for free. Cons- I don't like the neighborhood we were in... I saw a lot of prostitutes hanging around the streets but it didn't stop me from getting donuts!!! Will visit you again Ms Donut queen!

Liberty F.

Yelp
Very good donut and services are good and ambiance is clean..I definitely come back there..

Don Q.

Yelp
My usual go to donut shop on Northgate Way invariably sells out of their excellent apple fritters but 10 am so I thought I try Aurora Donuts and they had plenty. I was pleased with the crunchiness and found them comparable to my go to shop. Good to know, same good crunch, fresh tasting and priced comparatively. I was not impressed with the price, size and taste of the other donuts we got.
google avatar

Brian W.

Yelp
Great donut shop that has become a tradition for my young daughter, our 200lb dog and I on Saturday mornings. We had some meltdowns (mostly daddy and dog) when they had to close for the COVID-19 epidemic lockdowns, but they are back and as good as ever. Friendly people, great donuts, good coffee and ice cream. Don't let the exterior fool you - these are better than Top Pot and with a better variety. These are not enormous pastries (unless you get the super big raised ring), but they are delicious, light and perfectly done.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
Went here to find a powdered cream donut which was proving difficult with all the "gourmet" donut shops in Seattle. Experience was excellent as I walked in and saw a large selection of all the classics you would expect. They even had 4 different types of powdered cream donuts! I ended up buying 4 donuts for $7.00. They also added 2 free donut holes to my order. Nice! Great taste on all the donuts I ordered. Compare this to some other "mighty" donut shops in Seattle where I got only 2 donuts for $8.00 and you appreciate the vast selection, good taste, and overall value of Aurora Donuts. Now my go-to donut shop.
google avatar

Roshni N.

Yelp
I don't know how they make any money giving so many donuts for free the owners (I think) are so nice and friendly. The donuts were so good that I started eating them while paying the bill, only to be handed 3 more mini powdered donuts for free. The whole place is giving loving grandparents energy.
google avatar

Elliott R.

Yelp
The service is so good! Sometimes they give you extra donuts for free. The owners are so friendly, and I love going there to get chocolate bars, and honey glazed donuts. It's in kind of a crazy location, but it's on a main road, so it's fun to stop by and get some donuts.

Nikki L.

Yelp
Really good donut & ice cream shop. Seriously. I didn't order any donuts, but the owner gave me 5 plain donut balls and wow. I was shocked at how tasty and they were. I also bought bubble gum ice cream and I'de sat it's better than baskin robbins.

Shannon C.

Yelp
Hands down the nicest folks! I love their donuts. Every time I go there I get exceptional customer service and always a variety of yummy donuts. They also serve ice cream and coffee which I always have to get my one scoop waffle cone every time I go. Cheers to the owners and thank you for always being so kind!!!
google avatar

Shaida H.

Yelp
Located on Aurora Ave, I have been wanting to try them for a while but they aren't open early in the morning. Right now, it appears there hours have changed and it's take out only. Besides donuts they also serve ice cream. During my first visit, I ordered two donuts: French cruller and a custard filled with sprinkles. The icing on the custard one was fluffy, almost marshmallowy. The donuts are very soft. Prices are reasonable and they charge 0.39 for a credit card transaction under $20, which I am good with! The service was great and there was a lot of variety to choose from. The cruller wasn't my favorite but I think that is more of a personal taste. Would definitely go back again and try some different donuts and the donut holes.

Niels H.

Yelp
Shopkeep held the door open for an elderly couple and the donuts were fire. We got the managers special and glazed. Simple done right.
google avatar

Ken K.

Yelp
Love the lady that works there. Good selections and good price. Bring cash as she charges for CC payments.
google avatar

Kurt Q.

Yelp
So Aurora Avenue is a thing. Tempted by streetwalkers, massage parlors, and Home Depot, you're in a vestige of old Seattle. But wedged amidst all the "hard wood," is this cute-as-kittens donut shop. A spot of wholesomeness in a track of desperate orphans and addicts. You walk in, and it's, what's the word, homey. The menu is in that 1980s rounded font, there are chips in the tiles, you get the picture. Donuts are actually good, but even if they're not from time to time, the idea of this place is too powerful to ignore. I got the Norman Rockwell feels when the tiny old lady behind the counter gave me extra munchkins for free like I was literally five. Shame on you who are visiting Krispy Kreme a few blocks away.

Yelp
My, oh my! What a wonderful find up in northern Seattle. Nestled in next to a number of other businesses, you will find THE place to feed your sweet craving for that delicious little (or big) treat...the donut! Owned and operated by a lovely family, Aurora Donuts is the perfect stop to grab one...two...six...a dozen donuts! Whatever you fancy, they'll have. Anything from the traditional Old Fashioned, to Powdered, to Glazed, to Jelly or Cream or Pudding Filled you can get. If you've read my other donut shop reviews, you know that I love all things fritters...jelly...and sprinkles! I get my fix here at Aurora and fill that craving every time I'm there. A new one I had this last time was the Boston Cream donut! I'm a huge fan of B.C Pie, so I was intrigued with this Vanilla Pudding and Chocolate Icing charm. It was delicious! The other things that my wife and I love about Aurora is that 1.) their donuts aren't overly sweet, so you don't get the "lump in your stomach gut ache" after eating a couple; and 2.) they don't go stale quickly, so you can enjoy your dozen over the course of a few days. That's of course if you can contain yourself that long! Ha! They also have coffee drinks and an ice cream parlor in house. Coffee I've had ... it's quite good and is the perfect and simple accompaniment to your donuts. Ice Cream we haven't had yet. But if you know me, it's just a matter what of time! I ask, does it get any better than Aurora Donuts? I think not!
