I stopped by AUSSIE because I was in the mood for tacos and saw they had shrimp tacos on the menu. The place itself looked nice, and the iced tea ($2.99) was actually very good. However, the overall experience left me a little disappointed. The restaurant felt unusually quiet inside. There were people there, but the music and atmosphere didn’t match the kind of lively energy you’d expect. The biggest issue was the shrimp tacos. The menu price was $15.99, which I assumed would be for three tacos, which is typical at most places. Instead, I received two very small tacos, each with only three shrimp. There were no sides no chips, no rice, no beans just the two tacos. In the end, that meant paying about $8 per taco for six shrimp total, which felt overpriced for what was served. For that portion size, it honestly felt more like an appetizer and would make more sense priced around $12.99. Other dishes I saw coming out of the kitchen like the burgers and salads—looked much larger and more like full meals, so those might be a better option. If you stop by, my suggestion would be to skip the tacos and try something else on the menu. Austin has plenty of great taco spots where you’ll get much more value for the price

Came here for the Preservation Austin Legacy Business month and was not disappointed at all. Great food, waitresses working super hard and fast. Highly recommend the patty melt and fish and chips. Will be going back!!

Definitely closer to a dive bar. The bathrooms were not great. We came during a lunch rush but I really appreciated the lunch options. This place would probably be a great place to grab a beer.

I've been going to Assies for years since they opened. It's so relaxing and fun in the winter and summeres are wild and crazy outdoor fun!! I gotta say your day bartender is awesome. Can deliver a Beautiful Cocktail with a fun personality and very informative!! Thanks y'all for all the Good times!!

OWNERS PLEASE TELL YOUR SERVERS TO ID! TABC IS NO JOKE! Genuinely horrible! This is not something I’ve ever actually done, but I truly feel an experience like this cannot go unheard. It was my first time there with my friends, and we were so excited.But the service we received was genuinely sad. Started at the bar and the girls working at 6 o’clock on Sunday (Sept. 28th) need to seriously be evaluated for how they talk to paying customers and the one and a half servers (one was still in training) covering 20 people. I don’t fault the new girl at all—this falls entirely on the “trained server” (cowboys shirt) and what I presume to be management?? Our entire table ordered drinks, and we either never received them, or they came out wrong and 40 minutes later. I ordered two frozen strawberry margaritas(only got one), 2 shots, and a burger. Also, for the owners to note—WE WERE NEVER ID’D. Keep in mind, we are a group of college students. Please remind your staff about this. When the bills came out, I knew they would be wrong. Why? Because I’ve been a server before, and I know how overwhelming it can be and mistakes can happen. But the way this team handled me correcting their mistake was HORRIFIC. I went up to the server stand to check the bill and noticed a drink we 100% did not order. I let her know nicely , and she gave me attitude, insisting that’s what we had ordered. I know for a fact my boyfriend wasn’t drinking a spicy margarita because we both hate jalapeños to our core—also I was the one ordering everything when they had insisted HE ordered it. Instead of simply correcting the mistake, the “management” then tried to go behind my back and get my boyfriend to blindly sign the check instead of coming to me directly and yes she walked right past me trying to pull a fast one. And when confronted she told me I was wrong and that she wasn’t voiding it and if you’re reading this and you know who you are COSTUMERS ARE NEVER IN THE WRONG! Completely unprofessional! The volleyball was great, and the place itself is nice, but the service was the worst I’ve ever experienced in my entire life. Owners, if you’re reading this, please take a second look at who you leave in charge of your business. Also please ID YOUR CUSTOMERS! TABC is no joke! It will cost you in the future if you don’t! We could’ve came here underage and nobody would’ve batted an eye. Sadly, I don’t think I’ll ever come back nor will the other 20 people who I came with and the people they tell about this experience…that’s a lot of lost business for a $10 margarita..and it’s solely because of one interaction—with the people you pay to represent you.

Aussie's in Austin, TX, is a well located chill place with a dive bar feel! With its fun, laid-back vibe and ample indoor and outdoor seating, it's the perfect spot to unwind. The boneless wings, especially the buffalo ones, are a solid choice for satisfying your cravings. Plus, the drinks are both delicious and reasonably priced, adding to the overall enjoyment. And let's not forget about the sand volleyball court, adding an extra layer of fun to the experience. Aussie's is definitely a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a good time in Austin!

The patio is great for enjoying the weather. That's about it!!. The chicken wings were under cooked and had an off smell. When I ask if they were fully cooked, server replied, "that's how our lemon pepper wings look". (Sadly I didn't order lemon pepper) The sparkling water from the tap had a slight chlorine taste.

5 stars for our server. She was friendly and attentive. The tv was BLARING but there were lots to choose from to watch. The food was .....meh. I got potato soup and salad. The soup would've been good but it was scalded. I took it with me in case I wanted to drunk eat it after 6th st. Lol that didn't happen. Quesadillas were expensive for what you get. Chips and salsa were very good.

Fun and casual dining to watch some sports, hangout with friends or play volleyball! They have plenty of indoor seatings and also lots of outdoor seating. Came in on a Friday evening for dinner and a Don Rico Tequila cocktail. We sat outside near the volleyball courts to people watch. Special of the day was Fish and Chips for $9.98. Paired that with some chips with salsa and queso. Not bad!

We had an amazing experience at Aussies today when we stopped by for their 35th anniversary party. It was early afternoon, the tournament was in full swing and the lunch rush was in overdrive. I've been coming here since the early 90's and I can't recall having a more attentive and knowledgeable waiter than we had today. Shout out to Cliff who not only got all of our orders correct, ran refills as needed. He was also nice enough to pose in our group photo. The food was delicious too! Two thumbs up, would recommend.

Enjoyed watching the volleyball play! From inside there are high tables by windows that you can watch- then the outdoor patio has strategic fans. Had the shrimp and the guacamole burger - really good!!

Tried out Aussies for the first time recently around 3pm for lunch on a Thursday. We sat ourselves, & opted for a table outside in their covered/shaded seating. Our service and experience were atrocious. Our waiter was rude and acted like he was swamped, but he only had a few other tables at any given time during our visit. He was extremely inattentive and i had to literally hunt him down in the restaurant any time we needed or wanted anything...as a heads up, you have to get your own water for yourself from one of those big, orange igloo water coolers with plastic cups - convenient so you can refill yourself as you'd like, but inconvenient at the same time since no one wants to have to move while outdoors to go get ourselves agua in this insane Texas heat. My chicken caesar salad was less than meh - the salad greens were dry and old, and the broiled chicken was super dried out and tough/hard to chew. My friend got the crispy chicken tacos, which he said were OK/not bad, unlike my salad... Rlyyyy wanted to like this place due to its popular, outdoor volleyball courts + food/drink opportunity, but was more than disappointed in every aspect of this single visit #butthurt

This place is like heaven! Kind of a combo of a Manhattan Beach bar, Cheers, and a dive bar / sports bar. A little bit of an underground spot but it's definitely a place you need to swing into if you want to get the host and vibe and culture. High level sand volleyball has been played here for years and the city has grown around it. Kind of a hidden gym tucked away behind sky rise apartments and office buildings now. The services impeccable they have cold beer on grass and kind of an upgraded bar menu that has a quite a few unique things as well as specialty burgers. If it's a beautiful spring day you need to be here!

What is there not to like about a dive bar that has sand volleyball? Come hang with a group of friends and eat some good ol American food at good ol American prices!!! Also, dog friendly.

The food here is soooo good I eat here 3 times a week at least you won't find prices like this anywhere else in Austin and the customer service is great my go to order is the Baja chicken sandwhich or the BLT the only thing I will say is the prices on alcohol is pretty high but the drink size for the cocktails is really good! This is my local bar, so I come here a lot. Good prices on beers. Lots of TV for sports (one outside). You can smoke outside. Always volleyball games going on, which gives a good vibe to the place. Food is only so-so, but I just use this place for beers, so all good.

Bartender had to cover bar and tables so service was understandably slow. Food came quickly and was well seasoned. Good stop for a drink and standard bar food.

Was in town for ACL for weekend 1 (Friday -Sunday) this past October 2023 and our hotel was around the corner on south congress. I was exhausted from day 2, so I left while my friends stayed at the concert but I needed something to eat and didn't want hotel food so I walked to this little bar across the street. I sat on the patio and it seemed to be a busy spot inside. Friendly folks, good little sandwich. If you want a drink and a bite to eat near the hotel this was a good little spot to hit.

Our first time trying this place, and probably our last. One of our orders was completely wrong, so had to wait for the corrected order to come out. Sadly when it did, the blackened catfish was under cooked, hubbs ate it anyway and wasn't feeling well by the time we left. So? Wasn't our servers fault just a mix up in kitchen but fish is an iffy cook anyway. Had heard good reviews, place looked fun, just wouldn't recommend to orders based upon that dish. Would be great if just going for the sports tv and beer, plenty of that, it did get louder as more patrons came in, and was fun watching the beach volley ball outside.

Looks like a cool place with a dive-like quality but was not happy at all with the food. Server was good but it took quite a long time for food to come out. Would not recommend this place.

Horrible!!!! Filthy dirty, use old grease to fry fish and chips. Could barely read the menu for the dirt and grease on it.

Little out of the way place near the embassy suites and yeti store on south congress. One of the best burgers I've ever had! Cool and laid back staff, cool surfboard decor. Very enjoyable break from a very busy day!

The food was sub par, but the service was great. Arianna was our server and she was hilarious and attentive. Our drinks were never empty. Without her my review would be three stars at best but what the restaurant lacked she made up for with personality.

This is a great place for an evening drink or snack after watching the bats from the nearby Congress Ave. Bridge. That's exactly what we did! To top off our entertainment, there was a beach volleyball league playing as we ate outside. Our waiter was very cordial, but it took forever for him to give us whatever we asked for. Guess they were short staffed. I even had to go sit in the car so we wouldn't get a meter ticket while my husband waited for the check. Back to the food. I ordered a veggie hamburger. It was OK. It included French fries. My husband had fish chips that also included French fries. The food was OK, but entertainment and setting were top notch. It was a good place to be out and enjoying people- watching.

Usually Aussie's is pretty darn good but last month and today, I went into the eating area inside and was completely ignored. It wasn't t hat they were slammed or anything there were 8 empty parking spaces out front. Three different servers walked right by me. I used to come here quite a bit, maybe it would be more beneficial to them to have a host that greets you. If this continues can't say business will flourish for them with all the new restaurants in Austin to choose from. Very disappointed.

On my first visit to Aussie's there was the Brazilian chick in a dental floss bikini playing volleyball... and in that moment, I thought Aussie's might be the best restaurant in Austin. With that said, I went and had a couple cold ones and ate with the boys recently. I checked in on Yelp, and it offered me a discount. THEY DENIED THAT. SO BEWARE. If you think you're going to get 20% off, ain't happening. I made a little bit of a stink and got a free beer (which are $5 bucks btw) so I feel like I won that fight.

I'm a long-time customer and fan of Aussie's. The atmosphere is nothing special, and the service is kind of hit and miss. But I've had some really tasty meals here! Occasionally, though, I receive a real stinker. That happened yesterday at lunch, after ordering one of my standard favorites, the Crispy Chook Salad. Normally, the chicken is lean but tender, with just the right amount of perfectly seasoned, crispy, golden crust. Yesterday I got something totally different. I'm not sure what piece(s) of chicken were involved, but it did not seem like breast. It was kind of gristly/gamey, and totally overbreaded. Please, please tell me this recipe hasn't changed, and I just happened in on a bad day? C'mon, Aussie's! You're one of the few remaining "old Austin" institutions... please stay gold, Ponyboy!

Good spot for for a quick drink, the bar seemed a little bit more of a dive bar feel. I came to watch the game but was pushed to the back of the room so they could turn on one TV focused for the Astros.

My favorite spot in Austin . For a sports bar the food is top notch, and there is always a game on. Whatever you're looking for in the sports world it will be on TV here. The staff is very helpful and pleasant and the ownership is solid as they have been in business for 30 years. They have the best sand volleyball in town and it's fun to watch the pros play! I hope Aussie's is in town for another 30 years!

Great pub grub, super service - friendly and fast. Nice layout with plenty of TVs. Only thing missing was 2-3 Aussie beers!

Stopped by while walking near the area. Our waitress was nice and accommodating. Service from the moment you walk in is energetic. The ambiance is loud but cool, TVs throughout the restaurant playing sports. My daughter and I had tacos. She had the fish tacos and I'm vegetarian so I opted for the black bean tacos on corn tortillas. Food was fresh, tasty and came with sides of guava, pico, sour cream. Thank you for a chill evening.

First of all, beware of the Yelp coupon of 20% off that you get when you check in. The restaurant "does not recognize Yelp coupons." Seems like BS, but that's what the manager told us. I did not take that into consultation in my rating. This is a beach-themed pub with a nice selection of local and National craft beers. They service the typical "Pub Grub," which was good. I had Chook Sand (broiled chicken sandwich). It was good, but the French fries were kinda soggy for my taste. The service was average wait. They have a cool outside patio with beach volleyball courts. We enjoyed our meal here and would return.

The kitchen manager is gross... The food is gross.. the managers wife cat is painfully unfunny....

Incredibly rude waitress and unhelpful staff. We came here for the outdoor seating (which isn't bad, it's very spacious next to two volleyball courts-$20/hour), but the service and demeanor of the staff was not at all worth it. I do not recommend--there are free volleyball courts a short distance away at the parks (nicer too), better service at literally any other restaurant/bar, and the drinks are the only aspect that lands in the 'acceptable' range.

This neighborhood bar is super cool. The food is ok and the drink prices are good. The hidden gem here is the Bartender Ashley (hope I spelled her name correctly). Anyway, she is the best Bartender I've EVER had. It was busy during an Eagles vs Cowboys game (duuuh the cowboys won) and Ashley managed to service the entire bar, surrounding bar area, outside patio and fill drink orders for the Wait Staff. She made her rounds in perfect timing, no one had to flag her down, check back on their orders or anything. She was proactive, attentive, engaging, and on top of her game! She should be casted on that show Bar Rescue to teach others how to Bartend. She is awesome! Thanks Ashley! *the missing star is for the food quality. The chicken wings were just ok*

Aussie's is the kind of spot you know is the most reliable place to meet up with your friends regardless if you play volleyball or not. With other spots & restaurants closing down Aussie's is still holding their stake down at this super convenient spot and location just steps away from downtown. Easy parking, easy seat yourself, and easy service too - we have never had any issues. Monday night's they have $7 burger specials on any of their burgers. I suggest getting their Roo Burger as it is deliciously charbroiled and fulfilling. All day Monday they even have happy hour as well with $3 tallboys on Tecates, PBR, or Lonestars which is super great especially if you are meeting up with friends or others. Nice little patio out in front and when it's cool enough the staff will open the doorways that connect the inside dining area to the outside patio. Take note of the hard wooden floors as this is the best floor to accommodate to folks coming in and out of that sandbox for volleyball. I would imagine it is easy cleanup considering this. Bar area is super informal and has all the tv's in one spot but you can order food from the bar or bar area as well. There are also several tv's in the main dining area and nice big booths to sit in that are comfy. Don't go no where, Aussie's. I definitely enjoy coming here for beer, food, and fun (watching those play volleyball).

The food here is SO good and reasonably priced. The drink specials are great, if you're a drinker. They have a great Bloody Mary and I'd say that the Brisbane Bites under appetizers are a must. Order with ranch. Can't forget the refreshing margarita. Not pictured are the to do for Brisbane Bites. ‍

The food was ok. The margarita was $5 but did not feel there was much alcohol. There was not many people and the service was ok. It did bring back fond memories of sand volleyball.

Stopped here for lunch because 1) it is right across the street from the hotel and 2) it was raining. Glad I did. Service was awesome. Waiter made sure my drink was always filled and kept checking in without being too interruptive. Burger was cooked exactly like I requested and didn't taste like it was frozen. Probably won't be the last time I'm here.

Good vibes and friendly staff. The waiter told us about happy hour, which made choices easier. Food we ordered was alright. Recommend cat fish, chicken salad so-so, fries albeit well seasoned could use more crunch. Beers were cold, lots of TV's playing sport..

I have been coming here for a while now, I have never had a bad experience of staying a minute after the fact they close at 12, but when I have a full beer still, I do not fathom the thought of the server to take it out of my hands because they are closed. If it were to be asked in a polite way to hurry up because of the late time of day, it would've been handled quickly. I do not appreciate the disrespect of this server I dealt with tonight. If she is ever working another night I'm there I will tell everyone to sip slowly just to make her stay later :) sorry but don't ever talk to me or others that way.

Always a fun spot with great bartenders and people. Get the mini corn dogs. Yummm so good

If I could put zero stars I would. My party was spending 200$+ dollars eating and drinking and we went to play volleyball and every time we have ever came here, we have never had to pay. Kids don't have to pay. This time though they told us 20$/hr which we didn't want to pay because we never had to. Long story short the servers cussed at us and called us names, the manager did the same and told us we were never allowed to come back. Over volleyball. Please do me a favor and don't support this place because the customer service is terrible and they don't care about their customers.

Best sports bar in Austin!.... Definitely a hidden gem that you should check out. Typical bar food but I think the quesadillas Rock! Sand volleyball going on five nights a week and tournaments on the weekends. Lots of TVs if you're trying to watch the game with family and friends.

We have gone to Aussie's for years and usually it's been pretty good. We have gone mainly because of its location being close to our event site and our hotels. Last weekend, Saturday night, we went in with a group of 9 people. The first 6 were seated & drink orders taken. We were given a single (torn) page menu to chose from. We placed our orders, mostly burgers and chips & salsa. Shortly after our order was placed the remaining 3 came in and sat down. When the server finally returned to our table he took their drink orders. When he returned with the drinks they attempted to order food. The server said the kitchen was closed and left. At no time did the server tell anyone that we were close to a cut off time. When the 3 arrived and gave their drink order, while looking at the menus, he never said anything. Later we asked to speak to the manager, this is when the bad situation went really bad. She came out to the table and we asked why our friends were not allowed to order food. Her response: "we ran out of food." When asked if she could clarify, "you have no food left in the kitchen?" She said, "right, we are out of food." When we said the server said it was because the kitchen was closed, she said that was also correct. So somehow our 3 friends happened to sit down just as the kitchen ran out of food and as the kitchen was closing. That is pretty remarkable. She also informed us that our server had been there since 9am, we sat down a little after 11pm, as if it their failing to staff their restaurant properly was somehow our fault or that we should just accept the poor service, After the "manager" walked away we were ignored for approximately 40 minutes. We almost called the place to ask someone to bring our checks to the table so we could leave. The manager then returned with one check. When asked to have it split, she said "this is how he rang it up." She then walked away and we never saw her again. Someone at our table then flagged down our server and said we wanted the bill split, he did do that for us. At one point we asked the manager for her name, she mumbled something and walked away. As close as Aussie's is, we will never return. The food has never been great but it has been acceptable. Our reason for never returning is because of how they treated our friends and then the entire table. There are a zillion awesome restaurants & bars throughout Austin, next time we will jump in the car and drive to one. Should have just gone up to the local pizza place where the pies are always fantastic & the homies always treat customers with respect. PS: the burger was horrible, so maybe the three was lucky they couldn't order.

I was in Austin for 4 days and this bar and grill was closest to my hotel. First night for 5 dinners and 5 drinks the vill was $172... before tip!!! AND they forgot a salad which we never got. Night 2, we ordered 2 long Island iced teas and they forgot to put sweet and sour in them. The other 2 drinks our parry ordered as a double came watered down. I don't travel to Austin much... but if I ever go back, I won't go there. :(

Every time I go here I have to pester staff to get service. Just walked out after waiting 30 minutes for a server to come to my table. Even after approaching staff and asking to be helped. Its like they don't even want my money. What a joke. Stop serving food and stick to beer and volleyball is that is how you run your restaurant.

Aussie's has a nice dive bar atmosphere with a decent beer selection. I was staying at the Embassy Suites which is in walking distance to get a quick pint or two. Friendly staff.

It's really sad when you find a place in a prime location that has so much potential, only to find out it's comes up way short in the most critical & essential categories - - i.e. quality of food and customer service. Unfortunately, Aussie's is a hit or miss in these important areas, and failed to redeem themselves after I gave them a 2nd chance w/in 1 week. The first visit had great customer service but so-so food, the 2nd visit had slightly better food quality but the service took a nose dive. On Monday nights there's an all-you-can-eat taco bar (chips, salsa, queso, ground beef, chicken) and your typical toppings (no guac or sour cream) for $5.99, which sounds like a bargain, but don't expect high quality tex mex here - after all, price does compromise quality. It doesn't compare to Chuy's or Matt's El Rancho, but it'll do for bar food. Chips and salsa were fine, the ground beef bathes in it's own juices (think HS cafeteria food). Chicken was okay (shredded and soaking in juices + oil), and the queso sits in a sauce pan and gets darker as the night goes on. It doesn't taste bad when it's fresh, but after a while it turns into cement, and if you let it sit in your bowl too long to cool off, you could use it as building blocks. I got the fish and chips on my 1st visit, the nice and attentive waitress (short blonde hair) recommended it, which came w/ fries and cole slaw for about $8.75. The last time I had fish and chips was in England a couple of years ago, so my expectations were somewhat high. I was envisioning them to be healthy portions of cod or halibut w/ a nice crispy batter, but instead I got 4 small ob-long pieces of fish that looked like they were boxed and frozen. It tasted okay, but not nearly as good as I expected. The cole slaw was horrible, it was warm as the mayo had been sitting out for a while, and the fries were on the warm and a bit greasy. The food was slightly better on my 2nd visit, the queso held up, the ground beef was better, but the service was below average - - which what caused me to knock my overall 3-star experience down to 2-star rating. My waitress (long brown hair) never smiled, acted like she didn't want to be there, never gave me silverware, and never came back to check on me after I paid the bill - - even though I stayed for an additional 45 min to watch the game. She was good about refilling my drinks during my meal, but dropped off into the abyss after the transaction. Not to mention on my way out the door I never got a "thanks for coming!" or "have a nice day!" (as the first waitress did). It left me wondering why did I even bother tipping her 27+%....? I should have given her 10% and wrote on the bill: "Tipping is a city in China" - - but I don't think she would of gotten it. It's a good place to go for beers and catch the game, the sand volleyball courts are cool, just don't expect any consistency in the customer service or food quality. If these guys only stepped it up a couple of notches I would be a regular here, but there are plenty of other establishments that would appreciate my business.

Aussies has a ho-hum selection of beer and food. It is not terrible, but nothing you would go out of your way to get. It is not a particularly classy place; I was always amused that the bathrooms had advertisements for DUI lawyers rather than (say) taxi cab companies. Since it is close to where we live though, we have occasionally gone in for a drink. That's the good parts of Aussies. Unfortunately as seems to have been the case with others, because of a bad experience with the staff we will not return. My wife was there with her friend and they had a tab of roughly $10-15. My wife's friend paid and apparently did not leave a good tip. Because of this, they followed my wife into the parking lots loudly yelling at them about being bad tippers. My wife (something I would not have done . . .) gave them an additional $5, but they continued to yell. I get why a bartender would be upset by a bad tip and I will not defend bad tippers, but this was an honest mistake and their behavior was completely unprofessional and out of line (in my opinion).
