Great service from hostess to server. Big portions for all the food. Foods come hot and flavorful. Steak was cooked perfectly!

Google
The food is so delicious! The prices are a little higher than they used to be but everything is more expensive nowadays so you really can’t complain because they serve you a fair amount, i couldn’t even finish my plate. The cinnamon roll was the perfect consistency and sweetness. The atmosphere is that of a 50’s diner with the colorful seats and music 10/10

Google
Perfectly fine but nothing special. Big menu, typical of good ol' diners, and good solid diner food. Nice decor with a bit-fake retro look, and comfy but old seating. Very friendly service, and loved hearing the crew shouting and laughing in the back.

Sadly my first impression of this place is less than ideal. Firstly i wasn't greeted at the door by the hostess, who, upon seeing me enter, took a menu and started walking (did not even give any directions to folow her) towards the back of the restaurant. Then im presented a table in the back, right next to the restrooms, when there were plenty of other seats/tables for one person. Hence, I sat at the bar. Upon waiting for my food, i noticed a family of 3 walk in and seat themselves. This was likely the smarter choice, over abiding by the sign saying to wait to be served. While my order was slightly wrong (served me bacon instead of ham and eggs), they had the right one made just in case. I ordered the french toast, with a side of ham and an additional side of two eggs. everything was made well, and tasted great. Also, from where I sat, at the bar, i could see directly into the kitchen, and onow that they put everything into making the meal. The portion size is great, and the coffee was nice. Aside from the food being good, Jackie, the other waitress, is amazing. While she wasn't my server, It was night and day how she treated her guests, how hard she worked, and how she made sure everyone had their beverages topped up. Overall, a decent place. Accepts cash, and has a (at the time) 3.9% cc fee.

Food taste like homemade. Portions are pretty large. Service was great!

Google
The restaurant was clean, well lit, and well staffed. The decor was very reminiscent of and old style diner. Service was fast and friendly. The coffee was good; hot, fresh, and not overly strong. I had the egg platter; two scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, and an English Muffin. The eggs were cooked perfectly and were light and fluffy with no runny parts. Hash browns were browned just right with no undercooked or burnt parts. The bacon was crispy but not hard and dried out. The English Muffin was toasted perfectly. This was one of the best comfort food breakfast I've had. My wife had the Migas plate. She said the Migas were closer to a true Mexican style Migas and we're very tasty. Her Texas style potatoes were cooked to tasty perfection; soft, hot, and flavorful. The dish also came with refried beans and they were delicious. They served two flour tortillas on the side. The tortillas were a bit on the small side but we're fresh and soft. All in all this is a great little jewel of a diner and I'll return for sure.

Google
Great find. Was looking for a local breakfast eatery and despite that this was my third choice because the wait times at the priority spots were over an hour, it was a great selection. No wait here but don't let that fool you - you have to add this spot to your breaking the fast repertory. Leti was great and the environment was classic. Had the La Tejana Omelet and my wife had the Egg Platter. She said the Hash Browns were the best she's ever had... crispy in the outside but fluffy on the inside - perfect. I love the vintage kitchen appliances on the shelves above the windows. The tables are cool too with imagery under the lacquer.

Google
A normal diner, but the food is good. I got the Jake's cake that had cottage cheese baked into it with ginger flavor. I also add banana as a topping. Chorimigas was delicious too! There’s free parking.

Yelp
This is a solid diner experience. We were seated right away and presented with friendly service. Portions were large and coffee was strong, just what I needed. If you are in the area, it is a solid breakfast choice with a throwback feel. The patrons seemed like regulars that kept returning.

Yelp
Come hungry! The food is tasty for being classed as diner food. The waitresses that were working when we went were working together rather than have separate sections, which made wait time seem shorter than other places. The 50s style is fun and they have old appliances as decoration, which is pretty cool. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Great place for an inexpensive and delicious breakfast. Have not tried their lunch options. It is our go to place for breakfast when family comes into town.

Yelp
First time trying this place and it did not disappoint. There's something on the menu for everyone! I had the Migas which had my preferred finely chopped onion & jal. Not big or chunky. Home fries = potato chunks seasoned & roasted. Hubby had Laura's Big Time plate. It had a little bit of everything- 3 eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns and pancakes. People working gave us a nice, genuine vibe - very welcoming. My introverted, quiet hubby said while we were leaving- I feel like I've made new friends and have a new place-:) We sat at the bar area and saw all the food being delivered. Next on our list to try are the onion rings-big & seasoned with light crispy batter. The California Skillet looks incredible! The burgers & sandwiches were big & fresh looking. But then again we're always happy with breakfast foods & they have everything!

Yelp
Yes! Yes! Yes! Always and forever!!! I moved to San Francisco 18 years ago. When I'm in Austin to see the kids, Austin Diner is on my top 10 list of place I HAVE to eat.

Yelp
DISGUSTING! : The good - They have a great logo, and the music is very 50's diner-esque. I just got home and immediately got undressed and put my clothes in the wash, because the nasty grease smell came home with me. This place used to be a good place for a regular American style breakfast. NO MORE. Writing this primarily as a reminder to myself to never return. The prices have doubled and the food isn't half as good as it used to be. Service was minimal. When we got there this morning the place was empty which is a bad sign. Bathrooms smelled bad already in the morning. My omelet came with some brown paste that was supposedly guacamole, and was according to the menu supposed to be fresh avocado. Hash browns weren't good. This is sad because I'm in this neighborhood a lot and used to be a good place to spend a little time having coffee and a nice breakfast. The last time I was there it was meh, this time it was NO NO NO. Your mileage may vary, but don't say you weren't warned. Grab a breakfast taco and coffee from almost any trailer will beat the pants off this place.

Yelp
Really good food for a fair price! Great customer service as well and the physical space is nice!

Yelp
Hidden gem! We were looking for a place for breakfast/brunch on a Saturday morning and were able to walk right in and get seated with no waiting! So glad we came! Service was great, food was excellent! I ordered the double trouble two eggs, two bacon, two sausage and two biscuits slathered in sausage gravy, it exceeded expectations! Biscuits are light and fluffy, gravy flavorful and creamy. We also ordered one Jake's ginger pancake to share. My daughter got one of the breakfast specials--Huevos Cobijados which had a wonderful Tex-mex flavor. Thanks Austin Cafe, we will be back!

Ellen L.

Yelp
Heck yeah i love this place. Its good food and cheap and usually u can get seated. I hate brunch places in austin but this place is super

Yelp
Giant servings, really strong atmosphere, kind waiters. There are a lot of vegetarian options too. Get yourself the ginger wheat pancakes!

Yelp
My hubby and I just stumbled upon this place after an early appointment in the same plaza. Checked yelp reviews and decided to have breakfast at the cute diner. As soon as we walk in, we are met with a friendly smile and greeting. The diner is decorated with vintage kitchen appliances which is cool and feeds into the ol' time diner feel/look. We were seated at a booth right away and offered coffee and anything else to drink. We ordered taco plates. Hubby got the Elgin and I got the bacon taco plate. I had some coffee and hubby had orange juice. Everything was tasty, hot & fresh. Made to order is always great. It guarantees a fresh yummy plate. I would say my only minor opinion is that the potatoes in the taco could have more flavor but other than that everything was great. That includes the service, staff and the good vibes eating there. I would recommend this spot and probably will return when in the area again. What makes this place is the friendly service, freshly made plates and the vibes all combined in a cozy environment. Thank you for keeping true to southern hospitality and sharing the good food.

Yelp
This is just your old school diner and a pleasant change from all the fancy new places around town. I always get breakfast and it's always good. The bacon is the thin stuff, salty. Biscuits are a bit heavier and everything needs a dash of salt and pepper in my opinion. So why does it get 4 stars? Price is OK. Food is fast. Waitresses friendly. And the atmosphere. If you want old school diner. This is the place.

Yelp
Austin Diner is quickly becoming on of our fav meet up brunch places. Quintessentially Austin and more than diner, it's down home, comfortable and best yet, not for those seeking sleek, ultra trendy venues. If there's a wait, it's a short one. Try to find that at one of those one-syllable new breakfast places. Austin Diner offers mostly the traditionals, but they do do them well. Buttermilk pancakes like out of memaw's house and slammin' biscuits and gravy. And the home fries...they'll light up your brain. Want tacos? Austin Diner serves them up home style and they're not street tacos but full size hunger stoppers. Several breakfast skillets are on offer, including the Californian, for the diet conscious. The coffee is hot and solid good--and that's big for us in a breakfast place. The wait staff is super efficient no matter how busy the diner is. Check out Austin Diner and leave happy!

Yelp
Charming neighborhood cafe with all the usual breakfast things.

Brittney H.

Yelp
The best biscuits and sausage gravy in Austin, Texas! This diner has been in Austin for many years. Huge portions! It has great prices and they have a senior's menu that is an awesome deal! If looking for an old school diner, this is it! They're only open until 3 pm so don't wait!
google avatar

Russell B.

Yelp
I really enjoy this little diner. Great home cooking and really friendly service. The daily lunch specials are a good deal and plenty of food! I particularly love the chicken and dumplings. Start your day with a hot cup of coffee (with refills!) and a warm cinnamon roll. Ask for extra icing.
google avatar

Yelp
The food is good and our wait person is trippy... Great breakfast menu options. The food is delicious!!

Yelp
It's a charming place and the food is amazing definitely recommend! Great for families too

Yelp
Hands down the best breakfast spot in Austin. Please continue to wait in line at "trendy" chain places you wannabe hipster sheep while I enjoy homemade mole emmoladas with perfectly done eggs for $11 bucks. Family-owned. Tons of parking. Nicest waitstaff ever.

Mike N.

Yelp
I'm really....concerned...about this, a favorite place of mine. I was last there on a busy Saturday, picking up takeout. It was a 30 minute wait AFTER I was told on a phone call that my order would be ready in ten. Well, that happens, no biggie. It was busy. But today we arrived just after 11 AM, only three tables were occupied. It took 25 minutes from the time we ordered until the plates came. I had the Pot Roast, today's special, my wife the Chef's Salad. My pot roast was, frankly, tasteless. The sides (green beans and black eyed peas) seemed to have come out of a can. I was real hungry, so I finished it off. But I will never order it again. The bread was a cold roll that made up for not being fresh by being small. My wife's salad was disappointing as well. The lettuce base was almost all white or yellow, very poor quality. My wife never complains, but I know that when she leaves two-thirds of a Chef's Salad, that it was not good. I get the feeling that the food we were served was not above institutional-quality, and by the time I was out of there, it was about $45 with a tip. I'm sorry, but after two mediocre to bad experiences in a row, it's time to find a new favorite diner. It really was a one-star meal, but I'm giving it two because of fond memories of good meals there in the past.

Yelp
What a great unique diner. Not only do they have regular diner food, they have Mexican food. I LOVE Chillaquiles. That was the special when I went. I got them and wasn't disappointed. That green sauce was money. The service was excellent from the time we walked in. The decor was so cool. I loved all of the old appliances on display. I have to go back a few more times before they get the 5 stars but I have faith that they will. I will definitely be back to try something else.

Jerry H.

Yelp
Food was average, coffee and oj were over priced, server barely spoke English. breakfast for two should not cost $45.00! will not be back..

Yelp
This morning, I was craving a traditional breakfast as was my date. So, after a little bit of looking online, we decided to give Austin Diner a shot. In short, I'm glad we did. We both enjoyed our pancakes -- hers were chocolate chip and mine were strawberry. The bacon is some of the best around as it's clearly been cooked on a flat top to a perfect level of crispiness. The quality of the bacon is also stellar as it's almost all meat with very little fat. The side of home fries that I ordered were excellent as they were crispy and well seasoned. Overall, our meal was excellent. The only flubs came with our service. Namely, our drinks went pretty much empty and we had to get our server's attention about that. I think a lot of their breakfast rush would be under better control if diners weren't waiting for things that the server should address. Another example of this for us was that the container with butter and jelly at our table was empty, requiring our server to make a trip for that. Regardless, this is definitely a great breakfast option. Come earlier in the day to avoid the rush.

Yelp
We haven't been here in a long while, thanks to Covid. We were back today and it was great. Staff is still delightful, food might be a little better than the last time. Regulars shuffled in and out. Glad to be back.

Yelp
This is the best Breakfast place I've ever eaten at, i'm usually not a big fan of potatoes but this place makes them BUSSIN. To who ever left that review about a hair and rude service, idk but you wildin for real. This place has the best service hands down. Will be going there again for all of eternity. :)

Yelp
A quaint diner with a fun 50s theme and nice staff. The food options are diverse and perfect for families.

Franklin B.

Yelp
This is my all-time favorite breakfast place in Austin! I've been coming here since I was only a few months old, and have been coming weekly since with my father, and the food hasn't declined in quality since! the staff are sweet and kind, and even offered my best friend a slice of cake when we came in for her birthday! The Longhorn skillet is delicious if you're dying of hunger, but the early bird special is always a hit when on a budget! I cannot recommend this place enough for the great food and greater memories!

Reid C.

Yelp
Really neat retro diner with an eclectic vibe, and the best Belgian waffle I've had. We visited while it was busy and waited a little more than half an hour for food, so I'm not sure if this is typical, but the California skillet was pretty good and the staff were really friendly!

Tammie P.

Yelp
The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the food served hot and delicious. It's the atmosphere of a diner that I truly enjoy and feel comfortable in. As someone said before friendly and unpretentious. Comfort food at it's best .

Caitlin P.

Yelp
Sooooo goood Hidden Little Gem with cute funky vibe inside Come support a great local business while having a tasty diner meal, excellent and friendly customer service Next time I want to try the pancakes!

AJ L.

Yelp
07-05-2022 - Ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and it had absolutely no batter crust & the steak was tough as nails with tons of grizzle, nerves & clumps of fat. The menu even said "Very Tender Cutlet" I can't believe they charged me for a $4.00 Ice Tea & my glass was still 3/4 quarters full. They should've comped everything. I don't recommend this place at all. Heading somewhere else for lunch, since

Linda W.

Yelp
This place was fabulous. The service was friendly and incredible. The food was so so delicious. We called ahead and put our name on the list for a table and didn't wait long at all
google avatar

Amira B.

Yelp
After going to Mayfield Park, we decided to stop for some brunch. First time at Austin Diner and everything we ordered was delicious. Both the veggie omelette and Migas plate were great. Food came out quick and was hot/fresh. There was lots of space to sit apart to allow for social distancing. All staff were wearing masks as well. The decor was cute - 60s/70s theme. You should check this place out!
google avatar

Wendy K.

Yelp
I was not impressed with this place. I had to ask to be moved because they had no social distancing. Took forever to get served. It took a long time for drinks to come. Two servers but one seemed to do everything. I liked my biscuits and eggs and my husband liked his tacos but not pancake or syrup. The hot chocolate was good.. I was disappointed that they did not have plexiglass between tables. We were very close to other customers ( less than 6 feet away during COVID)before we asked to move .
google avatar

Tj J.

Yelp
This should not be categorized as $. This place was expensive for a diner. The portions were big and the food tasted good. It's nice that it is family owned and operated. I had a buy one get one coupon that they did not honor. Why would a business pay to have coupons printed and not honor them? Also, I ordered my food without onion because I am allergic, and it came loaded with onion anyways. I spent the next day and a half extremely sick after eating here on New Years Day.
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
This morning, Cameron and I wanted to grab a late breakfast. We wanted diner style, so we decided to go to Austin Diner. We were immediately greeted by the host and sat at a comfy booth. The aesthetic of the place is so cute and retro. Roberto was our server. He was very polite and prompt with our service. I got the one egg platter which was the best breakfast plate I've had in a long time! The sausage was amazing.
google avatar

Lee S.

Yelp
Classic little diner with really good food. The ambiance is diner perfect. The service is neighbor friendly. And the menu has lots of tempting choices. This place is perfect! And a special props shout out to the Huevos Rancheros - Amazing!

Yelp
This is a hidden gem. After living in the neighborhood for the past 9 years, we finally came to Austin diner for breakfast on a Saturday. We were seated right away and loved the classic diner vibe. The breakfast menu was very large and in addition they have daily specials. The coffee was good, the pancake was also very good and both my husband and I really loved their has browns. We cannot wait to go back and try something from the lunch menu!
google avatar

Alex T.

Yelp
I love Austin Diner because it's just a normal diner that serves non-pretentious diner food quickly. While it's a treat to get gourmet free-range omelettes made with organic quail eggs, non-GMO braised emu belly, Himalayan pink salt, and topped with handcrafted parsley chutney with a side of cage-free, artisan waffle fries at the plethora of upscale brunch places in town, I usually don't want to put up with the wait or traffic to cure my hangover with just regular pork, eggs, potato, and coffee. The food here is simple, tasty, and affordable! I like that they don't over-salt the food like every other restaurant in town. I only come here for the breakfast foods so I don't know how the lunch/dinner items stack up, but I'm impressed with the breakfast. I usually get the Mexican Omelette with chorizo with a cup of black coffee and that'll fix a hangover real quick! They also offer Tex-Mex breakfast specials every once in a while, which makes my mouth water every time I read the specials board. My bill totals around $10 to $15, which is great since that's usually how much the fancy places charge for just the entree itself. Austin Diner is within walking distance of my apartment which makes it easy to stumble over in the morning. It's a miracle to walk in and be seated immediately, which is rare for brunch in this town! All the patrons and employees seem happy to be there every time I visit. The booths and tables are fairly worn, but it gives it character. I highly recommend going to Austin Diner if you just want regular food without the trendy fluff.

Cristina G.

Yelp
This is place is amazing. I can feel the good vibe of the employees. Try the Pancho Villa.
google avatar

Danielle G.

Yelp
Awesome little diner! The food was very reasonably priced, and you got a lot of it. Loved the biscuits and gravy. Their wheat pancakes are some of the best pancakes I've ever had!
google avatar

Melissa S.

Yelp
Good, fast, cheap food on the go. Service is good, and they move fast. Breakfasts combos are great along with specials like different crepes, etc. It's located in a plaza so easy to miss if you're not paying attention. I would eat here again for sure.

Helena N.

Yelp
It doesn't look like much when you walk past but I went with my family and the service was great but I had the French toast and it was dry and tasteless, even with syrup. I should have ordered something different because everything else was great!

Emma B.

Yelp
super delicious!! I got one of the specials called Bruce's (toasted english muffin w/ ham, spinach, 2 poached eggs, topped with chile con queso) absolutely amazing. I honestly prefer the queso over hollandaise which is usually on eggs benedict. Not sure why this place has only 3 stars, it deserves so much more!! Our waitress so so sweet, upbeat, and attentive. Will definitely be back. Is a great classic diner to eat at with family.
google avatar

Javier E.

Yelp
You want a mom and pop diner? This is your home! There's rarely a wait for seating. The food is pretty good, and well priced. I recommend Jake's Cakes, and Farmer's Favorite. Their malt shakes are delicious and made right there. You will not go home with an empty stomach, as their plates are generously served. This place has a lot of regulars who know what they want (like myself). The staff are so polite and welcoming, without the typical "ATX" overly energetic pace.
google avatar

Ben P.

Yelp
The food here was unexpectedly delicious! This is a basic, no frills, diner that was rockin the oldies. I enjoyed my time here, and the service was pretty good. The menu had a lot of choices and, as always, I went for breakfast. The eggs are cooked to perfection, the potatoes are amazing, and the pancakes with chocolate chips were delicious. The special of the day for Monday was meatloaf, and that looked really good as well. I would give this place three and a half stars if I could, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and rounded up to four. The reason for the lower rating would be for the atmosphere. You can tell the air conditioner leaks through the ceiling, and all the tables and chairs are pretty well-worn.

Eric C.

Yelp
Awesome diner with great breakfast and friendly service. Real vintage Austin. Highly recommend!

Marie L.

Yelp
When you let someone else pick your meal this is what you get sometimes. The food: disgusting omelet asked for no mushrooms it's filled with them, pancake plate has curly little hair on the side of my bacon. Waitress didn't want to give us butter! We send omelet back tell waitress about hair. She brings ticket back with all the food on it She says the omelet was prepared so it has to be paid for and the hair wasn't in the food just on the plate! So I'll just eat around it thank you so much. They proceed to send 2 other women to the table to discuss why my adult daughter hadn't touched her omelet. She explained again that she tried and it was not good. This girl argues her down no I saw it you didn't try it. She said no I did She again said it was untouched I saw it. I then ask what the problem is and why it's necessary for 3 people to come discuss this omelet when the real issue should've been the hair! This girl goes on to say we need to calm down. No one but her was being rude. We had not raised our voice a bit. I asked for the third time for the check. I ask her and waitress who the manager is and she rudely says I am I'm the manager I'm the goddaughter!! I said well your godparents need to teach you manners and customer service. She gave me the fake oh I'm sorry. I told her to stop patronizing me and get the change. Word of advice you never know who you're speaking to or who they know dear. Your nepotism is going to ruin your business owners bewaRe.

Mike H.

Yelp
Ok diner! Great staff, but "meh" migas. Definitely was a slice of that old school diner vibe, but I feel like I ordered the wrong thing. We'll see after a second visit.
