Automatic Seafood and Oysters

First time eating here and the atmosphere was great. Made reservations and was seated right away. Our server was Anabelle and she was very knowledgeable and polite. Drinks were very good as well as the various oysters. The timing of the dishes were spot on except for one of the entrees being a few minutes behind the others. The temperature of my fish was on the colder side which shocked me but it had good flavor. I ordered the warm bread pudding and sent it back due to it being ice cold inside. I was shocked the manager never stopped by once to check on us as other similar restaurants in the area like Ocean’s do. Enjoyed the atmosphere but will probably explore other restaurants in the area.

Food was excellent. Loved to well thought out menu. It was limited but very well thought out. I actually prefer a limited menu as I think it facilitates fresher food. This food was definitely fresh. Raw Murder Point oysters were just fantastic. Simple ginger sauce and lemon on the side. Steamed crab legs with a sharp marinade. So fantastic. Nice open space in dining room with some views of the open kitchen. This was a real treat but make sure you bring plenty of money as it is a $100 meal per person.

Great brunch with a selection of high quality items, raw bar, and cocktails. Dim lighting with dark paint, modern interior, and a kitchen / for prep area that is fully visible to patrons. Prices are reasonable and portions are good. Definitely make sure you get some oysters!

This was the best all around dinning experience I have had in the last decade. Our waiter was a 40+ year vet that worked the table. Our appetizers were unreal. The entree was my least favorite part, I felt like it was little lacking in flavor. Then the dessert. This pastry chef could open a restaurant tomorrow and I would give her all of my money.

We got reservations 2 hours before we had dinner and Automatic did not disappoint! The oysters were delicious and perfect as an appetizer, we both love oysters and visit the Gulf frequently, these were better than what we have gotten at the beach! We had the Swordfish and Whole Pompano, both were cooked to perfection and honestly the best we've had (which is saying a lot) the garnishment was amazing as well and we didn't even order any sides. Our server came at the exact moment we needed him each time (I am so sorry I don't remember his name!) We sat on the patio and it was a great intimate atmosphere for a date night!

Had the pleasure of eating at the fantastic Automatic Seafood & Oysters and it didn’t disappoint! Came here by the recommendation of my mother who, after her first time going couldn’t stop raving about it. We also had the great honor in speaking with the sous chef, Kyle and the others preparing Michelin-worthy dishes. I recommend everything. Worth every bit. See pictures and videos for more details.

We went for dinner and it was amazing. Everything we tried was superb. The pork belly appetizer and yeast rolls were delicious. I had the seared New England Scallops and when I say melted in my mouth 🤗 …that dish is a MUST try. My cousin tried the Swordfish and it was good as well. Our overall experience was 10/10. Service, food, drinks…the mixologist-not bartender, lol- was top notch.

Food was great service was good. Flounder is the best crispy and lightly fried but perfectly soft and light in the inside. Not even a big seafood fan but i am a fan of this place.

This place never disappoints. We love going to brunch at Automatic, and it's a favorite place to take out-of-town guests as well. The bar is great, with several tasty cocktails on the menu. The raw oysters make a great appetizer, and their house-made saltines are a perfect complement. The menu is frequently refreshed so it's difficult to make specific dish recommendations, but I have tried multiple different versions of their French toast and have also enjoyed the fish sandwich and the burger. They always have an appetizing selection of salads. And the donut holes are a "can't miss" if you go for brunch. The service is sometimes slow, but the servers usually know the dishes well and are enthusiastic with their recommendations. The decor is upscale modern eclectic. It's a great place for an intimate date or a night out with friends.

Overall, this was a very good dining experience. We were greeted quickly by our host, and seated promptly at our reservation time. The overall vibe of Automatic Seafood is warm and contemporary. Our server was friendly and very familiar with the menu. Their offerings were very good - from Starters to main courses, the menu was not huge but offered all kinds of selections. The dinner and dessert menus were both very good, and the quality of the food was terrific. We had a NY Strip Steak and Lobster Pot Pie - both were great, as were the dessert and coffee. The drink menu also offered a wide variety of mixed drinks, non-alcoholic mixed drinks and wine. This is a great place to eat, but the only unpleasant part of the experience is that the beer menu at Automatic Seafood is horrible. I like to have beer with a nice meal rather than wine or booze, and there was not a single offering that looked good. There were no light beers - all bad local craft beers, oddly placed imports, and crappy High Life. Very disjointed and underwhelming.

I only met my date at the bar of this excellent establishment. The bar is not my goto when I do restaurants unless I'm trying to watch a game, but this one was a little different in that you could watch the staff get busy in the oyster prep space. The food is definitely worth the dealing with sitting on a backless stool, which I hate. When I joined her, she was nibbling on a grilled octopus appetizer that was out of the park flavorful! I saw some really awesome looking entrees on the menu but I ended up trying an old Chinese classic: Shrimp Fried Rice. She couldn't believe I was ordering something that seemed so boring, but I figured this higher end restaurant will put a flare on it...and I was right. The basil leaves and some kind of brown salty, nutty nuggets of flavoring made it really different than your typical Chinese. I had the sautéed Brussels to go with it. Ohh, the flavor! Those two dishes go well together. She ordered a grilled Mahi mahi i believe, which of course, was fantastic. The bar experience, wait staff and all around ambiance was top notch. I will definitely be back to create happiness for my palette! Most definitely at a reserved table next time though.

We stopped in for a birthday celebration and had a fantastic experience. J was wonderful and very attentive-he had fantastic recommendations and was very friendly. The food was great, and we didn't come across anything we regretted-only a few dishes we regretted not being able to also order! Just a great reason to go back again. I would recommend reservations as they were fairly full at prime dining time, even on a Monday.

Service was great. Waiter nice and attentive. The food was good but somewhat cold. Restaurant cute. Overall No major complaints. Will go again.

Valet parking available. We just parked on the street. This place is fancy, has an open kitchen and has waiters lined up to help you. I was looking for more traditional seafood dishes like lobster bisque, and crab legs but the dishes were a little too fancy for us. It's pricey and just too fancy for us. I'm humbled but it was fun to try.

Automatic seafood is one of my Birmingham favorites. Will always recommend to friends visiting in town! Located near pepper place, Automatic is in a charming stand alone venue. There is seating available inside and outside. Valet parking is offered, but you can also find street parking nearby. We arrived way earlier than our reservation time, and they were able to promptly seat us on a Sunday morning. We always enjoy our meals at Automatic. We enjoyed avocado toast and the Benedict's, which were both fantastic. We are always looking forward to our next visit!

I went here two nights in a row. Ordering a bunch of appetizers for the table is the way to go. I was generally disappointed by the entrees but BLOWN AWAY by the apps, oysters, and small plates. The room is dimly lit and romantic. Perfect for date night or dinner with friends. The woman at the hostess stand was a little bit standoffish, alas I'm glad to know that Birmingham has restaurants worthy of fighting for a reservation.

This restaurant is phenomenal. It lives up to the hype. The outside is unassuming with white brick exterior however, upon walking in your nose is hit with the smell of fire cooked food and charred wood. The dining room is large with different sections and seating. There's a grand black tiled bar that has shellfish and other delicacies on display. There is also a semi private room tucked in the back corner. I'm guessing for large parties and overflow. All of the staff are really knowledgeable on the menu. This is necessary when everything looks and smells amazing. The whole fish was cooked perfectly! Covered in sauce yes still tender and crisp. Also really enjoyed the veggie plate, the perfect side.

I had dinner with wife and friends on Saturday night. We made reservations online using the Resy system. It was simple to use and provided plenty of confirmations and reminders via text message. The restaurant is architecturally pretty bland. It is an industrial looking white square building. There is a very nice patio and outdoor seating area. The dining room is large and spacious. There is a long full-service bar along the left side of the restaurant. Our waitress was Annabelle. She was courteous and helpful. We started with two appetizers. The Grilled Oysters and Chilled Crab Claws. The oysters were pretty tasty, but the 5 oysters were very very small. The crab claws were one of the highlights of the night. The sauce was a unique combination of cilantro, lime juice, and fish sauce, and it was a perfect complement to the succulent crab claw meat. For my entree I ordered the Seared Scallops and overall I thought this dish was very good. There were four large scallops that were seared and definitely not overcooked. The dish included a small sample of brisket that made for a good surf and turf combination. The scallops and brisket were plated with fresh greens and slices of fresh peaches and a peach flavored vinaigrette. I would recommend this dish. For desert, wife and I split a slice of Key Lime pie. A nice lite desert.

I loved everything about this restaurant, the atmosphere is perfect, the staff and service have been exemplary, and literally everything I've ordered on both visits has been beyond delicious and perfectly presented. I've always been reluctant to order octopus given it can be chewy if not done correctly. Having said that, their octopus is the best I've ever had (even arguably better than Bobby Flay's from Goto). I can't recommend Automatic Seafood enough.

This was my second visit to Automatic. Service was good both times. I have enjoyed all of the starters I've tried so far. Grilled oysters, deviled crab and yeast rolls. The grilled oysters are the stand out and I had them during both visits. The deviled crab was really good as well. For entrees, I've tried the blackened mahi and shrimp fried rice. I liked the shrimp fried rice better. The rice was flavorful with a little bit of spice. Cocktails are stiff with good flavor. I would return to Automatic.

Attentive and patient staff in a modern atmosphere. Brunch was delicious. The gumbo was the highlight, and the seasoning brought out the flavors of the variety of seafood that was in the gumbo. The short rib and eggs was also delicious, as the flavor of the meat paired perfectly with the kimchi that was slightly on the sweeter side. The fish dip was a yummy appetizer, and the olive oil on top made it excellent. The key lime pie was tart and yummy. The house made chocolate and mint ice cream was delicious, especially the mint, which was mild but tasted great with real, fresh mint. The bananas foster French toast was the perfect addition to the other savory dishes.

The food was really good. The standout dish was the grilled oysters. I wish there had been at least 10 more. The server was attentive and knowledgeable about everything on the menu. I enjoyed the drinks as well. Overall enjoyable experience.

Great dining experience. Went for a wedding anniversary and the food and staff were great! Solid selection of oysters and cocktails were well balanced. Food was paced out well and tasted fresh!

The salad was delicious when adding shrimp to eat it gets expensive..$3 bucks per shrimp. The oysters were delicious ,thats why we went and will keep going for. Service was great, and attentive. The vibe was cool and relaxing.

Went here for our 3 year anniversary date night! I started with a glass of Cabernet and they only have one served by the glass ($18). I'm not a huge wine drinker so this wasn't a problem for me but options are always nice. Bonus because they do have nice thin-rimmed glasses. David got a beer and he said it was fine but for $8, the glass should be filled up. David ordered a Caesar salad that never came. Our waiter did gladly take it off our ticket at the end. None of the appetizers jumped out at me so we didn't get one. The shrimp fried rice was phenomenal. Basmati rice, onion, sweet pepper, bok choy, ginger, chili glaze, fried egg and garlic butter. What's not to love?! The chili glaze really stood out to me and added a touch of heat but not too much. Truly a great dish with lots layers of flavors. ($30) David got the whole founder - he gets this at many places so it was fun to compare. He said it was good but the same quality as he gets at the Fish Market for a fraction of the price. It's $48 for *only* the flounder here and $19.99 at the Fish Market and that *includes* hushpuppies and a side. We opted to get sides and share them - the farm carrots were sooo good. The dill and honey elevated this dish so much. I kept going back to it. The potatoes were good but I took a bite and instantly said "This tastes like birthday cake." They were good, don't get me wrong - but creamy and sweet. We walked in and were taken aback by how extremely LOUD it was. This is not ideal for a first date or somewhere you'd want to go and catch up. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. Parking was better than most places downtown, as they do have a small parking lot. You're not limited to only parallel street parking - so that's a plus. Overall we enjoyed our meal! We don't have many complaints other than we can get the same quality of food at a much lower price. So we're going to have to say the price to quality ratio is not there for us unfortunately. David made the observation that restaurants where servers wear thick, industrial, neutral colored aprons (like the orange ones from Home Depot) have not had a great price to quality ratio, in our opinion. This is the third place where that's been the case. ‍

Our experience at Automatic Seafood was amazing. The server we had was so nice and she was so on top of everything. As soon as we used a fork or plate she would pick it up. The food was honestly out of this world. I have heard people talk about Automatic a lot, but I didn't have the chance to go check it out until my birthday this year. The fish cheeks were so tender and flavorful. The potatoes with the garlic aioli were amazing. Both fish dishes we got tasted so fresh. Such an amazing experience!!

The absolute best in Birmingham! The space is gorgeous, service is attentive and efficient, and the food is phenomenal! We started with the rolls with eastaboga honey butter. I order these EVERY time I'm here. They're a so pillowy soft and delicious. We also ordered the crispy fish collar. It's so dramatic and gorgeous and utterly delicious. I could drink that sauce! My daughter ordered the duck fat poached swordfish, and I ordered the blackened amberjack with crab beurre blanc. Both dishes were absolute perfection. Layer upon layer of flavors perfectly complementing each other. I e never had better dishes. We rounded out the evening with the banana custard cake. Think banana pudding in cake form. I'm not a fan of bananas; it was my daughter's choice. It was still delicious. This is my favorite restaurant in Birmingham, and I can't wait to be back!

Found myself in Alabama on a business trip and was pleasantly surprised by the food and service. As a Floridian, I don't think of Alabama as having great seafood or food culture, and this place proved me wrong. The service was exceptional. Everything on the menu sounded delicious after a long road trip, so our waiter was gracious enough to just surprise us with all the best menu items. The oysters were the cleanest and freshest I've ever enjoyed. The Cesar was everything you wanted every disappointing Caesar you've ever had to be. We had no idea how scallops would pair with brisket, but it was the best dish of the night. These were the stars, but the pork belly and swordfish were well-executed too. Looking forward to work finding me in Alabama again to get to experience the ever-changing menu!

I love Automatic Seafood! This was my second visit and it did not disappoint! My cousin and I both ordered the fish and chips, which was delicious! We also had Caesar salads and yeast rolls 5/5! Our waiter Billy was absolutely phenomenal, he was so knowledgeable about the dishes and had amazing recommendations! The fish was fresh and flavorful! I love the atmosphere of Automatic is very welcoming and relaxed!

I've literally spent thousands of dollars here since it has opened. The only thing keeping them from getting a fifth star is the consistency lately. The kitchen has become extremely inconsistent as of recent to fault. The space is gorgeous and the vibe is amazing. They usually have valet parking most days of the week. The hours? 7 days a week. What's not to love about that in a city that cannot seem to serve food Sunday or Monday. Location? Great area. It's just the kitchen...it's been a mess for the last little while and it isn't getting any better sadly.

This spot live up to the hype. Our server was excellent. Knowledgeable and friendly, happy to explain the unique differences in the oyster types. Food was excellent, cooked well, and delicious with a good bit of variety in menu. Interior is interesting with a clean design and nice touches.

Wow. First night in Birmingham, found this place as highly rated and open on Sunday which is not common in Birmingham fine dining as it turns out. And man did we score. This was an absolutely fabulous meal from beginning to end with zero faults. We started with cocktails and they had some very creative and delicious ones. I had one that was made with rye whiskey, falernum and a couple of other things and was absolutely delicious. We had oysters from the raw bar, which were fabulous. We had the rolls which were sweet and salty and delicious as well as the fish collar appetizer, which was really really good. For entrées we had the whole fried pompano and the shrimp fried rice. Both were absolutely delicious! We also got the hush puppies, which were very good although I will say they didn't blow me away. For dessert we had the Keylime pie and the Sunday. Both were to die for. If you're only going to get one dessert I think I would go with the sunday. It's completely homemade including the strawberry ice cream and was just fabulous. the service was wonderful, the food came quickly, but not too quickly and all around it was just an amazing meal. I would come back here in a heartbeat!

I made a dinner reservation for my mate and I while I was in town and it was pretty nice overall. Here's what we got: - Speared Lane Snapper Crudo: $15.00. Ginger, finger lime, extra virgin olive oil. This was a bit of a disappointing dish as it was missing that acid to cut the citrus and fish. The finger limes were fine as they were, but not enough to balance out the snapper. The ginger felt out of place in this dish as well. We did let our waiter know and he was more than willing to accommodate by bringing soy sauce if it helped, but we were almost done with all the pieces, so we thanked him for offering and finished it as is. - Two oysters: I asked our waiter to surprise me with two that he recommended and he did deliver with the Baywater indigo and Murder Point oysters. My favourite was the Murder Point, which turned out to be from Alabama! - Yeast rolls: $6.00. Four rolls served with eastaboga honey butter. The bread was on the sweeter side, but the honey butter was a great flavour balancer. The salt flakes on the rolls helped pair the sweetness yet savouriness of the butter & bread with the right amount of saltiness. - Whole B-Liner Snapper A La Plancha: $40.00. Tokyo bekana cabbage, daikon, fish sauce vinaigrette. We really enjoyed this dish, although I forgot how many bones there are in fish. The umami from the fish sauce with the cabbage and peppers was a great combination. - Negroni: We saw a phony Negroni on the menu but when my mate inquired if there was one with alcohol available, our waiter was willing to have the bartender make it. All things said, my mate liked it and I certainly could taste the bitters. The seating consists of a large open concept with a tonne of windows; our particular seating was somewhat close by to others - we sat by the semi-open kitchen concept area with two different couples on either side of us. The cushioned seating was comfortable but the location wasn't super ideal as I could hear the music and had a hard time having a conversation with my mate. I could hear what the other tables were saying, which was a bit uncomfortable. There was a patio area followed by an oyster bar and alcohol bar seating a bit of ways away from us. The service was stellar. Our waiter and server were really amazing - attentive, non-hovering, and kind; both of them made sure that I got the check and not my mate, since I wanted to come here and hadn't seen him in years. I feel terrible for forgetting their names. The ambiance was a mix between a social club, high-end restaurant, and get-together/date night event place. The parking is mostly street parking from what I remember; we did have to park a block down and walk, but no harm done and it was no trouble at all. This is definitely a place to come to have some great oysters or seafood, and even special events!

By far my favorite restaurant in Birmingham. If I'm in town, a meal will be consumed here. Great ambiance and fantastic food. I've not tried anything on the menu that I haven't loved. Of course my fave is the fish collar but the crudo/ fish and chips/ oysters/ fried rice/ crab claws and redfish were amazing as well. Definitely an unexpected gem in Birmingham

Sister date calls for Automatic! My sister and I decided to meet up here of Tuesday night to catch up and have what we consider a light dinner. Winter was taking care of us for the night. He was great! We started with the yeast rolls and crispy pork belly. The rolls always hit, however, the crispy pork belly wasn't crispy to our standards. The pork belly had a light crisp on one side and the rest was your typical fatty pork belly. There was good flavor, but I wouldn't get it again. For the main course we split the Prime NY strip with potato puree, mushrooms and we added an additional side of crispy potatoes. The cook on the steak was a perfect medium rare and the flavor was mouth watering good. Honestly kind of want it again today. Potato puree, mushrooms and crispy potatoes with black garlic aioli also did not disappoint. We ended our meal with a pumpkin crème brûlée that came with a cookie. Honestly don't understand the point of the cookie... seems more like an afterthought. Maybe we should have read the menu better because we were under the impression that the cookie was going to be incorporated within the brûlée somehow. Nonetheless, the pumpkin crème brûlée was tasty.

We had an amazing dinner with an amazing server, Phil! If you go ask for Phil and he'll make sure your experience is top notch! Every bite was better than the next!

Automatic has easily been placed as my fav seafood restaurant in Birmingham. If you want high quality and fresh seafood then please give them a try. I've only been twice but the lasting impression is what makes it #1. We came on a Saturday night with a 9pm reservation and they were only out of two menu items. Luckily they didn't peak our interest. For the table we got the crispy fish collar, crispy pork belly and chargrilled oysters. Let me say that fish collar has me in a choke hold, 1000/10. It's fried just right and seasoned perfectly. And it's enough meat on it for three ppl. Now the pork belly could've been a little more crispy but the flavor made up for it. It has peanuts and a sweet/umami Asian type sauce on it. Now for those oyster 2000/10 they were so good and fresh and juicy. You normally get 5 but since it was three of us we asked for 6. For dinner I had the shrimp fried rice and this is the star of the night. Omg it was so flavorful and I didn't need soy sauce or nothing. Just my fork and mouth. My friend had scallops and brisket dish. Her brisket wasn't the most tender and was not hot enough so she sent it back and they tried to fix it but simply heated it up not helping with the tender issues. I tasted the scallops, I'm not a scallop person really but I wanted to taste to make sure I hadn't changed my mind. Now they were seasoned and good but I just can't with the texture. My other friend had the Crispy Barjack fish which uses the same breading as the fish collar and let me say, that fish was divine!! I give automatic 10/10 price: $$ service: 9/10. I'm ready to get back

Service was fabulous for a late party of 10. Food and drinks were super fast. Servers were so great! Food was unbelievable. Sat a party of 10 at a table with a giant lazy Susan. It was incredible. Can't wait to come back!

Fantastic food, fantastic service, tasteful decor. Automatic makes me proud to live in Birmingham.

Great food & nice ambience. Restaurant is really big & spacious. Service was okay. We ordered the yeast rolls & fish dip for an appetizer. The rolls were great. I liked the fish dip but it's heavy on the dill, which is a little overpowering. We all got different fish plates - grouper, amberjack & snapper. All were great & cooked really well. They were very flavorful & not dry. Honestly, some of the best cooked grouper I have had. We'll definitely come back next time we're in town.

I have only heard rave reviews over Automatic so I was very excited. When we arrived they did have valet parking available which is always nice downtown on a weekend. We made a reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival. David, our server, was great! He was knowledgeable on the menu and very helpful. We couldn't find a cocktail on the menu that we wanted to we ordered a spicy margarita with passion fruit. We started with the grilled oysters. They were so delicious we could have gotten two orders. We ordered the crispy red snapper and the gulf shrimp fried rice. We substituted the recommended side for the crispy sweet potatoes. They were absolutely delicious. My boyfriend absolutely loved the snapper. I like the fried rice, but I thought my shrimp was just a tad overcooked.

First time eating here and allergic to shellfish. Place was chosen by my dinner companion who happens to be one of the most powerful women in sports. She loved not being recognized. The staff were incredibly gracious and efficient. I had pork belly, mushrooms and brussels sprouts with the addition of comeback sauce. As a man who avoids seafood focused restaurants because "the other" is often an afterthought---FANTASTIC!!! One complaint. The table had an area of perhaps 4 inches. Exaggeration but we were having a meal not cocktails. Shout out to Jen!

A great evening at Automatic. First off our server Richard was extremely knowledgeable about the menu options. There were a couple of dishes that my wife and I were not familiar with. He was spot on with the flavor and texture descriptions. Great job Richard. appetizer: crab claws, quite good. Main dish: my wife had the African Pompano fish. She said it was amazing and had a great buttery flavor. I had the blackened barracuda. James Beard Award winner. Fantastic flavor and texture. Both of these are fish we had never tried. Sides: beet salad and grilled asparagus were both great compliments to the dishes. Deserts: strawberry cheesecake and key lime pie. Both were perfect. Overall, there was nothing we would have changed! Perfect evening.

Oyster heaven! If you love oysters, this is a great oyster place! We got several varieties! Food was excellent. Loved the smoked fish dip with their homemade crackers. We had the tuna which was perfectly cooked, light and delicious. Also ate the blackened barracuda over squash, and item was excellent. The rosemary potatoes were delightful as well! Beautiful restaurant and bar! You can't go wrong here!!

Fantastic vibe, perfect service and beautifully plated food. My duck fat poached swordfish was overcooked and under seasoned. Truthfully, it was a little bland. We had a Caesar salad that was also under seasoned. Everything else was solid. The star for me was the raw oysters. Truly exceptional freshness. The total experience was very good.

Your suggestion for raw oysters was exactly what I wanted. The oysters were fresh and buttery. Marvin watching your skill at shucking was both entertaining and amazing. We enjoyed experience. Great food!

In town for business and wanted seafood. I found ASO. Very cool place, inside and out. Atmosphere is lively but not too loud. The staff is excellent, especially the bar staff, which is where I ate. I had a Speared Cobia Crudo app which was awesome. Main course was Blackened Amber Jack with crawfish berre blanc, and slow cooked collard greens. Both were excellent, and cooked perfectly. I will come here again, so should you.

Food and service was very good! The oysters were delicious. I had the Spice Crusted Tuna and it was yummy just extremely spicy, as expected. The Amberjack was my favorite, very very good!!

Always a great time at Automatic. My family went for brunch on a Saturday to celebrate some birthdays, there were 6 of us and a baby. Our server Billy (I believe was his name) was amazing, he was very attentive and had great energy. It was my parents first time to Automatic and they couldn't believe how tasty it was. Will be taking them back for dinner soon!

Very good and very fresh seafood restaurant in Birmingham that is most definitely worth a visit. This place hit on all cylinders when we were there last week, the service, ambience, and the food were all excellent. My only disappointment was that I was with some people who didn't like oysters, because the oyster bar here looked legit, I will certainly come back just for that. We had some good hot rolls and crab cakes for an appetizer, both were good, then for dinner I ordered the shrimp fried rice, and it was delicious. The shrimp was super fresh and cooked just right, it tasted like it was caught the same day. The sharable sides were also good, but the hush puppies were the star, they were perfect and came with some great sauce. Extra shout out for great drinks also, very impressive.

Everything at Automatic was spot on, from the service to the starters to the entrees. Our waiter was very attentive and the cocktails were great. I enjoyed the gag grouper which was perfectly prepared. The atmosphere is modern but comfortable with tables that have both chairs and banquets.

First time here and it was really nice inside. The outdoor patio was also beautiful but it was 95 degrees outside. Hello Southern heat! I got a seat at the bar and started with the tuna tartare. It was more blended than minced like I'm used to and I didn't love the texture but the flavors were good. My server was great and the service was fast. She recommended the duck fat poached swordfish. Oh my goodness! This dish was a star! The XO sauce topping and the sticky rice really set it off and the swordfish was cooked perfectly. There weren't many veggies in the dish but I would come back and order this over and over again.

Everything was so perfect! We had a wonderful server unfortunately I did not get her name. The food was delicious! The grilled oysters were small but made up for them with taste, they were some of the best I've had. I had the crispy mangrove fish which was fabulous, hubs had mahi mahi and he loved it. The rolls everyone post about are really just dinner rolls but it's the butter and salt topping that makes them so good. We shared key lime pie which was not to tart or to sweet, perfect balance. Also go for the Espresso martini you won't be disappointed.

I was excited about finally getting to come here. Highly anticipated! A friend and I had reservations for 5pm on a Saturday. This was perfect! We both utilized valet parking as it was rainy during our visit. When I arrived, my friend was already seated. I was ready to hit the ground running! The vibe is modern and cozy. Perfect for a date with family/ friends or significant other. Our server was very prompt and professional throughout dinner. He took our drink orders and appetizer orders. I had a nice glass of champagne with a splash of st germain (try it ... it's delicious!!!) My friend ordered a cocktail that was yummy and well presented! I feel like we ordered a good bit and was able to try some yummy apps and of course our main entrees. All worth the price of admission! I loved this experience and yep, I'll be back to discover more yummy goodness! See pics for what all we had to eat and drink .... Fun times!

10/10 for this meal!! The Tuna dish was one of the best meals I've ever had. Everything was so fresh and delicious. The service was great and food and drink times were very reasonable! I always love coming to Automatic when I'm in Birmingham, AL.
