Only has soft serve, no hard ice ice cream. They also only accept cash. Prices are quite high for soft serve. Soft serve melts almost immediately into goop. No redeeming qualities to warrant a return visit.

Prices aren't horrendous, honestly, for being a summer go-to spot in Avalon. Soft serve is creamy and not gritty, which sometimes it can be. There are plenty of toppings and cone varieties. Has a nice little sitting area on the corner, and they recently changed their napkins, which are better than the ones they had at the beginning of the summer. It is cash only.

truly outstanding. as a lactose (very) intolerant person, i just cant resist☺️☺️☺️!! got my tonsils out and this healed it in a jiffy!! this place jumpin every night since it is the hottest ice cream place in avalon ( un ironicly 😙) toppings galore and extraordinarily amazing customer service. as a 64 year old local myself i watched this place grow in popularity from the ground up!! they make the line go speedy quick despite business. overall 9.37393974747383/10 and its pretty splendid. until next time!!!!🥲🥲🥲

it was amazing we went there after eating at a restraint for some dessert we ordered the sundae with Oreos and 2 chocolate ice cream cones it was big for its size and it was amazing and the Staff in the front window was nice I would always go again if your near by try it!!

Really nice place always a line and the ice cream is the best in Avalon the owner Karen was picking up the napkins on the floor and it was very clean the girls at the desk were very nice and really quick

The beach is a beach but an Avalon Freeze is sublime. Super friendly staff. Saw the owner hosing down the sidewalk early one morning. Walked there after the Murray Mile ocean race a few bucks short of what I needed to treat my companion. Gracious staff trusted me to come back and make it right. True Avalon hospitality

Classic | Creamy | Options Classic - Avalon Freeze is a staple of life on the 7-mile island. There are effectively two institutions when it comes to ice cream, and this is the one in Avalon. It is the quintessential old-school ice cream spot. You show up and go to the window and make your order. You have to go whether you have little ones, you are a teenager, or you are visiting family - GO TO THE FREEZE! Creamy - They have soft serve ice cream here. Avalon Freeze has vanilla/chocolate/swirl bases which are all delicious and creamy. Take your time whenever you consume because you will have a STRONG brain freeze if you rush. Options - You have a variety of options for toppings at the Freeze. You can add jimmies (sprinkles - for people not from the northeast), M & Ms, Oreos, gummy worms, etc. Pro Tip - There is limited parking. Therefore plan on walking over.

They have the best peanut butter sauce on the island. Serve it with a twist and you got me drooling. A bit pricy but that's what it's like on vacation.

Delicious soft serve frozen yogurt. My mom, who is quite particular about her frozen yogurt, is the real fan of this store--we would go every night when we vacationed for a week in Avalon--but after they started serving sea salt pretzel caramel, I went from just liking their soft serve to LOVING it. Wish they would add a store in Ocean City. I miss it!

Love this spot! Great ice cream place when you are in Avalon. We waited in a little bit of a line on a Friday night, but it moved pretty quickly. They were cash only. The ice cream itself was delicious, and prices are reasonable. Will definitely come again when I am in town.

I grew up in the area and after not visiting Avalon Freeze for several years just due to living elsewhere, I can say that nothing has changed - and that's a good thing! If you're craving soft serve in Avalon, this is the place to go. Even though there might be a long line, the line moves very quickly since the options are limited (in a good way!). You have your choice of vanilla, chocolate, or twist ice cream and a few rotating flavors of frozen yogurt. There are several options of specialty cones (including cookie and pretzel) as well as many options for toppings. My go-to is a twist in a cone with rainbow jimmies (yes, not sprinkles - we're in NJ!). This never ceases to disappoint. If you're looking for something a little more exciting, you can choose from a sundae, milkshake, or an Avalon Freezer (basically the equivalent of a Blizzard from DQ). Note - this is a CASH ONLY place, but the prices are reasonable (a medium cone is less than $5). Eat up and enjoy!

An iconic Avalon establishment, Avalon Freeze is the perfect sweet ending to a summer's day at the shore. My go-to is the salted caramel pretzel yogurt in cake cone with chocolate dip top; yum! Although it may appear to have a long line, don't let it deter you; it moves fast!

This is the place to go when visiting Avalon. Their custard is as good as it gets and is even better then kohr brothers. They have milkshakes and sundaes and I always get the banana boat, their version of the banana split. It could be a long wait if you go prime time , but it will be worth it!

Tasty soft serve custard with lots of options for toppings, sundaes, and milkshakes. They do have free pup cups with vanilla custard and a treat, which is usually able to last our small pup 2 nights. Usually has a long line during the summer, which moves pretty slow. Also cash only - be aware!

Short, sweet and simple: it is little on the pricey side and cash only but it was super yummy frozen yogurt!! We stopped here while heading back home on a Sunday early afternoon so there wasn't a wait either!

Friendly, helpful staff and reasonable prices for a high-end shore town. Lines tend to get very long but they move rather quickly. Nice surprise is how tasty the shakes are!

Delicious - got the twist ice cream Though i always go for soft serve not this time A but will return when in Avalon So refreshing on a hot summer day!

Wow! What can I say. The custard is out of this world. The twist in a cup or a cone is our favorite. It has body not like some places you feel like your are eating air. The lines are always long at certain times of the day and night so if you don't see a line step up and order.

Friendly service and love that they have slushies which is a rare find and not offered across the street at the Bucaneer. I had a small watermelon slushy with a vanilla ice cream floater that was wonderful and affordable. My husband had chocolate ice cream with a peanut brittle topping that he really liked. Although there is no indoor seating there is a variety of tables outside that you can sit out. Unfortunately none of them were shaded so it made for quickly melting ice cream in the hot sun!

I don't know how they do it but this is the creamiest soft serve we've ever had. Twist cone is perfect!

Eh, you're basic soft serve ice cream. Nothing overly creative. Way over priced. The lines can be crazy long and not worth the wait

This place is a true Avalon tradition. It opened in 1957, and remains an Avalon landmark. They make excellent soft serve. Fast and friendly service. There's a line for a reason. They make great milkshakes, cones, dipped cones, and Freezers. (A "Freeze" is what DQ would call a "blizzard," what other folks would call "concretes.") Many families make good memories here. There's nothing like a chocolate-dipped serving of happiness in a cone to cool off a great day on the shore, or to cap off a the perfect summer evening.

Such a nice late night or mid-day treat!! All the young ladies working there are very sweet and helpful. I highly recommend getting their signature "freezer". It is your choice of vanilla or chocolate and any of the toppings blended together. My go to is the vanilla oreo freezer and it never fails to disappoint!! I also enjoy just a twist in a cone. Great spot and even better service.

Got some soft serve for the kids here. Seemed a little pricey but the (kid) portions weren't bad. Tasted pretty good, felt like a family run place.

Home of the infamous Double Jenny, the Avalon Freeze is THE hottest spot to cool down in Avalon. This classic hole in the wall ice cream palace boasts lines down and across Dune Road with hungry customers eager to wrap their tongues around a Double Jenny, a succulent symphony of vanilla custard dipped in chocolate and topped with crunch. Lore has it that two spectacularly beautiful women -- both named Jenny, one brunette, the other blonde -- coined this irresistible treat many moons ago, and customers come from far and wide to experience its magic. Of course, there are other delicious frozen delicacies to try, but none compare to the inimitable Double Jenny. It's just not summer without one.

mmm Ice Cream! With all of the Cold Stone's out there, it's nice to have an establishment like Avalon Freeze around. It's been around forever; the oldest ice cream place on the island. The place definitely has repeat customers who go nowhere else for their soft serve. Simply go up to the window and order what you want, if you don't know what they serve, view the giant menu board in the glass window. Avalon Freeze offers soft serve ice cream in vanilla, chocolate, or twist. You can also get frozen yogurt in these flavors. They have a variety of toppings and the popular chocolate dip for your ice cream cone. You can also try the "Freezer" similar to DQ's "Blizzard". I get a vanilla frozen yogurt Freezer with oreo and marshmellow for a reasonable price. Be prepared to wait in a line for 5-15 minutes on a busy summer night, this place is delicious !

Best Ice cream ever. I have been going to this place since I was a very young kid and no one's ice cream can beat this place. Creamy - yummy - perfect. Its a hard choice between rainbow jimmies or the chocolate dip. This is one of the few places that does a thick crunchy chocolate dip. If you visit Avalon and don't go the freeze, you really missed out.

I was disappointed. I found the girls working at the window to be very abrupt. The prices were high, and they only offer soft serve, which melts right away. I'll go elsewhere in the future.

Best soft serve on the island by far. My family could go here every night during vacation. The lines are definitely long after 8 when people finish their dinner. If you don't wait to wait try to go before then -- normally moves decently quick. Not a whole lot of varieties/toppings, just classic sprinkles, chocolate coating, and candy. Must come here if you're a soft serve fan. Also have milkshakes, malts, freezers.

It was ok not the best ice cream Vanilla with jimmies an Avalon freeze and caramel sea salt was our order. All was pretty good. Nice to sit outside Springer in stone harbor is 5 star

Probably the best spot to get soft serve in Avalon/Stone Harbor area. While they don't have much of a selection, you know what to expect. Avalon Freeze offers soft serve ice cream in vanilla, chocolate, or twist. Milkshakes are available as well as a few other items listed in the reviews below. I'd give them a B+ overall. You won't leave disappointed but you won't be thrilled by anything. CASH ONLY

This was very yummy! Me and my daughter enjoyed our waffle cones. It isn't cheap but still cheaper than Kohr's which is crazy expensive... I like the outside seating and the town of Avalon is very pretty with the trees all lit up...much quieter than Stone Harbor..

This place is a hidden gem. The girls look like they work hard and always have a smile. Can't wait til this season. I missed it.

Wanted to give this small ice cream shop a try and it did not disappoint, although it did to my wallet. The ice cream is good, more specifically i had tried the root beer float. It was very good but not anything close to the worth of what I had paid for.

Our family favorite ice cream place for over a generation. My son waits all year to come to Avalon for the chocolate shakes. I prefer the vanilla shakes. The ice cream tastes perfect, and the consistency is much better than anywhere else. The only problem is that it melts instantly, but that's the insane humidity in New Jersey, which isn't their fault. They also handle large crowds in record speed. Don't let a long line deter you here.

This is good soft serve with interesting toppings. I don't normally like soft serve that much but this tastes rich and fresh. Reasonably priced.

Island classic - can't go wrong. Definitely the best soft serve on the island. Lines are long after dinner but worth the wait. Try the crunch topping, it's delicious.

Disgusting. I wish I could give it zero stars. Both of us ordered vanilla/chocolate milkshakes ($5 each). The entire thing just tasted like it was full of chemicals. I can't believe it other people are not complaining. I felt like we were going to get sick after we starting consuming it once we returned home. The milkshake is also made with soft serve ice cream. If the owner/operator sees this message, I would hope you would want to make amends for this poor experience or else we will take our business elsewhere down the street. We are here all summer long.

Always awesome, like traveling back through time to when life was simpler -- of course there was always trouble in the world -- but you tend to focus on the tasty ice cream running down your forearm.

Have now visited all of the ice cream shops in Avalon and Stone Harbor and must say, Avalon Freeze was very disappointing. It certainly did not live up to all the hype and the long lines it boasts. My mother and I went recently and both got vanilla soft serve. She got hers with butterscotch sauce and I got mine with cookie dough mixed in. I hated it so I threw it out and bought a new, plain vanilla soft serve on a cone. This was also disappointing. It had no flavor and was not worth the calories. We both ended up throwing the rest of our treats out and agreed never to go again. The vanilla froyo at Toppings just a block away was much better.

An Avalon favorite. Reliable and consistent, the "Freeze" has delicious ice cream and it's just fun.

Very generous serving of fantastic tasting non-fat vanilla yogurt ... servers who always greet you with a smile!
