Where To Get Dinner On New Year’s Eve - New York - The Infatuation

"If your resolutions involve going greener next year, consider starting things off early with Avant Garden’s $125 prix fixe. The East Village vegan restaurant is known for things like artichoke toast, and big, meaty chunks of roasted hen of the woods, so we’re sure their six-course, special occasion menu won’t disappoint. And the space, with a hodgepodge of suede, shrubbery, antique wood and vintage fixtures, looks like a speakeasy for fairies and elves. All guests get tickets to their after-party at the Poison Ivy Club until 2am, so your whole night is covered. Reserve a spot in the bar or main dining room here. " - Neha Talreja

The Kind-Of-Healthy Hit List - New York - The Infatuation

"This is the second location of an East Village vegan spot, and it’s in the space that used to be Post Office (a great Williamsburg whiskey bar that served chicken liver bacon sandwiches). While you may feel like this is reason for existential panic, go to Avant Garden, try the food, and you’ll feel better. The dishes - like eggplant toast and paella with trumpet mushrooms - are all good, and the dimly-lit space works well for a date or healthy dinner with a friend." - Bryan Kim, Matt Tervooren

The Ride-Along Report: First Takes From Last Night’s Dinner - New York - The Infatuation

"What It Is: The second, Williamsburg location of a vegan spot we like Perfect For: Keeping It Kind Of Healthy, Date Night Avant Garden’s name isn’t doing it any favors - but this restaurant does make some very good vegan food. We stopped into the new location in Williamsburg and found a setup that’s similar to the original in the East Village: fancy (but not pretentious) plates of vegetables that won’t make you miss the presence of meat, in an intimate space that would be good for a low-key date. Skip the cocktails and try something off their interesting wine list instead, and get the eggplant toast - which is excellent, and one of the new menu items that’s only available at this location. The Verdict: There isn’t much like Avant Garden around this location in Williamsburg, and we plan to come back soon to eat more vegan food that doesn’t remind us we’re eating vegan food. It’s going on the Hit List." - Hannah Albertine, Bryan Kim, Katherine Lewin, Hillary Reinsberg, Chris Stang

Avant Garden - Review - Williamsburg - New York - The Infatuation

"Avant Garden’s name isn’t exactly doing it any favors - but this restaurant does make some very good vegan food. They just opened a new location in Williamsburg with a setup that’s very similar to the original in the East Village: fancy (but not pretentious) plates of vegetables that won’t make you miss the presence of meat, in an intimate space that would be good for a low-key date. Skip the cocktails and try something off their interesting wine list instead, and get the eggplant toast - which is excellent, and one of the new menu items that’s only available at this location." - Katherine Lewin

Delicious vegan food and wine! The toasts are particularly delicious. Listen to their recommendations for wine. Also enjoyed the dessert! They were great. Pricey, but definitely worth it for the intricate flavor profiles!

I will never in the history of my life ever become a vegan. It's just not going to happen. No way. Nope. But I can always appreciate a vegetarian or vegan meal that can make me forget the fact that there's no meat on my plate. All hail AVANT GARDEN in Brooklyn! A small, intimate restaurant located just steps away from the Williamsburg Bridge (or really the hull of the bridge), AG has a beautiful bar area where you can watch the amazing Chefs in action. The staff here is friendly, welcoming and informative and describe to you exactly what is in each dish, which to me was perfect because there's just no way I'll ever pretend to know anything about plant based meals. But regardless of that you'll easily understand what goes into your dish and how it's made if you're still sort of a newbie in this type of dining. First dish up was their corn toast with a black bean puree, corn shoot, corn salad and lime cilantro crema. A very tasty dish that'll have you munching away in no time. Bursting with a ridiculous amount of flavor. Next up was the merquez eggplant toast with fried chickpea salad, cucumber yogurt, hazelnut and castelvetrano olive. I'm not the biggest fan of olives or eggplant but this toast dish was spot on. Both toasts came with a thick slice of toast, which really makes all the difference when it comes to getting toast in restaurants. Next was the porcini with duxelle stuffed portobellos, caramelized onion puree, and peppercorn cream. This dish was an absolute delight to eat. Loved the plating and really loved the portobello mushrooms. Soon after those dishes were done with the show-stopper was presented to the table: Celery Root with shiitake, mushroom gremolata. This is a pasta dish unlike any other I've ever had. The shiitake mushrooms added a great sprinkle of umami flavor and the pureed celery root was earthy and flat out delicious. Whatever you do, have this dish! It is a MUST! Avant Garden is highly recommended for those who are meatless, live a plant based meal life or if you're just looking for straight up delicious food.

Blown away. One of my favorite New York dining experiences. Sit at the chefs counter and don’t be afraid to ask questions. You’ll be inspired by how clever, thoughtful and delicious this restaurant is.

Where could I begin? My boyfriend & I set out for a glass a wine somewhere in the neighborhood and realized we were actually starving. We had another place in mind but our curiosity got the best of us. We are not vegan/vegetarian but have a deep appreciation for food, wine and especially personalized service. Each bite of food was packed with flavor and perfect execution, down to presentation. The host sat us right away even though we did not have a reservation, we laughed when we sat just before 8 pm and he told us he would need the table back by 9:30- no way, we thought, would we be there that long. In our minds the dishes seemed like apps that would be fun to taste but little did we know they would also not only fill us up but the experience would captivate us. The ambiance, the music, decor and hospitality were nothing short of exceptional- especially for this area of Williamsburg. Drew, the wine sommelier went above and beyond to explain wine and educate, and openly discuss wines on and off the menu. This was the most special, unexpected treat and considering we live on the block, will definitely be back. I don’t write reviews often but the entire staff and experience deserved an amazing review. We left feeling fulfilled in a way we haven’t in a long time. My partner and I are both in the industry and it’s places like this that remind us the good in it. Highly recommend no matter what your dietary preference. Take a chance, explore the food and listen to their wine recommendations. You to could find yourself writing a yelp review that’s longer then your linked in bio. 5 stars!!! (Ps- we are Italian and hard to please- check this place out!)
