"Beaverton’s destination for Louisiana Cajun standards, Avenue Saint Charles serves classics like jambalaya, gumbo, and po’boys, with vegan options as well. This is also one of the only spots in in the suburb offering crawfish etouffee, not to mention annual Mardi Gras specials like boudin balls and king cake. Any dish would benefit from one of the cart-made hot sauces, with names like Freedia’s Booty Popping Pineapple Scorpion Pepper." - Eater Staff

Yelp
Today I had the Fried Oyster Po-boy with Crystal hot sauce. Top marks all around. The oysters were fried perfectly crispy but still juicy. It came with seasoned fries - a great accompaniment.

Yelp
Hands down, one of THE BEST PLACES to check out when your at the BG food carts! Let me just start off saying: I was a total non believer. Normally, not a sandwich gal. Soggy bread with flat old soppy veggies and weird meat.... unless it's homemade or a butcher run establishment- 9/10 my experience with sandwiches has not been great. So, I learned to avoid ordering or looking for them. My husband has been a big fan of this place for over a year and every time, I would 100% see him enjoying his sandwich, but I always thought-- it's because this dude relatively enjoys sandwiches. Well, I finally ordered a PoBoy Shrimp and OH MY GOODNESS.... literally, SHOOKED!! Let's start with the bread! Perfectly made bread (freshly flew in from New Orleans) with delicious and I mean delicious mayo and freshly bed of lettuce and tomatoes with crisp shrimp. Now, your thinking (( it sounds too simple. )) absolutely NOT. Everything is unbelievably fresh and so well made that I was so sad I finished my meal. My husband and I debated on going back to order a second one!! Haha, it was that epic. The sauces are also over the park amazing. I believe the kind gentleman said he grew all the peppers and his son is the chef and makes everything from scratch. Let's move on to how this food truck is always very clean. The owners are all very nice and bonus it is family run. We will be back. Back for more poboys, jambalaya, and gumbo (oh, they also have vegan options). We may even back in 2 hrs for 'dinner'.

Yelp
Excellent, authentic Cajun food! We had the jambalaya and added a few drizzles of homemade hot sauces - amazing! We will be back soon for sure.

Yelp
Big flavor from a little cart! Stopped by the BG Cartel today to grab some lunch, and I decided to try this place out after looking at their menu. Had trouble deciding between the red beans and rice, jambalaya, and po' boy since they all looked great, but ultimately decided on the sandwich. When I ordered, the women told me they had a rotating specials menu and asked if I'd be interested in the crawfish po' boy instead. She was kind enough to explain the flavor difference to me and I ultimately decided to order that. It was DELICIOUS. The bread was flaky and warm, there was tons of crawfish, and the breading was excellent. The fries that came on the side were perfectly damaged and cooked. They also have a menu of homemade hot sauces you can choose from. I chose medium and it was really, really good. Perfect compliment to the sandwich. Actually, I would have purchased a bottle of it if they sold it separately. Between the food and the great service, I will definitely be eating here again.

Yelp
Just an update to let everyone know that Avenue Saint Charles is still firing on all cylinders! I mean, to go to a place that you've eaten at before and to be blown away every time is really something special. Having been to most all of the BG Food Carts now I would say Avenue Saint Charles is firmly planted as the best food cart with a commanding lead over the others. I don't think it would be an exaggeration to say it's the best food cart I've eaten at in Beaverton and Portland. If you haven't stopped by you're REALLY missing out. I must admit I've only had the Po' Boys so far. Reason being that they are just so delicious I can never bring myself to deviate and try something else. I will be cycling through the while menu soon though. It's freaky to think that every item on the menu is probably just as good if not better than the Po' Boy...

Yelp
Love loved loved this whole experience from start to finish. We were visiting family in the area and were introduced to the food trailer scene. This location had several stalls and plenty of parking across the street. I initially walked up to this place because my love of po' boys, what made me order from there was the sign that said "we are a fully vaccinated truck". When I said to the woman running the window that I liked the sign, she told me that she is a full-time healthcare worker, and engaged me in a great conversation. From that moment I was in. I ordered the shrimp po' boy, bread pudding, and the intriguing Cajun Chex mix. We were able to grab a table without issue and my food was ready very quickly. The chef didn't mind my one modification of "no tomatoes" because as the lovely lady told me, "chef doesn't like tomatoes either". I brought my tower of boxes over to the tables and dug right in. First let's talk about the sandwich. Great bread! There is nothing worse than a sandwich with shitty bread...this roll was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They LOADED it with a ton of shrimp. No skimpy portions here. I normal don't finish my food, but I ate every bite of this sandwich. The Chex mix was a total surprise. It was loaded with flavor and a nice pair to the sandwich. I brought this back to the hotel and got my crunch on while reading my book. Lastly, the bread pudding. Now, I hate raisins with a fiery passion. I say that they are the devils candy. When she told me there were golden raisins I almost didn't order it. I decided I would eat around them. How we, when I dug in I can confidently say that they didn't bother me. The flavor paired with the sauce and the gooey confection were perfect. This is my long winded love letter saying that if this is an option, you should definitely try it out. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
An excellent version of crawfish étouffée, one of the best I've had. Price points are fair. Service was much quicker than the other carts in this massive pod. The owners/workers are very nice.

Kelly B.

Yelp
If you like New Orleans style food, this is the food cart you need to visit. The red beans and rice are so flavorful, and I love that if I feel like eating vegetarian, I can get tofu with it. The service is always great and prompt. If you don't know what to choose, just ask and you'll get a great recommendation.

John D.

Yelp
Wow, delicious Jambalaya I appreciated that she asked, when handing me my hefty serving, which sauce I might want. "Sauce?" She pointed to the list posted on the window. Ah! As she started noting which were mild, I jumped in: "What's your hottest?" She handed me a little cup of their fiery pineapple chili sauce. Delicious and a heat that I could control when adding to my dish. Loved the whole experience!

Arun S.

Yelp
Tried shrimp po boy and chicken /sausage gumbo. Get hot sauce for po boy sandwich. That's a real deal. Gumbo was just okay. Good place to try up within Beaverton food cart stands.

Buzzy B.

Yelp
We were ordering BBQ at the truck next door and saw the listing for a pickle plate and had to have it. OMG - if you love pickled vegetables as much as we do you have to try this! The pickled apples (who knew you could pickle apples) were amazing! So we're the watermelon rings, green beans, radishes, corn on cob and cauliflower. There was some sprouts also but they had a stronger spice (anise maybe?) I didn't care for. Will definitely come back for this and maybe a shrimp po boy next time!

Kelly H.

Yelp
Great from start to finish. The person taking our orders was very friendly. I ordered the crawfish etoufee. It was perfect - they were very generous with the crawfish and the sauce was spicy without being overwhelming. It's located in a food cart court which has picnic tables with umbrellas and room for kids to run. Wonderful choice for a fun meal

Yelp
My bf and I went to the food cart park in Beaverton for a late breakfast. We shared a crepe and a waffle sandwich, but we felt something was missing, so we decided to share some gumbo as well. I went up to place my order and the man behind the cart window warmly greeted me. He asked me which sauce I wanted, and there were many options (all spicy). I don't do so spicy but I asked about their spiciest sauce for my bf. They said they don't usually give their ghost pepper sauce out (unless people ask specifically). Since he offered, I went for the opportunity! A few minutes later, we picked up the gumbo, sauces, and mini-corn muffins. The chicken and sausage was very tender (they also have a vegan choice) and the gumbo itself was savory and perfect for a chilly morning. I dont get to eat a lot of gumbo, but something about the gravy like stock + upside down rice-dome made it a very satisfying meal~ They told me they make everything in house, and it really comes through in the food. I'd totally recommend the food cart and the food!

Yelp
This really hit the spot today. Crusty bread packed with juicy shrimp, fresh veg and flavorful sauces. I tried it with the xxx hot sauce, next time I'm going to go for one of the hotter ones.

David F.

Yelp
Tried 3 items and in order of best to good (no bad!). Jambalaya, beans & rice w/sausage, and gumbo. Can get various sauces but all were very good without having to spice them up more unless you want to. All came with little corn breads which were a nice add on. My fav place is in Portland but I will come back here for more.

Janet D.

Yelp
This is the best place for Jambalaya and bread pudding, in my opinion. If you want authentic New Orleans taste, look no further. We started coming here several years ago, the gumbo and rice & beans are fabulous too!

Nate H.

Yelp
Wow! All I can say is Wow! What a fabulous cart. They are kinda tucked back in the corner, but well worth finding. The service is absolutely above and beyond. Great descriptions, friendly, helpful! You walk away with a great feeling, and then you get your food. Holy cow! I'm not an expert in New Orleans cuisine, but it tastes pretty authentic to me! And absolutely delicious. There are vegan options, unique for a cart like this. Oh, and the deserts are divine!! Highly recommended!

Anastasia B.

Yelp
The vegan Hoppin John salad is SO. GOOD. Perfect amount of lightness and brightness from the pickled cauliflower to cut through the warmth, smokiness and density of the rice and black eyed peas. Always very friendly and fast service.

Les J.

Yelp
Lived one summer in Baton Rouge, and traveled to New Orleans on the weekends. The food and drink was the best part of the summer, so I was excited to find this food cart. I had the special - crawfish etouffee, a side of fried pickles, and added a locally made praline. The crawfish was cooked perfectly, (the spice level has spot on) the pickles very unique, and the praline a rich treat. Will definitely be back! (Staff super friendly also)

Jeff Y.

Yelp
Very friendly cart owners with roots from New Orleans. I ordered the shrimp po boy sandwich and posted a photo. They said although it is more expensive they source the bread from New Orleans as it is so light and tasty. I am converted that it is worth sourcing this bread as it really adds to the sandwich. There is a generous amount of crispy shrimp that is NOT greasy. Well done! I will be back.

Denise B.

Yelp
This food cart offered muffolatas and totally caught my eye. They were super fast as the sandwiches sat in the back marinating already made. The sandwich was to have 3 meats, ham, mortadella, and salami. It had a lot of meat but mostly ham and it was shown the other 2. The key of a muffolatas is the olive spread inside. Lots of olives chopped up inside. They missed that part. I could barely taste any. So one side of the bread is not really soggy but it's the marinating part. The other part of the bread is very firm and crunchy. Every muffolatas I've had was made on the spot and had lots of olives. This was a good sandwich with tons of meat but not a muffolatas. The chips that came with were the cheap crinkle kind that are super greasy and felt like they were open a little too long. Again good sandwich, not what it's advertised as.

Yelp
Tasty southern food! I had the Gumbo...very good! My wife had the red beans and rice with blackened tofu which had a real Cajun flavor; Reasonable prices.

Chuck M.

Yelp
I'm from NOLA, Metairie actually, and the red beans at this cart could be served up in NOLA. I get them w tofu, which is quite the plot twist, but the beans are excellent.

Jesse C.

Yelp
Been to the cart cartel many times but not since January 2020, due to COVID-19. We finally made it back over there on a weekend full of curbside pickups and it was nice to some hot food from this cart. I really enjoyed the Gumbo, it was delicious! My wife had a Po'noy and was also pleased with her meal. Definitely would get a hot meal from Avenue St Charles again!

Carrie S.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying that I am biased. I know both the chef and his partner. With that said, I've known people at other restaurants and chosen to say nothing. This is a place ran by someone who loves food and service and it shows. I don't like pickled vegetables anywhere BUT here. I worship the pork cracklings'. My mon had never been to a food truck and this was the place I took her. There is a reason why. If you aren't sure what you want ask for help and prepare to enjoy yourself.

Arlington A.

Yelp
Nom nom, delicious bowls, hard boiled eggs were a nice twist. Overall, definitely recommend.

Claire D.

Yelp
all of the vegan options are so good especially the gumbo!! the tofu there is one of the best i've ever had!

Nik M.

Yelp
Friendly service with a smile, great food, ready fast! I thought I didn't like muffuletta, but it turns out most other places make them poorly.... Avenue St Charles makes one that is a delicious highlight of the menu. The assortment of seasonal pickles is fantastic and clearly a labor of love. Highly recommended. Don't miss the pork crackling either. Yum!

Nick Y.

Yelp
Gumbo is amazing. Pork cracklings are dope. Pickle plate is awesome. If you like cajun/creole check this place out. Authentic as fuck

Edwin J.

Yelp
Great food, friendly service. Will definitely be back. Chicken and andouille sausage gumbo was amazing. Perfect heat and salt balance. Ever wonder how to make pork belly even better? Go try the cracklins.

Wayne R.

Yelp
I wanted to like Avenue St. Charles. I love Cajun food and spend my time in New Orleans eating my way across the French Quarter. But the flavor of southern Louisiana is absent here. I've visited Avenue St. Charles twice and was disappointed both times.

Vanessa K.

Yelp
10/10 - would order the chicken and sausage gumbo again! The little cornbread muffins are addicting too. I've been excited to eat here and it did not disappoint. The gentlemen who took my order was super nice too!

LukeTabor B.

Yelp
For Fat Tuesday, I'm going here from now on. They have the world's best sausage and chicken gumbo. It is so creamy and delicious. An extra bonus is their corn bread. It is so yummy even wi Th our butter and honey. Check out this place. The best Cajun food in town!

Dazer T.

Yelp
I can only speak to the fabulous Fried Shrimp Po' Boy because it is all I ever order. Tyler recommended it be eaten with the xxx hot sauce and it matched perfectly (but so does the medium sauce). They order the bread fresh daily from a bakery in New Orleans. The shrimp is perfectly fried. My #1 favorite sandwich right now, and the service is always friendly, too!

Michael W.

Yelp
Ordered the bowl and some cracklins. It was like 18 bucks or so. Made me wonder is there a food shortage? Proportions really could not have been smaller. The bowl and way too much lettuce in it and hardly any meat. Would not eat here again. Overpriced and I left hungry

Tom F.

Yelp
Of all the choices in this group, why did I pick this place? I guess I had the Cajun urge. Overpriced bowl of gumbo with decent andouille sausage but the chicken seemed to be a cross between processed and tofu.

E A H.

Yelp
I tried the chicken and andouille sausage gumbo over jasmine rice bowl. The roux/gravy was a dark color (which you can only get from hours of scratch cooking!) creating a rich, deep flavor with tons of chicken, sausage, fresh veggies (red bell peppers, etc) and just a hint of heat! The rice was perfectly cooked and the 2 mini corn muffins were light and sweet making me want more. . .but not needing to. The service was fast and very friendly. Worth the price and I will be back to try other NOLA menu items. Overall experience = Laissez les bons temps rouler!! Merci beaucoup!
