Avenues Thrift Shoppe

I saw this place randomly as I drove by, and decided to stop. Extremely glad I did. I found a really nice jacket, and a bunch of little stuff to give as additional Christmas gifts. The folks at the desk were helpful and engaging, and even random customers started conversation and gave advise. Saved in my favorites, I will be back in the new year!

What a wonderful thrift store. Great staff who are very helpful. Love the store decor. The clients who benefit from the sales always greet you with a big smile.

I'm giving away some of Carrie's things I've gone to Good Will and St Vincent De Paul but I totally forgot about Avenues to Independence. The Avenue is such a wonderful place they hire people with disabilities it was one of Carrie's favorite stops when we went bargain hunting. My friend Janice added a comment as well My son works for Avenues, directly with the clients. It is truly a wonderful organization, that sadly not many outside the area know much about.I know how much they appreciate the donations as well as the support.

I mainly go here to look at records, CDs, and books. I have bought a few home decor items, like baskets and knick-knacks. I also found a great vintage radio here! (Photo included.) The staff members are friendly and the store is easy to navigate and find what you're looking for. I love that this organization helps people with physical and mental disabilities, and finds them training, jobs, or skills exploration. They are just as an important demographic and as a Human Resources Specialist I know they are often overlooked. Some of their clients even have handmade crafts for sale, like cards, magnets, flower arrangements, etc. It's a great thrift shop with a great mission. I believe there is a credit card minimum to spend, like $10 or $20, so just know that if you plan to pay by card.

You can definitely tell the new management is amazing! In the past things weren’t as organized and the workers weren’t as friendly but when I went recently the manager was super helpful and kind. I felt very welcomed and I found so many cute things! Definitely one of my favorite little shops in the area!

I’ve been shopping here for years, small, intimate store. Items are always clean. Great for bric-a-brac and small children’s clothes. I’ve never encountered this mystery rude employee mentioned by another reviewer, in my experience everyone has been very polite and inviting.

What an incredibly lovely store! The workers were very helpful and so excited that I was able to find a few treasures I could not live without! I will definitely shop at Avenues again!

Small shop with a very friendly staff. Weather was bad so we showed up a little late however the staff was very inviting and helpful. They told us the story and purpose of the show and I'd go back again and support such a great cause.

Beautiful, welcoming atmosphere! It's obvious the store is well cared for. Employees are friendly and so helpful! There is a wide range of clothing, accessories, and miscellaneous items; you're bound to find something you will love!

I made 3 attempts in the last week to drop donations off during your posted hours. First attempt you were closed due to illness which I understand. Second attempt you did not answer the back door so I came around front with my donations, and was told to return to back door. I did not have time to go back and wait. Today, I came at 1:00 and you were closed. Can you update your hours? I will just donate a car full of stuff to another organization.

Visited here in March, 2023. I was very happy I stopped there. The employees were all very pleasant, the store was clean and very well organized. Although I live clear across town, I'm looking forward to my next trip to that area so I can stop in there again. Parking was easy, also. Nice Place!!!

The store is well organized and the staff are absolutely wonderful group of people. New items come in everyday and they have brand new clothing at deep discount prices. The proceeds from their thrift shoppe go back to programs that assist adults with learning disabilities to thrive in the society. I recommend everyone to stop by and check out the store. You'll never know what treasure you'd find.

The bald-headed weenie guy that works there is a total asshole. I've been going there thinking they'd be appreciating the tons of clothing that I've brought there in the last couple of weeks but instead weenie guy scolded me because the bags were too heavy. I carried them in so I don't know what he was so upset about. Since they were heavy duty bags I asked if I could have them back so I could use them again to bring in future loads and yes, another scolding. You would have sworn that I asked him for one of his kidneys. I'll never deal with that place again. I took my next load of clothing to Salvation Army on Touhy and Linder in Skokie with no problems and no scolding. Just a friendly smile and thank-you. Too bad weenie guy, I had a lot more items to donate. But no more, thanks to you. Think twice before you patronize this place.

Rude service , they also up charged an item when I went back for it the next day. Not coming back to this place !

The manager is a total jerk!!! I complained about someone working the register who treated me very poorly and of course he took her side . Customers should come first , but he acted like a total asshole!! Will never go back there!

Very Clean, well organized, well lit, most friendly non for profit thrift store I have ever been in. The place was hopping with people shopping and chatting. The clothes were nice and well selected and particularly no smell! I would be back to try out some tops for a buck soon. The house ware ( code for collectible dishes and glasses) selection was small but well chosen. I left with some Fire King and a cool old Vegas glass with the names of long forgotten casinos on it. The art selection was nice and wide ranging and they had nice old jewelry at modest prices. The manager was welcoming and gave me her card when they ran out of store cards. She told me about the things they regularly get in and said I just missed 40 beer glasses that morning. Someone came and took them all. I will definitely make this a regular stop on my "junking rounds".

I love this place, nice and clean the workers are so nice and polite tons of books, I was in heaven clothing wise not so much but still pretty good support local business

I found a number of items to buy in this smaller shop. It is not huge but a nice selection of clothes, housewares, jewelry. Very nice staff.

An overall great thrift store!! very clean and has dressing rooms. lots of cool records, cute tshirts and etc.! would go back

Small thrift with quality items, no junk. Mostly newer items with a good selection of clothes for adults and some for children. A good spot to constantly check if your local.

I've been coming here off and on for at least a decade, and they've changed the store around in the past year or so so that it's less crowded with things and more open. Books cost no more than $1 and clothes are similarly priced. There are generally bargains available; plus, they have sales. A new feature is items made by some of the developmentally-disabled young people, like magnets, cards, and jewelry, for pretty low prices--and the creators get to keep all the proceeds. (I got a gift bag for 99 cents). A good cause to support.

This is my favorite thrift store in the area. I have found great jewelry, art, and women's clothing here. The women's clothing is well organized (as is the whole store). I found some brand new clothing items as well as awesome vintage clothing. They have men's clothes too. Everyone is always very nice as well.
