Avra Estiatorio Rockefeller Center - A not so "Hidden" Gem in the Heart of Midtown...
Located right across from Radio City Music Hall in the Time-Life Building, Avra Rockefeller Center delivers an upscale Greek dining experience that far exceeds expectations for a tourist-heavy area. On this gorgeous November Sunday, we decided to pair a bit of window shopping with a meal here--and wow, were we both blown away.
From the moment we walked in, it was clear this wasn't your typical Midtown Touristy Eatery. The atmosphere was refined yet inviting, with the staff embodying professionalism and warmth. A standout was meeting the operations manager, John O., who runs a tight professional ship, ensuring everything functions seamlessly. Our server, Deanna A., was exceptional, as was the rest of the team, including Omar, who lived up to his nickname, "Omar The Magnificent."
The meal started on a high note with complimentary pita and hummus, which set the tone for what followed. We began with the Avra Chips, a light and crispy blend of zucchini and eggplant served with tzatziki--a must-try appetizer. For mains, the Snake River Farms Wagyu Eye of Ribeye (8 oz., 28-day aged) for me stole the show! I requested an extra-charred exterior with a medium interior--a tough ask, but they delivered perfection. The Bifteki Souvlaki, with skewered ground lamb and oregano fries, was another standout, expertly grilled over charcoal and of course for me a couple glasses of Routestock Cabernet.
Again, this dining experience was far more than expected, especially given the location. Every detail, from the food to the service, was flawless. If you're planning a visit, reservations are highly recommended. We can't wait to return. Thanks!!
