What a quaint little taco spot. The outdoor seating area is so nice. The fried fish tacos with the boom boom sauce is good. The crab dip is divine. Should give a try!

Google
Food taste great! Not super expensive but it is quality. Carolynn was such a delight at the host. One sample of that frozen sangria and I was SOLD. they are absolutely a must have.

Google
Aw shucks, as in mistake to come here. Line is out the door to get in to this restaurant. And from my experience it wasn’t because of the outstanding food and service. Theres a long line because theres 1 person at the front door that is the hostess AND takes your food order and payment. It’s VERY time consuming. The same person also oversees the ever popular frozen alcoholic drink dispensers for “froze all day” and of course the machines are painstaking slow. Not sure why there isn’t a separate line for grab and go beverages. I ordered the crab cake sandwhich with a side of potato salad. Once you pay you are given a number and seat yourself. We sat outside. People who ordered after us got their food before we did. When the sandwhich finally arrived it was more like a crab salad, similar in consistency to tuna salad. It wasnt a “cake” by any means in consistency or form. And it also wasnt hot. Not even room temperature. Being that you already ordered and paid and sat yourself theres no staff coming by or available to help or get refills or anything. I went back inside and stood at the kitchen counter area for a few minutes before flagging someone down to let them know the crab “cake” was cold. Kind of got an “oh. Ok.” And was told I’d get another one brought out to me. Meanwhile my husband ate and finished his lunch in the time I git the replacement crab cake. It wasnt as cold but still wasn’t hot or even warm. My husband’s meal was fair he said. The potato salad I had as a side was good. Also, its not clear to many patrons who walk up from the street to the outdoor dining area that you need to go inside to place your order and that wait staff don’t come around outside to give you menus or take your orders. Several tables around us just sat and sat waiting for a server to come by. It wasn;t until we told them they needed to go inside to place their order that they realized how things worked.

This is a neat little seafood spot on market street. The draw is the oysters and the outdoor patio. If it is a nice day this is a fantastic spot for lunch. Service was fast and friendly and the food came out quickly. Not too expensive and tasted great. The shrimp po boy came on a fluffy roll and it was a great compliment to the raw oysters. The coconut rice is sweet and almost a treat.

Google
Nice hole in the wall with quick quality seafood bites. Real nice staff and very accommodating venue. Both indoor and outdoor dining. We chose indoor because of the wind but still had a great time. The Frozé was a hit and very enjoyable. The salmon bowl is a must!!!! Delicious! Crab cake sandwich was small in size but tasty. Fish sandwich gets a 2/5- not much flavor. Fish tacos get a 3/5. Nicely paired with fries.

Samantha Tinkham

Google
Ordered a beef burger, advertised prominently on their wall outside, what came wasn't the color of beef, much less the taste of beef. They did refund and say these things happen, but grey-brown beef isn't something that happens. Others had seafood and didn't enjoy theirs either. Local tour guide recommended, but this is definitely a business that is still around only because people get hungry on the street and pop in not knowing better

Google
Nice place to get some seafood in downtown Charleston. Service was great. The soft shell crab tacos were amazing, but the ahi tuna bowl was not great. Overall good experience but I would not recommend the bowls.

Rashad Johnson

Google
Stopped by in mid May to order the soft shell crab with fried oysters. They were pretty good. However my fries were almost cold and it wasn’t so busy to over look cold fries. The patio is covered decently with strong fans to combat the heat.

Yelp
This is a great spot to have lunch on King Street! We found the food to be fresh and delicious. There were also a lot of food options on the menu, including some delicacies like the she-crab soup. Their seasoned fries are out of this world and I highly recommend getting them! We sat outside on their patio/outdoor dining area and got great views of King Street while enjoying our food. Service was fast and friendly. Prices were reasonable and good portion sizes. Highly recommend checking this place out if you're looking for a good lunch spot on King Street!

Yelp
10-30-24 Sorry AW Shuck's I should have known better eating at a place where you can smell something fishy while waiting on line to order. I should have followed my nose and left. Instead I went on to order the Special of the Day Shrimp Salad Sandwich that came with a side. I chose Potato Salad at the recommendation of the person taking my order. After visiting the restroom I collected my order and sat outside as it was a beautiful Fall day. The fresh brewed ice tea unsweetened was delicious thus the extra star in my review. As for the sandwich it tasted tangy?'! Perhaps a mayonnaise I am unfamiliar with as I am a Hellman's girl. The potato salad tasted off too so I left it. Not before picking the shrimp out of the bun as well as the slice of tomato. Needless to say my tummy later started grumbling. By the time I got home later in the evening it was stabbing pain. I went to the bathroom where I remained all night. The smell that permeated from the bathroom door killed my husband. Today two days later I am writing this review from bed. Unfortunately this place is a one and done forever for me.

Yelp
Interesting ambiance. Perfect for us just staying one night in Charleston. Great young and courteous staff. My wife and I shared a steam deck platter, crab legs were very good and the seasoning and butter dripped down into the corn, shrimp, and sausage making those items super tasty. Maybe one of the best corn on the cob I have had in a bit because of the sauce that dripped on it. The sausage in the platter was good, nothing fantastic. Shrimp, could have had a few more...but for the price great platter.

Yelp
Was walking by and decided to try something different. You order right when you enter and they bring to your table. Small inside but they have a large outdoor seating area. Fish tacos were delicious. Fish tasted fresh, seasoned well and flaky. They have a spicy slaw on them. Choice of side so I got the French fries. Best fries I've had anywhere in a long time. Perfect amount of seasoning with a slight crunch on outside and soft potatoey center.

Yelp
This was my first time eating at AW Shuck's. I am a HUGE seafood person and decided to give this restaurant a try. I ordered the crab cake sandwich with fries. The crab cake sandwich was tasty. It was NOT filled with bread, I could taste the crab and seasoning which is huge for me! The fries were seasoned well also! If you use cash you get a small discount off on your order, or at least I did. I enjoyed my meal!

Yelp
It's not the ambiance or service you go here for, it's the food. Fast-casual style dining and the food is WONDERFUL. Our table had - Hush puppies app (they're like fried corn bread and the butter is amazing Mini crab cake app Ahi tuna tacos Shrimp po boy Soft shell crab po boy Shrimp tacos

Yelp
I went here on a whim. It was close to my hotel. It was warm enough to eat outside on their awesome patio. The fish tacos are the best I could find in town and I looked high and low. The local manager gave me the name of a a good oyster place, so that helps too!
google avatar

Yelp
Eh.. My husband and I were not a big fan. This was food that we've made better at home. The gravy was very obviously packaged gravy, the grits were too runny. It seemed underwhelming and flavorless. The BBQ Sandwich was not that great. Overall we did not enjoy the place very much. Seating is very limited. It's very small and there were no clear instructions on if you seat yourself or be seated.. (we sat ourself) and then we have to walk up and place our order. Overall it could use some improvement but has the potential to be a nice place. We walked out wishing we had tried a different place.

Yelp
Love this Seafood Shack! My friend and I came here for Second Sunday on King Street and stopped here for lunch. Their fried oyster basket and fried shrimp basket were cooked to perfection! Excellent customer service with a laid back atmosphere!
google avatar

Yelp
Not quite lunch time and not quite dinner time. It was at 3pm when we stopped by for a light bite. I wanted tacos so we ordered the grill shrimp tacos and the redfish. Each order had 2 tacos that were filled with cabbage. The grilled shrimp tacos were very salty. The taco shell was also nothing to rave about, clearly not homemade and was bland. I also got the redfish tacos. Nothing to rave about. The only thing that were delicious were the collard greens! And it came with a huge portion! Very happy about that. Otherwise, this shack is located on the very busy touristy King Street. Would not go again.

Yelp
Popped in for lunch while we visited Charleston. The crab cake burger was excellent and the blacked fish tacos were pretty solid. The service was quick and the server checked in frequently.

Yelp
Really good food and nice setting My order: 6 oysters on the half shell @ $3/shuck Shrimp po boy and fries You order at the front and they bring the food to you. So it's not totally full table service, but they did come by and ask how things were. Oysters were good, from James River. Wish they were flipped before they came out- ended up scraping off the abductor after (tasty) served with cocktail sauce and lemon wedge. Yummy!! Po boy was out of this world- spicy sauce, generous amount of shrimp. However it's served on a hotdog roll. Not my personal fave, but won't hold it against them. Fries were perfect- crispy outside and soft inside. I sat outside on the patio and it was so lovely. Lots of shade as well. I highly recommend. Worth the visit as well- if you can find parking.
google avatar

Yelp
I came to here for a late lunch so it was not packed. The process is to order in the front, get a number and the servers will bring the food to you. The wait for the food was not too long. Customer service was fine. Shrimp tacos with fries: The grilled shrimp within the tacos were really salty. Fries were tasty. I likely wouldn't get the shrimp tacos again.

Yelp
Nice very chill place with nice outdoor seating. Prices are very good and food is delicious. I ordered the ahi tuna bowl and my partner ordered grouper sandwich. We also had crab cakes that were ok, not the best. The rest of the food was super nice. Very low key place with good food.
google avatar

Chelsea F.

Yelp
We loved the casual atmosphere of this location - perfect for a sunny day! The food was delicious, but the servings were small. For the price we paid, we were hoping not to leave hungry... but we were. Just wish you got more for your money!

Deb G.

Yelp
Ordered at counter, sat outside at nice courtyard table. Order was fish (grilled) tacos and crab cake appetizer. Fish in taco was served cold and was rubbery. Crab cakes were way too fishy tasting, definitely not fresh. Threw the food out. Was hoping for different outcome. Sorry to leave bad review but just not good.
google avatar

Christopher D.

Yelp
Stopped by because there was a 90 minute wait across the street, and glad we did. Outdoors is best, indoors is cramped Food was a bit slow, but tasty Mmm shrimp tacos are small with 4 or 5 shrimp , but they were good Crab cake sandwich was also good. Nice for a quick light meal. Would come back

Doug W.

Yelp
Hole in the wall place thats serves good food and good service. Trying to get peel/eat shrimp without old bay is impossible in Charleston except here. Not sure why restaurants cant do that but most dont here. Anyway its worth stopping in. And ask for Oliver! Great kid with super personality.

Eric San J.

Yelp
Came here at lunchtime, around 1:45pm on a Tuesday afternoon. It was quiet and not packed at all, so I decided to hop into the coolness of the place to get out of the sun. The fried oysters were so good. Nice and crispy and lightly fried. The potato salad was excellent! So were the fries. Whatever fryer they had in the back was the magical key to success. The calamari was decently made, nothing to write home about. I also got a plump cheeseburger to top everything off, and that was good, too. You can't mess up a burger, and this place did just fine. I will visit again once I'm back in town.

Yelp
Kinda just so so. Walked by this place and decided to pop in for some seafood. All the staff were extremely friendly and were happy to help us with the menu and it had a nice little outdoor patio for seating. We got 10 oysters and the Charleston Steamer. The oysters were good. I'm not an expert on them, but they were tastey and the horse radish they provided was excellent. The Charleston Steamer however, I don't think was worth the $42. We got two clusters of crab, about 6-7 small shrimp, corn and a few slices of potato and sausage. When I say a few slices I literally mean a few slices. We got maybe half a potato and maybe a third of a hot dogs amount of sausage. Some pieces were about the size of a quarter. For a place with no wait staff and you have to get your own water ( we were served it since the jug it normally was in was out ) I don't feel like it was worth it. All in all it cost us a little over $100 with two beers.

Yelp
Fresh fish sandwich, give you lots of fish, hush puppies were hot and fresh, the spread they serve it with was really good, rice was your typical rice.

Clara S.

Yelp
AW shucks is such a good place to grab lunch on king street while shopping. The food was amazing and great service. I got the Hawaiian Tuna Bowl and loved it!

Lilly M.

Yelp
every thing was delicious. the chef aidan was sublime. clean restaurant. will be returning again.

Patachia F.

Yelp
A local recommended for lunch. It was a nice casual lunch spot and a good place to cool off and people watch from the window front table.

Charles D.

Yelp
Food good and priced fairly. Just beware of expensive sodas -$4.50 a bit much for a bottle of Diet Coke IMO.
google avatar

Daphane F.

Yelp
A little pricey for atmosphere in my opinion but it's to be expected given the location . However food was great and the service was even better honestly. I love the patience the young man had as we ordered and his politeness!
google avatar

Charles L.

Yelp
We ordered shrimp tacos and soft-shell crab tacos. Both tasted the same! The sauce was overpowering with a Cajun kick. Neither the shrimp nor crab had any flavor. Rule #1, which we broke: If a restaurant has a peculiar odor when you enter, it probably is not a good place to eat. Rule #2, which we broke: If the hostess never smiles and simply performs tasks as a robot, it probably is an indication management is poor, the employees don't like working there, and it probably is not a good place to eat. Suggestion: When walking the sidewalk and approaching this restaurant, just say "Aw Shucks" and continue walking.

Yelp
Great fast casual spot if you're looking for more affordable seafood bites in the area. I was a bit skeptical after reading some yelp reviews but honestly, you just have to experience things for yourself sometimes. This was one of those times for me. We decided to order a few different appetizers to share along with the shrimp po boy. Holy cow, we should've brought a larger appetite! The she crab soup was my favorite dish. It was so creamy and flavorful, I didn't mind eating it on a super hot July day. I enjoyed the smoked fish dip as well. The shrimp po boy was decent but again, I wasn't as hungry so the combination of everything was a bit too much-- but still tasty. This place is fast casual dining. You order at the counter, grab your drinks from the fridge and have your number on the table to be served. The staff were helpful and friendly. The place was pretty clean and they label which condiments have been sanitized and which haven't. Overall, a great spot to drop by and grab lunch or a snack if you're in the mood.
google avatar

Nelly L.

Yelp
Nice food for reasonable price. I recommend the po' boy sandwich. Nice terrace- cool place for pet-friendly people.
google avatar

Ara S.

Yelp
Right on King st, the cute outdoor seating pulled me in! My husband and I ordered a combo fried basket with fried oysters, coconut shrimp, and French fries. We also ordered hush puppies. Delicious food! Wasnt very filling though but I guess we did share. The lady at the register was very sweet.
google avatar

Gab G.

Yelp
Stopped in here while waiting to get in at 167 (the only thing better than eating delicious seafood is eating delicious seafood twice in the span of a few hours). Shrimp po boy with asian slaw was amazing - definitely want to return to try more items! They also have outdoor seating.
google avatar

Yelp
Two and a half stars. Not exactly a shack, but Aw Shucks, is a small place with more tables available on the outdoor patio than indoors. Give your order and pay when you enter and a server will bring your food to you. The menu is not huge and features some boils, oysters, and fried seafood We were grateful to sit inside as it was a steamy day in Charleston. In general the food was so so. We all ordered crab cakes in some type of form. I ordered one crab cake with a side of cucumber tomato salad and a side of grits. I have had way better crab cakes. There were very few cucumbers in the salad and the to tomatoes did not taste fresh. I tasted sweet potato and regular fries that came with other means. Although the fries were hot, they were thick and not appealing to me. The best part of my meal was the grits. I enjoyed them but not enough to return for them!
google avatar

Pat B.

Yelp
This is a place where you select your drinks from a cooler (they do have very limited wine in small bottles and a few beers), place your order at the counter, pick up your own condiments, find your own table and then they deliver it to you. We ordered grouper bites which were cooked perfectly. I did subtract points for the pre packaged tarter sauce. Then we tried the blackened grouper tacos and a crab patty sandwich. Both were very good. The sides we selected were cucumber tomato salad which needed some vinegar and potato salad.
google avatar

Jennie T.

Yelp
We stopped here for a wonderful lunch as we were site seeing Charleston. We loved the huge patio that was dog friendly. We were able to get a table for 5 and a dog pretty quickly on a Sunday afternoon. I had the Hawaiian Ahi Tuna bowl and it was fresh and delicious. We also had the Ahi tuna tacos, one of which was ordered gluten free and were lettuce wrapped. The cornbread hush puppies were like sweet donuts that we dipped in honey butter- OMG, get some!! The crab cake sandwich was less than so- so according to my husband. He would not recommend it. Anyway, you order at the counter, and the runners will deliver to your table.
google avatar

Lindsey N.

Yelp
Overall probably wouldn't return. Everything left something to be desired. Chicken tenders, potato salad, bbq pulled pork, hush puppies were raw on the inside. I really wanted to like it.
google avatar

Vy D.

Yelp
AW Shucks replaced the old Kitchen 208 near my work - I decided to pop in today for lunch to take back to the office. You order at the hostess stand then take a seat. The place has one large table at the front window and smaller tables throughout. I believe they still have the patio but upon asking, dogs aren't allowed (yet). Everything was clean looking. Food: I ordered two shrimp tacos, one grilled and one fried. I thought both were really tasty, would have liked to see 4-5 shrimp in each taco but I understand seafood are pricey. The value was still there. I'm always glad to see lunch places where I can pick up a lunch for around $10 before tax and gratuity (after tax and gratuity I try to stay under $15). The old bay chips that came with the tacos were awesome! Crispy and the right amount of seasoning. Hushpuppies - awesome!! My coworkers and I loved the sweetness. I'd return!

Valerie G.

Yelp
Food was not worth the price. She crab soup was subpar, calamari was rubbery, chicken strips were just your standard frozen variety and flavorless. DO NOT BUY THE BOTTLED SODA or water price gouging for sure...$3.50 for a Dasani, yikes. Ambiance was ok and staff were friendly.

Debbie K.

Yelp
The food was decent, but I feel like for Charleston it's pretty subpar. Our waitress was nice, there was a manager going around yelling at all of them though that ruined it for me. The spot doesn't look amazing, and it's fairly small.
google avatar

Jamie W.

Yelp
We stopped in here while shopping on King Street today. So glad we did!! Both the hubs & I had a Shrimp Po' Boy sandwiches. The remoulade sauce was very good! (Better than Fleet Landings sauce). The shrimp were good size and delicious. The side of fries were crunchy and tasty. We also got a basket of hush puppies. The hubs dipped his in extra remoulade sauce and I tried the cinnamon butter. I wished it was a house made spread - but it still tasted darn good. The outdoor seating was perfect! It was a very enjoyable experience. We will definitely stop here again sometime.
google avatar

Greg T.

Yelp
Nice casual spot to grab freshly prepared seafood and raw shellfish. Oysters were delicious and dirt cheap at a little over $1 each. Tuna tacos were fresh and a nicely cooked medium. Tasty order of seasoned fries on the side. Small but interesting selection of local beers available.
google avatar

Ray K.

Yelp
This place is an excellent option to get seafood downtown. Get your order in and find plenty of seating. The shrimp and grits dish was good if you like savory gravy. Also the blackened fish taco is excellent, combined with the potato salad for a good spicy taste. Great service with reasonable prices.
google avatar

Lori C.

Yelp
Crab cakes at excellent They actually have crab in them. If you are in Charleston South Carolina is it a must
google avatar

Mark Z.

Yelp
This little walk up spot had great service. The blonde cashier had great knowledge of the restaurant menu and offered me several recommendations. If this review was purely service based, she would have earned at least 5 stars. She was young, friendly and helpful. The food was really just ok. Not bad and not good. I had the combo fish basket and the she crab soup. I had red fish and soft shell crab and for me it was just ok. I probably shouldn't order a fry basket and then complain about quality, and it was still very edible. I just wouldn't return. If I did I would stick to the taco scene. The soup was good, but I wouldn't return for the soup either. Good value spot to grab a quick bite and get back out shopping.
google avatar

Lauren K.

Yelp
Great little spot located downtown next to our hotel. Fast-casual restaurant perfect to grab a bite to eat in between meals. First time trying a Shrimp Po' Boy sandwich and it did not disappoint! It was fresh, tasty and great portion size. The grits were cheesy, just how I like 'em! Unfortunately, the ice machine wasn't working in order conserve water for the hotel next door so had to purchase a beverage out of the fridge. Not huge deal but would have liked a fountain drink.
google avatar

Christina W.

Yelp
I've walked by this restaurant many times and ignored it because of the long lines and seemingly chain-restaurant-feeling I got. After walking around downtown Charleston recently my girls and I needed a place to rehydrate and snack on something. We got the strawberry frosé (cold & refreshing with a nice lil buzz!), hush puppies (hot and delectable and delicious with a side of honey butter...yum!) and the she crab soup (out of this world good!) Servers were all kind and friendly and looked like they actually liked working there. Outside area was clean, shady and perfect for chatting and people watching. Can't believe I passed up on this place so many times...never again!

Mandy I.

Yelp
Super friendly, tasty and affordable eating right on kings street. We had the chicken sandwich with fries, red fish tacos - small but great and cucumber slaw.

Hannah T.

Yelp
highly recommend!!! I ordered the Redfish Taco (Blackened) & the Shrimp Taco (Grilled). We have had our fair share of tacos at other places but this restaurant is now one of our favorites to pick up a couple of tacos!! The staff were friendly & service was quick! We did come around 2 so they were not very busy. We definitely will be coming back!!

Kimberly R.

Yelp
Awesome food, awesome service. The shrimp and grits was excellent. The shrimp boil had gigantic shrimp. The cold crab dip was so tasty. I did have to get extra Old Bay, but I'm from the Old Bay state of MD, so we got to have extra!! The only downside side, if any, is they only sell bottled drinks, but that was ok because the food made up for it. The food comes out really quick, too. If you are in Charleston for any amount of time, make sure you visit this place!! It really does have you saying "Aw Shucks"!!

Yelp
Nothing much open on Wednesday before Thanksgiving on King St. so we had to have a bite to eat and found this place. Ordered shrimp tacos, two tacos in each order and three shrimp on each taco, flavor was ok but nothing to write home about it or not even close to the Bone Fish Ban Ban shrimp tacos, not a full service restaurant and for 11 bucks value just not there. 3.5 stars makes me feel that I am making the same effort to please. the day before I had a fabulous lunch for 12 bucks at a french cafe around the corner, a chicken, avocado and bacon crepe that was out of this world. Competition Willing to try again if something improves
