The Best Speakeasies in Houston | Eater Houston

"Behind a candy shop loaded with classic treats is this new Spring Branch speakeasy. Live music and a beautiful backdrop with snazzy decor make for the perfect ambiance to enjoy cocktails like the rich Wonka-tini, a mix of creme de vanilla, Licor 43, heavy cream, and Ghiradelli white chocolate garnished with fine chocolate, or the mezcal- and pineapple-loaded Gold Escalade. Wine, beer, and Champagne are also available, but if you’re looking for a quick launch to the night, start with its buzzy shots, like its Moraditas, made with tequila, orange liqueur, lime, and orange bitters." - Brittany Britto Garley

One of my favorite speakeasy cocktail bar in Houston. Aye Candy is an absolute vibe. From the moment you walk in, you’re hit with bold colors, playful energy, and a clear sense of style that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Whether you’re there for the eye-catching fashion, the custom pieces, or just browsing for fun, everything feels curated with attitude and edge. The staff? Super friendly and hyped to help you find something that screams you. Prices are fair for the quality and creativity you’re getting — this isn’t your basic fast fashion. If you’re looking to stand out, Aye Candy isn’t just a store — it’s a statement.

Service was wonderful. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, they made lovely suggestions. The drinks were delicious and very affordable. A medium board was perfect for two people. The vibe was sexy and fun. The music invited you to dance without being too loud. Great for a cozy conversation. Location is definitely hidden away and convenient for those on the west side of town that don't necessarily want to come downtown. Hopefully, it will become a staple in the Houston speakeasy scene

Google
Love Aye Candy. We love coming here and getting a drink or two and a bite to eat. They have great music for us millennials and the drinks are exotic enough to make you feel like you’re on vacation. We order the Watermelon High and the Ancho Pancho every time. They are delish.

I visited late on a Friday night, around 11:30 pm. The crowd was thinning, but I was seeking relaxation, and Aye Candy delivered perfectly. This lounge has a fantastic atmosphere. Reservations are required, but everything from the service to the friendly, positive energy made me feel like I was on cloud nine. I enjoyed the charcuterie board along with the Espresso Flor martini and Vanilla Old Fashion drinks—every bite and sip was divine. The music and vibes were excellent. I’ll definitely be returning!

Google
This place is tucked in an unexpected part of town, but that’s the exciting thing about speakeasy bars. It’s valet parking only and be sure to make a reservation. The cocktails were delicious especially the cocosol which I’m already craving to have again. The service was amazing. Kim was our waitress and was very attentive and nice. If you’re bored of the inner loop bar scene, this is a great alternative to enjoy with a date or friends.

Google
Great Speakeasy! Reservations required. Valet parking only. Exit out the back. We got free movie tickets for “Black Bag”

Google
When we first drove up, valet had cones all over the parking lot. It was only $10 but the area doesn't really merit valet or having to walk from the next shopping strip over. Not sure if they were gonna try charging a cover once we got in, so we ended our night elsewhere. Photos of the place look cool.

Google
We finally tried this place last night. The drinks are really good. I strongly recommend the Watermelon High. The charcuterie board was also nice. However, the service left A LOT to be desired. We nearly finished our entire charcuterie board before Lanry came to get our next drink orders. The only reason he finally returned is because I had to go ask the owner (woman) if we could be waited on after watching Lanry walk past our empty glasses countless times. Lanry is also a bit condescending; that was off-putting. The woman owner is very kind and responsive. The man owner is neither warm nor rude, but he could probably be a touch friendlier to customers. I was paying attention to how he talked to people checking in while I was waiting on my date. Despite the poor service, we decided to try 5 different cocktails, and we were pretty happy with each of them. I didn't get a pic of the vanilla old fashion, but that was a second favorite. In summary, great atmosphere, great drinks, great decor, subpar service.

Yelp
AyeCandy is a cute and quaint cocktail bar located in the Spring Branch area of Houston. Because I decided to visit on a weeknight, parking was plentiful, but I would imagine on a weekend this being a potential issue. When I made it into the Speakeasy itself, I was struck by how beautiful it was inside. The music was not too loud, the focal point in the space (the bar) was well lit and designed and I loved the overall ambiance. Bartenders made the drinks really well and I was able to try a few drinks including: The Gold Escalade- While Mezcal does not work well in most drinks, pairing it with the pineapple and egg white balanced out that strong smoky flavor. The presentation was beautiful and I'd definitely get this again. Cocosol- The hibiscus salt rim gives this drink a really interesting look. I am a sucker for anything coconut flavored and this drink did not disappoint. Aesthetically beautiful, especially with the flower garnish. A touch on the sweeter side, but overall another solid creation. Overall I had a great experience and would absolutely visit again.

Yelp
If you're a single man, why are you not here? My church group came here - bare with me now - and we went for good ol' fun. Plus I introduced them to another speakeasy in town, so they wanted to impress me. Y'all, single ladies, I feel for you. There were so many pretty single girls and no dudes. The only guys there were with us or guys in my group who were not actively looking for a single lady. And they were so young and pretty! Or maybe this is just a place for girls, I don't know. While I think they could bother making a better candy store before the speakeasy and the parking is atrocious, the ambiance was so delightful I forgave it. We went and had a great time. My friend ordered this candy charcuterie board, which was super cute and tasty. I ordered a drink, and although I usually don't, the girly-frilly drinks won me over. No one was a sloppy drunk; everyone was just having a good time, and it seemed like every other group there was genuinely happy, and that's rare to see in bars/restaurants nowadays, an entirely happy place. With the happy-go-lucky vibe, the cute people, and the fun drinks, you should come here. It's too pretty and girly for you not to check it out, which is probably why guys don't come here, but they should!

Yelp
I had really high hopes for this place. I travel often and love going to speakeasies in other cities and was looking forward to one in Houston. The bartenders seem to be more drink-makers than mixologists. I asked them for recommendations because I don't do added sugar. I've had great results with other bars where the bartender will work with me to make something. Here, they just kept going back to the menu and saying that's all they had. It's like the only drinks they knew how to make were the ones in the menu. No critical thinking/creativity. Like other reviewers commented, I find it interesting that they charge $2 more for a drink "neat" (no ice). What?!? Why does that matter? Seems like a weird way to upcharge. Parking is small and only valet. I personally dislike anyone driving my car but me. Ambience is good. Decor was decent and the space was laid out well. Music was fine. We didn't have reservations so we just stood at the bar.

Yelp
Loved this speakeasy! Great ambiance and vibe. It can be easily overlooked when looking for the lot. When we arrived using the GPS it took us to the lot next door. They offer free valet parking which was great because the lot next door was definitely sketchy. We were able to book a reservation the same day. We went it and was seated at the bar until out table was ready. Service was great. I was waiting to get my order taken and the manager saw me and served us. We were seated shortly after and got our first round of drinks. Presentation was great. All the drinks looked beautiful. My favorite was definitely the gin and tonic and the lychee shots! Our group of 4 was able to catch up although music got loud from time to time. I can't say how impressed I was with the service. They were so attentive and condtantly checked in on you. Definitely recommend and would be back.

Yelp
This is an amazingly well designed look and feel. I love this speak easy vibe. It's kind of easy to miss from the street so make sure you look for the blue and white stripes. It looks like a little house in the front of a tiny shopping center. But it doesn't disappoint. Parking is valet only btw but I can't remember the amount (might be tips?). You walk into the candy shop and then you're taken in to the actual bar. I will say that it looks pretty upscale, but the patrons were pretty relaxed in dress. The music was chilled R&B and pop, which I enjoyed. Very laid back overall, but I'd personally dress cute. It's Instagram worthy. The craft cocktails are so pretty and really tasty. I liked everything I had but I don't think they're strong for the price. We ordered a charcuterie board and that was the only thing I didn't care for from a quality perspective. There are better meat and cheese options. Their focus is cocktails, not food so there were really only a couple of options, and the charcuterie board was the most substantial optional. So, I wouldn't go hungry; eat first lol. Perfect for a girls night or date night. And there was a large party coming in when I left so it might be good for a larger size group too. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
The concept of this speakeasy was nice but I expected more. Valet is available which is nice to have in Houston. The host when we arrived was friendly and pleasant. The wait staff was just as friendly which was great. However, their cocktail menu was not exciting. Since I didn't see anything I would like on the drink menu I keep it simple and ordered a lemon drop. The lemon drop was decent. I also was not a fan of the music playlist. The playlist did not match the vibe of the speakeasy. With a new playlist and better cocktail options I think this would be a nice place to visit again

Yelp
Came here for the first time with my Yelp Gals on a Saturday evening with a resy. A secret Speakeasy hidden by a fun candy shop. Parking could be better, it's in a commercial shopping strip. Fancy-ish new bar for the Spring branch crowd and beyond. Although I dont think there's a dress code, it would be cool if they did, to elevate the experience. But they probably don't want to exclude anyone. Anyway, lots of different bar seating, couches, and tables to lounge in. I mostly saw small groups and folks on dates. Didn't see any solo folks, it may not be that type of place. It is nicely designed & decorated with mood lighting. Service - has potential for improvement. Larne was our server, a handsome young chap. He must be a big deal as he had a specialty cocktail-of-the month on the menu. The tiramisu essepresso martini. I think he was pretty swamped with tables, so I will give him that. It was slow going service. We had to just ask for the bottle of water to be placed on our table so we wouldn't have to keep asking and going empty on our water. There was a mix-up with our individual bills at the end of the night, but he worked it out. Drinks - I enjoyed my first cocktail for the most part. I had the Gold Escalade, which is probably a safe bet if your reading this review prior to going. My second, I got the CocoSol. I should have paid more attention to the description of this drink because it had coconut in it, which I'm not a fan. But it wasn't too bad. I think as a group, some enjoyed the drinks more than others, not an overall win for everyone. I will say the bathroom is gorg. My friend ordered the charcuterie board for herself, but we all ended up snacking on it, good nosh!

Yelp
Loved it all. Bartenders were very attentive. Cocktails were amazing. Ambience was great. It's a perfect date spot. There were a lot of couples there. Comfy seating for groups of maybe 4 or 5 but a lot of couple seating. Loved everything about it.

Yelp
We didn't know that we needed reservations but now we do. Cute candy shop that leads into a very small bar. The people are nice but the bar staff could be better. We orders drinks with a waitress and it took almost 20mins to get our drinks mind you a couple who arrived after us got drinks before we did and they did not have e reservations. My espresso martini was good but not in my top 5. All in all I will go back but with reservations to see the difference.

Yelp
Aye Candy takes you on a thrilling journey into a candy shop that leads you to a hidden door to an enchanting speakeasy. Please do not be taken back by the area or placement of this spot! The valet is free, but make sure to give these guys a tip. They are awesome. This speakeasy houses a poshly advanced lounge/bar area I have seen around Houston in some time. My 2 friends and I were in Awe. The downfall is that it took over 25 minutes to receive our drink and charcuterie board. Lanry made sure to correct this, and he was a great help! Super nice and attentive. I ordered their vanilla old fashion. (Because I LOVE a good old fashion) I didn't taste any hints of vanilla, there was no signs of a smoked orange peel. The drink was "heavy." It's not my favorite old fashion, but it got the job done. The other drinks my friends ordered were also just okay. I did recognize how delicately the bartenders decorated each drink with care. Amazing how beautiful and unique they made each drink. Another huge plus! I would say what fully seperates this gem is the immaculate ambiance and amazing live saxophone player. 100% made us enjoy this night so much. Everything from the decor to fun, hidden entry way leading to this posh spot was something to remember. Highly recommended for a new and fun speakeasy vibe in Houston! Until next time, Aye Candy!

Yelp
I love a speakeasy! This location is a bit ducked off from the usual night-life areas. I came after a an evening at city center. There is complimentary valet parking and free reservations. I did research ahead of time and was able to snag a resi for 6 the same night I went. The reservation process was simple on open table. I'm not sure if there is ample seating without a reservation as the bar was pretty full when we arrived. I loved the ambiance and the candy shop is super cute. However, it kind of fell short after that. The drinks were not well mixed. The spicy marg tasted like hot sauce and the expresso martini lacked the coffee flavor. The music could also use some improvement. I'm not a big fan of techno/edm mixes. I probably won't be back but it was nice to experience and it was very vibey as the kids say.

Yelp
Did a 24 hours in a city: Houston edition. I have done a lot in Houston but I also haven't done a lot either. Plus it's Houston, new restaurants and activities to do on a daily. Found this gem on TikTok and wow!! Such a wonderful experience. They have only been open for 5 weeks and I am so happy I got the experience that I got. Definitely glad I flew in and tried this spot. I've been getting more and more into Speakeasy's lately, and this was a good good one! Service= outstanding! I was running 5 minutes late and they called me to make sure everything was okay, and if I was still coming! I appreciate businesses that care about their customers. I think the only parking is valet parking, so be prepared to pay for parking just in case. As you walk in, you're greeted by a really kind host, they open the door and "voula," you walk into royalty. Everything is clean, well put together. Love color scheme and the decor. Definitely gives quality, chic luxury vibes. I went on the Fourth of July, and I am so happy because it was a nice, chill crowd. Was able to get the vibes of the spot! Also gives me NY vibes. I had the Espresso Martini and I wanted to try it with Tequila. Winner winner. First time having and wow, just think I just found my new favorite drink. So good and the drinks weren't that expensive. The general Manager was extremely kind. Asked for our feedback, engaged with us and really made our time memorable. We will definitely be back and I will definitely tell my clients about this spot when visiting Houston. Giving a five star . Will try again and update.

Yelp
We dropped in recently for a pre-dinner drink and decided to stay for two. This new, intimate speakeasy lounge in East Spring Branch is another welcome addition to the growing food and beverage offerings. When we arrived at 6pm there were several groups of two enjoying the dark, yet elegantly lit seating area. Service was attentive and the drinks were good. The music was a chill R&B vibe for the first 30 minutes before an owner arrived and had the staff switch to a more House vibe. That seemed to deviate some from the speakeasy concept. All things considered, I'm glad to see more business owners take a bet on this side of Spring Branch. Drop in before or after dinner.
google avatar

Evelyn L.

Yelp
Who would've thought spring branch would get a speakeasy LIKE THIS? I came here for a girls night and I thought this place was nice. From the minute you walk in - it smelled so refreshing. Loved all the candy at the front! The drinks were strong (love that hehe) and the service was very friendly. Bathrooms were really really clean. We were told that they have a DJ that comes at 10pm and plays house music which is always a PLUS. The valet was weird though but other than that, I think this a great speakeasy to check out.
google avatar

Anika A.

Yelp
Aye Candy is a beautiful, sophisticated speakeasy. I appreciate the establishment embodying the true nature of a speakeasy with a hidden door and that the overall vibe is chill, relaxing and still hip with music at a medium to low volume so in order to still hold conversation. Music choice that night was primarily modern house music. The play on the candy store theme is neat. When they bring out the check they also bring out lollipops too which is a thoughtful touch. I ordered the Ancho Pancho as my first drink which was well made, pretty sweet but also had a kick of spice with the tamarin rim. For my second drink, I had the Aye Candy Gin & Tonic which is a beautiful drink (forgot to take a pic) but it's a pretty lavender color with edible flowers. I was wanting my second drink to be less sweet so I'm glad the gin helped balance out my palate. They do take reservations which is probably best to do in order to guarantee a seat/table but there's plenty of standing room and a few chairs at the bar as well.

Yelp
First time here, so far so good! A hidden gem! Let the fun begin! Im excited to try a new place
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome speakeasy. The vibes are immaculate. This place makes for a great spot for drinks and conversation. It's very snazzy and intimate. The bartenders do an amazing job - my friends and I enjoyed the drinks and the bartender customized a couple cocktails to specifically suit our tastes. On weekends, I'd highly recommend reserving a table (for free) in advance otherwise, it's standing room at the bar only. All around my friends and I had a great experience except when it came to the valet. The valet is free/ tip only, but the valet guys tried to charge us $20 when we first pulled into the parking lot. Highly Recommend but beware of Valet.
google avatar

Krys K.

Yelp
Very nice and intimate speakeasy. Give the candy shop vibe until you enter the hidden door. Drinks are wonderful and they do have charcuterie boards

Abby G.

Yelp
Sucked! Parking lot it's small very trashy and 10.00 only valet! You go in and the place is just like a bedroom. Charges you 30% on gratuity on 2 people and it took 15min. To get a drink!!!! Telling all my friends that wanted to try it, not to!!!! It's not even worth a star but if you don't give it a star it won't post! It's -6 stars!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
I love the concept! Vibe was on point. Loved the diversity of people in the room, the music, the decor. We were two and didn't have a reservation but were on the earlier side arriving at 8pm. We got a nice table that was great for people and bar watching. Service was impeccable. Servers were kind, charming, and attentive. The cocktails were solid, but I'd encourage some leveling up given this is the primary focus. We had the Golden Escalade and the Ancho Pancho - both were good. The mezcal was subtle and well balanced with the other ingredients. Pancho was a touch too sweet for me. Granted we've had some damn good cocktails in our lifetime. Part of it I'm sure is scaling to get drinks out timely - they came quickly and were beautiful. BUT if the owners are open to inspiration recommend you all checking out Arraun in San Sebastián (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Dwy7PrPhiqjh81cH8?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy). It's the best cocktail bar we've ever been to and is legit mind blowing. Such a nice gem to have in the Branch! Kudos!
google avatar

Eric J.

Yelp
The vibes/ambiance of Aye Candy were very swanky and cool, with a nice bit of showiness to the presentation. This made it all the more pleasantly surprising that the drinks were also quite good! Between the four of us, we tried 3/4 of the signature cocktails on the menu, and liked them all as there was something for everyone. The Royale was refreshing (great starter drink), the Gold Escalade had a nice smokiness to it, the Old Fashioned was well made and well balanced, and the Cocosol had a nice creaminess. The Espresso Martini was okay, and I strongly suspect it's made using cold brew concentrate instead of espresso as stated on the menu (if that's case, accuracy may be appreciated as it does make a difference in taste). With all that being said, something about the experience was just incredibly off-putting. The impression was given that they relish in the ability to turn people away, in the interest of exclusivity I assume. The moment we walked it, first words from the bouncer were "Sorry, we are reservations only". Obviously we did have a reservation. Also, saw several people turned away for dress code infractions as the bouncer just seemed to pick at anything to turn people away for. At the time of our visit, no specific details relating to the dress code were shared in the reservation/business page/etc. (This has since been updated on the OpenTable description, which is great for planning your visit). No chill when it comes to dress code though. Apparently going for a LV/Miami night club type policy.

Yelp
Great place for happy hour. Good drinks and boards. Service is friendly and prompt. It's a small place, great for conversation.

Yelp
Great ambiance and design. Drinks are tasty and very unique. The charcuterie board was super packed and surprising filling. They give you colorful lollipops with your check which is a super nice touch considering the storefront.

Florence G.

Yelp
A friend told us about Aye Candy and we decided to Check it out. We tried to make reservations online but all table booked. Upon arrival, we (4 people) were seated immediately. We had a good time and enjoyed the atmosphere, service, and drinks. I am giving a review because of the irregularities I noted on my bill. When we got home upon looking over the receipt, we found the they charged us for additional drinks we did not consume. Unbeknownst to us The bill included 20% gratuity- and we added 20% gratuity - that equates to a 40% tip. One person in our party ordered a bourbon "neat" and one ordered bourbon "on the rocks". They added $2 extra for neat and $2 extra for rocks in addition to the cost of the bourbon (weird). A 2-hour visit at the speakeasy cost us double of what we paid for dinner prior to arrival. I would rather they charge a cover instead of Ripping me off by nickel and dimming me for ice or not ice and adding ghost drinks to My tab!!!! Overall, I am giving this establishment a 2 out of 5 for ripping off their client.

Yelp
Tried going here with a group of 5-6 friends. They would not allow us in because someone was in shorts?? Everyone was dressed very nicely but they simply refused and caused a scene. DO NOT GO HERE!!!

Alivia J.

Yelp
Went here for a birthday celebration with my Husband. Valet was complimentary so that was nice, parking looked a little suspicious. Drinks were amazing! The charcuterie was the best I have very had truly. Beware of the dress code however it does add to the ambiance and the upscale feel. Would definitely recommend for a private date.

Mark S.

Yelp
The drinks were good however the parking situation is silly and the auto 20% tip is also a bit silly. We had 4 drinks total and the bill was around $80ish. Being forced to tip the first time you visit, which most people will be visiting for the first time, is a really bad precedent in my opinion, and the main reason I will never go back (although I did enjoy my two drinks). I just don't think I should be forced to tip a certain amount when ordering cocktails- and as such I'm happy to make cocktails at home. Also one of my friends was denied entrance for wearing jeans with a few holes. Granted the IG page mentions dress code but she was dressed very nicely not trashy at all, and denying entrance to someone who would get into any other bar in Houston (and a very attractive female at that) and was going to buy 2-3 drinks is over the top. My server was nice. The ambiance was nice. However for these reasons my friends and I won't be back.

Gordon L.

Yelp
Not the place to be. First off seating is not comfortable. Ambiance is nice but the space itself is not really functional. The food option. Which there is only one, is subpar. Charcuterie boards as the only food option is not a good look. Drinks take forever to get out. We tried several some came without all the ingredients stated on menu. This made a noticeable difference. We were only made aware after we stated the drink was off. Why not treat the customer as a guest you want to return. Instead of viewing them as a credit card transaction. We will not be returning. Keep the customer first.

Delia H.

Yelp
Really enjoyed this place. The ambience is nice & cozy. The charcuterie board & drinks well delicious. The service was great. The music selection was excellent. 10/10 recommend

Yelp
Amazing cocktail, attentive bartender, beautiful ambiance!! Definitely will come back

Yelp
i Went on a saxophone night and the artist was fantastic. she was dj too, so the transition from the music to the saxophone was smooth; With a little bit of her own singing. overall a great time.

Yelp
Dress Code - Bar on Bingle and Longpoint doesn't allow guys to wear shorts in the summer in Houston...I'm sure the drinks are great, but I wouldn't know because I couldn't go in.
