We had breakfast at Nick’s Diner in Surprise, AZ and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish! The food was fresh, hot, and delicious—true comfort food done right. Everything tasted homemade, from the fluffy pancakes to the perfectly cooked eggs. What made our visit even better was our waitress, Denise (aka “De”). She was absolutely wonderful—friendly, attentive, and made us feel like regulars even though it was our first time. De went above and beyond to make sure our coffee cups were always full and that we had everything we needed. The diner itself has a clean, welcoming vibe and a menu full of classic favorites. If you’re in the area and craving a great breakfast with top-notch service, Nick’s Diner is the spot. We’ll definitely be back—and we’ll be asking for De!

We were looking to try a new breakfast place today and stumbled upon AZ Diner. We got up the front and got seated fairly quickly. No wait. I ordered a Vietnamese and a breakfast discourse platter of pancake with egg and bacon. My husband tried the briquettes French toast. And we got a side of home fries. The food was delicious! My only knock off a star comes from the Vietnamese coffee. It took forever to get the rest brewed. I gave up eventually because it was getting cold. Unsure if it was the filter or the amount of coffee that was inside which prevented it to keep flowing. But, that was the only thing that I would say didn’t meet the bar. We would highly recommend. Our bill came out $31 which I didn’t think was bad at all in today’s prices.

Hello all, and to all a good morning. We went here the other day to try it out on a whim. Parking is packed because everyone is there eating and now I know why. This is my new go to spot for breakfast albeit that is all I have tried thus far. I had the meat lovers omelet with home potatoes and a pancake. My girl had a steak with home potatoes and a scrambled egg. This food reminds me of how Grandma used to cook for us. I don't say that lightly either. Prices are reasonable, food is great, and it is very spacious on the inside but there is standing room only, because every table is happily eating just as we were. Go with confidence!!!

Came here around 1100 for breakfast on a Sunday and although it was very busy everything was great. Food: The food came out pretty quickly and everything was just as ordered. It was fresh, hot, and seasoned well. I had the #10 corned beef hash which is clearly homemade and well done. My husband had the #4 sausage plate with potato pancakes and the potato pancakes were a hit with everyone! Service: The service was very good. It was extremely busy but the hostess got our name quickly and the estimated wait time was pretty accurate and not too long. Our waitress greeted us quickly and let us know she would be back shortly as she was running around tending to many tables. Although it was a little wait before we got our orders in she was precise and friendly. The food came quickly after ordering and she was attentive after we got our food and made sure we had what we needed. Atmosphere: Atmosphere was busy but positive. No one was unhappy in the lobby about their wait times as they were pretty reasonable. No frustrated customers or employees, everyone was enjoying their Sunday. 🙂

I hate paying premium pricing for mediocre food. I get it it’s a diner. But when you pay $20 for a dish it should be as you ordered it. I asked for my eggs Poached soft and it’s a non runny yolk hard boiled egg. This place is always a disappointment. And they add gratuity on the ticket, that’s lame for the customer and server. I normally tip more for pick up. If a breakfast spot can’t pouch an egg then that should tell you all you need to know. This isn’t the first time and I’m done complaining to the restaurant itself,

Google
Four + 1/2 Stars 🌟 with my first visit for breakfast on Sunday, February 23rd. Took a seat at the counter as they were busy, and people were waiting to sit at a table. The menu is rather large with a lot going on. I settled for the Spinach & Feta Omelet that came with home fried potatoes and toast (biscuit). $13.95. I had water and a large O.J. ($4.25) with my meal. The omelet was fine. Fresh spinach, and feta cheese. Not a fluffy omelet as it was prepared on the griddle. Still a large omelet made with three eggs. I thought I’d try the cinnamon roll. That was a mistake of monstrous proportions, because it’s HUGE! It was good; with loads of icing. Others oohed and ahhed at the sight of it. Honestly, you could feed four on this monstrous treat ($8.99). I boxed the pastry for home. Before settling my tab I ordered two soups To Go. The soup of the day was lemon chicken and rice soup. The Greeks would call this Ovgolemono soup. They were $4.79 each for 16 oz servings. Well worth taking home, and easy to reheat. The soup is delicious. Everything was enjoyed, and the service was very good. Total before tax was $36.77. Parking is ample as it was Sunday. Seating is spacious, and the restaurant is clean; including the restrooms. This was a very nice discovery as I’m new to the area. I’m looking forward to trying more of the menu. Update: Came back Monday for breakfast, and had the corned beef hash (Tasha Touch $14.89). It was good, and as I paid my check I grabbed two soups to go. One chicken noodle; the other lemon chicken and rice. Both were good soups… the chicken noodle tasted a bit salty. Tab for breakfast was about $18.64 before the soups and tax. Total for the day was $30.99. Update: Came back Tuesday. I wanted to try their Belgium Waffle (Belly Dimples $9.99). Sides of sausages ($3.79) and two eggs ($3.99) were added. Everything was good. With a fountain beverage the tab came to $23.63 after tax.

Today I had a pleasure of meeting the owner Joe. He walked around visiting with every table, making sure that things were great. We sat down and looked at the menu and it was difficult to decide because everything looked so good. One of the best menu layouts I have seen in any eating establishment after my 20+years in the food service industry. Our food came out, and we were surprised at how quick it was brought to our table. Giant portions of fresh hot and delicious food. Best part about the day is that my waitress Birdie did an exceptional job, coffee was always hot and refilled before I ever needed it. Great job Nick’s

Google
Yummy greek food! There is many options on the menu. The food is tasty and big portioned! Similar to a dennys in the environment. Food is good but could be more seasoned. Will be back!

Yelp
Great overall experience. The servers are very prompt, friendly and attentive. This was our first visit and we decided to sit at the bar for dinner. It was fun and relaxing with the food coming out fast, fresh and nicely presented. Has the Gyro Dinner Plate and Not So Greek Salad. Both were delicious. Turns out we picked the right day of the week for our first visit . . . Friday. We each received a complimentary slice of pie for dessert. We had a slice of peach and a slice of cherry. We will definitely return to try other item on the menu.

Yelp
It's a little confusing finding this place because the sign outside says Nick's II. I guess that's the old name . I've been here before for breakfast and I enjoyed it. Now it's time to try the oil you can eat Friday fish fry! This place has a nice diner vibe and is very welcoming. $25.99 is on the high end of what most places are a charging for all you can eat cod but not unreasonable. Especially since this fish is good and the service is above average. I was told the fish is Alaskan cod. It was a little greasy, but not too bad. The tartar sauce, coleslaw and french fries were just mediocre. The servers are great and fish refills were faster than most places. And guess what, I got a free slice of pie when I was finished. How can you beat that? I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
I would've given this place 5 stars but our server was helping everybody but us.. we waited 45 minutes for our food but once we got it, it was delicious! We also had spoke to the owner about the wait and the server and he gave us one of his HUGE cinnamon rolls for free since the food took a long time. Overall it was a good experience.

Yelp
We found this amazing diner on Yelp. After looking over the menu I realized this was the place to go. The diner (I use the term loosely) was bright, clean and in spite of being packed was quiet. We were seated quickly and our server was there to take our drink order. The menu is packed with standard diner options along with some great specials. I had to have the open face roast beef with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The gravy was what I expected from a diner, dark brown and tasty. My wife had eggs and potato pancakes. Tasty all around. If you are in Phoenix area this is a great side trip.

Yelp
AZ Diner is definitely a solid contender in an area peppered with other choices in diner's. The place is spacious with modest decor. We were seated quickly and our drink orders were taken without delay. What impressed me the most was the huge menu with page after page of great looking offerings. I opted for the liver & onions, mashed potatoes & gravy and green beans. The liver was good, but prefer onion strings rather than diced onions. The mashed potatoes were pretty stellar, but unfortunately the green beans seemed steamed and tasted raw. I couldn't eat those at all. My wife had the Gyro and a Greek salad. She thought they were pretty good. With so many great offerings, good service and reasonable prices, I wouldn't hesitate to visit again.

Yelp
Food was great. Service was great. This place is clean. This is the rose I made for my server.

Yelp
AMAZING! Our whole group walked out feeing the same - this is a place to go! Delicious food with generous portions. Excellent service from everyone we encountered. Fun vibes. Order anything - you really can't go wrong! Hope to be back soon!!

Yelp
Love this place. Great food. Great atmosphere. Great service. Great place. Their breakfast is awesome. Dinner is very taste. Used to be Nicks but still great

Yelp
I am a long time customer and have enjoyed the food and service for many years. Was there on a Saturday this past week and was quite disappointed. Eggs Benedict Hollandaise had the consistency of library paste, fried potatoes tasted like rancid grease. Grandsons waffle was crispy on the outside but pasty inside and his potatos also tasted like rancid grease. Service however was impeccable. I will not be back based on the quality of the food being served.
google avatar

Kemlyn B.

Yelp
Delicious gyro and lemon chicken soup! My gyro has a little too many raw onions and tomatoes, but the tomatoes were finely diced and the onions were thinly sliced. The gyro meat was beautifully grilled and was not compressed meat, but still had the texture of real meat. The pita was warm and wrapped. The soup is comfort to the max. Rice cooked down to a porridge, flavors of chicken accented with the zing of lemon. It is an elevated Chicken Soup for the Soul. They won't seat until your whole party arrives.

Yelp
I came here with some coworkers. The staff was very kind and helpful. Their food is standard diner food with a lot of choices. The inside is wide open with easy access into the booths and tables. I really enjoyed their breakfast and will definitely be back for lunch. Prices are extremely reasonable and portions are large. Keep up the great work!

Yelp
came here with my son before taking him to the airport after the holidays. We wanted to go somewhere that was locally owned and not a found this place, I've never been before, but absolutely loved it and absolutely will come back. there was a wide variety of food on the menu. I had a number two with the chicken sausage and my son had the spinach and feta omelette. We both loved it. The food came out fast and hot and the waitress was so friendly, I wish I'd remembered her name but all the staff was very nice. Their lunch menu looked equally delicious. Will definitely go back would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Breakfast was spot on Portions smaller than usual Lunch Chicken Gyro seems like portions are smaller than usual

Yelp
Great breakfast! The giant cinnamon roll is awesome! Really liked the Vietnamese Coffee as well. A bit of a wait on a Sunday morning, but worth the wait. Impressed how well our waitress knew the menu!

Yelp
Family owned small business. Great food & friendly staff. It's a neighborhood family restaurant. Good place to meet up with friends and relatives,, have a great meal & visit. Never any pressure to leave!

Sue B.

Yelp
The restaurant was welcoming, the service was great (thanks Peaches!) and the food was tasty,! Recommend for sure!

Berni Z.

Yelp
I ordered the open face turkey sandwich with gravy on the side. (Restaurants always seem to overdo the gravy, which is why I ordered it on the side.) The food took forever to come out and when it finally did, it was drenched in gravy. Concerned about additional wait time, I decided to scrape off the gravy rather than send it back. Food was mediocre at best. The worst part of our experience was the service. Our server, Roberta, was unfriendly and rude. She had an uninterested demeanor and made us feel like a bother. In this economy, it seems like restaurants should treat their customers with care so to make them want to return. I can say with 100% certainty that my family will never return to Nick's after the poor service we experienced.

Yelp
Arrived and was seated at the same exact table i dinner at 4 years ago! Nick's is clean, bright and not nosy. The waitress was friendly and prompt. I ordered the Gilbert's Trail #12 which is the Country Fried Steak, 2 eggs (over easy for me), country potatoes and a pancake. My meal was delicious!!! The CFS was fork tender, eggs good to perfection and the country potatoes were crispy. Pancakes was yummy too. My friend ordered the veggies omelette w bacon and sausage. I can't say much about it but he said it was best omelette he ever had. I'm going back to PHX later this year and you know I'm going back to Nick's!!!!

Roger I.

Yelp
About a month ago I praised the high quality of food at Nicks Diner 2, and more so the fish and chips platter. Sadly, that was then, and yesterday after returning with a friend, I found very little to shout about, but for the service, which was still good. A month later prices were higher, the fish was thinner and cheaper, not the high quality of cod that had won my praise not that long ago. Obviously Codfish is getting far more expensive, batter is cheap, unfortunately we found that out the hard way, I retract my recommendation.

Yelp
In my last review of Nick's I was very upset about my meal and said I would never come back to Nick's. Several of my friends wanted to go to Breakfast and suggested Nick's. It I thought , ok I don't want to be a party pooper. This time I had a s Spinich and Mushroom omelette Swiss cheese and French toast. Everything tasted good. I ordered my meal without looking at the menu thinking nothing of it. When the bill came the cost of my meal was $18.06. The price of my meal seemed excessive. I asked the waitress about the price of my meal. She said anytime you add a vegetable to and omelette there is an up charge. If I would have ordred a veggie omelette I would have been much cheaper. Really . What crock of ****. I can see if I was ordering some exotic kind of omelette. This establishment will not miss me. I will stick to my guns and no set foot at Nick's again.

Yelp
Quite the surprise in Surprise! We must have passed this eatery a hundred times before we finally came here for breakfast. On Yelp it is listed as AZ Diner, but the signage on the building says Nick's II so it was a bit confusing. When First entering the restaurant it's surprisingly large. But don't let that fool you, the service is very fast and the portions are big. I asked for crispy bacon and it was perfect. The waitress (Mary D.) was excellent! So cheerful, if you were having a bad day she would definitely make you smile. The food wasn't only fast, but it was pretty good too. Not gourmet, but diner type food. Looking forward to going back to try their Greek food for lunch one day. They close at 3pm so don't miss out.
google avatar

Yelp
Came in for breakfast on Saturday morning. Restaurant was pretty full but thankfully they have bar seating so I sat right away. The servers are really nice and have quick service. I ordered "Nick's Greek Skillet" and enjoyed it. Will definitely come back again.
google avatar

Euffie H.

Yelp
The fish was amazing. The fish meal was more then enough, was so full after. Service was excellent. Also after 4pm you get a free piece of pie with an entree on Friday. Price was comparable to other places but came with alot of food. Wow... will definitely come back!
google avatar

Yelp
Our family loves having breakfast here so when service is lacking it's disappointing. Hoping to address issue with waitress , completely forgot about us, had to wave her down to get coffee and didn't get back to us after chatting behind the bar. No coffee refills. Definitely will be asking for a different waitress next time
google avatar

Thomas K.

Yelp
3 people entered, 3 people left completely full and happy. Country fried steak, excellent. French toast, perfect. Corned beef and Swiss grilled, yummy! Get the lemon rice soup too. A Greek restaurant staple.

Jen S.

Yelp
$15 for Corned Beef breakfast gets you cold eggs, barely cooked onions and peppers, a lunch meat slice of meat chopped and fried and a lot of potatoes. I could have made this myself at home and been fuller, happier and had more money in my pocket! This place used to be amazing! Haven't been in a few years and sad to see it's become a glorified Dennys. By the time the waitress came to see how everything was my party was done eating so I was not going to make them wait while I gave them the chance to make it right.
google avatar

Yelp
Solid joint with classic homestyle meals and not bad prices. Busy as hell on Sundays so just be mindful of that. I got the Ribeye and Eggs. Steak was cooked very well. Great service and homey decor inside. Definitely would come back.

William H.

Yelp
Most of the food and the people working, they are great. I would definitely go back and recommend it to other people but one thing I'd like to say is and you may laugh about this. The fried bologna that's the waitress told me was John Southern style is no more southern style than the man the moon and the first place is cut thick down south so when you grill it it's like grilling a ham steak here. It was just a slice of bologna. I think I got three little slices of bologna And it just does not work that way, but that won't keep me from coming back. I don't have people baloney. Everything else is good.

Yelp
My husband and I visited this diner while visiting family in the Surprise area. My aunt shared that the restaurant can be extremely busy on the weekends, but good thing we tried it on a Monday morning when it wasn't very busy at all. As we entered the restaurant, I noticed that there must have been a recent change in ownership of the restaurant because the sign and Google list is as 'Nicks Diner II,' but there's a large sign inside that says 'Samantha and Nick's Diner.' Food: I, myself, ordered the "Robin Magnolia" which included steak, eggs, home fries and toast. My husband ordered a Greek skillet. We both ordered a glass of juice to pair with our breakfast- (1) orange juice and (1) apple juice. I thought the home-fries were really bland and could have used some seasoning. My eggs were warm, so I had to eat them fast because who likes cold eggs? Not me. Though we dined in for breakfast, their menu does include breakfast, lunch, dinner and some desserts. Personally, I disliked the menu because it included too many ads as if it were some kind of magazine. Service: We were provided with good service. We were seated immediately, then placed our orders pretty quickly (again, it wasn't busy at all). When our server brought our food she immediately asked if I needed steak sauce and brought it right away when I said 'yes'. Midway through our meal, the server checked on us. Unlike other diners where you would pay your bill up front, you pay at the table via your server. There's even a sign at the front that says "your server is your cashier," so don't forget to pay before you leave your table. Value: Good sized portions for what you pay; however, I don't agree with the price of juice being $3.99 per glass. In my opinion, $8 for two glasses of juice that do not come with refills is pretty pricey. For just the two of us to eat at this diner, it costed us about $50 (including tip)- yikes. Ambiance: clean restaurant. A good amount of seating. Parking lot. It was pretty quiet when we dined there, and since it was December, there was Christmas decor. Location: Right by the AMC theatre on Litchfield. 13765 Litchfield Rd, Surprise, AZ 85379. Overall, pretty good if you're in the area, but not something I'd make a detour for.

Yelp
What a hidden gem! I love good customer service and this place was great. The greater who sat us at our table was a sweetheart. Our waitress was also great. Made sure we had refills in our coffee. The food was great! I had the corned beef hash and it was good. Different from what I was used to. The corned beef was cubed? Looked like ham but tasted like corned beef. But I didn't mind. I still ate it. lol My husband has eggs bacon and potatoes. He asked for salt on his eggs and potatoes which he hardly does but that's just preference. I'd rather my meal not be overly salted! This place reminds me of what old school Dennys use to be like. It was crowded on a Saturday morning. But the wait was less than 10mins for 2! Looked like everyone around us was enjoying their meals. Will go back again when I'm in the area. Love this kind of mom and pop shops! Good job guys.keep up the good work.

Yelp
Dined here for the first time with a friend today. Located just behind and to the left of the AMC theatre. The hostesses at the front were welcoming and sat us in a booth within a minute of our arrival. Nice that they asked what type of table we preferred. We arrived at 8:30 and there was no wait. An hour later, the lobby was very full. Our server (Marissa I believe) was really good. Friendly, helpful with menu options and very attentive. Gave us plenty of time to choose and came back for drink refills often. I ordered option #2 which came with two eggs, four pieces of bacon, hash browns and two pieces of toast. So much food for only $10. My friend ordered a veggie omelet, hash browns and a buttermilk pancake. All of that was around $10 as well. Thinking we had to pay up front, we went to do exactly that. Quickly realized that was not the process and felt a little bad. Our server then had to be flagged down and meet us up front. We left a 50% tip for her great service and hassle on our part. If you're looking for good food and quality service at a great price - give this place a try.

Yelp
It's in the name. Diner. It's a place you can expect straight forward food. No frills, fill you up goodness.

Yelp
Wow!!! So I went to Nick's diner, which is also known as AZ diner and wired. I've ordered it was delicious. As soon as we walked in the place looks very clean very nice very nicely decorated and done , being from Chicago. We love diners, and this one was very nice and very clean. That was the first impression. So I said to My Wife,"'I like the ambience but let's see if the food is good, I would waitress was fantastic just like an old-school diner. She hung out what else she talked to explain chitchat extremely pleasant. Every diner that I go, I ordered the same so compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges I ordered meat lover skillet and I tell you it was delicious. It was flavorful very very tasty. I rate Nick's diner 4 1/2 stars. I highly recommend it. To watch a video, about Nick's diner in surprise please follow me on TikTok and Instagram Bearj Antonio AZ

Yelp
This restaurant was pretty good 2 years ago. The last I went we ordered hamburgers (2) and charged $32 Without drinks It's not worth it Go to Mickey D's

Yelp
The food tasted good and the service was great! Such nice lady's working there! The restaurant was pretty busy so it seems to be very popular. It feels like a classic diner inside. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a home cooked breakfast.

Yelp
Nick may have retired and the name changed but this is a locals place located on the edge of a shopping center with the AMC theater in Surprise. Friday night is all you can eat fish and chips . It is the best fried fish I have ever eaten. The batter is crusty and thin and the fish is glistening. We also order a couple of the fried shrimp (at $1.50 each) and again outstanding. Dinner comes with clam chowder or a fresh dinner salad and a piece of homemade pie for dessert. If you want a fish fry this is the place to go! Our service is always outstanding and friendly as once you come you are remembered and it feels like family.

Juan Carlos R.

Yelp
Super nice people and great service! Food was good and exactly what I expected! I've been back a couple times!

Yelp
I am not a red meat eater. When the desire for red meat anything hits, I probably need some iron so I listen to my body... this leads me to ordering of the corn beef hash! It's so good here! For reals! That with some toast, jelly and hash browns.. perfect brunch okay. My hubby and sons ate eggs, pancakes with bananas and strawberries, hash browns, French toast, steak and eggs, omelette with all the goodness in it, and chocolate hot cocoa to wash it all down. Coffee wasn't bad either! This place is always well!! The service was excellent! Our waiter was so nice and friendly. She made sure we had everything we needed and wanted. It was really busy inside. We didn't wait long to be seated. It was a country filled atmosphere and not to overly decorated. All in all nice. Hopefully they will continue to be great and we will eat here again and again!

Donna R.

Yelp
We try to eat breakfast here every time we come to Surprise. Almost always a wait but worth it. Generous portions and good service.

Yelp
Great service! Had breakfast and loved every bit of it! Home fries were delicious!! Portions a plenty!

Yelp
Recommended by service writer at Subaru dealer, I hope his recommendations for wife's car are better. We went while waiting for car, I would have been better off with dealer snack machine. Wife's "bacon" looked like it was burnt yesterday. My Greek skillet was mostly onions and green peppers with a few dots of gyro meet so small I needed glasses to find them. 45 dollars is a lot for breakfast, robbery for a terrible one. Never again Nick!

Jose R.

Yelp
Great service and yummy food. I really liked this place. Kids were also happy with their food which is always a plus! Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Really great breakfast. The food can be a bit bland and unsalted but the staff is amazing and great service

Yelp
I love going to Nick's Diner II, now AZ Diner. Food is always so good, and the ladies always hustle and accommodate the customers. The setting is like a diner with no special seating. There is one person that always stands around and doesn't seem to be a team player, though. It's the only guy that takes orders. The ladies work together, and you never see him helping out when there is a breakfast rush. I have been lucky to have never gotten him as a server. Peaches, Mira, Zenia, Red, Tammy are always on point. I will keep coming back.....

Yelp
Great food and service. You won't leave hungry, you may have a wait during the busy times, but that should tell you something ! GOOD FOOD !!

Paul F.

Yelp
Great all around! It's a moderately sized diner that has decent parking and a varied menu. The staff is great and portions served are very generous. A lot of items are made in-house and the place is always very clean and service is fast. We go this location at least once a week! Prices are reasonable.

Yelp
This place is brilliant! Our waitress was , "Peaches", and she, also, was brilliant. I came here with my family and enjoyed good service, delicious food, and a surprisingly good deal. Everything we ordered was so tasty. The club sandwich looked like a piece of art-work. A nice diner feel but with way better food. I can't say enough good things about this place. We are definitely going to go back. I would recommend to anybody. Great food for a better price!

Yelp
They have changed. Went to breakfast and for 2 people bill was over $40. $8 just for 2 cups of coffee.

Yelp
Our service is always great. I have never had a bad meal there. Very friendly laid back environment
