16 Restaurants That Could Only Exist In Miami - Miami - The Infatuation

"Growing up in Miami means crumbling Maria cookies over peaks of ice cream, mixing in cubes of guava paste when it softens, and putting scoops on top of warm Knaus Berry Farm cinnamon rolls. Maybe an uncle even slips some cafecito into their grandkid’s bowls while no one’s looking. You can find professional versions of all these creations at Azucar. They’ve got an Abuela Maria flavor that mixes guava, cream cheese, and Maria cookies into vanilla ice cream. But the ice cream shop doesn’t just stick to the nostalgic stuff. There’s also a plátano maduro flavor, banana and red hots, sweet potato and ancho chile." - virginia otazo, ryan pfeffer

The 11 Best Ice Cream Shops In Miami - Miami - The Infatuation

"Azucar is a classic, both for architecture and ice cream. Their giant ice cream cone sculpture is one of our favorite landmarks on Calle Ocho, but the ice cream here is equally as impressive. They do a lot of Cuban-inspired flavors, like their most famous one, the Abuela Maria—with Maria cookies, guava, and cream cheese. Other flavors include cafe con leche and Oreo, sweet plantain, and dulce de leche. They also have a huge painting of Celia Cruz and benches made out of guayaberas." - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo, mariana trabanino

Google
Amazing ice cream, even better staff! Andrew is super patient and friendly. I have 3 ice cream eaters and two are especially indecisive. Andrew made sure they would be happy with their choices and they were. Jordan is very kind too! Thanks for hiring wonderful people. The chalk wall is also a highlight and keeps us coming back again and again.

Google
Mia provided us with great customer service, and she is pretty knowledgeable about the difference in ice cream. Honestly, it's a great place for kids and family. I really love the coffee ice cream cafe con leche 😋 😍 kids love to come here

Google
After a nice lunch we decided to meet up with the sister and have a sweet treat. We've heard about this place and wanted to give it a shot. It's only been here since January 2023. The people that work here, very friendly, patient and knowledgeable of all the flavors they have. We had a great time. It's a small place but it has plenty of seating as well as cool lounge chairs (why Guayaberas themed seats). The prices are reasonable but what really made the place was all the selections and cool themes. We'll definitely be back. Great ambiance.

Google
Best ice cream in South Florida! You can actually taste each ingredient that makes up each ice cream flavor. AMAZING and EXCEPTIONALLY DELICIOUS! A must try.

Google
Hands down the best ice cream i have ever had!! Staff is smiling and offer samples of anything you’d like. Very good prices. Unique flavors with homemade taste, velvety texture. I had the abulas, flan de coco and bourbon ice-cream to go:) all delicious 🤤 even when mixed in layers lol Atmosphere is lively, exceptionally clean and very cool as you can see in the pics. I love the mural on the wall!!

Google
The ice cream here is fantastic honestly the best I have ever had.

Yelp
We got here right before they closed, we were soo excited! There were soo many flavors to choose from. I loved that they let you try it before you pick your flavor of choice. I went with the birthday cake and cafe con leche in a cone, then I had them drizzle some condensed milk on top. My ice cream was amazing, the birthday cake was perfect and the cafe con leche was as if I was having a cafecito in ice cream form. The service was great, the gentleman were very friendly and welcoming. I loved the vibes of the place. The Celia Cruz mural was so nice and next to it was a chalk board where you can write whatever you want on the black board. I'm definitely coming back for more!

Yelp
I have always wanted to try Azucar but never have found myself making the time to visit the OG Little Havana location. I was in this shopping plaza today having dinner and decided to try this place and it did not disappoint! The girls working were super friendly and kind and did a good at explaining the flavors and offered samples. I ended up getting the Cafe con leche flavor that had Oreos which sounds like a random mix but was amazing. My boyfriend got a raspberry sorbet that was also insane. Very cute location with a good amount of seating but we opted to sit outside and get as much fresh possible in Miami lol. Overall lovely spot I will be back!

Yelp
Great big selection! We tried one that has guava and pieces of cookies..... so great! Very nice service! We certainly will return very soon! We loved it!

Yelp
Been following on IG for a few years. We finally got a chance to visit the location near Pinecrest - Dadeland. Small and simple but loved the ice cream. Staff was friendly allowed us to sample a variety of the flavors and even offered us some dry ice for the pint we bought to take home. We tried the cafe con leche - abuela María - coconut and pineapple- all were delicious. Loved the typical Cuban phrases.

Yelp
They didn't have many ice cream options. I ordered their most popular ice cream, and it tasted very bland in my opinion.

Yelp
One of my favorite ice cream shops. I usually go to their Calle Ocho location, but was in the area today and stopped by. I really like this location, nice decor, more seating areas, easy parking. The two young Ladies were very polite. I got very happy when I saw that they had my favorite flavor - Willy Chirino! They have very unique flavors as well as traditional ones. I like Willy Chirino, Cafe con leche and Abuela María. Give it a try and I am sure you will love it as much as I do.

Yelp
Just discovered this gem on Dixie Hwy. I love that I don't have to drive all the way down to 8 street for some fabulous ice cream. This location is also more spacious than the one on Calle ocho. The staff is super friendly, the location super clean, and very busy on a Saturday night. The entire time we were there, guests kept arriving. That says a lot! The portions are generous and the flavors remind me of my youth growing up in a Cuban household! If you want to try one of their flavors, no problem... ask them for a sample and they'll gladly give you a tiny spoon with some to try. Makes selecting your flavor of choice much easier. This is definitely worth a visit! You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
We were in the mood to try something new, so we stopped by to check Azucar out. They're loaded with unique flavors and pay tribute to the Miami legacy with their own twists on guava ice cream and such. We had a decent experience. Would suggest if you're up for a unique ice cream experience.

Yelp
Yummy ice cream with a good variety of flavors. The staff was helpful and nice in helping us choose. Loved the murals as it definitely gave it a fun flair. Whoever did the art is a great artist!

Yelp
Amazing ice cream quality, service and ambiance was superb! The cafe con leche ice cream is a hit if you love Cuban coffee!

Yelp
I am sure you have heard the old adage, "Good things come to those who wait." Azcuar is no exception. After a long wait, Azucar Pinecrest has finally opened. If you are not familiar with Azucar, think of all those wonderful Cuban and Caribbean flavors you love infused into the creamiest, most delicious ice cream. There are flavors for the adventurous like olive oil, orange zest & dark chocolate, guarapiña (sugarcane and pineapple), over the border (margarita sorbet), Mamacita (Orange blossom almond), and sweet potato ancho chile chocolate chip. The adventurous, but not daring can enjoy tropical fruit flavors like mango, passion fruit, papaya, and coconut. The traditionalists can enjoy flavors such as strawberry, vanilla, or Belgian chocolate or can use it as a blank canvas to add fresh toppings. The menu changes so there are always wonderful flavors of ice cream and sorbet to choose from. It is a great place to satisfy your sweet tooth and to wow fellow ice cream and sorbet lovers. Bienvenido al vecindario Azucar!

Yelp
I love that Azucar now has a location less than 10 minutes from where I live! My waistline might not though lol. This is some ridiculously good ice cream. I love that there are some staple flavors you'll find in regular ice cream shops, but the main attraction here are the Cuban inspired flavors. I have tried the Mantecado, Abuela Maria, and Mulatica flavors so far. The mulatica has to be my favorite though (cinnamon ice cream with oatmeal cookies. Yummmm) I want to try the cafe con leche flavor next time. Service has been quick and friendly every time I've come here. It's located in a shopping plaza so there is lots of parking, and it's conveniently located right on US 1.

Yelp
I was extremely please to know that Azucar opened a kendall location! Staff is sweet and welcoming which is hard to come by (especially in Miami). I can't rave enough about their creamy ice cream and amazing mural of Celia Cruz. They also have a children's corner with a chalk bucket so you can enjoy family time together, that didn't stop me from being a kid myself

Yelp
Delicious flavors to choose from, of course I had to get the fans favorite guava with Marie cookies. Super creamy it definitely hit the spot. Service was nice & fast ambiance was very cute. Will return back with my family .

Yelp
Located in a strip mall with plenty of parking, Azucar is a great place to stop in when looking for a tasty treat! When I walked in, we were greeted by the friendly staff. My daughter and I were not sure what we wanted to try so we sampled multiple of the ice cream's and they were all delicious. We settled on the mamey call ice cream, the piña colada, sherbet, and the mango sherbet. We were able to find a nice table to sit down and enjoy our ice cream and chat with our friends. It was a great afternoon and I look forward to my next visit.

Yelp
Super cute concept but no delivery. The ice cream was bland, freezer burned and really no depth or flavor. Super tight area so felt very uncomfortable. I was really hoping to like it but not worth the calories at all. I gave it two stars only because the employees were super friendly.

Yelp
This has been my favorite ice cream flavor from Azucar for the past 8 years! Finding out that they had a new location in pinecrest near me had me eager to go yesterday and take a pint home. The staff were super nice and friendly and the atmosphere was so nice and Vibrant. I also want to give Kudos to whoever painted the Celia Cruz Mural inside because it is BEAUTIFUL. I honestly couldn't leave without getting a scoop of abuela maria to eat on my drive back home. Also the range in Flavors is so good!!! They have so many never before seen flavors that everyone should try.

Yelp
Official Grand Opening of Azucar in Suniland/Pinecrest shopping center. The young lady was very helpful in explaining each ice cream flavor and their most popular flavors. She was very patient as we struggled to make a decision. We chose Red Velvet, Mani Loco and Coconut Sherbet. All flavors were amazing! Must try!

Yelp
Like the OG spot, the fact that it's available for the Southern part of Miami is great! One of the greatest ice cream place in Miami, love the abuela maria flavor, and it sends me back to my childhood.

Yelp
I had been dying to try this place forever since they opened. I am a huge fan of homemade mom and pop ice cream shops. However, there were a few things I couldn't overlook. This place is NOT allergy safe. Like at all. I risked it this time and chose very basic flavors that seemed okay on the guide, even though I wanted to try their creative flavors. If you have kids I warn you be very careful if they have allergies. I have a severe peanut tree nut allergy and found it very frustrating to try and understand their allergy guide, it made no sense. It seriously needs some work. Ive worked in the hospitality/ food service industry for a long time and that allergy key was all kinds of wrong and dangerous! First off it goes off of what you can eat instead of noting the major 8 allergens. Flavors as simple as Cuban Vanilla apparently has nuts, when it may plainly be coconut or nutmeg. Nutella apparently is "nut safe" when Nutella has hazelnuts!! There were so many flavors I probably could have eaten but due to lack of thoroughness it made my experience less than enjoyable. A real allergy key would have noted the major allergens for each flavor, a key for cross contamination, and to be extra cautious an ingredient list for each item which should all be found in a binder and updated as much as necessary. An employee at this shop noted that they have been trying to get management to update the allergy list for a long time with no movement. It was a bummer that the staff working that day didn't have the answers about the flavors to help ease guests minds, they were so kind and really did try to help! They even tried to reach out to their manager through text, but couldn't get a response. I uploaded pictures of the allergy menu for reference, this really needs to be fixed as allergies are so prevalent these days and your consumers should feel safe! Especially when the ice cream is that good!

Yelp
I've been waiting for the Pinecrest Azucar to open, and it did not disappoint. It has two ice cream, coolers full of different original flavors to choose from. I've tried the pannacote, the coconut and a banana ice cream with nuts and chocolate sauce, all delicious as expected. Only reason I gave four stars instead of 5 is because both times I have gone they have not been able to give me change for a $20 bill when I tried to pay with cash.

Yelp
Amazing flavors!!!! Beautiful atmosphere. And not over crowded 10/10 recommended! Best flavor is hmmmm... ALL OF THEM

Yelp
Bianca, if you are reading this, hi!! This is Maddie, one of Ashley Townsend's friends. First of all, I'm so happy Azúcar is in Pinecrest. About time! I love the vibe, the location and of course the ice cream. You guys don't even compare to Chill-N, Coldstone, and even Whip N Dip!! You guys have amazing flavor combinations that I haven't seen anywhere else, cool vibes, beautiful decor and great customer service. Although I've only been to the Pinecrest location 3 times, every time has been a blast! I was able to try whatever ice cream I wanted (without bothering anyone) and the process was clean, smooth and seamless! Great topping choices and energy. I would recommend coming here against rivals like Chill-N on the road. You guys are great for ice cream. Maybe soft serve flavors are coming soon?

Yelp
I remember visiting this shop when it opened in Little Havana. The Abuelita María ice cream was my absolute favorite. I was so happy to see when one opened in my area. I recently visited and they have so many more delicious and original flavors. If you like unique flavored ice cream, go check this place out!
google avatar

Yelp
Azucar Ice Cream in Pinecrest how exciting is this, cafe con leche is my favorite. They let you sample all the delicious ice cream and you can tell they use fresh fruit in deed. Staff is super friendly and helper. Super busy ice cream shop. Thank you for coming to Pinecrest.

Emmie R.

Yelp
My favorite flavor was Mani Loco. Service was amazing and Mia was so helpful and even provided me with suggestions on what flavors to pick.My new favorite ice cream spot!!!!

Yelp
The best ice cream in town!! Delicious flavors and combinations that remind me of my Latin upbringing. Service is exceptional and the location is super cute and well designed. I will be coming again! I used to go to the one in Little Havana yet this one is just is excellent! Grateful they brought it to Pinecrest!

Yelp
Wonderful service and amazing ice cream! So delicious I didn't even get time to take a picture! I recommend the willie Cherrino and Elvis! Amazing flavors and did I mention how wonderful the service was?! Will definitely be back again very soon! And maybe I'll have a chance to take a picture but I can't guarantee it because the ice cream is soooooo amazingggggg!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Yummiest ice cream ! Try the abuelita Maria for sure ! Has Maria cookies and guava pieces ! Amazing ! The 4 leche one is awesome too
google avatar

Shawn H.

Yelp
Fantastic ice cream. Our favorites are the samoa and the freshmen 15. Being next to my kids pediatrician we bribe them with trips to azucar when they need shots, and they usually argue to get their shots first so they can be first to order ice cream. Service is always friendly and the kids love drawing on the chalkboard painted walls.
google avatar

Alain A.

Yelp
The ice cream is the best in Miami. Honestly was surprised they had two locations one near my job. We love to go for family nights and my kid loves the ice cream! Staff is amazing and sweet. Pricing is awesome too!
google avatar

Juan A.

Yelp
Best in Pinecrest short of making it yourself. These people know what makes ice cream tick and it's not concern of your waistline, size 6, fasting blood sugar..... Quick in and out, ample choices, a lot of "mi cielo como te puedo ayudar".
google avatar

Katia P.

Yelp
I had the best time ever at this Azucar, the staff were incredibly helpful the music they had playing really added to the atmosphere. Overall i really recommend visiting this location, the flavor that really stood out to me was "abuela maria" absolutely amazing. I also took a pint to go!
google avatar

Meg L.

Yelp
This ice cream is the best thing ever. I had the Abuela Maria the first time and then I had café con leche. The second time we went the mall was getting an inspection. The sweet young man who works there came to the car and took and filled our orders. My husband had the sorbet. We went to Azucar at Suniland Shopping Center. Definitely my favorite now!

Victoria C.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this place for a while. The ice cream was okay. The workers were very nice in offering samples and recommendations.

Anthony S.

Yelp
Pretty good, place was nice, ice cream was good quality, service was quick, and the atmosphere of the creamery was pleasant.
