B. Fuller’s Mortar and Pestle Issues Weak Apology for Posting ‘Please Remove Your Mask’ Sign - Eater Seattle

"The tea shop faced backlash for its no-mask policy, posting a sign that dismissed the threat of COVID-19. Despite claiming to have taken the sign down before a statewide mask mandate, their Facebook apology was poorly received, with many criticizing the shop's stance during a public health crisis." - Gabe Guarente

B. Fuller’s Mortar and Pestle is a must for anyone wandering the streets of Fremont. With a unique atmosphere, charming host, and array of teas and incense there is something for everyone. The most unique aspect has to be the owner brewing a cup of the tea we were interested in right then and there! Always love shopping local, especially with these unique finds.

Google
Wonderful little shop!! Full of whimsy and delicious tea! Will was incredibly knowledgeable about his tea blends and ingredients and was him funny, kind, and obliging. We got to try three different samples of tea, and I bought ‘spring breathe’ and ‘surely you digest’. I also found a lovely shaker of Herbes de Provence seasoning that bought. Lovely atmosphere, lots of fun teapots, and just really great, creative blends. I actually told my aunt about the shop as soon as I got home and she, (a tea connoisseur) immediately popped over and bought a bunch of teas. Absolutely recommend this shop and its teas! The shop dog is also an absolute sweetheart.

Google
During the height of covid they instituted a "No mask policy" They put our community at risk and showed their true colors. Used to love this place, but now no more. Google removed most reviews that mentioned this in the past, in case you're wondering how their rating partially recovered. Happy to help bring it back down slightly.

Google
Absolutely love the eclectic vibe here!! I'm from Canada but am tempted to make monthly trips down just to visit again. Tea selection is inventive, packaging is unique and fun, and the quality beats so many other kitchy places by far! Plus the owner REALLY knows his tea! And if you can't make it to the shop, online ordering is so easy and delivery was surprisingly quick!

Google
This place feels like a quintessential Seattle experience. Come on in and try any of the teas you like with Will and talk about tea while having it, you really can't beat it. This is definitely our go to for all our whole leaf tea supplies. This place is such a gem!

Google
high quality tea. owner was knowledgeable, friendly, and happy to provide samples. very cute shop dog as well. will absolutely be coming back!

Google
Such a delightful little tea shop! I was greeted in by the owner’s pup, Julietta. She was so cute and polite with her tail wags and hand shakes! The tea selection was quite extensive with lots of unique little gifts as well!

Google
Staff lived and breathed tea who could answer all of our questions and then some for each blend. Cozy store, free samples, a fun steampunk flair and the cutest of sales clerks (an old dog named Juliette.)

Yelp
This place is adorable and fun! The decor is eclectic but all works really well. It kind of feels like you wandered into a wizard's tea cupboard, which was exactly the vibe I didn't know I needed. There's also a shop doggo which I'm 100% here for. I got some hojicha in a test tube and the owner showed me his tiny tea sets (really really miniature for like a Polly pocket) and gave me a sample of a lovely sencha from an Erlenmeyer flask instead of a traditional teapot, which I loved. Already planning to return and highly recommend whether or not you love tea.

Yelp
We stumbled upon B Fullers Mortar and Pestle while we were strolling in Seattle- and wow , what a find. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, there is always a few types of tea you can try, and the store is unbelievably cozy! If we had longer to stay, it would have been amazing to get to spend more time here. There are over 70 types of tea for all different needs. You can find plenty of trinkets for the tea lovers in your life, and you will be able to take home the teas you are interested in having in a variety of sizes. The teas I chose were a test tube of new world wonder and lemon aide. Both were absolutely fantastic and excellent recommendations. For my next trip, I fully intend to get some wells of wisdom flower tea balls! This ship is an absolute gem tucked away on the side street, you should definitely stop by!

Yelp
So fun! Will is a tea expert and happy to share his love and knowledge of teas (and tisanes!). Stop by for a drop, or book a tea tasting experience, you won't regret it. The only thing you have to do is decide which of the myriad flavors you'll take home today. Come back again for the ones you missed!

Yelp
It's crazy to think that a modern apothecary exists, but that's basically what this place feels like! The owner is an actual tea-blending master. Every blend is mixed with so much consideration to its flavor, effects, and harmony with other ingredients. You can try anything here before buying! He'll make it on the spot. You can sniff all the blends. They come in big bags, test tubes, gift sets, bath soaks, oils, and more. The one downside is that this is a shop - not a place to sit down and enjoy tea. There are two seats in front of the register, and a smaller table if you have more than 2. The shop can't really fit more than 4 people. You have to think really think of it like an apothecary. And as such, know you can also buy the raw ingredients. They are of the highest quality! I always thought I knew tea until I stumbled upon this place. I wish the sign was bigger. I wish the place was bigger. Because this place deserves way more attention. Jules (the black dog that goes in and out) may be the only way you really see the place.

Yelp
This place was an awesome little find! If you love tea, definitely check this place out. The owner is so sweet and definitely a passionate tea-drinker. He offers brews of different teas and drinks with you so you guys can discuss how it is after! FAVE ITEMS: - King of Duck Shit, trust me on this one! - All the other teas we tried are good as well PARKING: easy to find street parking around PRICE: it was about $18 for a small bag Overall, this was an awesome place and definitely one to check out if you love tea. I'd honestly just come here for the experience of drinking with the owner and hearing about all his awesome stories about the different brews!

Yelp
Such a delightful little tea shop! I was greeted in by the owner's pup, Julietta. She was so cute and polite with her tail wags and hand shakes! The tea selection was quite extensive with lots of unique little gifts that I bought for my friends back home in California. We even got to sample one his berry teas and it was delicious!

Yelp
We absolutely loved our fun tea tasting with Will! Our grown up kids came as not tea drinkers and left as tea connoisseurs! We honestly didn't want to leave! Will's knowledge of tea magic and love for what he does truly shows in the beautiful flow of energy in the shop and in the taste of tea. Our kids ended up buying a teapot and a bag of tea! This turned out to be a highlight of our trip. Thank you, Will for the magical and fun evening!

Yelp
This place is like stepping into a magical wonderland. Chill with Will and let him bestow his knowledge of teas on you. There is nowhere like this place--it's like stepping into Narnia, if Narnia was a steampunk Moulin Rouge-esque tea parlor.

Christine S.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place and was invited in by a sweet dog in the doorway. What a delightful little shop. So.many.options! Settled on some new samplers to try and an adorable little tea pot. We WILL be back
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Their teas are creatively named, but aren't remarkable or of good quality. Their theme is steampunk which is cool, but I think that their packaging for their tea as well as the tea itself could be more unique. Their focus is more on presentation than their tea.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
An excellent place with a knowledgeable and friendly owner. We stumbled upon this place on a Saturday walk, and had a great time tasting tea. The owner Will is well versed in tea, and provides in depth recommendations. An excellent selection of tea, and a relaxing tea drinking experience. Highly recommended

Ella J.

Yelp
This is a very unique and special place that I highly recommend everyone visit, even if it's just to look around!
google avatar

Amy D.

Yelp
Poor quality tea with not so knowledgeable staff. I suggest Steepologie or Friday Afternoon for your tea needs. So many tea shops in the area, not sure why ppl go to this one. It's just a gimmick

Yelp
Okay I want first point out that my visit was last winter, and this review has nothing to do with masks because apparently that's a problem recently? I can't say because I haven't been here for a long time. Only writing review now because I'm bad at writing them on time. The reason why I haven't been here for a long time is that, well, this place isn't that great. Not with so many amazing tea shops in Seattle and surrounding areas. The teas were solid and the staff doing tea tastings while we were there knew what they were talking about. But the store is cramped, and it felt like we were paying more for the novelty than the product? I mean, sure, style IS worth money, but we felt like the upcharge was a bit too much. Also there's the whole historic colonial undertones with steampunk, which coupled with the historic colonial reality of the tea trade kind of left a bad taste in our mouths.

Yelp
This place has an incredible quirky cool ambiance. I used B fullers as a stop for a fun treasure hunt experience I created for a couple. Will was incredible to work with. Very personable and flexible and created an incredible time for the couple. The whole experience was over the top amazing. There are SO MANY unique types of teas. He insisted I try one and it was out of this world. And I'm not really much of a tea person! Added bonus, he has the sweetest pup who hangs out under the table. It just made everything even more magical. You should definitely check this place out. It's a must see.

Yelp
Free thinking, and high quality tea! Great customer service and absolutely unique. (Isn't that what Fremont is about?)

Yelp
What a neat experience! A co-worker found this place on Airbnb experiences and worked with Will to set up an offsite for our team! Usually, he hosts the experience in his tea shop, but it's much too small for our 16-person tea, so they were able to rent the space next door for us! We were treated to about 10 different kinds of tea, from oolong tea to black tea to green tea to herbal teas! He had some for everyone! He was able to steep requested flavorings (someone on my team wanted something with a chocolate flavor and Will picked a great one!) He was also able to accommodate those (like me) who can't have caffeine too late in the day! All of the teas we tried had a great aroma and great flavor. The best part was throughout the whole tasting, Will was just full of knowledge, from the history of tea to the tea making process to the varieties of tea, it was truly an educational experience! The hour and a half zoomed by it was so full of info! Will was such an accommodating, friendly, and knowledgeable host -- I will definitely look to him the next time I want to buy some tea!

Yelp
I wish I could rate this place higher as I love my speciality tea shops, but B Fuller's Mortar & Pestle is way overhyped. Sky high prices for pretty mediocre blends. Also, the customer service is very hit and miss which is doubly unacceptable with the premium these folks charge. I'd recommend the Perennial Tea Room or Seattle Best Tea over this place any day.
google avatar

Mo M.

Yelp
Deffinitly check this place out! The coolest tea shop in Seattle! B. Fuller's Mortar & Pestle the theme brought me in (steam punk for days), But the tea and company kept me intrigued. Thank you Will for the amazing Earl Grey and the Mr. Hyde tea was a huge hit with my roommate The teas are a bit more expensive but worth it! For the organic quality and detail put into every package.
google avatar

Erin S.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING. Will was extremely welcoming and polite. He offered me tasting of Jasmine (excellent) and Keemun tea. I knew I had to get some after the first sip. Very high quality tea at a reasonable price. Just walking in the store was fun- everything is steampunk and beautifully decorated. Like stepping back in time. I highly recommend this to tea lovers and those new to tea alike! Also there was a very sweet, very gentle black dog there who greeted me at the front door and then hung out behind the counter.

Yelp
This is a very nice little tea place of great style. The host is super friendly and knowledgeable about tea and herb. With her help, I purchased a bag of milk oolong and I am very happy of my choice. Milk oolong sends a mild, creamy sweet smell which makes me feel so happy every time I open the bag. The tea leaves are of great quality: they are even in size and texture; I don't see little broken pieces in the bag that I purchased. I would like to recommend this place to you. I hope you will find your cup of tea here as well : )

Yelp
It is a wonderful little shop with a cozy interior, friendly staff, and a vast selection of amazing teas. Thank you for making my visit to Seattle so much better!
google avatar

Annie G.

Yelp
The shop is so quaint and the owner is very nice! We sat with him drinking tea and just chatting, made for a great experience. The tea also comes in little test tubes - so cute!
google avatar

Ryan B.

Yelp
- Welcoming - Knowledgable - Priced right I always enjoy my time spent at the shop and like the fact that I am also able to enjoy their teas in cafés around Seattle.

Khalid E.

Yelp
I went in to buy some gift tea for my friends, as well as a starter's set for myself. I was helped by a charming woman named Gwen who walked me through my options. She made sure my curiosity was satisfied and my doubts were quelled. Very happy with my purchase, will be coming back soon.

E S.

Yelp
It was better years ago but has really gone down since. The tea is subpar at best. So many other places in the area that have quality teas. I guess the business has gotten too busy erasing all their negative reviews from both yelp and google that they can't focus on their business.
google avatar

Julia C.

Yelp
Come for the tea, stay for the experTEAse, am I right? Will always greets with a friendly smile and a fresh brew-- and it's often pretty unusual. Last time it was something like cocoa jasmine, which was supposed to numb the senses. For lady problems, try "Don't Cramp My Style," which kept me in great shape for the physical demands of my job. There's teas for stomach problems, insomnia, even appetite control, and with refillable test tubes this place really does scream apothecary. Actually, B. Fuller reminds me of a tea shop in the UK or Ireland, but with a way cooler atmosphere. Be ready for some Victorian vibes, when we stopped by on Sunday there was even a Tarot reader. Been coming here since I moved to Fremont 3 years ago and Tazo just won't cut it anymore. Will also distributes to a few coffee shops in the area, so if you see some of his punny names around, make sure you take advantage! B. Fuller's is neighborhood staple you won't want to miss.
google avatar

Valentina N.

Yelp
So friendly, so warm, so cozy, so worth a revisit! Never felt bad for taking my time trying out different teas before making a purchase. If anything, tasting different teas and sitting down for a few minutes was recommended by the staff! It was such an informal and welcoming experience to ask about teas and what makes each one special. It's clear that there is a sincere love of teas here, and fostering that love into new customers (and dare I say, friends of the community) is very important.
google avatar

K P.

Yelp
B. Fuller's is an awesome place to get the best tea around! The people who run the shop are very sweet and welcome you in with good conversation. They also always have some tea for you to try while you pick out what you're looking for. Juliette, the shop dog, is adorable and friendly and maybe the best part about visiting B. Fuller's. I haven't tried most of their teas, but the Roobi Slipper, Juniper Sage, and Wellberry are favorites of mine. If you're looking to pick up great tea and enjoy the experience, there's no better place to go than this cute Fremont establishment!
google avatar

Ifrah A.

Yelp
The owner is super friendly and knowledgeable! He gave us a lot of great tea samples and his mixes are delicious. I will definitely be coming back to get more tea!

Yelp
I found this gem of a store and was pleasantly surprised! Super knowledgeable staff and definitely will be coming back for more teas and herbs!

Yelp
This is one of the coolest places I've been in Seattle! Best service and incredible selection of teas. Also a super cute doggie!!

Yelp
Lovely little shop, my husband was coaxed in by the cool things they had inside. I tried a tea i dont remember the name but it was good for the heart, as soon as i drank it i felt a cool vibe in my body. I purchased a lavender bath soak, it changed my life. i felt so soft and silky smooth. My husband has eczema and had no reaction.

Yelp
Incredible blenders, friendly and knowledgable staff. Wandered in because I'd heard about it and was in town--I don't like to buy tea online if I haven't gotten to at least sniff the stuff before hand, there're too many bad blenders out there. Came in just a few minutes before they were supposed to close and Will (? I think--whomever, he was awesome) was just making a batch of EG, would we like to have a sample? Well, I'm a bit of an EG nerd, so of course! As it brews, timed, with a contraption that I think of as American gong fu, we discuss his upcoming article about bergamot and the varieties and benefits of it. Knows his stuff. After time had passed, he strained the infusion into a carafe and poured into cups for I and my friend. Delicious tea and well-served. We went on to discuss tea, sample his wares, and make purchases until well after closing time. I am so pleased with my purchases and look forward to my next visit! In the interim, I know that I can order online for my fix.

Yelp
I ran across B.Fuller's at a street fair, so I have not visited the store (yet). I picked up the Lady Grey Bath Soak. I liked it so much I wanted to write a review!! It left my place smelling ambrosial! I will definitely be giving B.Fuller's bath soaks as gifts!! :)

Yelp
I usually buy my loose leaf teas online, but decided to give a local shop a chance. I looked on their website and saw that they sell peppermint tea in tubes at a decent price, and given that it was close I was excited to bypass shipping rates and wait time. I walked over and inquired about buying some peppermint tea. At first the woman in the top hat was very nice and gave me some options. After I said I wanted just plain peppermint, she inquired with a gentleman who asked me if I owned a business. I said no, at which he said he'd have to sell to me at a higher price, or wholesale. It was unclear as to why he didn't refer to the tubes that were offered on the website, but he was very dismissive of me, and did nothing to provide me the options like those on the website. Given the neighborhood's history, I couldn't help but feel that I was being discriminated against due to being a person of color. There was really no reason to not offer me a tube of peppermint tea. Will definitely warn people, especially diverse communities, to avoid this establishment.
google avatar

Rachel F.

Yelp
Such a lovely little shop. The owner was there and he was friendly and knowledgeable. He will let you try any of the tea in the shop and will sit and chat with you while you taste it. Bought some very nice tea and had a wonderful experience in the process.

Yelp
Came to this gem today, was greeted by a wonderful dog. We got to try the tea we were interested in while shopping around. Very friendly staff and amazing selection.

Name N.

Yelp
They have an amazing range of unique blends and traditional teas. The quality is one of the (if the number one) best tea shops in the area. The pricing is good for what they offer. The owner is a wonderful guy and the workers are friendly, it shows how much they love what they do. I was introduced to the shop at a convention in 2013 and been a fan since. They are low pressure for sales when it comes to tea tasting. I live out in the Bremerton area now but will find an excuse to make the trip out to them in Seattle. My favorites are their Straight from the Fridge, Kava Koko, Grog, and Mountain Blue Mint. Great place, great products, and great people.

Yelp
I first came across the good folks from B. Fullers at the Fremont Farmers' Market. Then I had the pleasure to check out their store in Fremont yesterday. Two of the friendliest guys you'd ever want to meet who really understand the teas and herbs they sell. Absolutely no pressure and no beating you over the head with eastern medicine or the sort of hippie vibe that a store like this could fall into. Just thoughtful, relaxed conversation about what you need and what they have that might help. I sampled a couple teas (one of which they prepared so I could "try before I buy"), hung out with their sweet dog Juliet, and my son even tried a tea they were working on for kids. They were genuinely interested in my feedback. Overall, a great experience. And it seems a small thing, but the owner said goodbye to my son by name even though I'd only mentioned his name once when I asked my son if he wanted to try their kids' tea. If you like tea (black, herbal, or anything in between) and/or are looking for a supplement or alternative to mainstream therapies for lots of minor ailments, this place is a must-see. I bought the Melange for attention and energy, the Spring Breathe for congestion and allergies (works brilliantly as I've recently moved back here from the east coast and I'm re-adapting to all the wonderful allergens out here), and they sent me with a sample of a yerba mate blend they first tried out at SteamCon. All awesome. Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Bo C.

Yelp
Very knowledgeable and generous owner. A great selection of tea including some unique and delicious own blends. Highly recommend it for any tea lovers or the curious or just like me who was looking for a gift but ended up getting something for myself as well - just too many delicious flavours!

Miki M.

Yelp
Super cute store. We first discovered them through the NW Tea Festival, then stopped by their store for the first time today. Favorite for 3 years: Spring Breathe (mostly for when I'm feeling sick) Discovered today: Mulling Spices (to make apple cider that we tried in-store), Wellberry (for tart lovers), and Herbal Chai (for chai lovers)

Yelp
A warm welcoming when coming into shop very knowledgable and friendly staff. Came into the delicious smell of roasted cacao good stuff!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing selection of custom blend teas focused for your needs. Awesome steam punk atmosphere. Friendly employees who take the time to explain and focus on your needs, providing samples. Nice close walk from the troll and to the fremont street markets. Needling tea? Go here!!

Yelp
Love this place! Good tea, great place to stop and talk and drink tea for a bit. Great shop dog. A favorite of mine in Fremont
google avatar

Becca C.

Yelp
I'm a much bigger tea drinker than coffee (I know, why am I even IN Seattle?!) and it's always annoyed me that tea is an afterthought in cafes and restaurants. I want me some delicious tea (move over chamomile and peppermint!) too! B. Fuller's Mortar & Pestle (awesome name!) caters to all the different types of tea drinkers (and crossover coffee lovers, too!). They have loads of delicious herbal infusions (tisanes) as well as black and green teas ("Spring Breathe" always helps me during allergy season). I can't pick one favorite but "Straight From the Fridge" is delicious, "Green Man Tonic" is perfectly balanced, "Roobi Slipper" makes plain peppermint tea recoil in shame. And it's a bonus that all the herbal infusions help with physical stuff. But medicinal tea must taste good to me, otherwise I won't drink it as much. Plus, it's awesome to see people work in a craft, rather than just a retail hot beverage business. Go to the shop. Buy some tea. Get into the zone.
google avatar

Ava G.

Yelp
I wandered in here a while back after exploring Fremont and was blown away by how neat this place was. The variety is amazing, and the owner is willing to let you try anything you want. He will brew up a cup of the tea, split it with you, and educating you about the tea you are about to drink. He's very knowledgeable, and I had a great time talking to him.
google avatar

Alex B.

Yelp
I went in for one of their "Two T's" classes about teas and tisanes and the differences between the two. The two owners were there and they are super knowledgable and really fun to talk to! The shop is a sweet little steampunk tea shop full of fun little treasures. One previous poster noted they only sell one size of tea -now they have multiple sizes available! Sampler packs, test tube sizes and the big bags. We got to try a few teas and I took three home with me. It was super fun and the shop is super cute. They custom blend their own teas and tisanes and they use as much organic as possible (wild sourced stuff can't be certified organic). They're awesome! Will definitely visit again!
google avatar

Matthew T.

Yelp
I consider will to be a doctor of health with his tea solutions! I feel amazing after every visit and always leave with a tea that helps me sleep, calm down or replace coffee. Always the right prescription for me :)
