4 Restaurants to Try This Weekend in Los Angeles: May 9 | Eater LA

"A Turkish street-food stand on the corner where Echo Park, Chinatown, and Downtown LA meet, this team focuses on one thing: shawarma. Meats—chicken, lamb, or beef—are prepared over mesquite lump coal using specialty steel swords. Flatbread is spread with a mild sauce and layered with tomato, parsley, onion, and a sumac seasoning blend before being rolled into a compact cylindrical shape for easy on-the-go eating. Everything in the shawarma is beautifully seasoned and accompanied by a tangy sauce, jalapeño, and pickled carrots; the crew also prepares a traditional yogurt drink to sip alongside it. The dish is best eaten immediately—take a seat on Figueroa just south of Sunset Boulevard (directly under the 110/101 interchange) to savor the sights, tastes, and scents." - Eater Staff

Baba Kebab is the real deal. We went on a Friday night and got there at 8 p.m. The line looked short, but it still took about an hour. That’s because everything is made to order, right in front of you. They skewer the meat by hand, grill it over charcoal, and refresh the grill often. The toppings are also prepped right there. It’s a full process, and you can tell. By the time we reached the front, they only had two items left. The Adana beef kebab was sold out. We got the beef shish kebab and the chicken kebab. Both were phenomenal. The chicken was tender, juicy, and full of spice. The beef had this deep smoky flavor from the charcoal that made it unforgettable. You can tell how fresh everything is. It's incredible how hard it is to find delicious Turkish kebabs in L.A. There’s metered parking around the block. They take cash and Apple Pay, which made things easy. If you’re thinking about going, do it. It’s worth the wait. They’re not on Yelp, which makes them hard to find unless you’ve seen them on TikTok or searched them on Google, but spread the word. It’s truly a gem. I’ve already shared this with friends and reposted the TikToks. This spot deserves the hype.

If I don’t eat here at least 3 times a week I just don’t feel complete. Literally my favorite food to eat in Los Angeles. Everything is always fresh and made hot to order. It is a simple food truck with a simple menu but everything is perfect.

Amazing food, there are many brick and mortar restaurants that aren't half as good as Baba Kebab
