Babel - Review - Simondium - Cape Town - The Infatuation

"Babel is certainly not new to the winelands’ dining scene, but having opened over a decade ago, it’s since had time to hone its style. The main restaurant at Babylonstoren is a contemporary riff on a Cape Dutch cottage—a bright barn-like space with windows that look out onto the mountains. The goal is to highlight ingredients from the farm, so dishes on the menu are extremely simple: there’s water buffalo mozzarella made in the dairy and spring peas or waterblommetjies (water flowers) harvested in the garden a few steps away. Babel is open for lunch and dinner, but the best time to go is in the evening, when the crowds have dispersed and you can watch the sun set. photo credit: Babel photo credit: Babel photo credit: Babel Pause Unmute" - Mary Holland

This place just gets better and better! Excellent, fresh farm food that is beautifully presented. We absolutely loved every bite! The service was also amazing, explaining every dish to us. It is not our first time enjoying lunch here, and we will definitely keep coming back :)

Could not believe how wonderful this restaurant was! We didn’t know entirely what to expect so we were surprised when they started bringing out the food and explaining that most of its grown onsite and then continued to explain the befits of each food. The atmosphere in the restaurant is beautiful, white linen, with a modern farm feel. Nicely situated and open.

Seriously, this place deserves a Michelin star. The service is top notch, wine list is amazing and the food is out of this world. The lamb shank was truly unreal. All in a beautiful setting with an open kitchen. I wish we would have stayed at the hotel to experience the restaurant again!

A beautiful space , packed with tourists ,so make your reservations in advance to avoid dissapointment I had the burrata salad which was fresh and vibrant, the complimentary bread was delicious and the butter decadent Mains were steak and it was soft melt in your mouth indulgence, the side of cauliflower was charred to perfection with a fresh creamy lubna like yumminess that complimented the charred veg The interior is rustic modern and pretty, industrial meets farm in a simplistic harmony that's gorgeous and fun. There is alot more to to like explore the lush gardens enjoy the exceptional wines like Nebuchadnezzar , simply excellent ! Do shop for tea and other amazing products

I no longer live in South Africa so coming here with a local-for me-is quite a treat because I simply get guided though. The wine options are always lovely. We booked for the open table breakfast with eggs on order, and it was fantastic. For R400 each, it might be steep, however, it’s reasonable in Euros, and it would be the same amount in Vienna, but this was much more in value for money in terms of options. They need to make a special deal for locals though. People who live around the farm should be able to enjoy it.

Myself and some friends ate at Babel and our server was Dominique. She was fantastic, extremely knowledgeable and friendly. All the staff were hospitable and welcoming. We had such an amazing experience.

Absolutely fantastic 2 course meal that really is more like 4 with the little added bread course and treats. Pro tip: if you reserve a lunch your entrance to babylonstoren is free but you will have to pay in advance a small fee to reserve. We love babylonstoren and every time we ar run the region go for the gardens

An exquisite lunchtime experience in a most picturesque location. The farm is breathtaking but the food was better. Beautifully prepared and presented. Stellar service, and fairly priced for what you get. Recommended.
