Babs - Review - Midtown - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"You and your friends put your go-to “bottomless brunch” spot to the test last month, and now you need to find somewhere a little more low key to spend your Sunday. Babs is a little cafe in Midtown that you might walk past without noticing, but that’s part of the charm and what makes it feel like you discovered something secret. They serve a mix of brunch favorites with Middle Eastern twists, like an Israeli omelette with smoked salmon, and you can get some work done in the small garden outside if you’re feeling motivated afterwards." - Sarah Bailey

Amazing menu, creative selections with incredible flavors. I have been going for years and have literally NEVER had a bad meal — always exceptional. Portions are generous and always just as good the next day to extend the enjoyment! Don’t forget your brunch cocktails either — the sake Bloody Mary is epic but my favorites are those with bubbles 🥰😋… Highly recommend!!!

Google
Fun little place to get unique breakfast! Went twice while visiting Atlanta, based on our airbnb host (who is a local) recommendation. They have amazing stews (yes, for breakfast!) inspired by flavors and cuisines from all over the world. The owner is hilarious and has so much personality. Loved it and would come back if we visit again

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Walking into Babs in Atlanta felt like coming home — but better, because the food and the energy were unmatched. From the moment I stepped inside, I was welcomed like family. There’s just something special about this place — the warmth, the community, the soul in every dish. I put my full faith in the owner, Randy, and he didn’t steer me wrong. Not only did he make me feel like a VIP, but he also introduced me to Tunisian Shamika, a dish I never expected… and now can’t live without. Rich, flavorful, and completely unique — just like the experience. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels like a warm hug and tastes like a five-star escape, Babs is it. Don’t just take my word for it — go feel it for yourself.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ What an unforgettable breakfast experience at Babs in Midtown Atlanta! From the moment we walked in, the energy of this place was warm, welcoming, and full of personality. But what truly made it special was Randy, the owner. Not only did Randy help us choose the perfect breakfast, but he also took the time to stop by our table to chat, check in, and make us feel like part of the family. He’s got such a magnetic personality—fun, kind, and just the right kind of quirky that makes a morning meal feel like a celebration. The food was fantastic, but the hospitality? Off the charts. If you’re in Atlanta and want more than just a meal—if you want an experience—Babs is the spot. Thank you, Randy, for being such a bright light. We’ll be back for sure!

Google
Best place in midtown for breakfast or brunch. Came in for the Moroccan stew (one of the last items on menu we haven’t had) but switched to one of the daily dishes (Sicilian something 😀 [sorry Randy-as you explained it, it sounded so good that was all I remember of the name]). Luckily for me I took a quart of the stew home. My local favorite. Always leave satisfied but at same time can’t wait to come back.

Google
Amazing place, such friendly service. I had a very tasty Moroccan stew and delicious piece of apple tart - straight from the oven. Will come back here very soon!

Google
Food, service and atmosphere are great!!! First time here and I had the Moroccan stew…. Sooooooo good. The staff are AMAZING and make you feel very welcomed and a place you can just be yourself.

Google
The atmosphere is so inviting and home like. So many great options to choose from! From sweet to savory…. Let’s not forget the breakfast, AMAZING! It is definitely a must see and enjoy!

Yelp
From the moment you enter, you are shepherded into the Babs reality, which is informed by a direct appeal to your senses. This is no ordinary joint - you are in the company of movie posters, squadrons of tchotchkes...and the regal owner, who directs the proceedings. The menu is varied and unusual, but you will be guided to what appeals most to you. I had shakshouka, spicy and tomato-ey...delicious. Don't even think, just go to Babs.

Yelp
Babs is a midtown institution!! Don't listen to all these sensitive people. The owner is incredible and only mean if you deserve it. Their brunch is honestly breathtaking. Very creative food. Quality drinks. Amazing service. Reasonable prices. There's no reason not to go - unless you can't take the heat. And if you can't take it, it's a reflection of your own shortcomings.

Yelp
Their food was pretty good, about a 4 star rating. The owner was fairly rude and kept hurrying us along. It was our first time at the restaurant, so if we wanted to take a few minutes to figure out what we wanted, I don't see anything wrong with it. The process is that you order at the counter inside and then they seat you. We got there around 9 am on a Sat morning and it wasn't too busy. We ordered two shakshukas, a Moroccon stew and a twist on an American breakfast that I can't remember. The food was pretty good. It was a little bit on the salty side for my taste but overall, we liked it. The portions were decent so I took half of mine home. My hot chocolate was ok. I really wish the service had been nicer so that we could've had a more pleasant experience. Parking is up front and it is paid.

Yelp
Randy is a gem. He accommodated our group and made us feel very welcome. The food was spectacular. The environment is incredibly authentic. One of the last independent places in Midtown. This place is a a truly wonderful find with a cult-like following.

Yelp
A true hidden treasure in the heart of midtown!!! My friends and I have hit all usual brunch spots so when we heard about Bab's just a couple blocks from our apartment we had to strike! We were able to walk which was great but they do have a great parking lot out front if you need to drive! We came on a Saturday around 12 and you order at a counter and they bring the food to your table. The man at the register gave us a great over view of the menu. The vibes are adorable and as we sat waiting the staff did a great job keeping our coffee cups full and checking on us! Once the food came, wow!! Delicious food hit the spot. I got the crunch omelette and most tater tots are mid for me but these were delicious and the omelette was to die for!! Could not have asked for better food and service for brunch in Atlanta.

Yelp
Bab's is my new go to recommendation for brunch in Midtown!! I was recommended Babs by a friend and I was excited to try it for a Saturday brunch. My friends and I walked over but they have a paid parking lot for like $5 right next door. Inside it's very cozy, kinda hole-in-the-wall but there was no wait which is so rare for midtown brunch!! It's fast casual so you order at the counter and the staff was so helpful in asking our dietary restrictions and then giving suggestions. I ordered the shakshuka (they had a lot of interesting brunch options but also more classic options as well). Drinks were ready at the table when we sat down and our food came out super quickly. The food was absolutely delicious!! The shakshuka had great flavor and the egg on top was delicious. The service was 10/10 as well with staff coming to check on us super often and multiple refills or coffee!! Overall, love Babs and can't wait to go back :)

Yelp
Babs is BY FAR my favorite brunch spot in all of Atlanta, if not the world. The food is incomparable and the service is delightfully, uh, candid. You want to eat here. Trust me. It's unforgettable. I'll be back!

Yelp
Fantastic and unique breakfast place. We travel every year to Atlanta for a ga tech game and make sure we hit Babs for breakfast.

Yelp
Great option for a flavorful brunch/lunch Parking at Babs was easy and straight-forward. The connected lot wasn't too busy, so we were able to easily find a spot. Parking is $5/hr. The restaurant is very homey and has a retro hotel vibe from the outside. Inside, it is warm and lovingly decorated with cafe-style and pride artwork. We ordered at the front where the server gave us some reccomendations for sweet/savory/spicy dishes, and we were quickly seated. The food came out super quickly, and the server was mindful about refilling our coffee's. I had the cowboy breakfast which had a strong bbq-flavored pulled pork with eggs and cornbread. The cornbread was a bit salty for me, but had great flavor and was moist. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and perfect. The plate also came with a side salad and potatoes and fruit, which was a plus! Overall, this is a cute place for brunch and a chance to try flavorful new dishes.

Yelp
After my first time visiting Babs, I'm already a huge fan. They offer creative breakfast/brunch fare that one doesn't normally see other places. The current menu for when I visited included items like Moroccan stew, BLT risotto, tamarind braised pork, and Indian-style tostadas. Once the food got served, our table went dead silent, because the food was so good we couldn't do anything but eat. You're greeted at the front counter by the owner, and like other Yelpers have mentioned, he's very direct, but he's also very helpful in making sure you get a dish that you are going to love. The service was top notch as well. Babs is a pretty small space, so if you can make a reservation, I'd advise doing so, but if it's a short wait, the meal will definitely be worth that wait.

Yelp
TLDR: Owner/operator salt pepper haired older man will kick you out once you are done having your food. Discrimination, lack of customer service, and rudeness is what you can expect if that man is there. I will never return and recommend everyone stay away. I went to Babs, across the street from my apartment, today for the 2nd time. The 1st time I came, an older salt and pepper haired man who seemed to be the owner or friends of the owner as he told us, treated me and my bf very well. This time, today, I came to meet a friend for a coffee. I arrived at 11:30 and my friend had been there since 11:10. She told me the same gentleman/owner was questioning her why she ordered coffee instead of waiting for me. When I arrived, he seemed a bit rushed to make us order at the counter which I know that's where u order but he seemed upset that I didn't know what I wanted there and then. We ordered food and ate and stayed talking. The server came to us several times after we finished and grabbed boxes to ask us if we needed anything and we politely said no. We had been there for 1 hr total and were not asking for more service but just talking and catching up. Finally, the same gentleman that is the owner or manager came and told us there were reservations and that we were encouraged to go outside to sit and talk. The restaurant was half empty and we were on a 2 seat table. I live across the street and passed by just now while walking my dog and the restaurant is pretty much empty. It seemed so rude and off-putting to make paying customers leave an hour after arrival just because the check had been paid or there were non existent reservations. I felt discriminated against and very embarrassed towards my friend who I talked such good things about this place to after all of this. Do not come if you are planning on staying longer than an hour. I will not be returning.

Yelp
Food we ordered was full of flavor and delicious so recommend this joint on that alone. The set up is different, you order at the counter and then are shuffled off to a table. The person at the front counter was rough (if that's the right word). Seemed a bit intolerable of people not knowing the process. For reasons unbeknownst to me, this personality added to the charm of the overall experience though. We'd go back on the food alone.

Yelp
Had a lovely brunch at Bab's this morning. Was absolutely covered up with service, and the food was DELISH. Randy behind the counter was lovely, took his time assisting us choose, and picked our drinks for us. Highly recommend this cute little place, we will absolutely be back!

Steve S.

Yelp
A wonderful little place for breakfast or lunch. We did brunch and it was excellent. Very friendly, helpful recommendations based on what we like. Quick service, funky decor. Highly recommend you check it out if you are in Midtown. We had to look twice for the side entrance with some construction around but glad we did.

Yelp
I'm not sure how I ended up at Babs but I'm thankful I did. We came for brunch after being completely ripped off at the Marriott Suites Grille 35. (Side note: never eat at Grille 35 unless you love wasting money.) The Babs experience begins with Randy, who has a razor sharp wit. Don't let his style of humor insult you. Just enjoy it! The staff here are top notch and service was impeccable. Our server was Kate (rhymes with great) and she made us feel like old friends. We sat outside in an adorable garden with grape vines and a koi pond. A surprise for such an urban environment. The food was also incredible. I had the Moroccan Stew which was recommended by Randy. I told him I like it spicy. It was exactly what I had hoped for. I also ended up eating the balance of my wife's Shakshuka, also delicious. My father-in-law was looking for something a little more American, causing Randy to bark, "Kids menu!" to a nearby server. I'd highly recommend bringing a family member who voted for Trump if you want to see them react to Randy saying all the things you're thinking. I suspected Randy's unconventional style as a host might be intended to turn away shitty people. I've had a look at some of the negative reviews, which mostly focused on Randy's personality, and think if it is a strategy to keep away awful people, it's working.

Hannah R.

Yelp
Great food and quick service. Everyone is so nice! The vibes were cozy and chill. 10/10

Neeshu P.

Yelp
The food was pretty overpriced and the portions were extremely subpar compared to what we expected, and simply did not taste that good

Eric K.

Yelp
terrible experience. owner is arrogant and downright rude. I was verbally berated for something off his menu, that he said was for kids only. then he upsold me on a dish that I didn't want that ended up being inedible. $40 for one person for breakfast is ridiculous in Atlanta, especially with terrible service and inedible food. should have gone to Waffle House instead
google avatar

Shaketta G.

Yelp
I would not go back. The Mimosa was terrible. The breakfast plate that I ordered was Just ok. The food was not hot when I received it, it was warm. I was asked to leave my table and sit in the waiting area when I finished my food. I couldn't sit at the table to finish my coffee so I just left. I would not recommend this place.
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
I wish I had taken a picture of my meal before hand but I was too excited to eat it! I got the Koshary and it was amazing. Staff was so kind and welcoming. It was hard to pick something from the menu because it all looked good. Don't let the outside fool you this place had awesome food.

Janay A.

Yelp
Absolutely love it here. So cozy and the foods ALWAYS amazing. My fav is the BLT risotto everytime it's on the menu I immediately know what I'm having. Although when my fav aren't there I can always trust they'll have something I like. Breakfast is always the best here ! And I love how friendly the staff are I always feel right at home.

Yelp
Midtown location: The food and place are OK and the guy behind the counter ruined it. His behavior comes across as rude and condescending. The restaurant's setup and the atmosphere are uneasy because of him. BTW the rest of the waitress were nice and attentive. You don't get to sit and read a menu, you have to pick at the entrance from the menu without prices and then pay a premium for God knows what you just picked and how good it is. Seems that this location has the worst reviews. We are not coming back if he is there.
google avatar

Rachel L.

Yelp
If you want a culinary delight as well as a joyous experience. Go. To. Babs. The food is exquisite ( get the Moroccan stew with an egg) and talk to Alan. He'll give you the whole history of the restaurant and town while delighting you with his charm!! Thanks for making my Atlanta week!

Emily J.

Yelp
The atmosphere in the restaurant is so welcoming and fantastic. the staff are extremely knowledgeable about the menu and very accommodating. The food itself is great and offers a wide variety for everyone in your group. As a vegan they had multiple tastey options and were willing to adjust dishes to make them vegan. love this place!

Yelp
TLDR; A bit too much sass at the ordering counter but good service and decent food. My first time here so I did not realize they took orders at the counter (I had only browsed the menu so I didn't know what all the options were when I walked up). The person behind the counter asked me if I had any allergies to anything (great start! and they were consistent with all the follow up guests I saw). He also asked me for food preference in terms of flavor, to which I responded "Spicy sounds good" and he made a few suggestions. Unfortunately they didn't seem appealing to me (a stew at 9 am or just lentils was not what I was looking for) so I proceeded to browse the menu they had on the counter. I was then asked "what would you be drinking beside your water" and I said "Do you guys have espresso?" (I think it's appropriate since I didn't see anything on the menu) to which he responded "Just tell me what you would like" (too much sass for me, sorry I don't know what you have and don't want to order things that don't exist there....). I told him I'd like a latte and followed up with asking alternative milk options (they have oat milk, no almond milk), still getting sass. Anyways I decide on the Slutty Egg or whatever (BEC on brioche) to which he says "That's not spicy, but OK". That was a real negative experience. It really knocked down my entire experience. I would've given this a 2 stars if it weren't for the waiters being attentive and nice and the food being decent. My latte was large but it tasted like it was just steamed milk with regular coffee (only had a couple of sips and unfortunately left the rest).

Mike B.

Yelp
First, the gentleman behind the counter, who I assume is the owner, was quite pushy and rushed us as we were trying to figure out the menu. I felt like I was buying a used car -- not breakfast. There were no prices listed -- and his cashiering was so quick I couldn't tell what we were paying. The total was upwards of $60 for two meals and two cocktails. The food was ok -- the pancakes were baby sized and we didn't taste the lemon and ricotta they claimed were inside. The WORST PART -- we literally had just finished eating when the pushy used car salesman came to our table to tell us it is a small restaurant and if we wanted to stay we needed to move to the "lounge." Dude, let us digest our meal. Expand or deal with it. I could see if we were sitting there for an hour. Would NOT go back.
google avatar

Traci M.

Yelp
So I really wanted to love this place, it seems like from the past reviews like a small unknown kind of brunch spot that had really good food and the menu items definitely look really good so when you get there you order at the cash register and then you go sit down we got the table by the pond which was definitely very lovely but my friend got the risotto and I got the egg slut. The risotto is definitely not cooked properly because it was very mushy and my sandwich just tasted really bland along with the potatoes and I was really intrigued by the slap your mama corn bread so we got that I would definitely say it was very interesting a little too spicy for me but I could appreciate the flavor profile

Dana B.

Yelp
This was my first time at Babs, and the food and atmosphere was fantastic! I appreciated having breakfast/brunch choices beyond the typical omelettes, basic eggs and bacon plates, and pancakes. I ordered the shakshuka, which was delicious, and paired it with coffee (also delicious...not your typical watered down breakfast spot coffee). The staff was very nice and attentive, and Randy was a treat: he offered helpful suggestions and took the time to answer all questions about the menu. Note that Randy is direct, and tells it like it is. Perhaps that is intimidating to some, but I find it refreshing. I can see why Babs is an institution, and I will be back!
google avatar

Kimberly S.

Yelp
Awesome experience! Went with a couple girlfriends and had such a fun time. You're greeted at the you at the front where you order straight at the counter then find your seating. We were given recommendations, based on our preferences and it was DELICIOUS. The staff is wonderful and super genuine. The owner, I believe, works at the front and the first face you see. He is someone you gotta have a quick wit with and have the ability to laugh at yourself and him; have all those and you'll have a great and fun interaction. If you're on the serious side and humor is a bit low, keep your interactions quick and hustle to your table; but personally, I would love to talk with him and the staff all day if I could. Parking is either luck on the street free of charge (on a Sunday) or the restaurant has small lot for less than $10.
google avatar

MiquilinA H.

Yelp
Food was pretty good. The place looks eclectic with all the snow globes and old show paraphernalia. As for the service everyone was nice. However I came a a little over a half hour before the restaurant closed so I felt rushed to order since they take their last orders at 1:30. Parking was $5 in the parking lot in front of the restaurant.
google avatar

Yelp
I can't say enough about how iconic and amazing BABS is to the community and to its new customers! The service is always a delight and a hoot and your meals will always be tasty!!.. THANK YOU to all the staff and cooking crew for always making my visit spectacular!!
google avatar

Joshua G.

Yelp
Decent food. I would definitely not return though. Small and cramped space. Staff are nothing to rave about. It's a very weird vibe and not for most. There is way better and friendlier places to eat nearby.

Matthew E.

Yelp
Such an amazing experience! The food was incredible, the atmosphere was perfect and the staff was kind, fun and welcoming. I'd give Babs a 10 stars (out of 5) if it was an option.

Brian C.

Yelp
Just had brunch at Babs. Very eclectic menu that gets you to venture out from traditional brunch. I had French pancakes and eggs. Food is excellent and the owner made some great suggestions from the menu. Check it out!
google avatar

Katie R.

Yelp
10/10 will always recommend! The vibes of this restaurant was amazing and a complete experience. I had stumbled upon this restaurant on yelp, and I instantly loved it. When I arrived and went inside, the owner, Randy, and other staff members were so nice and welcoming. I was alone, and they made me feel more comfortable by recommending meals after asking my preferences. The food was amazing! It reminded me of back home in Louisiana, and the view took me back to my stay in Paris on Sunday mornings. The other customers that were sitting on the patio were so nice as well. This new to town girl loved every minute of it, and I will be coming back on a weekly basis now!

Yelp
I recently visited Babs and wanted to share a quick review. One thing that stood out was Randy's sassy attitude, which added an extra flair to the experience. If you can't handle some sass, it might be best to consider dining elsewhere. However, if you're up for it, let Randy pick your drink and even your food. The brunch at Babs was delightful, with well-prepared dishes served in a timely manner. The flavors were satisfying, and the presentation was pleasing. Keep in mind that Babs is tucked away and has limited hours. Be sure to check their Facebook page for updates on their menu. There is a paid parking lot right next door and the outdoor seating is mostly shaded. Just don't adjust the overhead fan speed without asking first. (Sorry, Randy) Overall, if you're ready for Randy's sass and want to enjoy a delicious brunch, Babs is worth a visit.

Yelp
Ecletic atmosphere, good food, great coffee. The egg dishes are different than what you are used to, but are worth trying.
google avatar

Andy D.

Yelp
Terrible food and staff! I will not spend another penny at this sorry excuse for an eatery!
google avatar

Whitney T.

Yelp
Oh. My. God. When traveling we really try to find unique places in new cities and we for everything we bargained for at Bab's. Just a little hole-in-the wall kind of place, with the guy greeting and taking orders having so much personality and being so fun! He helped us with our order based on our tastes and dietary preferences, and both his recommendations delivered! Husband got the Moroccan and I got the Bayou and we switched halfway through. We honestly ate until it was painful, and then were given dessert! They are selling frozen take home meals right now to help during these hard times because of the pandemic and we will definitely be swinging by tomorrow to get some on our way out of town! Cannot recommend enough. If you haven't been, what are you waiting for?!
google avatar

Stephanie G.

Yelp
Babs is an Atlanta staple that everyone has to experience at least once in their life. I haven't been here in awhile and it appears they've switched to counter service. Order at the counter and the nice gentleman will grab you water and assign you to a table. We had our dog with us during this trip so I asked if we could sit outside. We ordered coffee, mushroom/arugula omelet that came with toast, potatoes and fruit, and Juniper St breakfast that came with 2 eggs, biscuit, potatoes, turkey sausage and fruit with a side of silver dollar pancakes. Food was decent and service was pretty good as well.
google avatar

Joe W.

Yelp
Counter service breakfast spot with great food. I can honestly say I've never had any cornbread like they have here...and I can't stop thinking about it. Great service too. So glad we went here.
google avatar

Savanna S.

Yelp
Incredible! You pay for what you get! Service was quick without feeling rushed. Highly recommend! Pleasant staff as well.
google avatar

Tracey D.

Yelp
My bacon was undercooked. Be prepared to be rushed through your order. They are efficient, but I like a little calmer atmosphere. I don't want to be badgered about taking time to place my order especially if it's my first time somewhere. Since you Oder as soon as you enter to door before you are seated, that was my experience. Food was okay. My husband selected this place, I would have preferred somewhere else.
google avatar

Kristen A.

Yelp
My Saturday morning started as a complete bust - I had driven into Atlanta from Athens, had original breakfast plans fall through, and was starving. A coworker and I randomly saw Babs on a map and decided why not. Finding parking was incredibly easy (and affordable!) and we were immediately in love with the place before we even walked in! The outdoor dining area was incredibly cute, but unfortunately full today. Ordering at the counter was a breeze with the staff helping us pick from their ever changing menu by asking if we wanted sweet or savory, spicy or not, and recommending from there. I landed on the blueberry French toast and was blown away. It came with potatoes, eggs, and a choice of meat (bacon for me). The portion was plenty big for me and i brought my leftovers home! Will definitely be back and can hopefully sit outside and try a cocktail I kept seeing others with!

Yelp
If you want a stranger (Service) person to pick your food this is a plus for you. I like to take my time to order what I like, he just assumes that you will like the food he recommends and then the food is delivered to your table and they get it mixed up. I hate this place, I would never come again. I am sorry but I don't like to be surprised in what I'm going to be eating. They screw my order twice. I wish I can tell what I order but nope, I have no mother idea.
google avatar

Yelp
I've always loved this place. It's relatively small and it gives a homey feel. You order at the front and they bring out the food to you very quickly. You can sit inside or outside, but not a place for big groups. The food is spectacular and seems to change at times. I ordered the shrimp shakshouka and it was very flavorful. Honestly I'm craving it again while writing the review. My friends got the cowboy breakfast and the blueberry French toast and said it was amazing as well. I don't think you can go wrong with whatever you pick here.

Yelp
Babs is a cute little, seemingly hole-in-the-wall breakfast/brunch spot in Midtown! They have such a unique and flavorful menu. We came here to show my sister around Atlanta and had heard good reviews about Babs and their southern breakfast options. To start, there is a paid parking lot in front of Babs, so it's not too hard to park. The restaurant itself isn't too big but also not too small, but great for a few friends. The cashier/server was a very interesting individual that had colorful ways of informing us about the menu. A little sassy with a touch of sarcastic energy in his tone. Still made it silly for us. I was intrigued by the different menu options, they had very traditional breakfasts but also very savory and heartier meals. I ordered a stew and and it was super yummy.

Yelp
Just had a wonderful breakfast. The BLT risotto was delicious! It was a creamy spin on a BLT. Our host was so friendly and made our experience fun.
