Babylonstoren Review - Klapmuts - Cape Town - The Infatuation

"Babylonstoren is one of Cape Town’s most popular vineyards and is great for a lunch break between tastings around Stellenbosch and Franschoek. There are two restaurants, Babel and the Greenhouse Restaurant, that are both located on its working farm. Babel does fine dining and offers family-style platters for group bookings and a seasonal à la carte menu for smaller parties, while the Greenhouse Restaurant is more casual, situated in the middle of the farm’s produce gardens, and serves dishes like spiced garden pot pie and Spanish cured pork loin.  Don’t miss out on the farm’s expansive wine tasting menu, featuring Babylonstoren’s flagship wines like the Nebukadnesar and Sprankel. If you’re hoping to eat at Babel, make sure to book a spot—it’s one of the most popular stops along Cape Town’s wine routes, and reservations open nine months in advance." - Brigitte Cave

Absolutely five stars for this stunning and authentic wine estate in South Africa! From the moment you arrive, you're surrounded by breathtaking views, lush vineyards, and a peaceful atmosphere that makes you feel like you've stepped into a postcard. The wine tasting experience is truly exceptional — each wine tells a story, with rich colors and layers of flavor that unfold beautifully on the palate. From bold reds to crisp whites, everything is perfectly balanced and crafted with care. The guides are knowledgeable, passionate, and incredibly friendly, offering detailed explanations about each vintage, the estate’s history, and the winemaking process. It’s not just a tasting — it’s a journey through South African terroir and tradition. Whether you're a wine enthusiast or a curious traveler, this estate offers an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking to indulge in world-class wines and warm South African hospitality.

A once in a lifetime experience. We had lunch and a wine pairing in the greenhouse because the weather was atrocious and it was breathtaking. The staff is so friendly and the food exceeded my expectations, fresh ingredients, prime cuts of protein and substantial portions. The trout, soup and turnips were a standout but everything was great. The wine was a disappointment, but that could have more to do more with our choices than their range. All in all, I would emphatically recommend the Babylonstoren Wine Estate for a unique and luxurious afternoon.

What an amazing day. A day is not enough and I am so glad to have signed up as a member. Went to Soetmelksvlei. Thank you for securing heritage and almost lost artisan trades. The restaurant was well staffed and exceptionally friendly staff are always willing to chat explain and assist The buffet has one of the best selections and variety of dishes I have seen on the local front. From cream making, the kraal, meatroom, distillery, flour milling and a fantastic display of skills fitting new metal rings on wagon wheels were amazing. Returning to Babylonstoren where you are continued to be met by efficient staff, there were loads of restaurants, gardens, donkeys and gardens. As I said earlier you need more than one day to take your time and try and see everything. Only a visit will truly let you experience what they have on offer. Its not a cheap exercise but worth it over and over. Youll see me soon again.

What a great feeling walking through the meticulously kept gardens and been able to read up about certain historical features of the farm. Plenty of little shops to pop into that is products made either on the farm or for the farm. The ice cream was delicious, i had the coffee flavoured one my wife the brandy flavoured and bothe where fantastic We also had the caramel filled croissants and yummy is all I can say. We had lunch two of us had the burger and two had the pasta dish. The food was great tasting, downside that it was all bit on the pricey side for locals. They staff from the reception area to all the shop service staff as well the gardeners were all very happy to help, kind and courteous. It is wheelchair friendly and if required ask the reception staff and they organise the chair for when you arrive. At the moment the road leading to the farm is under construction so there may be a little wait but that is the downside of improving the area.

I cannot express how much this was the highlight of my last trip to the Western Cape. It was absolutely breathtaking ! There are a ton gardens (botanical, herb, spice, cactus , citrus) to walk through. Several options for food, snacks, coffee, and three restaurants to choose from. They also have a hotel to stay at and a vineyard to wine taste. An absolute gem and must see for anyone coming to Frenchhoek.

One of the best wineries I’ve ever visited, not even sure where to start! The beautiful scenery is breathtaking, and the experience is made even better by the charming stores scattered throughout the estate, offering fresh produce, coffee, dairy, and winery products. Everything is incredibly fresh and high-quality. The restaurants have a lovely outdoor setting with a great menu and fair prices. Walking around the estate and tasting fruit straight from the trees was an unforgettable experience, I got to try figs and plums in season, and they were absolutely delicious! The service and hospitality were excellent, making for a truly relaxing and enjoyable day. This is hands down one of the best wineries for those looking to unwind, explore, and indulge in fresh, high-quality offerings. Highly recommend!

Beautiful wine farm! There is an entry fee 200 rands per person. It is totally worth! The garden is so beautiful and well maintained. The quality of things in shops are great. They serve free fruits. Staffs are so kind and decent. The garden and property are huge and many things to see and enjoy. So you need to have enough time to visit here. At least 2hrs. I visited with my family. There are many places that kids love like swing, donkey, pumpkin tunnel, mist tunnel.

The gardens are stunning. It's well-maintained and will definitely peak the interest of gardeners. There's a huge variety of fruit and vegetables trees and a display of pumpkins that's quite interesting to see. The restaurant doesn't offer a great variety of meal options but the pasta & focaccia was tasty. There are little shops with a variety of goods eg biscuits & chocolate & craft etc. Also cheeses and meats as well as ice-cream. Kids can feed donkeys too. It's worth the visit if you don't mind paying the R150 entry fee.
