Barcelona’s Best Restaurants in the Gothic Quarter, El Born, and El Raval - Eater

"Find this more affordable, quirkier offshoot of the much-lauded Xemei in Poble Sec on one of the side streets that leads to la Boqueria. It’s small and rickety, but there is more than enough creativity coming out of this Italian kitchen to make up for it, like tender homemade gnocchi with wild asparagus smothered in shaved katsuobushi, a fermented fish." - Suzy Taher

Pasta was cooked very well. Flavors were well balanced and portions were generous. Will definitely be back. Highly recommend this place. Do recommend reservations.

Hands down the best Italian meal I’ve had in Barcelona. The ragu was really excellent, as was the casarecce. All clearly homemade and incredibly flavoursome. The wine selection was fantastic. The decor and vibe of the restaurant is also wonderfully rustic. The service was extremely warm and friendly.

The place is just amazing! The food was very nice from fresh products. The service is perfect, very attentive and helpful, the cook agreed to overcook my pasta, as my stomach is not very strong. For starters we had fried eggplant and smoked mozzarella, the last one especially was impeccable 🫰🏻 Pappardelle pasta with pork and beef was creamy and nourishing, portions were big. The atmosphere is super friendly, just when you enter the restaurant you fall in love with the smell, well, I did, it smelled of very good food, something like cream pasta I had. The bread they give you is fluffy and spongy, highly recommended to eat with smoked mozzarella.

Amazing food, atmosphere, and staff! I would come back any day. The wine was delicious, the food suggestions were perfect, and the staff’s help and guidance were excellent. For Italian food in Barcelona, this is my top recommendation!

Really lovely place with a homely feel and really lovely staff. Food was absolutely delicious, one of our best meals in Barcelona (if not the best!) Well deserved reputation for great food

If you’re in Barcelona and craving a taste of Venice, Bacaro is a must-visit. The warm, welcoming service sets the tone for a fantastic meal. The menu features authentic Venetian dishes, and I had the veal liver—cooked to perfection with rich, bold flavors. The cozy atmosphere and excellent food make it a standout spot for something unique in the heart of the city. Highly recommend!

Our group of 4 had the most amazing dinner here. Everything from the food to service was 10/10. If you are looking for the best Italian meal in Barcelona, this is it. All staff were so attentive and friendly, from the waiters to the chefs, including the owner who is a huge personality and checks in on diners. We enjoyed the betroot risotto with salmon so much that we ordered another serving! Highly recommend

Yelp
Blown away. Tutto perfetto. Genovese pesto in Barcelona means one happy boy. Barbera d'Alba for 25 E a bottle and killer tiramisu. Paradise. Also, I read it is a seafood Mecca as well.

Yelp
I was a bit nervous being a young American walking in by myself with no reservation. I walked into the small, cozy but lively restaurant and was immediately greeted and seated at the bar. The bartender was very kind and made me feel very welcomed. I ordered a beer, bread, oysters, and the steak tartare. To be frank, I was blown away but the flood and I can without a doubt say this was one of best meals I've had in my life. This is my second time in Barcelona and it is an instant must-go recommendation for anyone visiting. Although a bit pricey for someone like me traveling a budget, it was well worth

Yelp
Small menu with great food for great prices. The beef tartare, burrata, and tagliolini were delicious. Nice space that is well-kept and comfortable. The host was accommodating for a large group with no reservation.

Yelp
Idk who exactly reviewed this restaurant prior to today but nothing on Yelp was on the menu! I still decided to give it a try and I was so disappointed! I ordered duck and it came cold, I also order the risotto with salmon and I wish I took a picture to show y'all what this salmon looked like! It was 2 tiny strips of something! Everyone else who came after me as a group left immediately! I'm sorry if other reviews says otherwise but trust me it's not worth your time and don't go there!

Yelp
We stumbled into here for an early dinner - and were lucky to get a table. It was our best meal in Barcelona - the food was delicious, not to mention beautiful.

Yelp
A hidden gem in a foodie town. The only restaurant that I visited twice. This Italian restaurant has elevated dishes with beautiful plating. This was the first time (out of many tries) that I enjoyed ink spaghetti. It was actually seasoned and flavorful. The menu is limited and focused. Each appetizer came out with vibrant flavors (especially the acidity to cut through some of the heavier food). Service could not be any warmer. I was greeted as genuinely the first visit as I was when he recognized me on my second visit. They put ice in with the olives here, which gives them a meaty, juicy crunch. Highly recommended. Only four stars because I did not try the main entrees yet (their steak is sublime according to a few local recommendations). I'll be back!!

Yelp
This place was outstanding. The food rivaled what I ate in Rome and Florence. The pasta was superb and the service was very friendly - they treat you like you're family. Absolutely recommend coming here, especially if you're looking for a break from tapas!

Yelp
My best ever Italian dinner. Don't miss this place. Make a reservation and enjoy. A place to soak up the talent that is Barcelona's best.

Larry H.

Yelp
Amazing. Very low key restaurant with great atmosphere but don't let it fool you. Food was outstanding and authentic true to owner's Toscana upbringing. Great break from all the tapas we had.

Yelp
So welcoming even for 5 without a reservation. Service was excellent, seconded only by the food with gnocchi being a highlight. Got busy quickly after 8.

Yelp
Great food and great people. This is a must go. The wild boar ragu with pappardelle was fantastic.

Yelp
Out of the way and worth the effort to get there! A very welcoming place. Tables are set beautifully, friendly wait persons. All of that and scrumptious food! If you truly love great food, don't miss Bacaro. From a foodie from New Orleans

Yelp
This place is outstanding! It is tucked into a corner a few blocks off of Las Rambla and relatively small. The food is authentic as Italian gets. I started off with the burrata salad, which was dynamite, then followed it up with a homemade seafood spaghetti. All the pasta is made in house. As one should, they cooked the pasta very al dente then finished it in the fying pan with the seafood (prawns, mussels and clams). As it was lunch, and I ate enough for two people, I didnt' have room for desert but that looked outstanding as well. Of course, in typical European form, ice was non existant for the sparking water I ordered, but that would just have been expecting too much. At the end of the day, if you are looking for good Italian while in Barcelona, this absolutely the place to go. While I love trying new restaurants, when I'm here next I will definitely be hitting this restaurant up again. As an fyi, the cost was as follows: Burrata salad: 16 Euro Pasta: 19 Euro Cappucino: 3 Euro Pallegrino (mid size bottle): 3 Euro Bread (didn't see this charge coming): 2.50 Euro

Yelp
Really...just outstanding. The dishes were perfect. Small quaint...atmosphere is casual...no highlights really there...but they sure do focus on their food. A delight.

Yelp
Amazing food! Friendly staff and mouthwatering food. Not on our concierge's list which I think is good because its not a paid recommendation then.

Yelp
Terrific authentic Italian restaurant. The owner is from Venice and the chefs are from Italy as well. The food is impeccable and beautifully presented. The atmosphere is relaxing and fresh. Fernando, our server, was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about everything the restaurant had to offer. The menu changes constantly and every dish is a must-have so nothing will disappoint. Highly recommended.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING!! My girlfriend and I were in San Sebastián a few days before Barcelona and someone told us we had to come here. The menu is created every night based on what's available, so everything is super fresh. We couldn't understand everything available, so the waiter went over each item to help us order. Their customer service is the best I've had in Barcelona. I got the Suprema white fish and my girlfriend got the Ragu. Both plates were cleaned. For dessert, we had the pistachio cake with pistachio ice cream. It was so good we got a piece to go so we could have it for breakfast.

Yelp
Wow. Excellent food prepared artistically. Warm and welcoming staff. Organic and local ingredients. Great wine list. Not your typical Italian restaurant - more like farm-to-table cooking in a small unpretentious space. If you have a chance, eat there!
