The 22 Best Restaurants In Kansas City, Missouri 2024

"There are plenty of great Italian restaurants in Kansas City, like the original Garozzo’s in Columbus Park and Ragazza Food & Wine. Bacaro Primo, owned by the team behind Earl’s Premier, feels specifically made for special occasions, where you can impress a date without the whole night feeling stuffy. You can always rely on the fried olives and charcuterie, but the mains are where this place shines. The bucatini with chili flakes packs just the right amount of heat, and we once had a pork tenderloin with fig jam and balsamic that was tender enough to rival any of the best BBQ in KC." - ryan bernsten

We were in the neighborhood and went to Google to find an Italian restaurant because that is what we were craving. Great location, and absolutely love the vibe. I don't know if they can do large parties as it's a very small place but it is also a very cool space. It's definitely Italian but I would say a more modern Italian - like Italian with a flare. It wasn't absolutely delicious but it was very good. One of the things that is very big to me, as far as service, is if our drinks are ever empty. One thing I like about the restaurant, and restaurants like this, is they put a container of water on the table. The problem is the water glasses are very small and our container of water was empty and I had to ask for it to be refilled. That is a big indication if there is good service (the restaurant was not busy). I will say our waiter was very sweet and kind. I didn't absolutely fall in love with any of the dishes so I don't know if I will be back and I don't know if I can highly recommend. But it's a nice place.

Delicious food and drinks! The waitstaff was very friendly and great at answering any questions. I did expect my pasta to have a little more flavor, but it was still great overall!

Angie took fantastic care of us! She was very detailed and knowledgeable when we asked about certain items. She did not linger but was always around when we needed her. The Rosa pizza was outstanding. Spicy enough with the subtle hint of honey. The meatballs were some of the best I’ve ever had, over a bed of ricotta that was just velvety and great. I had never had a variation of mussels with potato’s however I was pleasantly surprised. Nice and balanced with a thickened broth from the potato’s. We also tried the Olive Frittes, Shrimp Scampi, Bolognese, Gelato Trio and Olive Oil cake which were all superb. The restaurant feels European and cozy. 10/10!

Stopped in for lunch & was not disappointed. It is such a cute space and the food was fantastic. All the way down to the dessert. Staff very helpful in talking through menu items & offering suggestions. Will definitely be back!

Google
Food and service were both great!! We had the focaccia and arincini to start. Both were yummy, tho the arincini came in a white sauce and I didn't get much flavor from that. I would have preferred a nice marinara sauce. Their classic house salad was tasty, it had the addition of some celery which gave it an interesting flavor profile. Ordered the pasta bolognese for my entrée and it was delicious, I added some red pepper flakes for heat. Tiramisu was light and fluffy, great flavor. Will definitely be back!!

Google
Stopped into this gem for some after dinner drinks. First time here and I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and service. The fresh bread was absolutely fantastic and the cocktails were top notch. Will definitely be back to try some dinner options!

Google
Great food, great drinks, great staff! We decided to try Bacaro Primo last minute and not surprisingly they were full for reservations on their website for the evening. I called and spoke with Jared who was super nice and helpful to speak with and he recommended we come and wait to get a spot in the bar area once available. Once there, Jared got us on the list, we waited in the bar area and had some fantastic drinks and they were able to squeeze us in a spot after about 20-30 minutes. We had their Focaccia which was amazing. A salad, Rosa Pizza, and Bolognese and finished with some desserts. All the food was fantastic and we've already talked about coming back again!

Google
This is such a quaint little place, our server Ben was delightful! ( and really cute too). we walked in and got a seat at the bar within 15 minutes! The host was really sweet and made sure we were satisfied with a beverage while we waited! The food was just amazing and Ben seemed very knowledgeable about the whole menu! Can’t wait to go back, love this place!

Yelp
Everything was great! We had chicken parm, lasagna, pasta bolognese. The bruschetta was good and the Caesar salad was outstanding

Yelp
A fellow foodie told me this week that her favorite restaurant is Bacaro Primo. So that encouraged my wife and I to visit the restaurant today. We were lucky to arrive on a Saturday afternoon without a reservation and found a table available. The restaurant's small dining room, plus its strong reputation, makes it tough to snag a reservation. The family seated next to us were raving fans of BP. They pointed out their favorites on the menu. We ordered the Panzanella Salad and it was exquisite. In fact, I would have been happy to order a second. What stood out was the warm butternut squash and croutons, and the spicy honey dressing. We are ready to crown it world's best, it was that unique and good. When I visit a new Italian restaurant, I order the Margherita pizza. It's a classic and showcases the amazing crust and sauce. The Rigatoni wasn't what we expected. It almost appeared to be a vegan dish. I was expecting a meatier sauce. It took 20 minutes to serve our salad and another 20 minutes for our pizza and salad. Our server Madison was great to work with. And I was impressed the manager on duty stopped by our table to check on our satisfaction. I'd love to bring several guests for dinner where we could order more items from the delicious menu.

Yelp
This is one of my new favorite restaurants. The food was absolutely delicious. My friend and I split a pizza, the pasta on special and the arancini appetizer. It was all amazing. I love the intimate cozy vibe inside, plus the service was very attentive. I can't wait to return!

Yelp
Ughhhhhh so good. We sat at the bar area since we didnt have a reservation & it was fully packed. The bar seemed very modern & felt sophisticated but comfy. I like it. But really the part that impressed me was their food!!!!! Ugh the tuna tartare was unique but one of the best I've had so far. Meatballs very good & the butternut squash pasta is definitely worth coming back for & i will be back!!! Great work

Yelp
This spot has been on my list for a while and I finally got to try! The inside of bacaro primo is warm and cozy and perfect to go to during the cold! The staff were quick to get us seated and offer their specials. I got the arancini to start and absolutely loved the sauce at the bottom! For the main course I got the rigatoni guanciale which was a unique dish. The butternut squash and hazelnuts complimented each other and offered sweetness with the heartiness of the guanciale balancing the meal out.

Yelp
I saw this little place while doing some Christmas shopping at the Crestwood shops. My husband and I decided to try a little lunch date here and it was delicious! The place is quaint so I looked ahead for a reservation. We wanted to really try out the food so we had a bigger lunch. Arancini for the start and then split the Chicago beef sandwich and paccheri pasta. Everything was spot on. Loved that the arancini was served on aioli instead of a red sauce. I also had a sunset in Venice spritz and a classic Negroni. Both were very good but their spritz was refreshing and different. Loved the look of the restaurant and our waitress was perfect. Can't wait to try a dinner there!

Yelp
Baraco Primo is a premium gem located in the vibrant Brookside area, and our search for a new and exciting dining spot certainly paid off this weekend. The restaurant is housed in a charming building that exudes a welcoming atmosphere from the moment you step inside. For fellow bar enthusiasts, you'll be pleased to know there are two generously sized bar areas that provide a perfect setting for enjoying your evening. Every member of the staff was both engaging and professional, enhancing our overall experience. When it comes to drinks, Baraco Primo offers an impressive selection. Their pours are generous, and the flavors are impeccably balanced. Our culinary adventure began with the Carne Cruda, which was not only excellent but also delightfully rich. It's a dish that's perfect for sharing between two people. Next, we savored the Chicago Italian Beef. The flavor was outstanding, the jus was flavorful, and the giardiniera was spot on. The bread was superb and held up well against the jus. While I prefer my Italian beef a bit wetter, it was still an exceptional meal. To conclude our feast, we couldn't resist the meatballs. As a connoisseur always on the hunt for the world's best meatballs, I've tasted some incredible ones. These meatballs were impressive, with an excellent presentation that included a knockout sauce, oil, and bread. The flavor was good, although the meatballs were a tad dense for my liking. My wife, however, was thoroughly impressed. Without a doubt, I would order them every time we visit. In summary, Baraco Primo is a must-visit spot in Kansas City. Add it to your list of places to explore - you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Food was really good and the service was friendly and thoughtful. He had the tomato soup (papa al pomodoro) with no ricotta and a Chicago beef. I had the pollo al Milanese. All of the food was delicious! Only critique was that we weren't aware that there would be cheese on the fries, and we had asked for no cheese in that meal. We shared a gelato--pistachio is to die for, the vanilla with olive oil was super smooth and the chocolate was very rich. The restaurant is really cute, with a modern Italian brasserie vibe. We sat outside and enjoyed the dog watching in the Crestwood area.

Yelp
Definitely my new favorite restaurant in KC. Situated on the cutest street in Brookside, everything about this place and the atmosphere is classy. We started with the cheese stuffed focaccia and I think I teared up when I took a bite. You dip it in a garlicy olive oil and my taste buds were sent to heaven and back. Next, we tried the bucatini & paccheri and both were delightful. Our service was warm! We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
We went here for lunch today & it was outstanding! I am super picky esp when it comes to Italian & this was excellent. We started off with the burrata and added grilled toast (it should be included instead of having to pay separately) and it was absolutely fantastic! The balance between the burrata and the olives and the orange rind was perfect. I had the rigatoni & it was so good. My husband had the bolognese and it was also very good. We went ahead and added a pizza to make sure we had leftovers and it was good but lacking in sauce and I don't even prefer red sauce on my pizza! Our server was very helpful and attentive, and we will definitely go back!

Yelp
Smart menu. Great staff. Cool bar. and the food - It's so well executed as is the wine and cocktail program. I hope these owners keep it up!

Yelp
Great spot located close to the Brookside area. It's a cozy Italian vibe with the restaurant being centered around an open bar. Drink menu is a nice balance of cocktails as well as Italian wines. I'm a Negroni lover so I had the Primo Negroni which was excellent. For starters we had the Focaccia served with roasted garlic and cheese (total yum) and the arancini. For the mains we had 2 pastas including the pesto Campanelle and the bolognese. Both were pretty tasty- the Campanelle was a little heavy handed on the lemon but had a fresh pesto flavor. We tried the creamed kale veggie dish, which in our opinion was too salty to be edible. We mentioned this to the kitchen and they were happy to take this off our bill (dishes can be off so not a big deal). We finished with the limoncello cake which was very lemony and moist! Perfect end to dinner. Good addition to the KC food scene. Would give 4/5 stars. Not blown away by any means but would try again. Cute date spot.

Yelp
Excellent service and good food. Hard to get reservations -book early. The menu is limited but have had several of the items and all were fantastic.

Yelp
Hands down my new favorite italian restaurant in KC. The meatballs are better than any other meatball I've had anywhere. My only complaint is the tiny water glasses that have to be refilled every 2 minutes.

Yelp
Oh Wow, does this restaurant deliver it all! It is small and cozy, has a great bar vibe (where we enjoyed our dinner), an awesome menu, and terrific staff. We ordered the Olive Fritte (amazing fried olives wrapped in sausage with roasted garlic and aioli sauce), the hearth baked focaccia (a cheesy, warm bread served with olive oil and cheese), and the Arancini with marinara sauce. We loved it all, especially the olives. They area a "must try"! Our entrees were equally delicious. We ordered the Paccheri (a lovely ragu Bolognese sauce with wide penne style pasta and ricotta), the Pappardelle pasta with wild boar ragu, and the Spaghetti (with poached lobster and Calabrian chiles). No surprise that we loved everything, but that wild boar ragu was truly special! Also incredible was the dessert special of the evening, with a cup of coffee. It was a plate of three small cannoli with pistachio filling, whipped cream, and a bed of chocolate mousse. Oh my goodness was that a great way to end a fabulous meal!

Yelp
Excellent! I've been a couple times and it's fantastic every time. Fried olive- must!!! Meatball excellent. Pasta has been outstanding. Need to try the pizza but I just can't pull myself away from the pasta!!! New fave in town!!

Yelp
Finally got a chance to try out this neighborhood restaurant for my birthday lunch (thanks, Mom!) and it did not disappoint. It's a small restaurant, almost deceptively so, so reservations are needed. The size adds a quaintness, but also know you're likely to be paired up very closely with other tables and groups. The food was so good. While the menu isn't bursting with dozens of entree choices, the ones they do have all sounded pretty good. I went outside my usual zone here and opted for the Tuna Salad Crostini, mainly because I want to stick with some healthy(ish) options when I can. It was fantastic! The quality of tuna was top notch, and the flavors could not have been better. It was topped with soft-boiled egg and fresh, flavorful tomatoes. It had no business being as good as it was. We also saw a Limoncello Cake on the menu and had both commented on it, so we had to split a piece of that before we left. Top tier stuff. The cake was very light, with a rich cream cheese frosting, with a side of blackberries and Limoncello syrup. Glad to have this spot nearby, and it's now officially at the top of the queue for my wife and I on our next date night.

Yelp
Incredible food. Everything we had was amazing. We tried just about everything on the menu. Likely my new favorite restaurant in the area. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Great setting for a date night or girls night! Be sure to make a reservation!

Yelp
WOW. Food, service, ambiance - home run on all fronts. I don't think you can go wrong with the food here. Everything that we had was well thought through and executed to perfection. I would HIGHLY recommend getting the scampi and adding pasta to it. Service was fantastic. They'll offer up advice if you aren't sure what to order and they just seem happy to be there. The interior design has managed to achieve the feeling of a well established restaurant with history. It's elegant and cozy at the same time making it the perfect date night spot. I'm so excited to go back!

Yelp
Came for lunch. Pasta was excellent and service so quick. The decor was pretty and you could tell this was a fancy place. All staff were friendly, attentive, and efficient. Would be a good place for a lunch meeting or date night.

Yelp
Wandered in here as a visitor to this area and WOW! What a fabulous experience! Asked the bartenders to pick my dinner courses and wine pairings and they totally nailed it. The restaurant space is small but very well laid out. The bar has ample seating and plenty of space for mingling. I went in with time to kill and looking for good Italian food, !! I started with a Rose' to help cool down from the 100+ degree temps. Then had the burrata with prosciutto and cantaloupe appetizer. This was so phenomenal and fresh! Highly recommend. Second course was the bucatini w/ a red sauce. My God. Slap me... this was so tasty . The wine pairing was on point! Then they brought the shrimp. Which isn't really a great descriptor because they were HUGE!! Sautéed in a garlic wine sauce which to me tasted like a hint of saffron in that sauce?!?! I could actually bathe in this sauce it was so amazing! Dessert was a crowning finish with the chocolate "pudding", cherries... I'm not giving this the justice it is due but OMG. YESSSS!! If you are looking for an amazing date night, with yourself or someone else, THIS. IS. THE. PLACE. I love food, I'm not even from KC, and trust me, you will not be disappointed. Oh and btw, the service here is beyond wonderful. Everyone from the initial walk in to the bar service was the BEST!

Yelp
Stopped into Bacaro Primo for a light dinner. We had already grabbed snacks elsewhere. They seated us at the bar, which was a fun place to sit to see everything going on. They have a snacks menu every day in the late afternoon. We tried the fried polenta and olives. The olives were not what I was expecting, but they were INCREDIBLE. I would go and order 10 of them! Olives wrapped in Italian sausage, breaded and fried- who could ask for more?! We also got the Campanelle pasta. It was a simple pesto pasta dish, but good. The pizza looked yummy - I'd definitely go back!

Katlie B.

Yelp
One of the best Italian dishes I've ever had. The cheese stuffed focaccia was amazing. I was however disappointed when I went back and found out they had changed the menu and were no longer offering it - a mistake in my mind! Pasta is fresh and delicious and the service was good. Quaint little place in a nice neighborhood. Make sure you have reservations!
google avatar

Calie H.

Yelp
Yes! Yes! What a cute lovely place! The restaurant is small, but it is full of love and deliciousness! I love everything about the restaurant, especially the charcuterie board. I would go out of my way, in the snow, through the storm, just for that charcuterie board. Everything is made in house so you bet it is made with love.

Yelp
BP is a very nice, cozy, well thought out local Italian restaurant. I love the ambiance, lighting, and overall layout. The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. Overall, I don't view BP as a destination restaurant. I wasn't overly wowed by the food overall, but it was solid at every turn. The fococcia was the one standout. If I lived nearby I'd probably visit a couple times a year. Nice date night spot.

Yelp
My husband, daughter, and I ate lunch at Bacaro this past Saturday. We got to sit in the front table area with a big window--it was cute! Our server was prompt to greet us and take our drink order. There was a carafe of water and water glasses on the table which was nice. My daughter and I got Cokes--the server brought us each a can of Coke and a glass of ice. My husband got a glass of Lambrusco, which he enjoyed. For appetizers, we ordered the fried olives, meatballs, and the focaccia bread. I love olives, and these were delicious! The olive was wrapped in Italian sausage, then breaded, and fried. It was served with a tasty aioli. I could have eaten a whole plate of them. The meatballs were also amazing. The focaccia had a great texture and had delicious melty cheese in the middle. It came with a garlic/oil mixture for dipping, but I ate it plain. For lunch, my daughter got pepperoni pizza, my husband got the egg salad crostini, and I ordered the Paccheri. I was extremely pleased with my choice--a ragú bolognese with ricotta and basil. My daughter's pizza was delicious--I tried a slice. She said it tasted much better than chain pizza and was way less greasy. My husband's egg salad crostini looked amazing. I may have to get that next time. We were looking forward to dessert, but were too full to order any. We'll have to do that next time!

Yelp
Three strikes for me sadly. The first time I went with a friend, I had pizza and got pretty bad food poisoning that night. The second time, they put pistachios all over their prosciutto appetizer without noting it on the menu -- welp, I have a tree nut allergy. I just tried to go again for an early dinner, glass of wine, and to wrap up some emails on my iPad -- but they don't have WiFi for guests?? It wouldn't be a big deal and I get not wanting to a place people pull up their laptops to work, but the cell service is so bad at the back, you can't even get normal texts coming through. I've also heard about some really unsavory bartender behavior and management not doing anything about it. So unfortunately - this isn't the place for us.
google avatar

Hailey B.

Yelp
Just found this KC spot and loved it!! Went for a lunch and it was beautiful inside. Got the daily bruschetta which also features their egg salad and house bread which was yum. Other members at the table ordered the butternut squash pasta which was incredible and i wished i chose that! Bolognese was said to be great though i did not try. Sides we ordered were rapini and brussels.
google avatar

Matt C.

Yelp
A delightful place. Plan ahead it was extremely busy the night we were there. A beautiful dinng room and a selection of wines that was almost intimidating. The food was delicious and beautiful and came quickly despite the number of people there. The service was great our server was friendly and efficient. She also was a good source of information about things to do in town. All in all a great experience highly recommend

Megan O.

Yelp
Bacaro is such a GEM! You need a reservation for dinner if you want a table, but bar seating usually opens up in a reasonable amount of time if you don't have a res. The menu isn't traditional Italian, but it's sooo good. They keep fan favorites on the menu, but with a twist. Go! You won't regret it.

Riley K.

Yelp
My favorite local spot! Whether you are stopping in for some light bites (their famous fried olives) and drinks or a full meal, you cannot go wrong. Waiters have always been great. Such a cozy vibe.

Yelp
Cute little Italian place in the Crestwood Shops. Very intimate vibes and I loved the atmosphere. The service was spectacular. They were constantly checking in on us, refilling our water, etc. Food came out fast and was hot & fresh. We actually ordered a mix of multiple appetizers and entrees to split between a party of 4 because we wanted to try a bunch of different items. Would highly recommend the Focaccia, Prosciutto & Burratta, and Arancini for the appetizers. Entrees we had the Paccheri (fav thing I had), Risotto Milanese, Pizzaiola

Nicole S.

Yelp
Ambiance is a 5 star. Service was great as well. Meals were solid , but not memorable. Desserts were amazing. The surprise came when we noticed we were charged $1 for the large ice cube and $2 for the (2) small blue cheese olives for my dirty martini. I am happy to pay for an experience and a well-crafted meal, but don't love the "hidden" charges. We were never informed that those would be extra.

Yelp
Food was amazing, best Pasta I've ever had in my life. Our server was very attentive and friendly, and the vibes were immaculate.

Yelp
Excellent food, service, and location. This is a place you have to try. Best Italian in town period.

Erin J.

Yelp
Great food, service, and ambiance! We went for lunch so it was a different menu but still plenty of yummy options. Went with the Caesar salad, Paccheri (bolognese), margharita pizza. Great bourbon options too!

Yelp
A cute Italian spot with great food and even better service. I absolutely loved my pasta. Will definitely visit again next time I'm in Kansas City!

Yelp
Newly opened Bacaro Primo in Brookside was even better than anticipated. Phenomenal service from Shaina and the skilled bar staff and delicious food makes this my favorite new spot in Brookside. The pasta bolognese was a hit with house made ragu and pasta. The tiger shrimp in a beautiful bright brothy sauce were delicious. Just remember to save some focaccia for dipping. Great vibe here too. Make sure to make a reservation. Sit at the bar and meet some new friends.
google avatar

Marie L.

Yelp
Umm yes, 100 times over. Located in Brookside, Bacaro Primo is cozy and warm. I came for lunch and ordered the Bucatini, as recommended by our waiter and it is now in my top favorite Italian dishes I've ever had. The flavor and texture were perfectly executed. I can't wait to come back again and again!
google avatar

Emma A.

Yelp
My favorite thing about Bacar Primo is the multiple pasta size options - you can order a personal or shareable size. This makes it easy to try multiple things with a group. The ambiance is cozy and well done. A beautiful neighborhood spot to enjoy a cocktail/glass of wine and delightful Italian food. During our visit we shared two small pasta sizes, one salad, and one appetizer - it was perfect!
google avatar

Yelp
This not only is located in such a cute location, and has a great atmosphere, the food is delicious!! I have never left unsatisfied. The service is great, staff is knowledgeable and friendly. This is a special place!

Yelp
I was so excited to try Bacaro for the first time and it definitely lived up to my expectations. I love the interior. The focaccia appetizer was out of this world. 10/10 recommend. And you can't miss the meatballs. I will definitely be going back for dinner to try the pastas that I've heard are amazing.
google avatar

Paige J.

Yelp
A nice restaurant for a special occasion. We had a party of 15 and the service was wonderful. I would definitely recommend a reservation as the place was packed. I also recommend a pitcher of the red Italian Sangria for a refreshing summer drink.
google avatar

Ted T.

Yelp
I had a pizza and we shared the steak tartare appetizer. Both dishes were quite good. Our server was very nice and took good care of us.
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Another amazing neighborhood spot from the team that brought us Earls premier. I don't know how they manage to make a restaurant immediately feel like it's been part of the neighborhood for years but they have that magic. Great service and food made with quality ingredients. On our first visit, we were treated to a slice of prosciutto that was shaved so thin that it just dissolved into a delicious cloud when it hit my tongue. The pizza crust is crispy and light and topped with just the right amount of ingredients to highlight the combination of flavors. I have been in 3 times already and had different dishes each time and have yet to be disappointed.
google avatar

Matt R.

Yelp
Rigatoni is fantastic and so is the pizza. The house salad is delicious. You can't got wrong here. Quaint setting in a beautiful neighborhood. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Tom W.

Yelp
Wonderful spot to grab a nice lunch or a great dinner. The cocktails are high quality and the pasta and pizza and meatballs are all top notch. Extremely friendly staff and even if it seems like it's hard to grab a table most evenings, waiting for a spot at the bar is worth it. I highly recommend this place and I've been a few times and every thing that we have ordered has been excellent. Great salads as well.
google avatar

Mary M.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this gem today in the old Cafe Europa space in Brookside for late lunch. All I can say is "wow"!! Fantastic food, great service (thank you so much for making our visit, Richard!). We had baratta and prosciutto, fried olives, panzanella salad and Pinsa of the day. Almalfi spritz and gin martini. I can't wait to reserve for dinner here!! Regardless, I will make this a regular stop!!
google avatar

Bryan S.

Yelp
Wonderful location and classic comfortable atmosphere makes this spot a must try. Likewise, I'd say it's relatively affordable given it's a nicer evening out kind of place. We had the olives for an appetizer which were delicious, but there was only 2 so order up if you want more. The main dishes were excellent and dessert was ok. The wine selection was fairly good and the service was fine. A great place to go for a an evening out but there are more exceptional food locations in the city IMO but nothing wrong with this place at all and would go back for pasta for sure.
