Come for the experience, the looks and service, but be careful with the food.
(Long review ahead, but I've provided the TL;DR version already).
The place is stunning. Absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. It's the fanciest restaurant I've ever seen in terms of decor and design. It shows a big fortune has gone into the place (£72 million, according to someone in the staff) and every penny was spent brilliantly. The bar, the lounge area, the toilets, the tables, they all look like a posh palace or museum. Even the urinals are fancy (this is the first time I attach more than pics of the food in a restaurant). If you pay attention, you'll enjoy a lot of Easter Eggs in the mural. And details, details everywhere.
Service was impeccable, too. Very attentive staff without being pushy, friendly but polite, attentive to the most minute details.
The food looked excellent, too. However... there are a few buts here:
- The entrees were a bit on the heavy side. I'll be the first to admit they looked and tasted delicious. I enjoyed them greatly. Still, quite heavy.
- My friend had the lamb steak (it was called cowboy something steak). It came a bit undercooked. She asked for a few more minutes on the grill, and the waiter returned to say it came out too dry and offered her the lamb chops instead. Those were greatly enjoyed at the time, but a few hours later they triggered a nasty indigestion. Really nasty. She is not the fussy kind of person, and she's experienced with all sorts of grills, but she suffered quite badly.
- my fish was delicious, and so were the sides. Nothing to complain about here.
- The drinks were very elaborate and fancy. I had a non-alcoholic thing that was nice but not overly. A bit tasteless. Not an expert, I can't complain much. The boozy cocktails were visually fascinating, but the taste was described politely as underwhelming. Again, not an expert, but that was the verdict from someone who's been to a lot of fancy places and knows what she's talking about.
All in all, an outstanding visual experience, but the food can be hit-and-miss. I was lucky (good food, no incident), my friend was not (good food but with bad consequences).
So, should you go? It's your wallet (and stomach), but I'd encourage it. It's the kind of place worth seeing once.
Yes, it is an overpriced place, even you're lucky with your order. But you're not paying just for the food, it's for an experience which involves much more.
Yes, it's packed with lots of people that look like they came there more for the Instagram pics rather than to appreciate the place with theirs own eyes. It's also quite crowded (we weren't even at rush hour).
But it's a very interesting and intense experience. Give it a go, your eyes will definitely enjoy the feast.
P.S. this was written on a phone during a long wait for a delayed flight. Apologies for the length and typos (from me and my autocorrect).
