Boston’s 2018 Eater Award Winners - Eater Boston

"Longtime contract brewer, first-time brewery: Backlash, established back in 2011, finally opened its own space in an old piano factory in Roxbury and took the readers’ choice vote for 2018 Bar of the Year. It’s a solid taproom, offering the now-expected combination of snacks, games, and the like, but it’s also a boon for its neighborhood, a fairly industrial intersection in Roxbury without too many dining and drinking options in the immediate vicinity." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

This place is an absolute winner. Scott was our bartender and he was phenomenal. Gave us great recommendations for our visit to the area and was genuinely great to chat with. The taproom itself is clean and contemporary with an industrial feel and cool artwork. I'm really excited to see how they grow in the years to come.

It won't be long until this brewery hits the big time. Big screen for sports, gaming area with retro arcade games, a long bar, power outlets and board games; this place has it all. The beer menu is still growing but it's an excellent find. Until this does hit it big I'll keep coming and enjoying the wonderful space and the amazing staff in a chilled environment.

Such an exciting brewery in development, right now occasional retail, but it's really coming along. Great looking facility and delicious beer

Wow, just wow. Delicious beer. Cool atmosphere. Amazing vibe. Quality is unparalleled. Owners and staff pay attention to every detail. The King Cozy Imperial Stout is smooth while packing a nice punch. I highly recommend Backlash and look forward to visiting again soon.

Pretty good beer (bad decision juice was our favorite) , enjoyed the atmosphere and the fella pouring the beer. There's no food to speak of, a limited can selection and the location is kind of out there. Not a knock on them specifically but I don't get the idea of not having your taplist match or at least come close to your can list. I like to try before I buy not try something then guess if I would like something else. I would go back if in the area.

Decent beer, I enjoyed that it wasn't all IPAs. Reasonable variety. They have a small lot but at busy times, street parking is VERY limited. That's kind of a problem, even though the taproom itself is nice. They have pretzels and chips to snack on, which is pleasant. Overall it harkens back to the OG craft brewery days where you get there and think, "Wait, where am I?" but you're still glad you came

Great space, great beer, great prices. Lots of entertainment, very friendly staff. Visited a few weeks after opening and the place felt a little vacant, flat atmosphere so only four stars. Will return (with friends) and hopefully find it a bit more vibrant so I can come back and give the fith star.
